So taking 7 seconds of thought before you leave your best friend for 20 years strikes you as hesitant. Ever considered he made his mind up on the spot and just took a moment to memorize her face and quietly say his good byes without hugs or kisses, for his own sake as well as for Tess, knowing the most important thing is to keep it together to survive.
      Just a thought wink

Also fun fact bout Tess: (not spoiler)
In the Show Tess was in Love with Joel, Joel was too but because of the times they live in it's hard to have feelings for someone one or admit it to them because any giving moment you can die or get infected or they can die or get infected, this is why Tess told Joel " I've never asked you for anything & I've never even ask you to feel what i feel" you can see Joel's eyes get watery a bit while looking in her eyes, you can tell they both wanted to hug & kiss eachother but because she was already infected they couldn't which makes that goodbye even worst.

My greatest respect for the acting performance of the two actors at the beginning.
Imagine you are a commander in the military and you seek advice from a professor of mycology, a scientist in a mainly theoretical field, and her only advice is that you must bomb an entire city with all the 10 million people living in it in order to stand a chance against the spread of a previously unknown disease. Scientists are not exactly known for immediately calling for the execution of innocent civilians. That must really be extraordinarily terrifying to hear such a demand from the mouth of a scientist.

    Another Tess funfact: (no spoiler)
In the show Tess even has a bit more back story, you can see how Tess starts to show slowly that she is starting to like Ellie & Ellie starts to like & respect Tess, kinda seeing her as a Mother figure, Tess's motherly instincts were being subtly shown very briefly, hitting that Tess must've been a Mom or had a family before the outbreak, & according to Director Craig Mazin, she did.
During the outbreak her Husband turned first & infected her Son, Tess kills her husband, but couldn't kill her son so she locked him in the basement, so this is why Tess & Joel loved eachother & stuck together & did so many fucked up shit together for years to survive & because they had both lost their kids, so they found comfort in eachother cause they were connected & had a common & similar trauma connecting them to one another.

Apparently, the actors who played the clickers were all fans of the game so that's why their movements were spot on. Besides guessing the flour as being the contamination source early on Eric Voss theorized Tess dropped the lighter because of her involuntary twitching, I like to think she dropped it deliberately because she decided to go out her way with her humanity intact. Either way, it was some outstanding acting from Anna Torv.

As an Indonesian , i always terrified when i'm imagining some kind of outbreak start in Jakarta, we can never contain it. Like covid, we failed to contained it. Jakarta is so big, and connected to 4 cities around it, no borderwall, no gap, you can only see the border from map. You walk on some street in Jakarta and won't realize you already in another city. Any outbreak start from Jakarta or any cities connected to it will spread like wildfire.

When i saw the kid in episode 1 in Sarah's class starting to shake his hand, omg that was scary. I understood in a way all the decisions made by Joel, even by the guard trying to kill them, and now. The severity of the situation they dont have medicine and most importantly those machines to detect who is infected or not, because back then not everybody got infected because was bitten, but because what they ate.

I LOVED how they did Tess' death (despite being SO sad to lose her so soon l, i loved her)
I loved seeing genuine fear at her oncoming death. As soon as Joel and Ellie closed the door behind them, of course she was determined, but she's human. And she's alone. The way she starts breathing quickly in fear felt so real, and the infected coming to her and connecting into her mouth was so horrifying too.
I just love they chose to do it that way as opposed to a "bad-ass" way, which wouldve felt a bit contrived maybe?

Those 14 people in Jakarta wasn’t necessarily the sole reason that it spread so fast. It was all just the flour production and such. A lot of countries got flour and grain from Jakarta and used that to make lots of foods. That’s why Joel, tommy, and Sarah didn’t get infected in the beginning. They ran out of pancake mix and Joel forgot the birthday cake. Then they go outside and see the grandpa feeding grandma food that might have been made with flour or grain. And then the auntie made raisin cookies, and Sarah changed her mind and decided not to have any. It’s the little things like this which give it so much depth.
Also, with a lot of the major cities being in complete ruin, it is implied that they did attempt to bomb everything and everyone. But it was already too late. Even if they had listened to Ratna, so many people around the globe have eaten their crop, their flour, their grain. The patient that they examined wasn’t even patient zero and 30 hours had already passed since then. They already missed their chance to try and do something about the fungi.

"Word of God is that Tess was struggling to work the lighter because she was already being rapidly taken over by the fungus and it was affecting her motor control, and not moving away from the Stalker because if she fought back or ran the Infected would rip her to shreds. She spent her last moments of life full of terror and dread, being physically violated and battling her own body to save herself from a Fate Worse than Death and to protect Joel and Ellie."

