My financial goals are to fully fund my FHSA again this year ($8K), start back up my monthly TFSA contributions, and I want to work towards my Financial Planner designation which will help me grow in my career. Excited for you Zoe, you got this!

HSA or FSA? FSA doesn't rollover year to year last time I checked. HSA does rollover each year. Just double checking with you so you're not wasting money in a FSA, unless you intend to use it before 2025.

I have a car, Christmas, and personal care sinking fund! I use my car fund for things like oil changes/repairs if I need to, but the long-term goal is for a down payment towards my next car. It's crazy how it's accumulated, I've got $3,000 in there right now. My Christmas fund I actually use for anything from Thanksgiving to New Years. Any food I need, holiday stuff with friends, my Christmas tree (I get a real one), etc. I'm a teacher so I even budget "fun" money for my break within that sinking fund. I don't put as much in my personal care fund as the others, but I use that for things like haircuts, any extra skincare products or items that I don't regularly buy like shampoo etc. I probably could cash flow Christmas and my personal care items but it is such a great feeling to get to Christmas and never have to use my regular paychecks. Complete game changer mentally.

My dog tore her acl a few years ago and luckily I had an emergency fund to take care of that but after that happened I decided she needed her own. And as far as the car savings goes I drove an Audi for 12 years and I absolutely loved it but towards the end the maintenance was crazy expensive but luckily I had saved over the 12 year span and was able to buy my next car in cash so keep on keeping on, it’s worth it!!!

Love *all* of this! I am currently reading The Financial Feminist - not sure if it would be helpful for your journey or not since you have obvi mastered a lot of the financial basics; but I’ve been really enjoying it! My goals for this year are to save up 3 months of expenses in my emergency fund, pay off the last credit card balance (0% APR until 2025 so I’m feeling really balanced about that one) & to fund my vacations ahead of time so nothing stays on a credit card! I’d love to see a 100k kickoff! I feel like I’m not ready for something like that yet but I want to learn more 😊

Love the video! Just a quick comment you don’t earn more interest if all of your money is in the same bank account unless your account changes the interest if you hit a certain limit which is rare in the case of $15K. For example if you get 1% of $100 + 1% of $300 that gives $4 total ($1+$3) but if you had it all in one account 1% of $400= $4. So don’t let the earning interest change your account breakdown if it’s easier to keep it all together then go for it

Girl I love that you have a goal to read more because the goals you listed are kind of confusing. Yes, RRSPs reduce taxable income but they still are only just tax deferred. TFSA is in the bigger picture much better of an investment. It's a question of short term vs. long term. Even better do an FHSA so you get the best of both (tax free and reduces taxable income)
As for books: I'd recommend Rich Dad, Poor Dad and the follow-up Cashflow Quadrant. Those are classics you'll see everywhere on finance best-of lists.

You'll earn the same amount of interest whether you have a 10k balance or 10x1k balances across separate accounts, as long as the interest rate is the same. Personally I have 3 different high yield savings accounts at the same bank where I keep my emergency fund, car fund, and travel fund. It's nice to see the numbers separated out AND ser the interest grow.

Great video, just a point, it doesn’t matter if you combine your accounts together as it wouldn’t make you any more interest. If you have 5 HYSA each at 4% interest it will make the same amount as 1 HYSA at 4% interest.

true!! its because with that bank you are only allowed one account at the highest interest 😂🥲

Is your current emergency fund giving more interest with the more money you have or does opening another account cost anything?
I was just curious since having the money seperate at the same interest rate would get you the same amount of interest as lumping it together with the same interest rate (4%).
Obviously, it seems to be an easier for you to lump them based on the other factors you mentioned, so by all means, but figured i'd ask just in case that was overlooked.
Good luck on achieving your goals this year :)

hi!! it's because I can only have one account at the 4% with this institution :( So if I kept them separate the emergency fund would be at 4% and the rest would be lower.

The only personal finance book I think everyone should read:
I Will Teach You to be Rich
I've read a few others but they all say basically the same thing.

Please read I will make you rich by Ramit Sethi. I read it in my 40s and it changed the way I manage my money. There is a US version and UK version 😊

I highly recommend a simple, short easy book that is a Classic: The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley. Very inspiring and it may help your money mindset and keep you on your path : )

Remember that interest accrued is taxed by the CRA, especially with Wealth simple because those accounts are not tax deffered. So at the end of the year, you might not be doing yourself any favors here. Please look at your marginal tax rates and then plan where you want to allocate your savings accounts. There are way better options with your larger sinking funds than a 4% interest rate that is taxed.

You know you’re an adult when you can relate to having a tooth on your budget list lol. Root canal crown is one of mine. So annoying!

I'm missing a tooth as well and got an implant (post+ crown). Getting the grown is critical to keep bone health and your face structure with support of the bone. Dental is so expensive!
Does JP have insurance you can get on?

I gotta get that crown this year haha! The problem is no insurance will cover it as I got the post done before the coverage started (this was the problem when I had insurance through work too) 🙃
