This is one of the most underrated bands in the history of rock and roll. So many great songs. Long Way There is my favorite. Beautiful guitar solos and great strings.
I have no idea if you are thinking of Supertramp's "Take The Long Way Home" or Little River Band's "It's a Long Way There." But I agree with you in either case about either band! :-)
Long Way There is my favourite too. As an Aussie, it's great to see you reacting to one of our best bands from their era. Home On A Monday is good too.
Growing up in the 70's, with no internet, Little River Band was often heard but seldom seen on American television. All we got from Australia were Olivia, Air Supply and of course the Bee Gees. They were all worthy, but the Little River Band had a unique sound. Never be another like them
The Little River Band is an incredible band from Australia. You need to react to some of their big hits like "Reminiscing", "Help Is On Its Way", "Lonesome Loser", "Take It Easy on Me", "Lady" and "The Night Owl"
My brother was a police officer and on his off time he could be found fishing on a beautiful lake. He died at the age of 44 of cancer. He asked for this song to be played at his funeral. Still brings tears.
This song has special meaning for me. I saw the Little River Band in 1979, a week or so before I was headed out to San Diego for Navy bootcamp. I was about to become a sailor for the next 6 years and I wasn't even 20 yet. It was the first time I'd left Missouri. I got goosebumps watching them play this then knowing I was about to become a sailor and had a "Cool Change" coming my way...and still get goosebumps when I hear the start of this song. It was indeed a Cool Change.
“Now that my life is so prearranged…I know that it’s time for a cool change”. Few lyrics hit me harder or make me question life more than this one does. Always makes me want to sell the house, quit the job, cash in the 401K and disappear to solitude and peace.
Wife and I did just that. Sold everything, downsized and bought a 40ft RV. Livin the Life just North of the Gulf of Mexico. You COULDN"T PAY either of us enough to go back to it. Cheaper, prettier, (I'm actually a Florida Native) and CALMER.
In my opinion one of the best and underrated bands of the 70's and 80's! Little River Band is from Australia and they were a nice change of pace compared to my hard rock that I listened to most of the time in 1980-1984! Thank you for your reaction!
This band has many beautiful songs. This song was released in 1979, 2nd single from their 5th album,"First under the Wire". It made it to Number 10 on the Billboard charts. Next "Lonesome Loser". The vocals are great. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
For those of us who grew up by the Ocean this song speaks to us. The sentiments expressed in the Lyrics is something that we feel. Have always loved this!
When I get to my childhood home in Rhode Island, the smell of the ocean - even miles inland - makes me happy. When the singer says "when I'm out on the sea alone" - you ARE alone. Lying back in a drifting boat just staring up at the sky and just feeling connected -- to the sea -- to the sky. The quiet - just water lapping at the boat. BUT you know you can't let yourself get too lost in the feeling; you need to make sure you can get back. I was always in small craft - row boats, small sail boats - so a couple thousand yards from shore was my limit. I always wished I could afford something sturdier.
My Little River Band record had its grooves worn deeper from constant replay in the late 70’s. I still play them while sipping on a glass of wine, perfect mood.
Definitely one of my favourite Australian Bands. The lead singer Glenn Sharrock has an awesome voice. They have tons of great songs. Glenn Frey and Don Henley from the Eagles heard Little River Band and stated they had the best vocal group harmonies they had ever heard. Try "Lady" next or "Help Is On It's Way". Both great songs
@@CryptikConstruct yep, I’m Australian and Cool Change is way down my list of favourite LRB songs. I find it very B-side. I would consider Help is on its Way, Lonesome Loser, Reminiscing, It’s a Long Way There, Curiosity Killed the Cat, Little Ray of Sunshine, Happy Anniversary, Emma, Everyday of my Life, Home on Monday, Witchery, Lady, Shut Down Turn Off, …all way better tracks to name a few.
@@Laraine3 That's the beauty of music, every feels and likes the music differently. This is my favorite of theirs but I like them very very much. When I need to be at peace this is one of my favorite songs from anyone.
Jay and Amber, I love your show. I'm totally addicted to it. Your reactions to the songs I know word for word and grew up with. It's just so amazing, God bless and keep the amazing job!!
This song always brings tears to my eyes. I grew up boating, skiing & swimming on/in the rivers & lakes of Kentucky but it's the ocean that calls to me, always. Every summer we went to Florida for vacation. In my adult life I go whenever I get the chance but not as often as I used to. I actually get homesick for the beach & the water. I love to swim out past the breakers & just relax, letting the smooth roll of the sea lull me & soothe my spirit. Some people just enjoy the water as a kind of playground. Others feel a primal pull that's undeniable & spiritual. I've felt it since I was 3 years old & always will. This song expresses it beautifully. Thanks for reacting to it. And gratitude to The Little River Band for the song itself. 💙🌊💙🌊💙🌊💙🌊💙🌊💙🌊💙
I also love this song and being an Aquarian I love the water. We live on the east coast of Florida and being on the water is the most peaceful, relaxing, getting lost in the wonder of it all is the best feeling. And when the dolphins play in the wake of our boat, man, nothing like it. And the east coast is absolutely beautiful like the panhandle.
