One of my cats decided my now husband was her person on day one, basically, and she spent years patiently molding him into her very own cat dad. I used to tell him if we ever broke up, he had to take her, because she would never have forgiven me if she couldn't be with him.

The more absent parent gets mainly the good responses, while the more present parent gets more of the tantrums / duels of wills, despite (or rather because) of the closer relationship… - it’s astonishing how little it matters that Billi is a different species and technically all grown up: she still acts like a kid.

Billi's dad's whole attitude is just like my husband's towards our cat Link. if Link had a mat like Billi's, though, i feel he'd need a button where 'dad' is said happily (for him) and a button where it's more like a teenager going like "ugh, DAAAAD" (for me)
