I got free mesquite trees from a chip drop that i spread around my land in tonopah. I watered the woodchips and 20 mesquites 5 palms and a palo verde sprouted. I have started to compost and spread more chips i hope to one day have a place like your in a few years. Thanks so much J for all the info you put out. Have you ever grown a big Monkeypod? Ficus Nitida is king. It is a heavy duty air purifier and produces sweet smelling flowers in summer. Invasive roots so be sure to water deeply and ensure distance from pipes, walls and foundations.

Hey Jay, I just had a 24inch boxed sized honey mesquite tree planted in my front yard by a tree company (due to the size and there was some granite they were able to grind away). The tree leaves have been turning yellow since a few days after planting and my immediate thought is overwatering, but it's tough to diagnose since the tree has a natural tendency to weep. I've been constantly observing the leaves and found some tips getting dry and crinkly so now I think the water didn't get enough water is not getting enough water. My mistake was I didn't see the company put the tree in and it didn't look like they watered it so I watered later that day on low for 2 hours with a hose, then 5 days later again, about 8 gallons and it's been getting more and more yellow leaves so I've been watering every 2-3 days with a deep water irrigator and I mixed in sand and palm/desert soil mix to help improve the drainage. The soil seems moist 6 inches below but not overly wet. Do you think I am under or overwatering this tree? Thanks
What type of mesquite tree is this? Honey Mesquite? Also, could you do a video on shade tree location strategy? You mentioned the shade trees blocking the afternoon sun. I'm curious, do you plant them on the west edge of the property, middle of property, or east of property for the microclimate effect. Love the videos! Thanks.
What is your watering schedule for your mesquite? I'm planning to plant some from seed to shade our 1-acre property and want to encourage them to grow big like yours!

Your place is a forest 🌳. The shade is considered as “gold” in Arizona probably, but I’m sure not everyone will agree about the huge tree branches over the roof of your house. It’s an accident waiting to happen. I remember Jake Mace mesquite tree...when the big branch fell...it was a lot of work cleaning up, and lucky it was far enough from the house.

RAINBOW EUCALYPTUS!!!!!! HOW? It's frost sensitive. I'd love to have one in my lancape . Unfortunately I live in a cold valley location. My Moringa froze to the ground this past winter as did my Hong Kong orchid tree.

You don't need any luck with a mimosa tree they will dump all of their seed pods in July and then you spend all year long(if you don't pick them up) tearing out mimosa trees that have sprouted all over your yard😒😂
I could use some advice.... What does the soil mix you're using in the pots/containers consist of? Ingredients and ratio please? I bought fox farm happy frog soil conditioner and i mix in perlite, vermiculite, peat moss, compost, and cheap home depot soil mixes.... I started off using that but then I realized that has too much fertilizer is too hot for the young seedlings and kills em so i started mixing in 50/50 native dirt ... I been gardening for a long time but im from wisconsin, born and raised so this arizona growing is tough for me

Actually, the word "jacarandá" originates from Tupi-guarani, an indigenous South American language by way of Portuguese initially. Both of those languages would pronounce it with the same "J" sound as in English, just as in this video.
I'd have to disagree with the moringa being a good shade tree. I am around tucson and mine die back to the ground every year. It never gets big enough to shade a whole lot. It's better as a hedge then a tree.
Anyone know a shade tree for St George (lot like Las Vegas climate-wise, maybe 5 degrees "cooler ") that DOESN'T have invasive roots, so, a deep taproot?

Underwatering. Box trees are on timers to water them everyday. Which you have to do until it establishes.

There's also a burnt orange flowering Royal Poinseannas or Flamboyant trees as we call them in the Caribbean.
