It's going to get even better. Gen. Berger has written in his Force 2030 report that we have to look at extending our entry level and advanced infantry training. Rumors are going around that ITB is going to be extended to 6 months, vice 2 months. Exciting times are ahead for sure, and I can't wait to see our Marines get better training for future fights.
This has paid dividend I had a company of logistics and mechanic, when we got attacked in Iraq in 03, they reacted flawlessly. Best training in all of the services. They do an outstanding job at MCT.

Better training and the combat instructors don't treat it like 4th phase boot camp. When I was in ITB there was an MCT CI that would always wear a duty belt and drill his platoon like a DI. Fucking gay
James Brown James Brown MCT is just for POG's... They're not even Riflemen, Grunts, Special Ops. They're just being taught the basics of USMC combat cuz every Marine is a rifleman first, The MOS is just their specialty/everyday job, so even admin and the marching band are trained to kill. I did however see a documentary like this where one of my old SOI instructors went to share his knowledge with an army's ITB. Unfortunately for u guys (and us) whoever the marines sent to help u guys wasn't an SOI instructor and just so happened to be a douche if he was the way u say that is. Which unfortunately we all have em in every branch. Both my old man and my brother is army and my unit trained with delta , green beret and rangers every week so I've got nothing but respect for the army. But another reason I point out the demeanor of CI's acting like DI's with more restraint is because their sole purpose is to teach the worlds fighting force (First to Fight) to kill, not get killed, not get ur team killed and complete the mission no matter what, so they act like hard asses cuz they're successes or failures in how u learn which ultimately could get u killed or save u one day is on their shoulders. That's a heavy burden. And it only gets worse the more "elite" so to speak u get. Being SpecOps myself, training alongside Army specops and Seals plus Marine Raiders, it's nothing like boot, you'll literally get ur ass beat in the tree line if u keep fuckin up. But that's how serious it is. I'd rather beat the shit outta one of my Marines everyday until he's as ready as one can be and have him hate me for life and live than to not care enough to go that far for the sake of his feelings or opinions of me and die. Those are RCOs which mean rifle combat optic. ACOG is a brand name.. The M16 that the Marine corps uses today is the M16A4 Service rifle. The Marine corps does not use the peep sights no more. Only staff Sergent use a M416 carbin.

@@stingraycors_t6455 The RCO is the correct term and about most non infantry MOSs getting M16A4s, but until recently every 0311 were using M4 carbines the automatic rifleman used M27s which replaced the SAW, DMs got M38s and the platoon sergeant and PL also used an M4. The Marine infantry were the first ones to get M27s around 2012, now I believe every infantry marine gets an M27 other than SLs, PLs and Platoon sergeants.
A lot has changed in MCT since I went through in 2003. I'm glad it has but then again it's what Marines do, adapt. Wish I went through it all again, it was some fun and good times!!

In the early 60's boot camp was 12 weeks and then directly to ITR (Infantry Training Regiment) for 5 weeks no matter what your MOS was. 2 years later I reported to Camp Pendelton for Escape and Evasion School prior to leaving for Viet Nam. I was a POG but spent lots of time outside of my MOS. I volunteered for everything I could. I would do it again if they would take me.
I gotta say, I'm unhappy with the current state of MCT. No grenades, no room clearing, hardly any patrolling. I just don't feel like I've been properly trained to hold my own in a combat deployment.
Damn that sucks. I went in 07 and we did all that sht. Some of us actually got to throw more than once, we did a lot more than just room clearing we got to do some simunition stuff clearing villages, when it came to pre deployment workup and us pogs actually had to go into these training environments we knocked it out of the park just as well as the line companies did, for our share of it. I get it though, we aren't in all out war anymore...and yeah, as someone who was also a POG (3043) I understand fully what the Marine Corps budgeting is like...I'm sure money for certain things at this point just isn't there. I heard they are getting rid of weapons company in all infantry units...which is weird to me...but it's budget restraints. USMC is one of the brokest branches and that's truly a shame imo.

MCT for me was 4th phase bootcamp. All of my instructors were POGS and weren't really helpful. They didn't let's us really do anything we were studying. Like adjusting the machine fire when you have to shoot. It was a waste of time.

Back in my day you had Corporals on the drill field and Lcpl's teaching classes at MCT under the watchful eyes of corporals and sergeants of course. I think rank was a lot more respected than than it is now from Marines that I talk to now. However the Marines have always been very good on small unit leadership. It's also my opinion they should let corporals back on the drill field
To be honest I was saying the same thing even though I went in 01. We had all our training in the field and I don't remember lecture halls. It was mostly outside in the woods
Army does have VERY basic weapons/field training and squad movements for non-combat MOSs but marines have a little more extensive training for their MCT course and even more still for their ITB. Actual infantry marines go through ITB
Remember, a POG can easily replace a grunt, but a grunt can never replace a POG. 03's ain't shit but a one trick pony. And even then they suck at it. They need pit love to go qual to qual.

