      I suppose MARSOC Raider is a term so new, no one thinks about them when they say SEALs or Green Berets. When I was in during the 80s, 2D ANGLICO was massively under-rated and we shared the riggers station with 2D Force. Everyone knew who Force Recon was, but you'd say ANGLICO and they thought you were talking about fishing. We always knew we could pull off anything SEALs could. Now, I guess we have proof....and the resources. Used to joke that ANGLICO was so secret you never heard of us. Hope Raiders keep a low profile like the guy in the video stated.

      What unit? You are comparing apples and oranges. Each unit is designed specifically for a certain role in which they will operate in. If you are comparing these guys vs a conventional unit such as a line infantry company vs a MARSOC team, then the line unit would win. Need to be specific when saying what you are saying.

  • @viresaccipithonoratus7531
    @viresaccipithonoratus7531 6 років тому +6

    I started my time in the USMC, first as a reservist, while a senior in high-school..yes, I enlisted at 17.
    I went to bootcamp and mos school for 1391, in late 80's, spent my senior year in the reserves, then got FMF orders to OJT, first on a boat team with 2nd Recon, then after 6 months, with Fox Co 2ndBn/2ndMarines, because as a prior support reservist, I had not gone to SOI, MCT, or BRC.
    In order to have stayed Recon, I would've needed either jump or scuba qualified, but without BRC, I didn't meet basic recon requirements to attend, thus the grunt OJT.
    This was shortly after SOCCOM was established to replace the JRDTF, so in that regard, the FMF basically had DivRecon, Force Recon, ANGLICO, SRIG, the STA Sniper Platoons, and FMF FAST Co's, as the Marine Corps more elite considered units.
    Also what the Marine Corps began to transition to, was from the MAU to the MEU, and with the MEU designation, also came training and certification to be SOC designated, which then enables the BLT-MEU/SOC, which still exists today.
    Also, the Raiders, unlike the CSO's with SOCCOM, were established with select infantry companies in the 90's, because my infantry battalion had and still has one such company.
    But, I digress..MARSOC is no easy feat, as is the same for any special operation unit or for the Army, special forces..
    First of all, MARSOC requires no less than three complete active-duty years in your current mos, no njp's in the year prior to A&S, a minimum gt score of 105, a "mimimum" pft score of 225, ability to get a secret clearance, plus a reccomendation from Co C/O..
    Take it from a grunt who had to learn it from the ground-up, without prior SOI or MCT, and even attempted divrecon..aspiring for MARSOC is very admirable, and if you make to the 0372 mos, then congratulations in advance..but honestly, don't get ahead of yourself..

      Thanks for the update on what all went down between my ripping a ligament in 89' to to the creation MARSOC. Yeah, in 2D ANGLICO in the 80s, we knew we were Spec Ops without that specific moniker. Feels good to have been part of the incubus for all this. We'd do room clearing, anti-terror, and all kinds of stuff above and beyond JTAC stuff. But MARSOC looks like its all been taken to a whole new level. It's very impressive!

    My dream career is to become a MARSOC Marine Raider, so wish me luck and for the best.
    A saying that gives me motivation to fight is this:
    *”If you're going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don't even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery--isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you'll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.”*

    This job looks so fun. I've read a lot on MARSOC and I can't figure out how they relate to SEALs and Force Recon. Can anyone tell me what the main difference is like missions they do?

    • @g496r500t
      @g496r500t 8 років тому

      Little difference, MARSOC is growing and taking in a greater diversity of missions. One item to note is just MARSOC is not a "Tier 1" unit, and the USMC doesn't have an element at that level yet. But likely one day.

    • @qwrtyforse6174
      @qwrtyforse6174 8 років тому +4

      +g496r500t I don't think the USMC will ever have a Tier 1 element. It would be redundant, not much for them to do. There are Marines that have served in Delta, we know that for sure. So they can serve in JSOC and operate at that level, but not as a separate unit.

    • @g496r500t
      @g496r500t 8 років тому

      +Qwrty Forse I think you are right. Marines have always functioned at the highest levels, but in small numbers. I have known Marines who served during the infamous "Black Hawk Down" missions and other high profile black-ops. But few people know that about the Marine Corps. Truth be told, if you aren't going to do it better, don't duplicate. They might develop a task-force for "tier 1" type missions but even that is less likely.

    • @qwrtyforse6174
      @qwrtyforse6174 8 років тому

      +g496r500t you're absolutely right about "if you can't do it better don't duplicate it". And let's be honest, no on does it better than Delta and Devgru.

      A lot of the ASVAB is technical skills in addition to core subjects. So if a lot of the common stuff seems abstract try to improve the technical side. I like the technical stuff because it seems more tangible and easier to understand even if you haven't studied it. Other than that all I can tell you is to keep studying.

    • @phljawn
      @phljawn 8 років тому +6

      im not. its not a good idea. now elite marines can be used for illegal missions and answer to the cia. our leaders knew what they were doing when they kept us out of socom. marines should only be used for marine corps missions

    • @whiskey4609
      @whiskey4609 8 років тому

      yea but they were embarrassed when 9/11 kicked off and socom led the push in afghanistan and the Marines had no units under socom to send. although they had some meu over there conventional forces. Hence they gutted the recon bats to stand up marsoc, and still keep force around so the MEF has options

    • @Ghostrider-ms5xt

      Red Jentz every Marine is a rifleman is the biggest joke in the Marine Corps and it’s bullshit. I was a Marine for ten years. I was in instructor at SOI and know first hand this is bullshit and the ONLY reason they say it is because POG ass bitches go through three weeks of infantry training and over 90% of them will NEVER USE IT in their entire career. Now the ONLY exception this is MOS’s like combat engineers, artty, a a ver other select few. You can get all but hurt about it but it is the truth of the matter. Silly POG’s leave it to the infantry.
