Mate you are proper. There is one more point which you might wanna consider. The elevation changes add a whole new dynamic to the car setup and driver skill. From my personal experience on a track l, when I was at Laguna Seca the elevation change into blind corner combined with hard braking was pure adrenaline bliss. Cheers and all the very best.
I agree with everything you said. I'd love to see Monaco widened in some way while keeping current profile. It would be amazing with the elevation changes and the overtaking opportunities if it was made wide enough for modern F1 cars. Dare to dream though.
Nice video. A large part of whether or not a track is good in F1 is… the F1 cars themselves. Other racing series have proved that tracks can be great, but terrible for F1 because of the current wide, DRS-reliant, and dirty air cars.
Monza. I've been there twice and loved every second. Even if the fan experience at Monza is horrible with ques everywhere, the weather, the Tifosi, the food and gelato makes up for everything
You only need a couple things for a good track: width, big braking zone which is followed by a sufficiently large straight, some form of slow-medium speed double apex, fast corners leading into a braking zone or straight(could be braking while turning such as bahrain or the suzuka s's) and more so of late less high speed and downforce corners which slows the car behind down due to dirty air. One is good, such as spa which you have to get dead right to be flat out and requires high downforce, but alot of them, such as in qatar means no overtakes. Finally banking if you wish, such as in zandvoort where you have to break deep into the banking and accelerate onto the straight, always good for overtaking inside or making the switch on the straight. Mix any 3 features and you have a great track.
Tldr tilke knew what he was doing. They are all very similar but they are designed to create good racing. Long straight into a wide snail looking section is the best racing we get.
100% agree with everything. I hope F1 tries to go back to more circuits instead of street tracks. Of course there's action on most street tracks (Vegas was great) but it doesn't feel like true F1. There isn't much that beats F1 at silverstone or Spa, especially with the size and weight of the current gen we need to stick to tracks that actually fit the car.
I'd also add elevation changes to the list of what makes or breaks a track. Elevation changes make it more difficult for drivers to judge breaking zones, which benefits the more daring drivers.
I would add Losail circuit to the list. Maybe not the greatest atmosphere, being in the middle of the desert, but the track ticks every box and the racing is great even without enforced pitstops.
For me the best track is Barcelona. I am biased of course because I live very close to it and my first F1 memory was to see my idol win there, but it is also very fun to drive in the simulator and it brings out the best performance of cars. The racing is average but only because the cars are like tractors, so large.
To me even if the race is almost always boring as hell, there are two things that is entirely part of the Monaco Grand Prix that shouldn't be overlook : quali, and strategy. Watching quali in Monaco with every car scratching the edges and trying to gain half a tenth to each other is something incredible. And then on race day, the strategies used to optimise pace and keep the position is always what guides a loss or a win. Monaco is a great grand prix if you don't look at overtakes as much as the whole weekend strategies
True. I’m just trying to voice what the newer fans seek which is drama. They literally started watching F1 because of DTS. I totally agree with you tho
I think the best way to evaluate the potential of a track is to see how good are the esport races since all the cars are equal and there is little to none dirty air.
That is a great point. But unfortunately it wouldn’t be the reality for the real F1 championship - which is what this video is about. WEC for example doesn’t have anywhere near the issues with overtaking compared to F1 - and because of that the tracks that would produce the best racing in WEC would be different. These features are what F1 needs, not necessarily all racing series
Silverstone is IMO the greatest. The Maggots-Becketts complex are the only real part of the circuit where there's only one line, but they're such spectacular corners that it doesn't really matter that much. Cars can take different lines and race side by side through pretty much every other corner, and it's common for an overtake to be setup half a lap in advance of where it's completed. Interlagos is a close second. Spa and Monza are beautiful and iconic circuits, but they actually produce a lot of dull races. COTA does have a habit of producing good races, but the fact that it is a bit of a copy/paste job just takes something away from it for me. Honourable mentions: Bahrain is an excellent circuit. Turkey needs to be brought back to the calendar.
the thing is tho with tracks like spa, they really have to keep the balance between exciting vs dangerous racing, especially when there are f2/3 races going on too
I'd argue we also need some better on track cameras. In addition to the racing not being close, the cars look really slow on screen sometimes, especially when they going through shots of the same corners and straights each lap. They need to mix up the live editing more. More of the trackside cameras on the ground, and more onboard camera shots. The majority of F1 viewership is at home so it should look more exciting for the viewers who can't make it all the way out to a gp
They look slow cos they are slow lmao. They are so heavy and cumbersome in the medium and slow speed corners now. The cameras are doing their best with all the zoom trickery etc but even they cant hide how slow they were going through sector 1.
