NOTE: I am not sure why OBS is like a slideshow at some points in the video. I am working on making it as smooth as it is in the game. I can't even get outside shots of the plane because it becomes a slide show. If anyone wants to throw me a tip on improving this, I will try everything! I am currently in the process of trying to get it fixed.
What is your encoder set to on the recording settings?
It should be the Nvidia one. The newest one
Also the clouds don't help if there are a lot of particles on the air it will hit the FPS.
Not sure if you fixed your problem but I would try to record without gsync/freesync if you have it on!
I have one question, I've done everything you've done, my flight route is yellow instead of purple. Is there something I missed?
The most informative for a beginner that i've found so far. Thanks for this.
No problem man! Glad to help out!!
Pro-Tip: You should drop the gear when you're one dot below the GS (The GS diamond will be one dot above center), not established on the localizer. The goal is to be fully established (full gear and flaps) and Vref+10 at GS intercept.
Man ! You are an authority ! Thank you for the autopilot video, much appreciated it ! Yet another amazing video !
Thank you so much for uploading this & for the clear explanation. I was so confused after watching other UA-cam videos on how to do this, but after watching your video it was easy to understand. Roll forward a few weeks later & it’s like second nature to me now.
bloody marvelous. Complete and succinct and I have no doubt after watching this, over and over again, I'll be able to do it. :)
Always a banger 🔥
Bro, Thank you for this tutorial. I set up my first ILS approach with this aircraft because of your friendly and direct ways of teaching it!
Glad it helped!
Down to earth & informative, definitely planning on flying this jet a lot more often thank you for making the tutorial
Thanks man! I try to make it as informative and short as possible! ☺️
Best tutorial ever! TY
you have no idea how much you helped me, thanks alot dude.
Thank you, so easy to follow and understand!
Thanks captain for another great video really enjoying new flight sim and am learning a lot from your tutorials keep em coming👍
No problem my man! I’m glad I could help you out so much and that you are enjoying the new simulator! Let me know if you have any questions or something you would like to see covered!
Great video, its very useful for me,thanks again!
Thanks mate, finally a great video on how to land the CJ4 using ILS, been landing in snow storms, at night, feeling like a pro. Now I am hoping you've done one for some of the bigger aircraft :-)
Thank you for the knowledge.
Really love your tutorials, they are great and easy to understand. Thanks a lot
Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m glad I am helping you out!!
Very informative and well presented. Thank you.
No bs, explained it perfectly for me. Thanks bro, def subbed
No problem man!
This was the best ils I've seen for someone who has never done an ILS before. Other videos I've seen made it too difficult.
Brilliant. Thank you.
Nice job Captain!
Thanks so much my man!!
This great thank you!!!
Nice video!
As an armchair💺 FS enthusiast, this sounds like Chinese to me, with a lot of repetition needed to learn it.
...... After viewing it several times, I am getting it! ....EXCELLENT clear INSTRUCTION!
Do you know how long I've been looking for this fucking video?!
Massive respect 👍👍👍
thank you very much for this tutorial !! this is perfect for a beginner like me ;) thank u again
Glad it was helpful!
I used to hand fly the CJ4 when I first started, simply because I couldn't program the FMC. Now, a few months down the track and a lot of practice on Boeing airliners, I'm back on the Cessna. This was a great refresher course on the ILS approach and now I'm ready to give it another wirlie. One thing which is a real bummer and that is "No Auto Throttle" but it's just another thingy to get used to.
Very informative, thank you! liked and subscribed :-)
Awesome, thank you!
Awesome.. Thank you, Xplained very well..
Glad it was helpful!
thanks dude just landed my first ILS with major fog in Soeul , South Korea.
Thanks man
Many Thanks to you. very helpfull Video!!!
No problem my man! ☺️
nice video captain horn
Thank you!
I am late , but good video
Thanks a lot
apart from my last comment , you are excellent to follow ,,
no doubt something ive done , just strange followed exact
thank you! i was able to configure ILS in the msfs world map menu, but i was curious how to do it in the cockpit. this is exactly what i am looking for! the other msfs creators who are RL pilots lean heavily into jargon and lose me halfway through. Beginner pilot here, thanks captain o7
As much as I love for you to become a big UA-cam it would be very hard for you to interact with us if you had more subs but thanks for all the amazing content
Thanks so much for these kind words! I love interacting with everyone that comments. I try to rely to everyone which is possible at this point. I wish you become a big UA-camr soon, but I see what you mean. It would be difficult to reply to every single comment, but I would try my best. Join the Discord and I can interact with people a lot easier especially if I do get bigger. I don’t see a lot of you tubers reply to their comments and I think it’s very important that they do so, which is why I do lol.
after hitting activate you now have to hit exec (execute) to make the nav turn from yellow to purple
Thanks for that information! You saved my day! 🙏
Thanks very nice
Most welcome!
