MSFS 2020 | TUTORIAL: How to fly the Working Title Cessna Citation CJ4 | Complete Lesson

- Learn along with me as I take to the skies in the Working Title Cessna Citation CJ4 (version 0.10.2) under the expert tuition of Matt, one of the Working Title developers. If you're looking for guidance on something specific, click "show more" for chapters.
The CJ4 with the Working Title mod is an incredible plane. It's a joy to fly and, at the time of publishing, it's probably the most detailed and realistic aircraft in MSFS. It eats up the miles like the airliners but it allows you to fly into small airports and explore parts of the world that airliners just can't reach. If you haven't flown it yet, you absolutely should! And following along with this lesson is a great way to get started.
As we fly a short flight from London Luton (EGGW) to Inverness (EGPE), this lesson will teach you everything you need to know to conduct a simple flight, just as it would be flown in the real world. Matt takes us through setting up the aircraft from cold and dark, starting the engines, taxiing, taking off, climbing, cruising, descending and shooting an ILS approach. Along the way, we discuss the autopilot, VNAV modes, how the FADECs work, speed management and real world ops procedures.
Here's the route, for those who want to follow along:

Possibly the best tutorial video ever made for MSFS 2020. Thanks to both of you.
Agreed mate... well done.
@@AussieGamerVH Best one for sure!!! Thank you so much!
Agreed. I've watched it several times.
7 mins into the video and I want to shake the dev’s hand. What amazing work. Hope the FBW guys can benefit from this great collaboration.
You all are too kind!
@@mattnischan582 Thank you so much! Fantastic virtual flight experience. I come from the GA single prop world and would never experience this otherwise.
I think the video was good, but another video for the current model would be great.
What an excellent tutorial, 10/10
Thank you! 🙂
Hey, i know you
Just decided to give the CJ4 a go within the last couple days after always flying the FBW A320, and I found it very easy to pick up but I still wanted to clarify some things, this video was fantastic, thank you both!
Fantastic briefing. After watching this I reinstalled the working title mod, did some "circuits" around Canberra under manual control and then a short IFR flight to Sydney. Worked brilliantly. Two slightly dodgy but survivable landings. Now for something longer and higher!
Awesome video, as always Filbert. Much respect and kudos to Matt & the team at Working Title too. Matt has an almost ‘broadcast quality’ voice too.
He does! He can just talk and get it right first time, which is a skill I wish I had - then my videos would take half as long to make! Glad you enjoyed it.
Production and utility values are through the roof! Thanks guys for producing this gem, it’s really appreciated. Thanks to the incredibleWorking Title team too! 🤜🏻🤛🏻
I feel bad, I just turned it on, slammed on the power and took off. Like a rocket. Gonna spend about a week learning how to do it right now that I have a guide. Thanks your two!
This was an awesome tutorial in all aspects. I as a starter in flight sims learned a bunch from this, not only about the aircraft. but in general. Huge thanks for you both and great, great work!
This is, by far, one of the best flight simulator tutorial I've view. I have struggled with this mod but this video has greatly appreciated and has helped me understand this aircraft.
What a great idea from a user comment to include the flight plan so we can follow this tutorial as per yours. So far so good. I’ve learnt so much so far and will comment further once I complete the flight. So, for now, a massive thank you to you both. The best video tutorial by far that I’ve come across. Clear, concise and extremely well put together. You’ve got another subscriber. More feedback to follow once I’ve landed. 👏👏👏
This is exactly what I needed. The WT CJ4 is easily the best aircraft available for the sim, my thanks to the development team.
a32nx would like to know your location...
At least free aircraft
Watched while MSFS was running and duplicated your actions while in the sim. Excellent tutorial was much enjoyed. Thanks.
This is such a good video - well done, it was so informative. Its facinating to hear Matt talk about his part in the development and expereince of this jet. Its really interesting to understand some of the systems and how they work- also glad to see its not just me that struggles to keep the nose down on take off! It was so interesting to hear the two of you chat, he seems like a good person and you seemed to have a good chat. I will fly along with this video later and try to learn to fly this plane a little better. Thank you. :)
Very kind words, thank you so much.
Now that we have such an informative tutorial video for the CJ4, I just need a Biz-Jet World tour and fly around the world. Thanks to both of you.
