I just love it when Madison goes to her stressful hair fiddling, you know whats coming after that. This episode is such a tear jerker. Think I have been crying all day watching reaction vids to this. Great react as always guys! This is really one of the best adaptations I have ever seen of a video game to TV series :)
Love the reaction guys :) Since everyone seems to wonder about the low flying planes...My idea is that since traffic control and the airports might allready fallen or closed and planes might have circled the airports allready for a longer time and the fuel is running out they go to the nearest safer spot to land and that would be highways. Street and building lights provide navigation helps.
Did you all hear the theory of the fungus coming from spoiled flour? No pancakes, no cake, the guy was feeding the grandma biscuits, Joel is on the Atkins diet, Sarah didn't take the cookies, and so on and so on. Also Indonesia is a top grain producing country. Kind of neat
The 80’s music is from Bill and Frank. When I first watched it I thought it was about Tommy, but after seeing it again you can hear Ellie ask Joel who Bill and Frank are when she is looking at the code.
Pedro Pascals performance is just something different, even though we might know what's going to happend, he can still convey emotions and make us choke up when Sarah gets shot. The anguish, the desperation, man they really struck gold when they got him on board
At first, I thought HBO wrong casted Ellie. But Bella Ramsey totally nailed it. The attitude, the rebel behaviour and everything I wish to see as Ellie. Long live Lady Mormont!
Nah.. still do think, they failed with her casting. It's just ok for me, judging by the first episode. But I'm more worried about the character changes of Joel and Tess. They're not nearly as badass as in the game. Especially Tess is almost a new character for me. They toned down their ruthlessness. In the game they were straight up criminals, who didn't hesitate, selling guns or torturing/murdering people.
@@Riddler0603 In the game they didn't show Tess' interaction with Robert or how she got away from him after being jumped. You're making assumptions on stuff. The actual game writer is writing the series and you presume to know more than he did? Lol. They haven't had any opportunity to show baddassery yet as they left out the meaningless combat tutorial mission from the game. Which would have not advanced the plot one iota. But I dunno, Joel punching a man to death with his bare hands is pretty badass. It just sounds like you're whining because you want people to look exactly like the game chars which is really childish. I'll take better acting over looks any day.
@@Riddler0603 hard disagree, I think she was a fantastic cast. She acts exactly like and sounds a lot like Ellie. I think they knocked the entire casting out of the park
Arcane is pretty solid too. Though I don't know if I would call that an adaption but it does uses League characters. Usually these are pretty crappy but TLOU and Arcane are next level.
Airplanes were looking for a place to land, since they were probably denied landing access due to the quarantine process. They were probably threatened with being shot down if they tried to land at the airport.
Well, yeah. The last plane we see that ends up crashing was probably due to an infected crew member (plane cabins got the new requirements after 9-11).
the scientist in the beginning with the glasses is played by the actor who played Marcus Volturi from twilight. He's also Sam in the van helsing tv series and he has a minor speaking role in the chronicles of riddick.
Ahhhhh, you're a hair twiddler like me :D The reference to Jakarta is to wheat products in general and ties in with several other references to 'biscuits', 'cookies', 'pancakes' and 'cake' made in this episode... none of which were eaten by Joel, Tommy or Sarah. I think those aircraft are maybe taking off. Spores, one of the major changes from the game. In the game, when an infected reaches the final stage they release spores when they die and these float in the air to infect others, making the carrying of gas masks required. For live action filming, gas masks on your actors aren't ideal so spores were replaced with the fungal tendrils coming from the mouth of an infected 'runner' (first stage infected). Fun fact; Joel's watch was broken again during the fall when Sahara died, so every time he looks at it he is reminded of the exact time he lost her. The story of Ellie and Riley begins in the comic 'The Last of Us: American Dreams' and in the DLC 'Left Behind' which will be gone through in a later episode. From the moment she did "6,7,8, Fuck You" Bella became Ellie for me lol. Yeah, Joel seems to have PTSD and had 'an incident'. If you notice when Ellie had that peice of paper in her hand with the radio codes on it, at the top it said B/F... think back to the game who B/F might be :) See you next time.
I've watched this show a hundred times and Joel's line "Tommy, help me!!!" always breaks my heart. Maybe because my daughter was the same age as Sarah or Ellie at the time... And at the end, the great Depeche Mode song "Policy of Truth" from the 80's... The music, the scenes, the hole sets are just amazing.
In the game, if you linger you see people being lined up and tested. You see one euthanized and one tries to run and is shot. If YOU try to get too close to a soldier, YOU get shot. I think they did a good job giving you these story beats (Testing/Euthanasia) with the kid and (FEDRA no tolerance for disobedience and interference/insurrection) with the hangings
Plot change. Spores are not a way the infection spreads here. Its the tendrals left behind by the infected that will lead to further spreads if near them. Still basically direct contant after death instead of airborne like the games

Love you reaction guys. Keep in mind tho, the creators have decided to eliminate contamination through spores. Bites are the way on being infected in the series.