Nice landing
Thank you!
Nice recap of Proline 21 just for fun! Thanks! I will say a lot of company standards, mine included call for AP disengage at 200 AGL. Also I’m not sure the CJ4 has TRs. Great video though!
Thanks @CaptainHorn23 this looks like a really inciteful video however my CJ4 FNC (?) looks different to yours as if it's pre-programmed and some of the buttons that you use are showing NA. Is this due to some easy mode setting or something and if so do you know how I can disable it?
Great tutorial. Does AP control approach speed as well or this needs to be manually controlled?
Awesome video. Thank you for being do detail in this as well as you other DJ4 video. Have you done an RNAV flight yet? I'm using an Xbox series x and I really want to "like" the DJ4 but am struggling with the FLC/manage speed. Also, it doesn't seem to do VNAV/RNAV. I have seen some other videos but they do not explain the "how's and why's" when they are doing something. Things "just happen" and I'm wondering "how in the world did they do that"? I will say I do love the A320 RNAV approaches and can handle the best of them. The 737 max on an Xbox doesn't cooperate so I'm thinking maybe the RNAV on the CJ4 might not work on the Xbox. Any thoughts? Thanks again .
Great Tutorial, thanks! 🙂 How can you activate the reverse thrust at CJ4? In the case of airliners it is working perfect, but not in case of CJ4?
I use the Twitch OBS and the MSFS2020 replay mod. I run the replay and capture the video via the Twitch OBS. From there I place the raw video in Adobe Premiere Pro and edit it to the completed version. This seems to really work without dropping any FPS. Hope that helps.
Um, the CJ4 does NOT have reversers. I understand that version in MSFS has "magical" reversers though.
Lol I didn’t even know this. I’ve noticed the engine doesn’t slip or look like it’s reversing 😂
@@captainhorn23 Latest patch 9/17 disabled the reverse thrusters since they do not exist on this aircraft. The patch did, however break the altitude select. As soon as you change the alt knob the plane descends/ascends on its own in response. Incorrect behavior.
How do you determine vRef? The FMC doesn't appear to calculate it.
You're a very good teacher, very easy to follow. I thank you sir! You didn't seem to enter a departure runway on this flight is that critical?
Thanks man!! I’m trying my best haha. No it’s not critical if you are just practicing, but in the real world, (and vatsim) yes it is critical to enter a departure runway, SID, and transition.
how do you get the green diamonds with the waypoints showing on the radar screen the one you zoomed in and out
How do you make the small circles and line in the middle appear where you can see the diamond? The localizer and glide slope pattern
I keep getting the urge to switch over to VR when watching this. haa
watch out you'll never go back
Any chance you can do an update as the FMC in my cockpit does not match the one in your video, I'm assuming that the fmc has changed, I didn't see in your video which arrival you used but it lokked like a mirror image of the one I picked.
Great video, thank you for making it, but I also wanted to ask what should be the throttle throughout the flight? Do you just keep it at 100 until descent and lower it to about 50 or is this completely off
I usually keep it around 60% during cruise then throttle down during descent
Any idea guys why my line is yellow and yours is purple? Nav doesn’t seem to work because of this. Any help much appreciated!
Hey, did u resolve this issue? I am facing the same issue. 🥲 thanks
Thank you very much. I don't know i to setup reverse on cg4. Can you tech me? Thank you
I flew one of these last night for the first time but struggled with setting up the approach, your video clears things up, thank-you! Is there a way that you can manually tune the radio frequencies for nav's on this model?
No problem man glad to help! I would have to check, but possibly yes through the FMC
Very nice video! A small question: What is the speed at touchdown?
Thank you! I would say around 120 knots.
How to you engage the reverse thrust and spoilers for landing?
Please help me. I have a problem whereby when I switch the FMS to LOC1 the plane continues to follow the FMS route when in NAV mode, rather than the runway frequency. It only follows it when I click APPR mode. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong?
In FSX the plane would follow in NAV mode, you didn’t have to set it to APPR mode unless you wanted the glidescope.
