I have tried this technique more than once and the results were awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this idea and I look forward to the next one. Please make more. Totally cool! Love your style. Thx
Actually it would be for both reasons,... it is bare wood, I'm in the gluing process and should be cutting up the board soon. I'm hoping also that by percolating before and after that the paint will Pop a little more.
Hello there! I really love the channel and it has inspired me to get back into being a more creative person, so thank you very much indeed! I really want to try this diy, but I have read the comments, and I'm really scared that I will waterlog the deck. you said that you need to spray it with a 'lacquer' to waterproof it first. Please can you tell me what that is, and the product that you used please? your advice would be greatly appreciated. :)
Hi Timmy, the board I'm using came coated with clearcoat which makes it waterproof. You could use a clear water-based laquer over top, or just spray paint the whole board first to seal it.
Hi Fieldey! Thanks a lot for getting back to me, I really appreciate it, i was holding off until i got some professional advice . I have watched all your videos and I love your art style, so I can't wait to see what you do next! :)
Hey! Just found this fantastic tutorial and I'm so happy I did! One question: Do you know if the soap technique would work with acrylic spray paints as well?
You know this with spraypainting skateboard and splashing some soap for a cool effect... Can you do that directly on the tree? What i mean is can you sandpaper the board and the direct put soap on it, spraypaint and then clean it or do you need atleast 1 layer of paint before you put the soap? Is it bad for the tree with soap?
I would give it a very light sanding to give the paint something to stick to, but the lacquer is going to waterproof the board so you don't want to take it all off.

Tips on doing this without waterlogging the board?
Buy a blank that comes with a layer of laquer - as per the one I'm using. Otherwise, make sure the first layer of paint covers the entire board which will waterproof it.
+keale s You don't need to clear coat it first, unless the board is bare wood and you think it's going to soak up too much paint or you are worried about waterlogging it.
+keale s if you haven't already done this for your son, I would highly recommend not spraying the board with a hose. A water logged board is practically junk when it loses all its pop due to being wet. Try just wiping it down quickly with a wet wash cloth.
+MrGhostranger I haven't tried it myself so I couldn't recommend it - I'd test it out on something else first to see how it goes. Make sure you use acrylic based sprays as well ;)
+Grecia Portugal It would depend on what the case is made of... if it was smooth and shiny it'd pay to give it a light sanding so the paint sticks to it better
Fieldey TV: Art & Tutorials ok, I've done a crackle effect with elmers glue and paint before. just wasn't sure if it would give this effect. thank you for responding
+Carlos_ sk8s The board I'm using has a super durable lacquer coating so the water's not reaching the bare wood, but it's a good point you made - this technique isn't suitable for a uncoated board.

Brilliant! Very creative! :)
If you do this don't spray the board with a hose because it will get waterlogged and hard to skate I recommend just rubbing it off with a damp rag
Thanks for the tip - I definitely don't recommend hosing a natural wood board, the one I'm using has been lacquered so it's waterproof.
Always like your vids, keep up the good work
Inigo566 Thanks man!
Thx for this dope tutorial ! Nice vid :$
Love this kind of art, and the kiwi accent :)

Perfect :)
nice!!
SO COOL!
Hey what if my board already has a existing graphic on it? Do I sand it off or post over it.👍🏻
Paint*
Thanks a lot. Can I spray paint my brand new skate board without sanding the paint off?
+completelystupid87 You'd need to get rid of the shiny coating on the board first so the paint has something to stick to.
nice job, no aqua lol - yet
headcasechad There's still time...
Thanks for the information! I was wondering what you would do for dipped skateboards? Could you just paint it without coating?
Hmm... I'm sorry - it's not something I've worked with before so I can't offer any specific advice.
Yepp is was soap... thank you. :)
Still trying to get this to work with black & white numbers.
Is it necessary to sand off some of the lacquer before beginning?
I would give it a very light sanding to give the paint something to stick to, but the lacquer is going to waterproof the board so you don't want to take it all off.

What type of spray paint would you recommend?
Any acrylic based sprays work well - some brands that I like are: Montana, Molotow & MTN
I'm attempting to make a board for my son, can I clear coat the board first, before painting it multiple colors?

You waterlogged the borad...
😭
Dude Ik I'm just like -.-
Can you paint the first layer with paint acrylic
+MrGhostranger I haven't tried it myself so I couldn't recommend it - I'd test it out on something else first to see how it goes. Make sure you use acrylic based sprays as well ;)
if i were to do this design on a phone case would i still need to sand it ?
+Grecia Portugal It would depend on what the case is made of... if it was smooth and shiny it'd pay to give it a light sanding so the paint sticks to it better
+Fieldey TV oh okay thank you 😊
🤘❤🤘
What grit sandpaper would you recommend for sanding off graphics?
240
Can you use glue instead of the soap?
It would stay stuck to the board which is not what you want
Fieldey TV: Art & Tutorials ok, I've done a crackle effect with elmers glue and paint before. just wasn't sure if it would give this effect. thank you for responding
It's sick but the board is now water logged and has less pop and will last very shortly
+Carlos_ sk8s The board I'm using has a super durable lacquer coating so the water's not reaching the bare wood, but it's a good point you made - this technique isn't suitable for a uncoated board.
+Fieldey TV oooo that's sickage
sah dude ok good
ya great idea water log the board why don't you
Board was varnished before I started it - as mentioned before in the comments, DON'T do this on a bare wooden board.
Your verry pretty do you have any social media