@@jakemorganGP i didn't realize that. I'm a newer fan so I've only ever watched live races with the Turbo hybrid cars. When I watch clips of the older racers and inboard poles they seem so much faster and now I know why.
Great video. Totally agree as well on amentities. F1 is a professional sports league, and professional sports are entertainment. If the fan experience is terrible, why bother going?
Wothout the fans the sport doesnt exist right 🤷🏻♂️. They need to give us priority over the teams because we fund their racing through one way or another
Believe it or not, I've been working for weeks on a track on Blender with all of these features. I hope to finish it in 3-4 months as it's my very first project in Blender and I need to learn the software.
Montreal is ok - not fantastic for wheel-to-wheel racing if we look back at it - buttttt the weather does add something to it which makes the races more interesting than a Monaco or Singapore
I'm still sad that Hanoi didn't make it. It looked like a near-perfect track. It would fit (almost) all your points (the off-track maybe not, but we can't say for certain as there haven'r been any races)
It’s missing the elevation changes. If it could get a banked corner it would be up there with Jeddah imo. They are incredibly similar in design and layout
Some points i would disagree. 1 Interlagos is quite narrow circuit with only some sections in S3 being wide. What works for it is the short layout with not many fast corners to generate dirty air. Spa has not produced many great races in past decade tbh. Those fast flowing corners are nice in hotlaps, but are abosolute killers of close racing. What makes or breakes the racing is cars. Even if we have only these "great tracks" if the cars are shit, so will be racing. Ofc track configuration helps. Fun comparison i have is GTWC at Paul Ricard. that 3hr race has more action in it than all F1 races at PR combined. The GT3's can make the track work where F1 couldnt. Dare i say is we had PR on calendar in early 2010's it would give us better racing.
Fair points made. I would tend to agree but I trusted the fan’s average votes over the lifespan of the grands prix. Those were in the top 10 fan favs on average. But you’re right too
@@jakemorganGP fan votes are interesting thing. From what I gather simracing and following the real world of racing you can't really have an objective way of determining what makes a good track. Altho it's really easy to see what are bad designs for racing as usualy they are also bad for hotlaps IE old Barcelona chicane. But then you have Nordschleife what on paper shouldn't be fun track but it is.
@MrTheracer256 I partially agree. I do think that you can objectively look at what tracks are going to be better than others, but because there are so many different factors that make a Grand Prix crazy or not it’s very hard to say 100% yes or no because it’s more than just the track features which make a Grand Prix good. That being said, you made a great point about the Norge life, it depends what you’re looking at for a good Grand Prix. I’m assuming that the fans were looking at purely drama on track which is why those tracks often get higher voting than Suzuka. For example.
Still the cars are a big part for why racing in many tracks of the calendar look bad im not talking about performancewise its about being raceable which the new cars are not because they are bigger and heavier then ever, making the defense easier and the racecraft of driver less important. They should make them nimble and small which helps racing at everything and then once you have good foundations with the car then think about circuits and everything else.
Aside from COTA all of the top tracks have 1 thing in common. They aren't Tilkedromes The best tracks are the ones built to suit the area naturally rather than being made artificially. While COTA is unique in that it copies successful tracks. Another point is the current cars are far too wide, meaning that tracks that are narrower are that much harder to race on.
Hi @jakemorganGP great video! I know it's a Grade 2 circuit and not on the Calendar, but what do you think of the layout of the Kyalami Circuit in South Africa?
I think a series isn’t a world championship if it isn’t racing on every continent (apart from the obvious i.e. Antarctica). We desperately need a race in Africa and India. Hopefully we can get Kyalami and Buddh back on the calendar soon instead of tracks like Miami
I am surprised you did not include elevation on the list because it makes the track more challenging and demands more technical skills to defend or attack a position. Great anyways
Decent video. good quality. I'm just waiting for it to get blocked and you get a strike from Liberty Media for using their footage. This is why you see all big F1 UA-camrs use only footage that teams filmed themselves. Like footage from pre season test days at silverstone or something. And interviews not done at an official F1 event.
Thanks mate. It should come under fair use but i see your point. No bans yet lol Also, F1 has become much more lenient compared to other sports like MotoGP (Dorna) who hate clips being online. Aldas uses quite a lot of B-roll as well. Defo something I’ve thought about. We shall see how it all plays out :)
For me what makes a good race is unpredictability look at 2023 zandavort in a year of boring races zandavorts weather made the race super unpredictable and entertaining. And then at singapore verstappen struggled and a late unexpected crash late in the race gave us extremely close racing until the finish. If a race starts and everyone goes into management mode with little racing it will be very boring.
