I grew up in the Hamptons and I always hated saying that cause people would immediately assume I was rich, I shared a bedroom with my brother in a tiny home from the age of 9 all the way to 19. to see a video to finally represent the actual working residents of the Hamptons a massive refreshment.

It was a relief to see locals still in the Hamptons! You have a pretty place there, very beautiful. It’s a shame the tourists are coming in and out pricing the locals on housing etc. The same is happening here in Sydney. All the best from Australia 🇦🇺
Yeah. A good perspective won't pay the bills forever in a place like that unless they're pulling down millions. You won't believe how many guys from Southern California and the Hamptons I met in the Philippines the last time I was there. Rent a place with some other surf heads for pennies on tbr dollar. Argentinians decided they'd have enough of hyperinflation. What are guys like this going to chose?
@@RJT80Argentina very much on the brink of collapse with their new president. But if you’re arguing for someone like Bernie Sanders to come in and give the middle class a chance again, instead of our whole economy being geared towards making billionaires richer, I think you have a decent point.

Peter, this is a diamond 💎 of a video, showing the people who make it possible for the Hamptons to run. If it weren't for them, the rich would have to bus people out from the city.
Jimmy is THE BEST !!!!!! Those young men were incredibly well spoken, you could feel their sense of loyalty and pride for the Hamptons as well as their passion for sustaining the environment in which seems to be becoming compromised from over building and the toxins, chemicals being used to do so. Another GREAT Piece by PETER SANTENELLO !!!! What a Terrific Chanel !!! All The Best.....From Boston
Not to take anything away from the young guys as I enjoyed them n their enthusiasm and sense of community and sense of commeraderie but while I agree they sounded n certainly looked better than majority of young men n women today they are not exactly well spoken n articulate. It was simply refreshing to see confidence, humor n ability to interact with adults without having to hold Mommys hand or have their phone out,ear pods in n hoodie covering their head as a security blanket n having to engage with them by drawing every answer out of them just to try to teach them how to have a conversation. Also no likes, and honestly n literally thrown in. Reminds me of the men when I was young. I'm in 50's now.
I remember the 70's on the east coast and it was the best. People were friendly. You would set up in the morning an by the evening everyone was together having a cookout ,a camp fire etc.. many times my mom would let us kid's spend the night on the beach, no worries..Definitely not today world
I am an Eastern LI native. My family dates back to the earlier settlers of 1640, the birth of our nation. LI was a truly amazing place to grow up with wonderful people and unmatched scenery. It’s been years for me, but when I hear the ropes of a flagpole ring against its staff in the wind, I can close my eyes and be back on a dock back home. Great video. Thanks for posting.
My great grandfather was an Earl in the Netherlands came to New York in 1647. He brought over ten families to establish farms from Brooklyn to Montauk, I believe.
This made me so happy! I'm a Bonacker and I know those young boys well as they all went to East Hampton High School with my kids. Lucky to live here and was able to raise my two boys here with the families I grew up with. Hope we can all stay for a long time! Well done and such a pleasure to watch!
I'm from Southold born in Greenport hospital 71 years ago. I partied in the Hamptons when fun was still legal. Remember when Cream played at the CAVE? The YOUNG Rascals at the Barge. I thought paying $.50 per beer at the Barge was outrageous. I was a bayman and off shore fisherman. I caught a few bushels of Northwest harbor blue eyed scallops.
I love how he said, "As long as I still reading my books." Read and book are the important two words I appreciate! You don't hear them a lot anymore....
I’d like to expand on that. Long Islanders always made sure to pay into their school districts no matter their town’s economic class levels and they stocked their public libraries with plenty of books. It just became part of the culture as in much of the Northeast so even during the long cold winter season when you’re locked inside you have books to read either inside your home or at your public library. I was fortunate to grow up less than an acre away from the public library in my town and spent most of days there in cold winter and sweltering summers.
Yeah man. There's so much more to the east end than the bullshit you see/hear on tv/media. Salt of the earth people out there. Wish I never left there.
I think you’re missing the point- Teslas are part of the EV movement , I care about the environment so I’m driving an EV attitude - that’s what these wise young men are speaking to. The Green Deal, climate change BS hoax!!
Those guys are cool as ***, good to see real men still alive and kicking. I'll buy their merch just to part of that. I absolutely loved this vid. A breath of fresh air. Jimmy is a legend.

