The lead singer Glenn Shorrock wrote this. You were correct. He was tired and stressed out from the endless touring and band commitments. He left the band not long after the release of this song.
He didn't "leave" the band. They left him. They (especially Graeme Goble) wanted John Farnham, and informed Glenn of this. Eventually, Farnham left, and Glenn was asked to return. Farnham has a bigger range, and is a great singer, but Glenn has that smoother voice that fits their music. There's an old saying: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
This is a great soft rock band from Australia. They had a lot of great hits especially in the 70's-80's such as "Help Is On Its Way", "Happy Anniversary", "Reminiscing", "Lady", "Lonesome Loser", "Cool Change", "It's A Long Way There", "Take It Easy On Me", "It's A Long Way There" etc.
I've always loved this song. It's sort of an anthem for those of us who have no problem with being alone at times. Thanks my friend. So glad I hit the subscribe button. 🏝
Thanks Harry! Great song by a STELLAR band! LOVE this band... you've played some of their killer tracks and this one is no different. Different vibe, same tasty treats!
This song takes me back to when I joined the Navy 3 months out of high school. LRB was the last concert I saw before heading to bootcamp the following week. This song was all over the radio at the time, and hearing it live impacted me, knowing I was about to start a life at sea and scared what that entailed. Turned out fine actually. had some amazing times at sea! I'll always think of that time in my life when I hear this song.
This song always reminded me of my brother who drowned at sea in 1981. He loved the sea, and felt kinship to the creatures there. It was time for his "cool change", and he passed into it...we were both Aquarians, born in the sign of water...miss the hell out of him...
@@rubroken Well, I'm the only James Taylor that I know. I guess that makes me "THE" James Taylor? However, I can not carry a tune in a bucket and my middle name is not "Vernon". Hope this helps...
@@jamestaylor2920 After I posted the reply, I thought, that's pretty callous. OOPS, I'm sorry, but if it was THAT James Taylor, Laurie might get a thrill from it. You have a great name, even if your middle name is not Vernon!
@@rubroken not a problem, my friend. I was known by my middle name (Scotty) throughout my childhood. It wasn't until I joined the military that I even made the connection that I was named the same as THE James Taylor. The Airforce used First Name + Last Name on all official paperwork, so I was James Taylor from then on. Flash forward a decade and my mother said that a young lady called asking if this was the home of James Taylor. Mom said, "there was no one here by that name and hung up." She was halfway to her chair before realizing her mistake. That was over 35 years ago and I still wonder who was that young lady?
I'm 54, grew up listening to LRB, my mom was crazy about this band. Living in Florida, I would always go to the beach and whenever I went alone, I would go at about 8am, no one there yet, and I would sit with my coffee and a book and listening to the waves crashing and the seagulls singing! and I would listen to this song and it was a special time for me and this is a special song. I even have Cool Change tattood on my arm
I grew up playing The Greatest Hits Album ( came out in '82) as loud as it would play on my stereo record player in my room!! I was born in 1970 and miss the sound of vinyls. This song, to this day, is one of my favorite songs ever. I still get lost in it every single time. Great review
Cool change was my favourite Australian expression. It is when the weather changes direction from the hot North to the cool south. After 45 degrees Celsius for days on end the change of direction to a cool change is the best feeling in the world, especially if you have no air conditioning.
Dear Harry, you have the most beautiful gift of appreciation for these songs. I love your reactions and thoughts from your heart and soul. What a beautiful person you are spreading love and joy through music and your light.
Interesting to hear you say how The Eagles are a similar sort of band. I've always thought of the Eagles as America's version of The little River band.
Love this song. I just love LRB. This is one of those songs that I listen to when I'm down. I can relate to this song. I'm so glad you did a reaction to this
Second best band out of Australia after AC/DC for me. You already reacted to my favorite LRB song It's a long way there. There are two versions however! Hint hint
Harri I've been loving your LRB journey. I grew up listening to these guys. I don't think there's an LRB song I don't like. Their harmonising has always been a like an inspirational yet soothing balm.
You have hit the nail on the head, In a sad way this was his call for help and he wasn't coping at all. He left the band after this for a period of time, John Farnham filled his role for awhile, but eventually John left and Glenn eventually returned
Love your thoughts on how people need to get away from stress in their lives. I agree, performers especially, but really, all of us need this. If we aren't at our best, physically and mentally, how can we help others?
Harri, you are awesome! I love the heart & soul you put into your reactions. "Cool Change" is one of my favorite Little River Band songs ("Lady" is my #1). My third favorite song by them is "Reminiscing" & I strongly recommend it for a reaction. Take care & stay healthy!
Along with Chris Cross's "Sailing" one if the songs where you can literally see and smell the ocean. Close your eyes and go there with me cause it's time for a cool change
Haha, back in the 70s everybody teased me because I loved LRB, but I didn’t care! I still think they’re great. Glad you have been discovering what I’ve known for decades! Enjoy!
The brilliant songs of LRB are these days some what forgotten. When this song was released they were huge. This is one of my favorite songs, sophisticated, relaxing. Later, John Farnham would lend his amazing voice.
The images of this video are beautiful as well. Actually, the video is a big part of this song. A big part in enhancing the theme and feelings of the song. I’m a little surprised you didn’t comment on how beautiful the dolphins and whale were frolicking in the sea.
Wonderful band. Fame is fleeting and the pressure to stay 'up there' is strong. If you look away, it is gone. So the grind continues. "We're only immortal for a limited time." Neil Peart (Rush) R.I.P.
This is one of the best groups EVER! I love Beeb, Glenn & Graeham together! I love John Farnham as a SINGLE artist who sang with them for a few years. John is my favorite singer of all time but I liked the 3 original guys for Little River Band! John was way too powerful for them! Their "Full Circle" concert is on youtube & it's one of the best concerts I've ever heard! 😊
You're a class act. Best reaction channel by far. Thank you. Check out April Wine, Roller official music video or Here's Lookin at you kid. 15 studio albums and 4 live ones over 50 years.
Thank you Harri, great band and reactions! Could you also react to The Rain The Park And Other Things, Indian Lake, We Can Fly,.........by The Cowsills? Thank you so much!
Eminently relatable, even admirable sentiment expressed, beautiful imagery in the video, not really my thing musically, despite being quite fond of some of their other hits. Chaqu'un, etc.
"Staring at the full moon like a lover." What a great line.

@@garycolon4213 really disappointed to hear Goble and his ego talk about LRB and Glenn. Very disappointed. Glenn is the only voice of LRB
I think LRB had better harmonies than the eagles.
Every time I hear this song, I close my eyes I'm on the beach watching the waves break on the sand. Love this song!
Let's go sailing, whatdaya say?
May God bless Australia. The book and movie were actually wrong.. there really is a WONDERFUL LAND OF OZ.
Another song that goes nicely with this one is CSN&Y’s “Southern Cross.”
and of course Christopher Cross's 'Sailing'
Yes!!!
So nice to see Harri enjoying these classic hits by LRB. Thanks again for requesting this one, Alison!

According to Wikipedia it only charted in the US and NZ. They claim the single wasn't even released in Australia, which makes no sense to me at all.
OMG THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU 🙏 been waiting a long time for this one! Love from 🇨🇦
LRB has a wonderful deep cut called Middle Man that's worth your time.

One of their many great songs Harri. Glenn Shorrock s a great singer. Many great memories going through life back then with the LRB.👍