Some things that make a good Grand Prix are also the possibility of rain and fan culture. With the new regulations cars might actually be small enough to fit next to each other and some tracks could be good again. This brings me to the following list: Great Tracks with Grade 1 certification: Mugello, Imola, Monza, Portimao, Spa, Mexico, São Paulo, Magny-Cours, Montreal, Austin, Hockenheim, Nürburgring, Turkey, Red Bull Ring, Silverstone, Melbourne, Tracks that have some downsides but are still good because of the overall experience: Suzuka, Barcelona, Hungaroring, Korea, Sakhir, Zandvoort, Jeddah, Shanghai So please Liberty Media we have plenty of great tracks, there is no reason to pull some random American or Middle Eastern street circuit out of your asses
Literally this. Thing is, with the survival cell and crash structures being as big and wide as they are now - I don’t think making cars smaller per se is the priority. Lighter definitely. But we’ll see
@@jakemorganGP that's really sad, these giant f1 cars have such a big turning radius that it's physically impossible for 2 cars to go side by side through some corners, especially on street circuits. That means they can only do the boring overtakes on the DRS straights
No Suzuka mentioned? Haven't followed F1 in a decades but I always remember the Suzuka grand prix to be among the most exiting ones to watch, on par with Interlagos.
On paper , Canada shouldn't be a great circuit, but it usually produces some of the best races of the year. I think the key to a good circuit is having a fast flowing first corner like Silverstone, Suzuka, Interlagos, etc. Bad boring circuits like Azerbaijan, Hungaroring, melbourne, A1 Ring, have too many slow 90 degree corners.

Absolutely Beautifuly made. Absolutely huge huge Production Quality for your size! I am always exited to see new quality F1 UA-camrs, Keep it up!
Thanks bro. Appreciate it :)
Anything you’d like to see me do a video on in the future?
@@jakemorganGP A 10K Subscriber Special sooner than later. Would be cool to see you there at some point ;)
No but really, i would love to see a few videos that are all about fitting F1 News where you explain the situation. Maybe bring a few new things into this space :D I would like to give you ideas but i'm a bit "Clueless" myself so yeah.
Did you see the joke? my name is Clueless.
@CluelessMapping 🤣 loved the pun mate. Fair enough. Tbh, F1 news videos always do better on the channel but I want to be careful with that because it can really affect how well other content does. Definitely will be doing more news headlines in the future when some key themes come out from the F1 paddock but ideally topics that play out over the season. Thanks for the feedback, I’ll add it to my list 🫡
As for the 10k sub special - I’ll defo have something big planned for that one for sure. Hopefully we get there one day 😄

This Chanel is underrated, Such a good video Keep up!❤
Thanks bro. New video out at midday 😉
Wow I was very surprised when I saw you had less than 1k subs, your content is very high quality
Thanks mate. Appreciate you saying that. Hoping I can hit the ground running with the channel
how the hell you have only 650 subs😂, great quality video, deserves atleast 200 000 plus👏
Ahh. Great to hear you feel that way. Maybe one day we’ll get there :)
Honestly was surprised to see the view count. Amazing quality. See you in a year from now, probably more than 100K subs. Keep pushing content champ 🏆
Thanks king. We keeping on going for sure 💪🏼😮💨
Really good Video Buddy I was enjoying watching it. Keep up the great work!
Thanks bro 🙏🏼
Not one mention of Austria is crazy. You could’ve added it in almost every category. But still a great video!!!!
It’s a great track. But I was genuinely just playing it safe with the fans highest average voted tracks 🤣
I went to COTA before drive to survive got popular and it was awesome. There was still room to walk around back then
Ahhh amazing. I’d love to go COTA. What year did you go?
Mate you are proper. There is one more point which you might wanna consider. The elevation changes add a whole new dynamic to the car setup and driver skill. From my personal experience on a track l, when I was at Laguna Seca the elevation change into blind corner combined with hard braking was pure adrenaline bliss. Cheers and all the very best.
Haha thanks mate.
100%, elevation changes and banked corners make the corners exciting. Three is just a nicer number of track features 😂.
@@jakemorganGP haha fair enough.
I agree with everything you said. I'd love to see Monaco widened in some way while keeping current profile. It would be amazing with the elevation changes and the overtaking opportunities if it was made wide enough for modern F1 cars. Dare to dream though.