Those beach guys have the energy of a life spent by the sea! Amazing natural boosters. They must be immune to everything. Wow, what a great group of guys. I'm awed.
Peter, you hit another homer. I haven’t spent a ton of time in the north east but grew up living a similar lifestyle in Florida. We loved surfing and we loved nature but had to put up with the tourist. But the tourist also fueled our parents lifestyles and jobs. Hats off to those young men and I hope they get to stay in the area they love.
Love this laid-back guy Jimmy, and he's such a great tour guide. Great job to you both, you gave us a good feel of the place along with great views. Thanks for sharing this with all.
It kills me to see that older guy describe his wife taking most of what he likely built while praising his own replacement. Those hard working Latinos are living dozens to a house. And once they learn your skills, probably from you directly, they'll start their own business and undercut your hiring other illegals, pay them less than you would, and finally deal your fate. It would be amazing if we had government and native born pellet that actually recognized and fought for their own best interests. Americans have become soft and stupid even with disaster staring them straight in the face.
At the 25 minute mark, I hope that them discussing lawns with no native plants + the poison used to make those lawns green + useless golf courses in people's backyard make people understand how idiotic those things are. People want to escape to nature on summer weekends but destroy nature everywhere they buy property. Completely asinine.
@@MrBeatboxmasta this has been an issue since the 1980's. The rich people don't care. Didn't care then, don't care now. Landscapers don't care because they are getting rich off the owners of these big properties.

Peter, this is one of the best videos I've watched on UA-cam. Good work, and I loved Jimmy. What a wonderful tour guide and genuine old soul with a huge wealth of local history. Now documented, thanks to you.
I was at CG station Montauk and was on duty when the search and rescue alarm went off. We searched for John for about 12 hours. Coming back to the station to moor up and passing the community all cheering from Gosmans was the coolest experience in my career.
As a born and raised Cape Codder (50's/60's) I can totally relate to this. Couldn't afford to move back now if I wanted to` and celebrities have taken over my old barstool. Time marches on. Love your videos. Thanks for your efforts.
This is happening everywhere, to a lesser degree. I live on a lake in central Wisconsin. Any middle class family could afford a cabin, now houses have tripled in prices. Rich people buy the houses and turn them into VRBOs or stay one month a year.
1970's to now and still here. Its crazy how the cape has exploded in real estate values and so damn lucky I inherited mine. Thanks ever so much my dear MA!❤❤
Long Island could absolutely have it's own series. Suffolk County is like a state unto itself with so many walks of life and interesting characters. And of course - a host of craziness in the last decade. Housing costs, addiction, immigration, conservation of land vs overdevelopment, sustainable energy feasability. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else but there is certainly a pervasive sense of fear from the locals for the future of our home.
I’d love to see a whole series on Long Island. Go a little further west and focus on Mastic Beach and gradually go further west and show the diversity between the ultra rich and the poor and everything in between
I’m liking you more and more. We have similar ideas. I’m a 73 year old biker that isn’t your typical boomer and I like seeing young men like yourself interested in keeping our country free.

Born and raised in East Hampton. Left when I graduated. What you've shown is how we grew up. Everyone I graduated with that stayed in East Hampton is either a business owner or works for a classmate.
Yes, very impressed by those young men ; their ethos, knowledge, perspective and fitness. Not sure that you'd find as good a group down under.

It's so refreshing and encouraging to see young men with a healthy mind , heart and soul.
Old salt of the earth fellas like Jimmy are pure gold! We need to cherish these folks! There's so much to learn from them. That was magic! Thank you!
Omg Jimmy absolutely stole my heart - i can't. A true long islander.
The two surfer guys remind me of what guys that age were like in the 80s and 90s. Wish there were more like them!
Yes! 1970's too.
Why?
@@marygoff3332Definitely NOT the 1970s. The 80s and 90s yes, the 50s or even 60s? Sure. But NOT the 70s. Not even close.

I love seeing the young surfers in their twenties living their best life, well said gents. Now it time for me to get off my phone, great video!
This made me so happy! I'm a Bonacker and I know those young boys well as they all went to East Hampton High School with my kids. Lucky to live here and was able to raise my two boys here with the families I grew up with. Hope we can all stay for a long time! Well done and such a pleasure to watch!
Fun to watch!
@@KaiserBlade I doubt if more than a handful here have the slightest clue about what you wrote.
What an incredible place! I was hoping Ina Garten would invite them over for lunch in her garden...😀