Is there anyway to make your mouse over tooltips look like this again? I hate the big massive tooltips that are in game now
Why is it when i land w9th the cj4 and i disengage the AP my jet then randomly speeds up?
for some reason the flight line appears yellow and when i turn on navigation it follows an invisible path and not the glide slope. any fixes?
For some reason it won't let me land at the same airport I take off from is this a patch or am I doing something wrong ?
hi, im sure that im doing something wrong but i did the exact same route as yours but it doesnt follow the circut any suggestions would be appreciated
this aircraft does have any Auto throttle ?
When i took off the glideslope thingy on my horizon didnt show up
Can I set up the ILS in the world map
So when you turn on appr mode it will automatically take Control of the altitude?
A very good video! Have subscribed! How can i reverse the engines? I found nothing on the CJ4?
Thank you! The CJ4 actually has no reversers!
@@captainhorn23 Ah so i can search forever lol
mine wont go activate when i press route at around 3min 44 secs , ive followed to a tee , any ideas please
I was following the toutorial but as soon as I had to key in or press buttons on the FMC nothing happens, I cant figure out why the buttons don't work.
Hi!!! Excellent video. However quick question, when i click activate the route does not turn purple. Why does that happen?
Hey, did u resolve this issue? I am facing the same issue. 🥲 thanks
How to program this when you already flying?
I would like to start off by saying great video, what I am about to say is not a critique on you but rather the sim itself. I am not familiar with the simulator logic in this aircraft on fs2020, I know some things are weird and not properly modeled. But in real life you would not actually switch over to LOC using the nav button. If you arm the approach while still in FMS mode, the navigation source will automatically switch over to LOC. You do not want to switch beforehand because that will do nothing but confuse the autopilot as it will no longer be flying towards whatever IAF you were cleared to, and the nav source will just be the localizer and capturing it wherever it can. The exception to this of course is if you are on vectors (which to be fair you usually will be in the real world) then you can switch the nav source to the localizer, but in that case you should be on heading mode on the autopilot with the approach armed instead of nav mode. Granted I’m not too sure if the sim allows you to arm other modes like it does in real life. All my experience has been in a full motion class D hawker 900xp sim and I just recently finished that course and started flying this in FS2020 after my course ended to satisfy my craving for turbine operations. I have to say I am slightly disappointed in some of the functionality of the aircraft (normally when flying a SID I would select heading mode but have the NAV mode armed on standby as a lot of SIDS call for a climb on a specific heading before following the nav sources and this decreases pilots workload by automatically switching from heading to nav at the proper time, however this does not appear to be modeled in fs2020 or I am doing something wrong) the fmc is missing a lot of features and does not seem to function properly, for example after loading an approach while in the air, that approach did not appear in my legs page and I could not select direct to certain fixes. This is similar to my disappointment with the G1000 as it does not seem to function properly adding in tons of user waypoints and curved lines that should not exist and make flying approaches a nightmare imo. Overall I enjoyed the video and found it a very good tutorial for how to utilize this simplified version of an FMC and to teach someone who has no experience with FMC’s how to use it for approaches. My only complaint is with FS2020 itself and the somewhat baffling (in my opinion) omissions of functionality as someone who has operated with fully functioning fmc’s and autopilots in much older aircraft.
Hello! Thanks for the video, at 8:10 near the Speed indicator there is a pink bar going up, do you know what it is and what is the function? Thanks
Hey man! Thanks for you kind words! Do you mean the pink line/bar that is very small that moves up with the speed?
@@captainhorn23 yes, thats it, one that goes up and down
why my citation cj4 MFS not same as yours? hehe
Sky vector only works for U.S?
which key to press to reverse engines?
I was wondering what happened to that LOC button ...lol
Ive been just hitting APP button while in FMC constantly and getting decent ILS landings. I guess this sim is more forgiving than the real thing.
ill put it another way i dont have a cross anywhere on my display all ive got is one green line
I was just going to ask for a ifr Tutorial on the jet
Haha I don’t read minds I promise! 😂 I will be doing an ILS on the Cessna Logitude here soon as well!
Are you using a mod? ARR/DEP Index doesn't work like you say in my latest patch as of Feb 20, 2021. I enter KFCM for both DEP and ARR, and I don't get the option to Set my approach until AFTER I select a SID AND Departure runway... hit activate ... then I can go back to ARR/DEP index button and I can now see the ARR and select my ILS runway. Maybe this is a patch and they changed the FMC functions since you published your video.