I didn’t see the ocean until I was 26. And it’s been 11 years since I’ve seen it. Disabled and physically and financially know I will probably never get back there. When I first saw the ocean, the pelicans, the smell of the air, the sound and feel of the waves… knew I was home. I miss it so much. Think our souls lead us there.
Deborah, I completely understand how you feel. Decades ago, when I was just a punk at 15 years old and turning 16 in late August, I signed up for a SCUB diving class out here in California through my high school, that was an occupational program aimed at making me either a lifeguard or if I took more classes, a commercial diver or underwater welder. I did end up being a lifeguard one summer and hated it, but I loved the sea. When I got to college, I took a marine bio course and an oceanography class just so I would better understand the world I loved to explore. I would spend almost every weekend on scuba at places like Crescent Bay, Seal beach, Laguna beach, Corona Del Mar and many others. I had many awesome experiences and learned that I was the visitor, and that mankind is just a tourist down there. I've seen many species of whales and sharks; I've played with dolphins and seals. I watched sharks, little and large, swim right by me and I've been bumped by God only knows what while hanging out in the kelp forest along the California coast. I've drifted on the surface at night and watch falling stars burn up and become part of our planet. I probably have close to two thousand hours on scuba over my lifetime. I used to keep a dive book but lost my gear several decades ago along with my dive card but know people that have their own compressors so I can almost always get my air tanks filled. (That's how dive shops stop the government from taking control of the sport diving industry, by only allowing people that have their certification to get their tanks filled.) The sea if a beautiful but harsh mistress and when she looks her most beautiful is when she is the most dangerous. A siren song actually. Go learn how to Scuba dive and open that world even further than what is just on the surface.

Love this song 💗. If I'm honest I say the easy listening music of the 70s just hit you in the feels.....makes you calm......I think the music today is reflective of chaos, immorality.....we need more of the substance filled music instead of the bs today 🕊️
One of my all-time favorite songs. For me it’s a reminder to take time out every once in a while and just live my life. With no worry of jobs or responsibilities. Even taking a little bit of time away from family just to be my own person. It is very important in life. Living in Florida, I take one morning every other month and go to the beach by myself. I sit with my chair, some music, and some rum punch, and just exist for a couple hours. Totally reinvigorates the soul!
I saw a Little River band in Chattanooga, Tennessee at the Riverbend festival years ago. Atlanta rhythm section was there too. That was a great concert and a great night.
One of their best songs from LRB this takes me back to late 1979 early 1980 when this was released on the airwaves at that time.... great music and memories.
The Little River Band was the opening band at the first big concert I ever attended. It was a triple bill at The Yale Bowl in New Haven Connecticut, June 14th 1980. The Little River Band was fantastic. Their vocals were off the charts. After The Little River Band was Heart and then The Eagles.
@@333perfection It was a fantastic concert. My friends and I learned a valuable lesson that day. Don't start drinking Jack Daniels at 9:00am in 94 degree heat. We spent a good portion of the concert looking for a friend who we found out later had passed out in a bathroom. If you have the vinyl album The Eagles Live, there is a poster that came with it. I'm in there somewhere.
In 40-plus years, this song has never gotten old. Always sounds as fresh and new as the first time I heard it. Near the end, when the strings kick in...I always think..."no, no don't end. Keep going." Great song. Luved your reactions.
This is one of the best Australian groups of the 70s. Every songs is great and one of the best was not even released as a single. You need to listen to Help is on its Way and an epic It's a Long Way There.
My dad passed away a few years ago. He used to love this song. We were best friends, and I haven’t listened to this since he passed because it’s painful. I love LRB and I feel like they are Australia’s answer to The Hollies and CSN, and Cool change is LRB’s answer to CSN’s Southern Cross. Oh my! Just looked it up. This song came first by a couple years. Wow.
This was my theme song for a while when I felt so overwhelmed. I live in a land-locked city now but I was also "born by the side of water and it's there that I feel my best." Thanks for the reaction, guys! My next favorite LRB song is "Lady." 💖 Have a great evening.
@@dv3507 its about the best alteration that line could get; I think the band would have approved! I'm a Cancer which is or also sort of a water sign; my sister is a Gemini and my mother was, too. :--)
Got ur beanbag, bourbon, earphones and candles? Oh yeah, love this group. So many beanbag greats. Love chillaxing with these guys. Thanx so much, Blessings
"Well I was born in the sign of water and it's there I feel my best" makes this song feel like it was written just for me. I love it. I've lived my whole life never more than an hour from the ocean and I can't imagine not having access to it.