I've also been really impressed with how well the show has been sticking to the game. I've seen some criticisms of the changes but at least so far I've been fine with them: it's fun to solve puzzles when you're playing, but watching others solve puzzles is boring. Same with the combat: in the game you need more combat and more variety of enemies so that you don't get bored, but watching a lot of combat that doesn't have any emotional weight gets monotonous really quick. Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin obviously understood all that and made a few of those changes appropriately. It's funny - the game came out in 2013 but I feel like after the last couple of years and the pandemic that they whole thing hits different now and you feel a bit more invested in the possibility that something like this could potentially happen which makes it much more intense as well (at least for me).
Looking forward to next week! Cheers

It's really something special, but can easily be spoiled even with a single word. And the best way to watch it is with its original Japanese dialogue with English subtitles. (And to ease doubt about viewing it cold, there is no nudity or gratuitous gore and violence).

I love the hidden details... it started in Jakarta, and found in a victim from a grain factory. So the grain/flour was infected and shipped worldwide.
Now remember the scenes from the first episode: neighbour granny getting a biscuit put into her mouth... Joel forgot to buy the cake... no pancake breakfast...
Joel on Atkins diet.... Sarah rejecting the cookie because it was wrong flavour...
That gives another question: early how many secured places gave flour/baked thing afterward to the survivors, not realising how dangerous it is.
Even months later if someone loots a store or a house for supplies....
By the way probably it wasn't a kiss from alien point of view, it was an easy entry point to enter, to infect. TBH it was the most disgusting thing i have ever seen... yuck.
I'm conflicted about bombing. Yes if you kill half a million/million in a city center it's less infected, but also faster spread because you can't lock door, hide, since structures are damaged. And minimum 10% will survive. But less comes out.
Same goes for fire/napalm. There are many ways to kill humans with no structural damage: machine guns, chemical weapons/military gas, etc.
Also if it is worldwide soon you cannot destroy the nests but make safe zones with high strong walls.
it's fascinating the differences, ways of these infected.
    1. normally they only spread fungus by wounds/blood. (and Mouth. yuck.)
    2. the clickers are heavier mutated, blind and "see by making clicking sounds and hear the echo (Echo localisation is possible, there are even a few blind human that can do it, literally know there is an obsticle and can avoid it making clicking sound)
    3. No airal spores (nests/more rare variants might do it): I wonder why Joel's face isn't covered in mask all the time (Pascal in the Mandalorian... :))
I love this change, we see more of the wonderful acting, which is spot on by the way.
    4. Fungus wired telegram: well their alarm system is frightening... You killing one may alert the whole zone....
    5. intelligence: they do attack instantly, but not mindless: they seem to have basic brain so won't run into a stake, fall into holes like lemmings, etc. More like
a rabid animal, too mad to use complex tactics but not only motoric functions.
    6. Are they zombies? I think not. The living victims get infected, and the fungus spreads in them, preserves them, etc. etc. But this have no effect on the dead.
So that "first" found victim who died from gunshot will never rise again. Once killed you can "safely" toss the bodies into fires so the fungus dies,
transport those found positive and used medical ethuansia and died are safe to transport. So when they found the fireflies all that died are safe, but there was one
    only injured who turned.
I wonder what the story will be, except a few milestones from now on they can do whatever they want. Which is exciting.
Also hope they will show more flashbacks, so far they were super intresting.
The only thing I want want WANT is them looting. Grabbing ammo, grenades, first aid kits, foods, etc. etc. It's an important part of this how to survive world.

When i was watching the show, I didnt realize this was the place they were supposed to take ellie. It seemed so close? I thought marlene was wanting her taken across the country, to that school where the monkeys were at.

In last week's episode that doctor said there was nothing that could be done if fungi evolved to attack humans, that claim is repeated here by the Indonesian doctor. I would suspect that someone in the position of these two doctors would know about the fungi eating fungi--Trichoderma--it specializes in eating the exact fungi used in this show. So, even IF it did jump to humans, we do have a medicine.

A gunshot wound to the head, means the person is dead. Why are you scared of her biting or jumping off the table? She's DEAD.
    This isn't a zombie show...

My complaint with Tess in the show vs the game was 1. She didn't get any badass moments. 2. No signature bandanna. 3. That weird kiss 💋 at the end. 4. More on-screen time.

Doesn't know how to swim or how deep the water is, but knows how to "ding" the receptionist's bell, and that there are "suites" in hotels...it's always in the details.
I mean - either do it right, or don't do it at all.

She mentions she reads books. It’s easy to learn about physical stuff and the dialogue around it from books. Can’t really learn swimming or know how far down the floor should be from a one though.

Im sorry bit if a clicker attacked you in the real world, like the show is trying to convey, your scared asses would just shoot. The clickers are strong, fast, tough and durable. Even, if you shoot it in the head, the fungi has turned into an armor. The clickers were humans who have been infected for over a year. The clicking is echolocation since they're blind. The way they did it in the show shows a more realistic situation. Meaning, its not as simple as just , "shooting them in the head". Like everyone is saying in all the reaction.