Fan-freaking-tastic! Thank you for taking the time to make such a well-detailed and described video! Cheers!
What a fantastic tutorial Filbert, Matt. I've never flown the CJ4 before. Downloaded the Working Title mod and followed the tutorial in real time and it went like a dream. superb, thank you Filbert. \o/
I’ve been missing out on this plane all these months. Tried it for the first time over the weekend and it’s amazing
Fantastic video. Matt sure knows his systems!! I learned quite a few things riding along. Love the mod!!!
Can't beat this vid for a WT CJ4 mod tutorial. Thanks @filbertflies and Matt + all the team. Having a blast flying and learning, with aim of taking it for a spin in Vatsim. Cheers.
THANK YOU!!
I just got proficent in all the versions of the Garmin system, then "bought" this plane in my career mode after selling my trusty Grand Caravan, thinking i was in for a standard Garmin 3000 experience, and almost spat out my tea upon first "booting up" the avionics in this puppy.
HOLY MOLY what is this.. xD
Incredible tutorial! I've taken some notes but coming from a skyhawk I'm definitely going to have to watch again before I grasp it all. Kudos to the dev for explaining everything so well!
I have just found this video over the last couple of days. Just finished watching. This is an awesome video. Thank you.
Why did it take me so long to find this!!!!!!!! With this EPIC mod, this is my favourite to fly now!! Beautiful!
Thank you so much! I just did my first transition from multi engine pistons (been flying the Seminole and Seneca for a while now). Couldn't have gone better. ENZV - ENGM was a breeze. Got a bit carried away, so I hit my approach before watching the entire video, which resulted in no ILS. Didn't matter - vmc, and this plane is a blast to hand fly. Butter, baby!
Thank you!
I've seen many tutorials for many aircraft in different sims, but this one is really awesome!
Out of all the videos on the CJ4 mod, this is the most comprehensive and easy to understand one out there. Totally worth watching all two hours thank you.
Excellent, I'm really pleased you found it useful. Thanks for taking the time to say so. 🙂
This is hands down the best tutorial I have ever seen regarding flight sim. I am late to the CJ4 game but I will be flying this plane a ton now that I have seen this video. What an awesome job by the devs for putting this mod out and by you for the tutorial. Well done!
Thanks so much for the kind words - reading comments like this really makes it all worthwhile 🙂
Very helpful video. I'm used to flying the Boeing 737 for the last 25 years of simming bliss, and the systems in the CJ4 are much different, so this video was fantastic and now I have a much better understanding. Great mod, great video. Thank you.
Thank you Filbert and Matt! 2 hours well spent.
Loved this vid, Filbert. Excellent work from pilot and tutor!
I love your tutorials and have been spending some time in the CJ4. I think on one of these overviews you mentioned that you just set max speed or near it during the cruise. While playing with some of my last flights I started looking at the Fuel page and noticed that minor tweaks of the power can greatly influence your fuel usage and most important, your range and time to reserves. Backing off just a bit allowed me to make a destination without having to do a mid-air refuling. Thanks for you vids!
A truly incredible aircraft! So much effort for a completely free addon!
Never flew this plane, but you have me so excited about this that I will get up from my bed RIGHT NOW to play MSFS with this plane.
Excellent! I hope you enjoy it 🙂
This was a magnificent tutorial. This should be pinned at the CJ4 website/github. I am a GA flyer, but the work that has been made by Working Title to produce such a magnificent "payware quality" addition is single-handedly going to make me learn how to fly this beautiful jet. You will go down in the history of flight simulation as the "team" that produced one of the finest freeware offerings ever.
Just found this video as I want to transition from light GA aircraft (Cessna 182 and PA-28) to light jets. This tutorial is a master class and taught me so much. I’m definitely going to have to keep coming back to it because there’s only so much information you can take in during a sitting. Thank you guys for a great video. Your work is very much appreciated!
Wow just an awesome video. So instructive and entertaining. A pleasure to watch and to listen to. I bookmarked this one for further reference. Thank you both so much for taking to effort to produce this tutorial!
Fantastic video, amazing that you both took the time to go through this in so much depth.
Thank you
Thank you so much for making this! This is a fantastic step up from the 172
I cant thank you enough for sharing this information. This is the best tutorial I have watched to learn at a pace I can understand and wish you much success keep up the fantastic work.