I love how he said,
"As long as I still reading my books."
Read and book are the important two words I appreciate! You don't hear them a lot anymore....
You’re in the wrong bubble then bro
That’s because they’re New Yorkers
I’d like to expand on that. Long Islanders always made sure to pay into their school districts no matter their town’s economic class levels and they stocked their public libraries with plenty of books. It just became part of the culture as in much of the Northeast so even during the long cold winter season when you’re locked inside you have books to read either inside your home or at your public library. I was fortunate to grow up less than an acre away from the public library in my town and spent most of days there in cold winter and sweltering summers.
I love your guide. A lesser person might resent the rich people vacationing in the Hamptons. Good on him for being the bigger person.
He is
What a cool tour. I'm 60 and just learned more than I've ever known about the Hamptons. Thank you for today's education. 👏👍😊🇺🇲
Me too😊
Yeah man. There's so much more to the east end than the bullshit you see/hear on tv/media. Salt of the earth people out there. Wish I never left there.
What a pair of refreshingly switched on pair of young adults. Following their dreams, so good to see.
Amen
Yeah, they where cool dudes
So sad their water is being polluted and houses made unaffordable
And to see a 21 year old WITHOUT a phone in their hand ...literally never thought I'd see that again in my lifetime! Bravo to those boys 👏👏
Smartest 20 year olds I’ve ever seen!!! They are awesome! If they could all be like this - we’d be okay. Kudos to them and their parents!

Jimmy is so real- I love him - he’s a natural on the camera ❤
Those two young surfer guys were cracking lads, and give me renewed faith in their generation - when it’s their time to rule the world.
No kidding, they were fantastic.
Agreed. Love the can do attitude and the desire to preserve their home and way of life
They’re insufferable
Still didn't see george costanzas house in the Hamptons. But still a great video
@@jones2277 That's a weird take 😂 they were genuinely Cool
Best line - "They drive a Tesla so they care ".
So much wisdom in those young men.
100% Wise heads on young shoulders.
They do it to save on gas not for the environment. Sounds like brokies mad about other people doing good in life
Driving a Tesla means you didn’t realize the environmental impact of mining for all that garbage in your vehicle killed a rainforest. Stick to ice
Or maybe they just like the car. Not everyone who drives an expensive car is driving it to impress. What a silly assumption.
I think you’re missing the point- Teslas are part of the EV movement , I care about the environment so I’m driving an EV attitude - that’s what these wise young men are speaking to. The Green Deal, climate change BS hoax!!
I worked in Montauk, and now visit occasionally, as I live 60 miles west. This guy is legit Montauk!

Me too! Way too short but great video nonetheless.
Agreed. I love Peter's Videos!
I think we need a part 2 and 3 of this one - I loved every second of it - Jimmy and the beach bros
I want to see an episode of the spirits Peter sees.
Great video Peter! My Dad just passed away at age 85 (a week short of his 86th birthday) and he watched your videos as I do. I’m so sad I can’t talk to him about this one. It was great. Keep up the amazing work you do ❤️

I love the energy of these young men (24:00 and on) , and their practical wisdom. Freshness, life!!!!
Reminds me of Aspen …. Multi million dollar homes occupied only 2 weeks a year. Meanwhile locals can’t afford to live anymore .
Lots of places in the USA are becoming like that. Rich like a spot, trend, or lifestyle. They buy it up.
All the areas around Washington Dc are that way. Idaho and many other places.
Ridiculous. 😮😢
It’s a shame because once upon a time there were places for the workers to stay.
Thank you for your honest journalism Peter! One of a kind
What an excellent documentary and look into the other side of the Hamptons. Jimmy is a fabulous character, I could good listen to him all day.
As a long islander, I adored this video. It’s like a love letter to our island. ❤

They make good neighbors, too
At the 25 minute mark, I hope that them discussing lawns with no native plants + the poison used to make those lawns green + useless golf courses in people's backyard make people understand how idiotic those things are. People want to escape to nature on summer weekends but destroy nature everywhere they buy property. Completely asinine.
@@MrBeatboxmasta this has been an issue since the 1980's. The rich people don't care. Didn't care then, don't care now. Landscapers don't care because they are getting rich off the owners of these big properties.
its a problem everywhere the british empire's castoff descendants have landed & bred. some ancestral vestige of envy for the 'lords' estates. u'll hear 80 yr olds complaining of 'allergies' they never had 30 yrs ago, every spring now, coinciding w/ when they get the poison spread on their 'lawn'. ppl cant seem to connect the dots. dont even try to live inside city limits unless u want to manicure ur yard to these idiotic expectations
@@geminigypsytarot9349 It's not just the rich though. In pretty much any city, people have lawns instead of native plants.
Fell all the trees and level the land to build a house 'in nature'. It's everywhere. And then they wonder why the climate changes.
I was pretty amazed by the million dollar trailer parks on the ocean that doesn't even have a beach just a rocky coast. These idiots don't know there's wayyy better coastal real estate but maybe its all about the flex of having a place in the hamptons
Jimmy is the real deal. Great stories!

Touche!
I’d love to see a whole series on Long Island. Go a little further west and focus on Mastic Beach and gradually go further west and show the diversity between the ultra rich and the poor and everything in between
