Small Triumph Sports Library & Archives, Episode 15 / Errata 2 (December 2023)
I originally set out to create an errata video to clarify fuzziness/correct errors in my discussion of the Spitfire/GT6 fuse box in Episode 8, a problem that exists because I worked from memory without doing the usual homework. However, I ultimately developed a short video that combines new material with old, improved/corrected information.
    The standard statements:
As always, my videos are based on some combination of research and experience.
***Please help me to ensure the accuracy of information on my channel. Please reach out when you detect errors or possible errors. I make corrections as needed in video descriptions, in comments, and in videos.
***For videos such as this one, I’m ALWAYS seeking useful input, advice, etc.
Initial notes/corrections, pedantic nonsense, and self-mockery:
3:23 One particular debt of gratitude that I’ll offer here is to Dan Aycock, who has established himself as something of a Spitfire/GT6 electrical guru on social media, frequently chiming in to help others, including novices who need more than a little guidance. Mr. Aycock has a collection of labeled photographs and other documents he regularly shares to help others, and it seems wrong not to acknowledge those efforts here, especially as I’ve personally benefited from his help, but he also has offered useful a very useful fuse box tutorial online here: www.triumphexp.com/forum/spit...
I also had some very useful online conversations with fellow Triumph enthusiast/researcher AJ about Lucas service and equipment catalogues and about the various iterations of the Lucas 8FJ fuse box.
My fellow British Car Club Midlands Centre member Tim Melton shared photos of his GT6 Mk1 fuse box for this video.
I’m sure I’m shamefully forgetting others; I’ll add them here when they come to mind.
It’s amusing that I decided not to provide details about these debts because I’m trying to “tighten up” my videos. This video is anything but tight.
5:08 GT6 production began in July 1966; Spitfire Mk3 production began in January 1967.
13:30 I don’t have immediate access to any of the post-1973 Lucas Triumph catalogues. I looked but didn’t find any copies of later catalogues online. I may collect more of these in the future.
17:19 I should have flipped this photo upside down…but I guess it doesn’t matter that much.
17:47 I should have said “gold in color.”
22:50 Really, I guess any part of the box might be melted or broken in a way that prevents a terminal or terminals from tightly holding the fuse.
24:35 Actually, just from looking at the images of my Spitfire fuse box, I’m pretty sure the clips I used for the repair were modified…
28:45 I’ll note that I own the 1979 and 1980 owner’s manuals and maintenance handbooks and I’ve not found where any of these documents provide any details on the fuses for the fuse box. I’m familiar with the GT6 owner’s manuals and what they offer about the fuses in question. I have not looked at the Spitfire owner’s manuals for every year, though, and I may be overlooking/forgetting something.
31:40 UPDATE (22 Feb 2024): I just received a January 1983 Lucas (and Girling) Service catalogue covering British cars in the American market that does in fact list both 35-amp and 10-amp fuses beneath the fuse box listing for the 1977-1980 Spitfire 1500; consequently, the signals on this matter were apparently more mixed than I understood when I recorded this video.

NOTE: Many of the images used are of original materials in my possession, but for some images I’m indebted to those out there who share photos and scans on the Internet.

Mine came from my father's electrical supplies. I've not shopped for them, although I had no troubles finding images of these items for my videos through a Google search. While I can't provide a surefire link or source at the moment, if you search eBay for "fuse box clips" or similar, some options will pop up in your results.