I don't know if you missed it or not but gonna say it anyway. The spread of the disease supposedly happened in a flour mill where the fungus had perfect substrate to grow on. Not all fungus are mushrooms but all mushrooms are fungs. Also, the world has gotten warmer in the past decades which is known to all but the interesting thing is human body temperature across the globe has also decreased by minute degrees. The type of fungus that is parastic is generally like ascomycetes, or deuteromycetes and most of them affect plants. It's highly unlikely that the "cordyceps" Shown here is a Basidomycetes aka mushroom
Game sarah dying was a crazy cinematic that was over quite fast and by the time jump it never really felt to important except in a few key moments... Weras show sarah had more screen time made it more real..and made it so we always remembered her going forward..in terms of joels being. Few scenes later make sarah even more important... ❤ Yhey did her good.. the actress was on point
Just found you guys and enjoying what I found. Good stuff!! Was wondering though, after checking you movie reactions playlist, I don't see much "classic great" horror (IE The Shining, The Thing, etc...) or fantastic horror series like "The Haunting of Hill House". Did I just overlook them, with my old eyes it's possible... highly likely :D... or do you guys not do that stuff. Thanks and keep up the good stuff!
People going into the city had nothing to do with getting infected actually, it was grain/flour. The biscuits the Adlers ate. The pancakes Sarah didn't get to make, the icky raisin cookies she didn't eat. The cake Joel didn't pick up. It was sheer luck Joel, Tommy, and Sarah weren't infected. There are no spores in the tv series, it was a logistical nightmare and it would be impossible for people to not get infected that way barring wearing a gasmask 24/7 so the showrunners chose to not go that way. Trouble means Bill and Frank are in trouble.
A thing that I don't know if you guys catch but in the scene with the infected on the wall they aren't spores coming out and the reason is they won't be using they because if they uses them all of the people already be infected like there's nothing that can contains the spores
Will def be checking out your reactions from now on. Never played the video game but this first episode was terrifying and hits a little too close since C19
They ditched the Robert story because in the game they use it to get you used to the controls. Shooting, melee, crouching, sneaking, throwing things to distract etc before taking on the infected but with this adaptation their is no need for that so they can get straight into the main story. They added it to introduce Tess and be faithful to gamers by at least showing the issues Joel and Tess have with Robert, they just skip the conflict you have in the game.
Fr the beginning had my by my throat I was like bruh I know of these fungus and your telling me that just a rise in temperature across the planet could make this somewhat possible... GAAAWWDAYYUUM. Global warming really be a warning
I cried like a toddler, even though I saw the scene in the game x times and knew what was happening. My conclusion after this episode: I've never been so captivated by the start of a series based on a story I know inside and out. And it is Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again (1987) ua-cam.com/video/snILjFUkk_A/v-deo.html
haha, joel is the opposite of a hero, especially in the end. thats the point, we're just sympathetic becuase we play as him in the game, didnt work as well for people in 2 for abby despite her being the hero and just in what she does.
I'm thinking that the little kid in red shirt and green shoes might have also have been immune, the lady asks how long had they had the wound, seeing as the child probably has been walking for hours and even days on end, wound still being kinda fresh, they just killed them since they saw they were in the red without a second thought even when the child wasn't showing obvious signs. That just my speculation, cause even if Ellie has the cure, Military would not want to lose their power over people and like I said when I played the game, humans would not stop doing what they were doing in the game, they would get a whole lot worse.
Why does it take so many years for joel to decide to go find tommy? Just because he recently stopped writing? U would think they’d want to be together sooner
Head over to Reel Rejects - they are doing 2 reactions - 1 with people who have played the game and the other with people who haven't. I'd never heard of the game or even watched the trailer - so I'm still reeling from that wild emotional ride!!
I also just watched Sesskasays and while she had heard of the game, she never played it and didn't know the storyline. You'll get several doses of "complete shock" there! 😂 But I'm still enjoying the reactions of those who played the game - there's a deep appreciation for this series across the board.
They didn't use spores in the show compared to the game. Presumably because everyone would be wearing masks all the time, and spores are far worse so everyone would really be gone.
I've been watching a lot of these 'reaction' videos and I'm triggered by all you youngsters that don't know the immortal Depeche Mode 😠 lol Edit: end credits song/band

Old man strength is a real thing when it's someone that's just done manual labor their whole life.
@@JayVee1 i know but after 50 things will literally fall apart im not talking about illnesses i mean joints, bone density i saw this in my own father he is a retired officer 50 is a weird age
@@ohara. 6 months before my father passed away from cancer he was still clearly stronger than me when I was 28, he never touched a weight set all manual labour strength.
@@theiaofseed bless him may he rest in peace i know conditioning is a real thing im not questioning that its just that he was fighting for his life too still he got killed :D
@@ohara. And Joel in the tv series DOES have knee problems - and is hard of hearing in one ear due to gunshots
Ugh, such a good first episode & amazing reaction too❤️
Can’t wait for episode 2👀
Amazing Episode, Amazing Reaction - Joel & Sarah's scene is so heartbreaking - both in-game and now in live action - overall, a phenomenal episode!
Love you reaction guys. Keep in mind tho, the creators have decided to eliminate contamination through spores. Bites are the way on being infected in the series.
