One of the most underrated bands of all time. They earned the nickname "Australian Eagles" because of their harmonies and melodies. The rabbit hole for this band is long and extensive, and a fun one to go down. "Lonesome Loser", "Reminiscing", "Cool Change", and "Take It Easy on Me" are a good start. Great reaction!

Brilliant! Such fine music then.... And this is some of that ' fine'..... & one day soon that world they wanted then is coming and the long way to where I'm goin that "new earth" without tears will be here and we will be there! (1Thess.5 :21, the Bible) til then "make sure of all things, hold fast to what is fine"! (1Thess.5 :21)

I was 15/16 when this came out. I have always been a heavy rock girl but the harmonies of LRB still got to me as well. No auto tune, just pure talent, all of them. Named after a small town near Geelong in Victoria Australia from memory but I could be wrong (there certainly is a little place called Little River near Geelong).

LRB (outside of Australia) is quite possibly the most underrated band from this era and genre! So many great songs from them! In the early 80s they opened up for the Eagles in America… And the Eagles have stated that they admired them and even listened in on their rehearsals for pointers/advice. This song is no doubt a masterpiece… An epic track to say the absolute least! It truly is one of the greatest songs ever recorded… It’s pretty much perfect… And then some!

This song came on the radio when I was at work in the 70's. I stopped in the middle of what I was doing and just listened. The first song I ever heard by LRB. I was hooked. It just drew me in and took my mind on a trip. I still just close my eyes and listen. Absolutely mesmerizing! It started my love for LRB since!! I'm 71 now and still listening!! LRB songs are works of art. Update--I turned 72 and still listening!!!! It only gets better each time I listen.

There is an interview with him on UA-cam and he explained that he had the flu and when they recorded this song, it was done on one take. He said if he did it right the first time he could go home because he was sick....... Wow... right?

Glenn Frey from The Eagles publicly admitted he considered LRB as the best vocal band in the world. he said this at the 1988 Brisbane Expo live concert while he was travelling with LRB.
LRBs harmonies during every live concert were as good as they were in the studio.
A friend of mine was recording in a studio in London while LRB were in the studio next door. They spent the ENTIRE weekend working on the harmonies for one song. THAT is why they were so good.

I lived through the first moon landing, LA riots, Monterey Festival, Woodstock, the Vietnam War, Kent State, Chicago Democratic Convention, John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Demonstrations against the Vietnam War. I could go on and on. There was so much history happening that sometimes I can’t remember a song but when I hear different songs they take me back to that time in my life. I checked some of your video's comments and they are pointing out that it dates to about 1975; that sounds right to me as I was a young woman at that time and this is the music of that era. Your comments, "musical geniuses", "not a song, a piece" and the "movements' in it are spot on Seb. Thanks for sharing. It was a journey of a song. Unless they bought the album, those Americans who heard and liked the song heard a ridiculously truncated radio version with that epic guitar solo by Ric Formosa taken out. This album version was mostly ignored when anyone spoke about muscular, gymnastic, melodic guitar, seamless use of orchestra, harmonies, melody - you name it. As a product of the 70s, I put it up there with anything that was played on radio: Hotel California, Baker Street, Do it Again, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Masquerade (Benson) - and anything that was lifted off albums to become popular classics, like Stairway or Maybe I'm Amazed. I NEVER get sick of 'It's a Long Way There'.
Australian music from about 1965 to around 1992 was replete with amazing bands and songs, and I'm not talking AC/DC. I note from the YT comments that a lot of people from other countries are hearing Australian music from this time and saying "where the hell has this been all this time?" The fact is that America owned popular music and like Australian boxers, Aussie musicians never got a look in, no matter how talented they were. Now people are having their minds blown by Aussies, many of whom retired without a bean or pursued other careers. That's life I guess.
Oh, and by the way, any band that can write 'Reminiscing' and ' It's a Long Way There' alone is worthy of legend status. Two of the best songs ever recorded. 'Reminiscing was Lennon's favourite song around the time he died. These are two songs even he and McCartney would wish they'd written.

Not only in the studio they nailed every song live too. Phenomenal musicians in every slot .

It was released in 1975. It was the debut album of "The Little River Band" and it was the opening track.
Classic song here in Australia. Glen Shorock is a great vocalist - one of our best.
Living in Australia I was lucky enough to see this band live - superb live. The harmonies are as good as anyone (Eagles, Beachboys)

Great reaction mate. I saw LRB live in their real early days at a 'Stoned Again' concert in Melbourne in 1976.....and I was totally off my face (stoned again!😄). They played this song. Rick Formosa is the sublime lead guitarist here. What a concert.....jazz fusion band Crossfire was on the bill as well. Fantastic stuff.

I haven't heard this in years. I think I took all the music on the radio in the 70's for granted. I really enjoy listening to so many of these songs again and appreciating how great the music was back then. There was just so much variety and so much talent. Thanks

It's a piece of music you could be proud of your entire life.
You'd never look back at and feel embarrassed or cringe.
Some of the effects might sound dated, but the composition and execution is timeless.

I was going to praise the keenness of your analysis and depth of our newly shared fandom for these freaks (I saw lead singer Shorrock twice in 2022), and already had subscribed when you pronounced Melbourne so expertly in clearest Aussie replica, I would walk through fire for you. Power on, legend!

That wouldn't have been the real Little River Band, you played with the Little River Band cover band. The Original members were swindled out of the naming rights of the band by band member Glenn Houseden. The real members were Beeb Beebles, Glenn Shorrock and Grahame Gobles. They released an album as BSG in 2002 but nothing since then.

My favourite band from the 70s Glen Shorrock had amazing vocals. My first album was ‘ Sleeper Catcher’ by the way the group was named after the group travelled down to a Geelong ( from Melbourne Australia) along the way they saw a sign post pointing to a place called ‘ Little River’ Ps: This song was released in 1975/6 🎉

Just now seeing this reaction. This is one of those bands that I would listen to back in high school. You know, when you have all the time in the world to just throw on your headphones and lounge in the dim light just grooving on some jams. TI'd throw that LP on and just play it cover to cover and then play it all over again.

Whilst LRB had an amazing number of great songs, this is by far my favourite! Love Pink Floyd, so this song, as its title suggests, is a great journey and a treat to listen to, like many from PF❤.
... In 1985 I enjoyed a wonderful yachting holday with friends in the Whitsundays, in northern Queensland. I live in the south, in Melbourne.
I documented that holiday with my first video camera. Much to the dismay of the friends, it took to 2020, during our covid lockdown, for me to edit it for presentation to the friends.
One of the great songs I used in the soundtrack was "It's a Long Way There". I couldn't have found a better song!
... BTW unfortunately Americans (and many others), due to marketing difficulties, were never exposed to numerous gems from many Aussie artists, especially from the 60s to the 80s!