Some things were only touched on briefly and some were explained in great detail. I (a novice) did have to run to google a time or two. But, what an awesome, quality tutorial. Thank you so much for spending the time and putting this resource out there for us. I'm now in love w the aircraft. Cheers!
Really interesting video, great to get some of the thinking behind all the work that went into this mod. Many thanks!
This was exactly what I needed to watch. You guys did a great job and I learned so much. Thank you both.
Best FS2020 Video for the CJ4!!! After watching this video I finished my first flight from Innsbruck to Nizza, everything worked as planned. Thank you so much for all the professional and helpful information.
Pleasure! I'm glad you found it useful and that you are enjoying the CJ4. :-)
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! Great to find your way in the Working Title CJ4 !
Glad to have found your tutorials Filbert. Thanks to you both for this in depth video.
This video is great, not just for this particular aircraft but it’s all round a great guide for light airliners and IFR
Such an amazing effort, both in the dev work and the tutorial video!! Thanks for the great work 😊👍
The best tutorial ever made. Thank you to you both!
Thank you so much for this video! I went from fumbling around with this nav system to feeling like a boss and smiling behind the controls now.
Incredible great stuff, guys, excellent work!
Great video and tutorial, to properly learn to fly the CJ4 by the book. These WT guys never stop from surprising me!. Thanks so much!
Pleasure! It's an incredible plane isn't it? Glad you found it useful.
Best tutorial I've seen for MSFS. Want a little bit more of take of position (TO) and when it goes automaticly to AP (or not). It is the only video i've seen about it so far.
I am beginning my serious CJ4 transition from the C-28 tomorrow and am very happy I found this vid as it will definitely serve as my instructor. It was a wonderful idea for you to bring a key WT programmer to literally provide step-by-step guidance. Very well done guys. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s flight with much less trepidation. To both of you, keep up your excellent work.
Thank you for the kind words, and best of luck with your CJ4 flying - I'm confident you'll love it! 🙂
Thank you so much for this video. It was fun watching and I'll very likely come back to it while learning to fly the virtual WT CJ4. Great job, I love it!
Definitely the most informative video for anyone learning to fly the CJ4. Excellently portrayed by both parties Many thanks guys!
Holey shit you pulled out all the stops and got the guy that wrote the software...... You more then earned my subscription! This is awesome thanks!
Wow I hear Maestro Matt's voice for the first time. Thanks for doing this :)
What a fantastic tutorial. This aircraft is an awesome plane! And i don't need to add "... for a freeware product" because it's right up there with the best of the payware products. Thank you Matt and thank you FilbertFiles for going to the effort.
I did a flight from KSLC to KDEN and the timing of this video was pretty perfect, got that that logbook thing at the same time haha. Great tutorial!
props to both of you, this was a awesome tutorial :D
This is a payware quality mod. This is what finally has made my attention drift away from Xplane 11 (which is the sim I've been using for the last three years). I had MSFS2020 installed in my computer for the past seven months but I rarely used it. The working title Cj4 mod is an excellent product. Thanks for creating it. MSFS2020 is finally starting to feel like a simulator and not a game.
Extremely informative video, perfect way to become comfortable flying the CJ4 in the Sim! :) (what an aircraft by the way...)
Chuch a great video tutorial, It learned me a lot. As a A320 flyer it is always a challenge to fly in a completely other plane. But you guys made my CJ4 life a lot easier. Thnxs a lot and thnxs to the great effort of the Working Title devs. I just made a great landing on EGLC. This only worked because of this tutorial.
Amazing tutorial. Thanks. Matt; amazing work by you and your team. Truly priceless!
This is one of the greatest MSFS tutorials of all time. 5th time watching.
This is a lovely comment to wake up to! Thanks, glad you're finding it useful. 😊
This is the best tutorial video on the cj4 I've seen. Thank you very much.
Thar's really nice to hear. You're welcome, and thanks for taking the time to comment. 🙂
First and foremost, thank you so very much for this excellent tutorial. I'm new to MSFS and am finding the CJ4 the best plane for me, in VR. But I just didn't know where to start with a lot of this. Brilliant!!