Jay and Amber, you've only just scratched the surface with Little River Band. Although from Australia, they are one of the great soft-rock bands of the 70's/80's (right up there with the likes of Bread, America, Eagles, etc).
I was born in the sign of water, & this is in my top 10 Favorite songs. So many great songs by them. "Take it Easy on Me" is one to check out, "Lonesome Loser" a bit harder, or if you want something a little funky sounding, check out "Happy Anniversary"
I was in the 9th grade and we had to journal everyday in English class. The question was, "What is your favorite song? And why? " We also had to write the lyrics to the song. I knew this song by heart. It speaks to my very soul. They don't make bands and songs like this anymore. I'm 60 and it still speaks to my soul.
All right my babies.... Little River Band does have some great songs. And they're easier on the ears as well for those adult contemporary genre lovers ‼️💯😊👍🏼
The lead singer is Glenn Shorrock. He is now 78 years old and still touring here in Australia. Unfortunately, he (and the original line-up) lost the legal right to use the name "Little River Band" in 2002. "Cool Change" was once voted as one of the top 30 Australian songs of all time.
I agree with Thomas, they are underrated in the history of rock & roll. I want to see you react to the song, It's a Long Way There. It's from there first album in 1973 I think. I've seen them in concert 2 times. One of those concerts I was at ,was in Sydney , Australia 🇦🇺 November 1979. I was serving in the USMC, it was on my first 6 month float around the South Pacific. The citizens of Australia treated us like we were family, I have many great memories from that shore leave we got.
“Reminiscing” is my favorite of theirs. If you ever react to it, please use the original version with Glen Shorrock. I saw LRB at UNC Chapel Hill in 1980. Great concert!
Being on a boat has always given me peace and exhilaration. Any wildlife is an added bonus. This song captures those feelings. ❤️🌊🐬🐳❤️ Calypso by John Denver catches that swell perfectly also.
This is my all time favorite song! I went through a life changing event in 1991, so I can totally relate to this beautiful song. Thank you for finally presenting it!
Excellent stuff Jay & Amber!! I'm one that said you need to check out their classic era - & you've done it. This is a truly a superb song!!!! They are from my hometown of Adelaide Australia. Truly one of the best bands to come from this country.
I love this song. I could live on a deserted beach with nothing but the sounds of the surf, sounds of the seagulls and dolphins in the background. I am also land locked in OKie land. Good reaction.
Wife here...Looooove these Guys.., You two are hitting me in the feels tonight..My Father LOVED THIS SONG..and though I loved it as well..,it's just amazing to me how time puts perspective on a song..And especially this..He Loooved the Ocean as I do..❤😪
Im fro. Maine. I grew up on the ocean and this describes the feeling of awe you experience being out on the waters, bobbing up and down, sailing and feeling the breeze on yours ur face ❤
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is my ultimate Little River Band song!!!! I love how this song starts so quiet and simple and just builds and builds and builds to a pinnacle, it takes you like Jay said to church
I have always been a big fan of Little River Band and this is my all time favorite song of theirs. Closing my eyes and listening to this song I am always transported back to 1980 at Doak Campbell Stadium during their concert. Friends and strangers all standing, arms around each other swaying to the music, completely present in the moment. As a kid and young adult who spent every possible moment at the beach, it has always been my place of peace.
There were so many good songs in the late 70s that reflected on the ocean. And it seems everyone of them was adopted by my shipmates while we were at sea. Our deployments would last up to nine months. And we would rely on our boom boxes and collection of cassette tapes.

I'm certain that day was Awesome 💚🙂
@@333perfection It was a fantastic concert.
My friends and I learned a valuable lesson that day. Don't start drinking Jack Daniels at 9:00am in 94 degree heat. We spent a good portion of the concert looking for a friend who we found out later had passed out in a bathroom.
If you have the vinyl album The Eagles Live, there is a poster that came with it. I'm in there somewhere.
Greatest band ever!!
when it comes to the little river band....... this is my all time favorite song ..... so glad yall did this one
In 40-plus years, this song has never gotten old. Always sounds as fresh and new as the first time I heard it. Near the end, when the strings kick in...I always think..."no, no don't end. Keep going." Great song. Luved your reactions.
Yes! Finally, The Little River Band!
This band never was properly recognized....so brilliant and totally worth enjoying 😃💙💯🤙
You still haven't listened to their best song "Reminiscing," you'll love that one, and it has horns!
This is one of the best Australian groups of the 70s. Every songs is great and one of the best was not even released as a single.
You need to listen to Help is on its Way and an epic It's a Long Way There.
The Other Guy and Happy Anniversary, Baby are so good!
