  • U.S. Marines showcase a Marine Air-Ground Task Force demonstration on Lake Washington at the Boeing Seafair Air Show during Marine Week Seattle. The video shows Marines demonstrating Special Patrol Insertion/Extraction rigging, developed as a means to rapidly insert and/or extract a reconnaissance patrol from an area that does not permit a helicopter to land.
    Marine Week Seattle showcases Marine Corps equipment, aircraft, and technological capabilities to the general public. More than 700 Marines are participating in Marine Week Seattle to give Seattleites the opportunity to meet the individual Marine and celebrate community, country, and Corps

    Guy: "So you get a rope..."
    Barry: "Yeah?"
    Guy: "And attach it to a helicopter..."
    Barry: "No..."
    Guy: "Hear me out here. And then you clip yourself onto the rope"
    Barry: "What? Hell no"
    Guy: "And then you hang from the rope and fly on it"
    Barry: "Have you been drinking again, man?"
    Guy: "Noooo.... What are you talking about?"

    I did this once in the Corps. While I enjoyed it, I didn't see the use of it. I would much rather simply rapel from a helo. It's faster in every way.

    • @jolllyroger1
      @jolllyroger1 6 років тому +6

      Pens Suck is faster dropping off many deliveries.... Drop the rope and go next in drop and go... More being dropped as they are u hooking... Also you can be firing until touchdown..... Rappelling really is slower because you can only have one man on the rope until because pulling below a rappeller will stop the men above.... The large rope slide like a fire pole is fast but not for mass dilivery.... This way is fastest for each helicopter to drop and go..... Plus you can have supplies on the bottom..... I saw this demonstrated I was in army MP"s really wanted to do it too.... I got to do some a lot of other fun stuff like wasting ammo that was expiring... firing laws rockets 90 mm recoiless rifle playing with hand grenades eod training.... For to blow a lot of people sheit up.... Traveled the globe met many girls rappelled of castles skied Switzerland.... The eiger.... kleinesheideg.... Swiss misses.... Man I should have stayed in and been fed well and sowed my seed world wide

      that is mostly for emergency extract. I was marine recon and we did that a lot. it replaced the old jungle penetrator and stabo system. what would suck is when you got a chopper pilot that wanted to get his ticket punched for recon support and he would drag you on lift off. but it's a lot of fun, in training, it sucks when you are in a situation that you really need it to didi mao out of the a.o., cause that means your shit is really weak :))

    • @elroyjetson8883
      @elroyjetson8883 4 роки тому +1

      Nobody would ever insert Marines like this by choice. For one thing, the Marines are about as exposed as a person can be. For another, the helo is exposed because evasive maneuvers are really tough on the guys hanging. For a third, note that the helo isn’t flying very fast. Nobody would do 150 knots with a bunch of guys hanging from a rope (that helo can fly faster than that with the guys inside) because being in a 150 knot wind will tear your clothes off with all the accompanying damage. And I’m sure we can come up with other reasons. So it’s used for extract when the helo can’t or for some reason doesn’t want to land. It’s nobody’s first choice on how to transport Marines.
      Ain’t it great they can do it though? Lot of trust that everyone is doing their job there.

    They like to talk about this on P.I. ...looks like the lanyard systems need serious revamp, way too time consuming to be of much use in most scenarios

      SAND MAN this is by no means the go to, historically its used as a last ditch effort in a bad situations to get boys who NEED to GTFO ASAP, ASAP

      ? this was invented for extraction of Force Recon members doing deep recon. If you're talking about how slow they're going they're probably just making sure everything is good to go since they have the time for it. There's no since in risking anyone's life during a training mission or in this case an airshow