Secondly, Matt sounds like Brian out of Family Guy which adds a nice spin to it. Flying lessons from Brian the dog! :D
Haha, I had not heard it but now you mention it, I cannot unhear it! 😂
Lol, it's true!
Absolutely brilliant! Thank you guys!
Very good and complete tutorial and thank you the developers for improving the experience of the jet !!!
That’s the definition of study level
Thx a lot to both of you for this fantastic tutorial, I was looking around for a new plane to fly and this is definitely one I am going to add to my list of frequent flyers
This video and your CRJ tutorials have been the resource I learned most of my knowledge about these planes from. I can now comfortably fly them on vatsim, knowing I can deal with holds, know how to set them up etc. I have to thank you 1000x and would honestly appreciate another one for the A32NX or even the DC-6 from PMDG (although that could be lengthy).
Yes, there are many A32NX tutorials, but nothing comes close to these ones you made for the CJ4 and CRJ.
I'm glad you've found them useful! I'm hoping to do tutorials like this for the Fenix A320 when it comes out, and for the PMDG 737. I don't own the DC-6 and I feel the market is pretty saturated with A32NX tutorials, but obviously most of what's covered in the Fenix one will also be applicable to the A32NX.
What a beautiful and nice plane to fly. Very detailed systems, FMC etc. The only thing I miss is the door opening/close but that just a visual nicety. Great job by WT. It's my favorite nowadays. Currently version 0.12.11. 👨✈️
So much useful info! One of the best flight sim tutorials I've seen. Thanks to Matt and yourself
Pleasure! Glad you found it useful. 🙂
Great vid! I actually test and tune the FCU's and FADEC's for these engines, glad to see so much attention to detail was given
Oh cool! What an interesting job! Glad the Working Title version looks good to you.
Well I came back for a second try and landed like a chap!! Thanks to you and Matt I made it and learned even more. I know it's been awhile but this is one of if not the best tutorials I have followed. Thank you again.
Brilliant tutorial, best yet, many thanks to you both from all us simmers, thanks for taking the time to record this for us. Robert Wood, Rothesay, Scotland
Thanks for the kind words. 🙂
This was one of the best tutorials for an aircraft in MSFS! I didn't know anything about Cessna Citation CJ4 and i wanted to learn how to fly it properly. Thank you!
My pleasure! Glad it helped. 🙂
Brilliant tutorial, thanks to you both!
I just downloaded the mod. Holy smokes! You all took the crappy default plane and put it on steroids! What a joy to fly! Thanks to all the devs that worked hard at coding this for us to enjoy…
I just finished a Tour around America on a Caravan (and by America I mean the continent not the USA) This excellent tutorial just settled the debate I was having on what airplane take for a "Tour around the world"
Good choice! Nippy but you can land it almost anywhere.
I learn so much from this video...awesome video! Thank you 🙏🏽 guys!
Superb! The best tutorial I have ever seen. Thanks!
Awesome video! Will be so useful!! Thanks to both of you guys
This was a fantastic tutorial I really enjoyed running through each thing with you in the sim and following the same flight plan and almost the same landing! will watch a couple more times to really learn this aircraft. good job both of you on the mod and the channel. thank you.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
Brilliant! Hope to see more like this. Great style and love learning a bit about the backstory.
I intend to do more like this in the near future! :-)
Amazing addon, can't believe it's free! and brilliant video, thanks! 🙏
Cracking video on the aircraft and very much appreciated.
I just LOVE these type of content, very educational ♥️♥️
Wonderful tutorial, Bravo!
Thank your very much for this great tutorial - helped me very much understanding the CJ4.
VR makes getting to all the buttons so much easier.
Awesome snow prints on the pavement!
Best tutorial ever for MSFS2020.... Amazing and very well detailed... A must-see video.. THANK YOU.
Excellent and very informative tutorial, thank you so much for providing it. Great aircraft
By far one of the most detailed tutorials of an aircraft, even for a real pilot!! Keep the good work. Definitely deserves the sub
Just one thing I noticed, you forgot to input the minimums
thanks to both for this video, the mod is just so perfect and this video is as perfect as the mod. Kudos to both.
Awesome tutorial, to the point but still procedural for the sim, awesome!!
thank you for this good and detailed tutorial. Very helpful and informative. And the interesting interview aswell.