Mate you literally deserve ur current subcount x1000, great video 👍
Haha. Thanks mate. One day we’ll get there I hope 😄
Yo dude loved the video, think the point you made were 100% true. Keep up the grind and it will only be a matter of weeks before you hit the 1k mark.
Thanks brother. Means a lot. We keeping on grinding 😮💨
@@jakemorganGP no worries mate didn’t you have 500 subs last night? Cuz your already on 600 rn
@toes3614 lol yup. The algorithm likes me this week. Makes a change 🤣

Super underrated UA-camr. You'll hit 1M in no time....
Kept my interest, editing on point (I hate editing T-T).
Good vid, and I enjoyed the recent one on WEC. For tracks, Japan is hard to better. Maybe not wide, but it has the rest.
Thanks 🙏🏼
Japan is a great track to drive tbf
Nice video. A large part of whether or not a track is good in F1 is… the F1 cars themselves. Other racing series have proved that tracks can be great, but terrible for F1 because of the current wide, DRS-reliant, and dirty air cars.
A point I did make at the end of the video tbf. But we’re ignoring that to an extent to focus on just one part of the equation
Monza. I've been there twice and loved every second. Even if the fan experience at Monza is horrible with ques everywhere, the weather, the Tifosi, the food and gelato makes up for everything
You only need a couple things for a good track:
width, big braking zone which is followed by a sufficiently large straight, some form of slow-medium speed double apex, fast corners leading into a braking zone or straight(could be braking while turning such as bahrain or the suzuka s's) and more so of late less high speed and downforce corners which slows the car behind down due to dirty air.
I think tilke had the right idea but executed it not quite right a la Abu Dhabi 😅
Great point
Damn, Jake! You’re cooking with this one.
Haha. The Yt algorithm seems to like me now for whatever reason. My last 8 videos have all been the same style, I honestly dont get it 🤣
Bruncle jake shares his wisdom.
Yup ✅
They need to bring back some old great tracks like Sepang and hockingheim. Great video though, deserves the subs
FOR THE LIFE OF ME, BRING BACK MALAYSIA F1!!! 😫
Gained a new subscriber. This video was great! Can’t believe you only have 500 subs. Keep it up!
Haha thanks mate. Working hard to make this full time asap lol
Commenting for the algorithm, great vid btw
Hehe. My guy knows 😉 thanks mate 🙏🏼
I would add Losail circuit to the list. Maybe not the greatest atmosphere, being in the middle of the desert, but the track ticks every box and the racing is great even without enforced pitstops.
I love the Qatar track. Really great fun to drive. But it does feel like it’s in the middle of nowhere
if hockenheim was to make a return to the calendar, it would absolutely be a fan favourite once again
Make it happen
For me the best track is Barcelona. I am biased of course because I live very close to it and my first F1 memory was to see my idol win there, but it is also very fun to drive in the simulator and it brings out the best performance of cars. The racing is average but only because the cars are like tractors, so large.
Nice videos man! Keep up the good work and your channel is going to the moon! I'll be watching :) Greetings from Cape Town
Thanks bru! Love SA - 5 of my close friends are from there! Thanks for the positivity - I’ve got big plans but I just hope the channel takes off 😅
This quility or however you spell its i crazy stuff
Haha thanks mate :)
I've subbed, your content is great. You NEED more subs
Thanks mate. Appreciate you saying that. Hope we can get there 🙌🏼
I think the best way to evaluate the potential of a track is to see how good are the esport races since all the cars are equal and there is little to none dirty air.
Great video, cool accent, interesting topic. Keep it up!
Haha. Thanks mate. Never been told I have a cool accent before… I take it you’re not from the UK? 😄
1. Multiple lines possible
2. Heavy braking zones.
3. High speed corners
4. Off track events
the thing is tho with tracks like spa, they really have to keep the balance between exciting vs dangerous racing, especially when there are f2/3 races going on too
Very true. But that’s the jeopardy and excitement that F1 wants/needs to keep fans
To be honest I would love to go to Watkins Glen or Muggelo (think that’s how you spell it) for a year, would give some class races imo
Yeah Mugello would be wicked. MotoGP into turn 1 is wild tho
my favourite track is hungaroring because i live few kilometers away from it
I wanna go so bad. Such a great price for decent races. Maybe this year or next
They need to give us priority over the teams because we fund their racing through one way or another
Old hockenheimring was nice... but i also like the new Hockenheimring.
First corner of new hockenheim is my fav corner of the whole calendar
Elevation and banking also makes for fun.