And bread, it seems.
9:43 "Shoot her! Do we have a gun?" LOL that's what I expected too with this being in Texas
I've been waiting for your reactions! Can't wait to see more! ❤
Maddie always gives the best reaction
The game was 10 years ago, they shifted it to make it hit a little different
Game sarah dying was a crazy cinematic that was over quite fast and by the time jump it never really felt to important except in a few key moments... Weras show sarah had more screen time made it more real..and made it so we always remembered her going forward..in terms of joels being. Few scenes later make sarah even more important... ❤ Yhey did her good.. the actress was on point
Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again, 1987
Just found you guys and enjoying what I found. Good stuff!! Was wondering though, after checking you movie reactions playlist, I don't see much "classic great" horror (IE The Shining, The Thing, etc...) or fantastic horror series like "The Haunting of Hill House". Did I just overlook them, with my old eyes it's possible... highly likely :D... or do you guys not do that stuff. Thanks and keep up the good stuff!
It's in the flour all baked flower goods they never eat the cake the pancakes the cookies.
9:50 she screamed like in 2 different tones lol
12:12 To avoid radar and being shot down.
Sarah's death in the HBO show is even more visceral 💔😭
Gabriel Luna and Pedro Pascal sound JUST like them in the game
9:41 im sorry but that was an extremely funny and proper american response
They said spores won't be part of the TV plot
People going into the city had nothing to do with getting infected actually, it was grain/flour. The biscuits the Adlers ate. The pancakes Sarah didn't get to make, the icky raisin cookies she didn't eat. The cake Joel didn't pick up. It was sheer luck Joel, Tommy, and Sarah weren't infected. There are no spores in the tv series, it was a logistical nightmare and it would be impossible for people to not get infected that way barring wearing a gasmask 24/7 so the showrunners chose to not go that way. Trouble means Bill and Frank are in trouble.
I'm never gonna look at cakes the same way again
A thing that I don't know if you guys catch but in the scene with the infected on the wall they aren't spores coming out and the reason is they won't be using they because if they uses them all of the people already be infected like there's nothing that can contains the spores
Random thought but pretty sure yall are vampires .. great reaction!
Will def be checking out your reactions from now on. Never played the video game but this first episode was terrifying and hits a little too close since C19
I blame president bush for the apocalypse.
Underrated comment.
They moved the time period that the story takes place from 2013 (Game Release) to 2003 (TV Show) The calendars in the game still show 2013, lol.
Pretty sure they said there isn’t going to be spores which is gonna be a bit weird
MAC Please keep in mind that spoilers go both ways. Not everyone is a gamer.
I love this show
Oatmeal raisin cookies are 100000 times better than chocolate chip
Girl, while you're watching put some leave in moisturizer on your fingers because your ends are gonna die with this show. xD
Play the PS5 version, it looks amazing!
To be honest.. Pedro Pascal took 2023 already
I cried like a toddler, even though I saw the scene in the game x times and knew what was happening.
My conclusion after this episode: I've never been so captivated by the start of a series based on a story I know inside and out.
And it is Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again (1987)

Get ready for the next episode tomorrow 😱😱💀
Y'all are around San Marcos?! I'm right outside of Austin. ❤️
I like your channel. It’s a subscription for me.
Are there uncut reactions?
haha, joel is the opposite of a hero, especially in the end. thats the point, we're just sympathetic becuase we play as him in the game, didnt work as well for people in 2 for abby despite her being the hero and just in what she does.

I'm glad that i didn't play this game..so there is no spoilers for me 💓
Teenage girl wakes up at 2am and goes to check her neighbors "omg shoot her...does she have a gun?" Lmfao 🤣 love you guys
Why does it take so many years for joel to decide to go find tommy? Just because he recently stopped writing? U would think they’d want to be together sooner
Is there not a single reaction where no one has played the game? I want complete shock like we experienced.
Still amazing reaction tho 😢
Head over to Reel Rejects - they are doing 2 reactions - 1 with people who have played the game and the other with people who haven't. I'd never heard of the game or even watched the trailer - so I'm still reeling from that wild emotional ride!!
Their is a lady who's channel name is Molly bee, she mentions in her trailer reaction that she hasn't yet played the game!
I also just watched Sesskasays and while she had heard of the game, she never played it and didn't know the storyline. You'll get several doses of "complete shock" there! 😂 But I'm still enjoying the reactions of those who played the game - there's a deep appreciation for this series across the board.
Now you know how manga readers feel when watching an anime adaptation
Fun Fact...earth is getting warmer...see Doomsday Glacier.
They didn't use spores in the show compared to the game. Presumably because everyone would be wearing masks all the time, and spores are far worse so everyone would really be gone.
🤟Tommeeee 🤟 🤣🤣🤣
16:11 Abby 🥰🥰
No lol. That kid is dead, they showed it
I've been watching a lot of these 'reaction' videos and I'm triggered by all you youngsters that don't know the immortal Depeche Mode 😠 lol
Edit: end credits song/band
Fanboy alert lol but that was a pilot and a half... Oof last few scenes especially 😂 got the juices flowing eh
