Hey Richard! I listened to Little River Band in my teenage years back in the 70’s. I’m now 50ish. Every track they released was amazing and the love ballads , my GOD were so romantic and innocent. The Night Owls is my favorite LRB track/song. Have an awesome day. 👍😀😀
I love this song! The lyrics speak to making a change in your life to keep you on course. When I was young I was a bit of a hellion, always on the edge of trouble, and then had my first heartbreak when a girl I loved did me wrong and cut me lose! I moped for a while and then made that "Cool Change" that I desperately needed! I joined the military and literally (and figuratively) changed the course of my life! And yes, I joined the Navy and never returned to my old home. Met the love of my life, and we eventually made a life together! We now have grandkids and reminisce together quite often about our adventures.

Sailing is freaking marvelous. So different than a power boat. The best is being on the open ocean on one of the big sailboats, cranked over with the sails totally filled and rushing the boat along -- steady, stiff and very fast! And the crew works feverishly to keep it trimmed so it doesn't let up!
There are many great Little River Band songs, but Cool Change is by far the best. The Harmonies are mind blowing and Glen's lead vocals soaring above them. Incredible.
sailing, as in controlling a small boat like the song seems to reference, is not "laying on deck, suntanning"... its hard work, but oh so satisfying... I hope one day, everyone could sail, even if, just for a day.👍🏼
LRB is such a smooth and mellow band. They had a few big hits in the late 70's. It was awesome because we was getting hammered with way to much disco right then.
I first heard this song in the fall of '89. I was only 13yo and was listening to an adult contemporary radio station my mother enjoyed. Loved the backing vocals and the way he delivers that first line and repeats it again after the sax solo. Great reaction as always, Angela. As for wishing you knew someone who had a boat, that's gonna be another long line at your door next to the line of people who have motorcycles! lol Keep it up! 😊💛🧡
@@gregadams558 I certainly did. I adore dolphins and porpoises. When I was 8 yrs old my family visited Sea-life Park in Hawaii. Similar to Sea World. Dolphins are gentle, smart creatures and live in the water. When I say a dolphin is my spirit animal, I meant if I pass away. I want my ashes thrown in the ocean threw all eternity. 😀 My Older Sister, my only sister passed away, in October 2022. She was cremated.😢
It's a travesty what happened to Glenn Shorrock, Graeham Goble, and Beeb Birtles--the Australian founders and genius behind LRB. They lost the rights to the band's name, yet "Little River Band" continues to tour (and to sell tickets) to an unsuspecting public. It's wrong and a deceitful slight of hand. The real LRB were unmatched in guitar and vocal harmonies, which is why I saw them so many times in my youth.
This will forever make me long for the days of cruising my boat up and down the coast of Santa Barbara by myself checking surf, fishing or just taking in the scenery and playing with dolphins around the boat 🧡💛💚
A song from that same year, 1979, that emotes feelings of being out on the open water is Christopher Cross "Sailing"; beautiful guitar playing by Cross and flowing strings. And another song of the Little River Band that poses thoughts & reflection is "Guiding Light"; sorry no saxophone solo, although there is a thoughtful oboe being played. Enjoy.
Completely agree. I'm not a huge fan of the band, but Lady and Cool Change are favorites. Cool Change is just beautiful. The message, the voice, and the harmony of the background guys is intense. I need a cool change for sure.

By 1990, almost none of the people you're hearing on "Cool Change" was with Little River Band anymore. In fact, none of the founding members of the band own the rights to the band's name.