Fun 100% but idk if it improves wheel-to-wheel racing. In theory is should but F1 seems to defy all racing logic 😂. What do you think?
F1 needs monaco, there is always a special aura. Always happens something special. Also monaco qualys are the best
It’s got heritage - but the racing is so darn bad
Believe it or not, I've been working for weeks on a track on Blender with all of these features. I hope to finish it in 3-4 months as it's my very first project in Blender and I need to learn the software.
Send it over when you’re done mate! Business email is on my channel info!
Las Vegas was waaay better than i expected tbh, off and on track. only problem is price lol
100%. But it’s a sample set of 1 and the super low grip played a massive influence. Let’s give it another couple years before we say yay or nay
I love the video, and 100 percent agrees!!! But how about Montreal?
Montreal is ok - not fantastic for wheel-to-wheel racing if we look back at it - buttttt the weather does add something to it which makes the races more interesting than a Monaco or Singapore
@@jakemorganGP Thank you!!!!!😇

But don’t forget me pls
Haha. Mate I hope I’ll be there in 5 months too! I wont forget you mate dont worry. I’ll come back to this comment in 5 months and see where we are 😂
@@jakemorganGP ok!
Good Video, but in 3:55 it‘s the Hockenheimring in Germany Not in the US
I know. I mixed up the digital assets by accident 😭. Im dumb lol
i would go to zandvoort cuz it takes 2 minutes to walk there for me
Some points i would disagree.
F1 needs to bring Malaysia back. Great Track with the weather wildcard
My favourite track. So good
Still the cars are a big part for why racing in many tracks of the calendar look bad im not talking about performancewise its about being raceable which the new cars are not because they are bigger and heavier then ever, making the defense easier and the racecraft of driver less important. They should make them nimble and small which helps racing at everything and then once you have good foundations with the car then think about circuits and everything else.
Great point. There’s a racing series which is actually making F1 look bad because of this problem. Next video will be about this 😉
i think f1 should bring back tracks like mugello, nurbringring, hockenheim, istanbul and replace tracks like miami or spain
100%. Would love Istanbul back again
Aside from COTA all of the top tracks have 1 thing in common. They aren't Tilkedromes
The best tracks are the ones built to suit the area naturally rather than being made artificially. While COTA is unique in that it copies successful tracks.
Another point is the current cars are far too wide, meaning that tracks that are narrower are that much harder to race on.
Great point - we need see how the narrower cars aids wheel-to-wheel racing
Yeah something I didn’t fully consider but definitely can play a role in making a track exciting.
Favourite circuit is Paul Ricard at France
Defo a fun track. Great for open lobbies for obvious reasons… 🤣
No bans yet lol
Also, F1 has become much more lenient compared to other sports like MotoGP (Dorna) who hate clips being online. Aldas uses quite a lot of B-roll as well. Defo something I’ve thought about. We shall see how it all plays out :)
Wide tracks are only needed for the big cars. Reduce the size of the cars and all tracks magically become wider.
Good point. But they are wide for safety reasons and I don’t think we should compromise that for anything
Great point, totally agree
Some things that make a good Grand Prix are also the possibility of rain and fan culture. With the new regulations cars might actually be small enough to fit next to each other and some tracks could be good again. This brings me to the following list:
Great Tracks with Grade 1 certification:
Mugello, Imola, Monza, Portimao, Spa, Mexico, São Paulo, Magny-Cours, Montreal, Austin, Hockenheim, Nürburgring, Turkey, Red Bull Ring, Silverstone, Melbourne,
Tracks that have some downsides but are still good because of the overall experience:
Suzuka, Barcelona, Hungaroring, Korea, Sakhir, Zandvoort, Jeddah, Shanghai
So please Liberty Media we have plenty of great tracks, there is no reason to pull some random American or Middle Eastern street circuit out of your asses
He’s cooking with this one 🔥
Hehe thanks bro 👊🏼
Nice video 💥
Thanks :)
No Suzuka mentioned? Haven't followed F1 in a decades but I always remember the Suzuka grand prix to be among the most exiting ones to watch, on par with Interlagos.
yep. but i wouldn't consider radillon a corner that makes a difference cause even at max fuel loads the whole sequence is full throttle
True. But I know people will get mad if I said the two corners were just Eau Rouge 🤣. Thought I’d cover my back just in case lol
@@jakemorganGP yep the exit you get at La source you carry all the way to the end of the kemmel straight
Monza and Spa don't consistently produce good races, it's the history and crowd that make people love the tracks.
Very true. Hence why it’s fan-voted average is so high.