Lead singer Glen Shorrick still singing and touring around Australia at age 75. He still sounds as great as he did back in the 60s 🇦🇺
Saw SHORROCK and CADD at the Palms at Crown on the
7th July they were both awesome and SHORROCK voice hasn't changed
My dad passed away a few years ago. He used to love this song. We were best friends, and I haven’t listened to this since he passed because it’s painful.
I love LRB and I feel like they are Australia’s answer to The Hollies and CSN, and Cool change is LRB’s answer to CSN’s Southern Cross. Oh my! Just looked it up. This song came first by a couple years. Wow.
I love the Little River Band. They had so many great songs that take me right back to my youth. Very underrated.
It's a Long Way There, 14+ minutes of amazing music and harmonies, this one you both would love.
It's a beautiful song. But my goodness, how amazing was it to watch those dolphins & whales playing so free and happy? God's stunning gifts!
All very talented. Glen Shorrock’s voice is one of my favorites. The sax, sublime.
Great 70s band one of my favorite's.
Little river band still tour's. Mainly in small venue's..
This was my theme song for a while when I felt so overwhelmed. I live in a land-locked city now but I was also "born by the side of water and it's there that I feel my best." Thanks for the reaction, guys! My next favorite LRB song is "Lady." 💖 Have a great evening.
That lyric is "born in the sign of water," meaning astrological. Cool comment. ;-)
@@bobdavis4848 haha, true! I'm a Gemini so I altered the lyrics. 😁
@@dv3507 its about the best alteration that line could get; I think the band would have approved! I'm a Cancer which is or also sort of a water sign; my sister is a Gemini and my mother was, too. :--)
@@bobdavis4848 ah, nice. Thanks for sharing!
@@dv3507 You're welcome! I see you are a Rob Squad subscriber, too! ;-) Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Got ur beanbag, bourbon, earphones and candles? Oh yeah, love this group. So many beanbag greats. Love chillaxing with these guys. Thanx so much, Blessings
Lord, those bass notes are so smooth. I like turning the bass up in my car.
May Pang, ex girlfriend of John Lennon, said “Oddly, with all the fantastic music he wrote, “our song” was ‘Reminiscing’ by the Little River Band.”
"Well I was born in the sign of water and it's there I feel my best" makes this song feel like it was written just for me. I love it. I've lived my whole life never more than an hour from the ocean and I can't imagine not having access to it.
Wish I could give this 65 thumbs up!!!...it's so iconic and epic!
Such great harmony singing on many of their songs
Jay and Amber, you've only just scratched the surface with Little River Band. Although from Australia, they are one of the great soft-rock bands of the 70's/80's (right up there with the likes of Bread, America, Eagles, etc).
Love this song and Little River Band. Such a great song. Great reaction!
Sailing is the most exhilarating aexperience you can have. It is like nothing else I've ever done. Just something about the wind and canvas sails.
I was born in the sign of water, & this is in my top 10 Favorite songs. So many great songs by them. "Take it Easy on Me" is one to check out, "Lonesome Loser" a bit harder, or if you want something a little funky sounding, check out "Happy Anniversary"
Also funky is LRB"s "You're Driving Me Out Of My Mind" with the great John Farnham. But for me they're best lead vocalist with also be Glen Sharrock.
Why do I start to tear up every time I hear LR’Bs Cool Change? Wonderful 🥰🥰🥰
If you go back to their first single you’ll find the masterpiece that is “It’s a Long Way There”!!!! They started off amazing!!!
It's one of those that you would just hug your partner in a nice slow dance.
Brass,strings,pipes, chorus
And those lyrics😇🎄
This band was everywhere on the radio in the 70s & early 80s. My sister& I couldn't get enough of them! I still listen to them to this day😎👍
I agree with Thomas, they are underrated in the history of rock & roll.
My parents and I love “ Happy Anniversary”….. my faves have always been, “Reminiscing”, “Lady”, and “Help Is On Its Way”. 🦋✌🏼💛
Love love ❤️ this song. I can relate to this song. Little River Band has a lot of great songs
“Reminiscing” is my favorite of theirs. If you ever react to it, please use the original version with Glen Shorrock. I saw LRB at UNC Chapel Hill in 1980. Great concert!
Little River Band is from Australia , one of their biggest hits is The Lonesome Looser
Being on a boat has always given me peace and exhilaration. Any wildlife is an added bonus. This song captures those feelings. ❤️🌊🐬🐳❤️
Calypso by John Denver catches that swell perfectly also.
One of Aussies biggest exports. Best harmonies. The voice of Glen is unmistakable.
Always loved this song. Never get tired of it. ❤️
Your reaction during the end and crescendo was great! He just felt that.
My jam since I first heard them in 1970 something.
"It's a Long Way There" is a must if you want to know the true essence of LRB.
Saw them live in 1980, this is my favorite song of theirs. So smooth and gave a great concert!
You definitely need to add their song "Lady" to your list!