You do it in one step, but now it's 2 steps. Activate the Dep, and then activate the arrival.
I am not using a mod. I would have to check about the update! It is very possible they changed some things around with this plane.
I guess vnav must be buggy, since it never lowers my altitude as it does with you.
Great video, how do I enable the reverse thrusters?
Im pretty sure this plane doesn't include reverse thrusters.
Thanks! The CJ4 does not have reversers anymore
Thanks for all the tutorials! Buying MFS tmr! By the way, how will you be doing the giveaway, i truly want a chance to win! Thanks for the generosity captain horn!
No problem man! I love doing the tutorials for everyone! I am not sure how I will do the giveaway. I will have to think of something. It will be during a live stream though. Thanks for being a supporter of the channel my man!!!❤️
CaptainHorn23: Well thats too bad because usually your streams are during my bedtime and I am not an adult so I cant sleep late or wake up early. I am just a kid who really aspires to be a pilot. Perhaps there is another way?
Yeah man don’t worry. I’m thinking of other ways to have plenty of people involved. Surprisingly, a lot of my views are all over the world! I’ll come up with something, don’t worry!
This is a really helpful video. I'm having an issue with this plane where I'm being lined up about 10 feet or so to the right of the runway on my approach. I'm doing everything in the video. Hitting the NAV button so it follows the GPS, on approach switching to the Nav1 frequency, hitting the APPR button when centered with the glideslope. But it seems like every airport I fly into I'm not lined up in the center of the runway so if I don't take the AP off at the end and hand fly it in while turning it slightly to the left, I would land on the grass next to the runway.
Does anyone have any tips or know why this is happening? FWIW I play on the Xbox. Thanks
You want to make sure it’s following the localizer not the gps when you’re on the approach. Make sure that the active nav mode on the PFD says LOC not FMS.
Followed to setup procedure step by step. Did not get the purple line , instead got a yellow one that did not look like the same route. Not sure where i went wrong. Any help would be appreciated
Same thing happened to me.
There’s an option to make your own flight plan before flying, and there’s an option to land on an ILS Runway and have an approach to it. If I have already set that up, do I still need to follow along setting up the ILS departure and arrival from the video?
Yes, I believe you will still need to setup the approach and landing like I showed in the video. Try it out though, I'm not 100% :)
Nice video but after several tries my autopilot wants to go around in a circle then fly away from my flight plan. Good practice I guess.
The navigation line didn't turn purple when I was setting up the ils during a free flight with out a destination. It only worked if is set it up with a destination from the main menu. Is there a way to set up another flight manually in the game after landing or do you have to restart the flight?
I’ve got the same problem
@@divinestag7878 I got it to start working I just missed a step And I am able to even change my IlS during mid flight Just have to make sure you double check everything and make sure you hit the execute button after typing in the info for the flight destination and landing runway And also make sure you're now frequencies are correct Say you want to land at LAX you type in K LAX in Google you will find the sheet and you can double check your frequency Just be sure to select your runway And hit the execute button and you should be good Took me a couple tries to figure out what step I was missing but it's been a while
I have no activate Navigraph cannot set anything saddy.
Why is my auto pilot talking me on a whole different route then my ifs? Any help? It’s just doing like straight lines to the airport and the ap won’t pick up the purple lines
Hey, did u resolve this issue? I am facing the same issue. 🥲 thanks
I'm still trying to install MFS 2020
Why does your CJ4 look nothing like mine
Thanks but For me, when I activate the route with the fmc, it is not purple in my gps, and the autopilot is not following the line... I have no Idea on how to fix that
Did you resolve this issue? I am having the same issue. 😢 thanks
why is my market place grayed out?
Hey just a quick question when I activate the flight plan the lines on the map are white instead of pink and the autopilot freaks out clearly I’m doing something wrong
Hey, did you resolve this issue? I am facing the same. Thanks 😢
@@luisneto120hey! I have not solved the issue.
When I go to DEP/ARR I do not get these options. All I get is
It doesn't work for me either... I do have the same option as you, I simply don't have my arrival for some... odd reasons. Although I re-did it at least 10 times haha.
nothing ever works for me. i followed the instructions exactly and when i click on dep arr it only show
I had the same problem. It seems it doesnt like departing and arriving at the same airport. If you take off from a different airport it works. So best to try a flight plan between two close by airports. Maybe something like london city to london heathrow.