@@_random3906 I had to get on a M240 several times in Iraq in 08, got to use mortars in 09 when we were in Majave viper for pre deployment training, reason is some of us pogs had to help carry shells for a training evolution, and at the same time I got to learn a lot about that weapon system and drop some a couple times, so I actually do know how to use it somehwat, doesn't take rocket science to accurately fire a SMAW bro you know that ...I was a supply guy. I was in 1/2, and had a lot of friends in weapons...I was roommates with 2 snipers in the barracks for like 3 months for some reason lol, I still don't remember why we had to be roommates, but we became friends. I was friends with a lot of infantry guys in my unit...I hooked them up a lot too... tactically acquired some k bars for a couple of my infantry homies. Thing is, I'm a dumbass and truly got tricked into supply by my recruiter...told me SOI was backed up by 6 months...I said I couldn't wait so she gave a list of MOS to pick, told me I could lateral move later which was a lie tbh...I never had an opportunity to even try for Recon as the Marine Corps needed supply people and my leadership wouldn't allow it, only thing they allowed was for me to go to intermediate supply school (yuck) and Corporals course, shit like that, I wanted to try for Recon, when MARSOC started allowing people to drop packets I was about to get out. I picked supply because it's the one mos on the list that had a bonus. So when I got sent to 1/2...and settled in and got used to being in the fleet, I gravited to the Infantry guys, I was the supply guy to be cool to them when they'd come to our shop for working parties etc. When I got out, I actually joined the Army national guard as 11B, it was short lived though only stayed for like a year and a half...but they were surprised that I knew pretty much all of the basics of infantry tactics as I came from the Marine Corps Pog side...well it was because of MCT and my time in an Infantry unit, with 2 deployments and full training workups. Some Pogs forget all that sht and just go to work, some don't...but don't get it twisted we learn basics of infantry...then if we end up in a infantry unit at H&S we get even more training.
Excuse the one, 'why is there female instructors'...Maybe she's an armorist, (ya know, the ones that disassemble and assemble many type weapons, and break them down to a level, no other Marines are allowed to break down) Doesn't mean she's teaching how to GUT A MAN WITH KBAR. Caleb, this is not official Marine Corps philosophy rather it's just based on one Marines experience. Back in the 1960s when I enlisted, the top 10% of each recruit platoon were awarded Private First Class (E-2) on graduation day. The following helped me to achieve that goal. I'm going to make two suggestions to you: 1) Train physically almost every day between now and when you leave for boot camp. Run as far as you can, every other day or so, be sure to include jogging, wind sprints and cross-country endurance tests. Do calisthenics EVERY day. Warm up and stretch those muscles, tendons and ligaments then really hit the exercises hard. Lift weights every other day, alternate "upper body days" with "leg days". 2) Memorize your 11 General Orders BEFORE you leave. They don't have to make sense to you now, just memorize them. MCT for me was 4th phase bootcamp. All of my instructors were POGS and weren't really helpful. They didn't let's us really do anything we were studying. Like adjusting the machine fire when you have to shoot. It was a waste of time.

Most MCT instructors are POGs. The infantry training battalion gets the best combat instructors because it's the primary MOS for them.

Back in my day you had Corporals on the drill field and Lcpl's teaching classes at MCT under the watchful eyes of corporals and sergeants of course.
I think rank was a lot more respected than than it is now from Marines that I talk to now. However the Marines have always been very good on small unit leadership. It's also my opinion they should let corporals back on the drill field

Army does have VERY basic weapons/field training and squad movements for non-combat MOSs but marines have a little more extensive training for their MCT course and even more still for their ITB. Actual infantry marines go through ITB

Remember, a POG can easily replace a grunt, but a grunt can never replace a POG. 03's ain't shit but a one trick pony. And even then they suck at it. They need pit love to go qual to qual.
0300s are like 12% of the Corps. I'd like to see a POG operate a mortar, SMAW, or even an M240 Bravo and replace weapons platoon Marines.

@@_random3906 I had to get on a M240 several times in Iraq in 08, got to use mortars in 09 when we were in Majave viper for pre deployment training, reason is some of us pogs had to help carry shells for a training evolution, and at the same time I got to learn a lot about that weapon system and drop some a couple times, so I actually do know how to use it somehwat, doesn't take rocket science to accurately fire a SMAW bro you know that ...I was a supply guy. I was in 1/2, and had a lot of friends in weapons...I was roommates with 2 snipers in the barracks for like 3 months for some reason lol, I still don't remember why we had to be roommates, but we became friends. I was friends with a lot of infantry guys in my unit...I hooked them up a lot too... tactically acquired some k bars for a couple of my infantry homies. Thing is, I'm a dumbass and truly got tricked into supply by my recruiter...told me SOI was backed up by 6 months...I said I couldn't wait so she gave a list of MOS to pick, told me I could lateral move later which was a lie tbh...I never had an opportunity to even try for Recon as the Marine Corps needed supply people and my leadership wouldn't allow it, only thing they allowed was for me to go to intermediate supply school (yuck) and Corporals course, shit like that, I wanted to try for Recon, when MARSOC started allowing people to drop packets I was about to get out. I picked supply because it's the one mos on the list that had a bonus. So when I got sent to 1/2...and settled in and got used to being in the fleet, I gravited to the Infantry guys, I was the supply guy to be cool to them when they'd come to our shop for working parties etc. When I got out, I actually joined the Army national guard as 11B, it was short lived though only stayed for like a year and a half...but they were surprised that I knew pretty much all of the basics of infantry tactics as I came from the Marine Corps Pog side...well it was because of MCT and my time in an Infantry unit, with 2 deployments and full training workups. Some Pogs forget all that sht and just go to work, some don't...but don't get it twisted we learn basics of infantry...then if we end up in a infantry unit at H&S we get even more training.
Excuse the one, 'why is there female instructors'...Maybe she's an armorist, (ya know, the ones that disassemble and assemble many type weapons, and break them down to a level, no other Marines are allowed to break down) Doesn't mean she's teaching how to GUT A MAN WITH KBAR. Caleb, this is not official Marine Corps philosophy rather it's just based on one Marines experience. Back in the 1960s when I enlisted, the top 10% of each recruit platoon were awarded Private First Class (E-2) on graduation day. The following helped me to achieve that goal.
I'm going to make two suggestions to you:
1) Train physically almost every day between now and when you leave for boot camp. Run as far as you can, every other day or so, be sure to include jogging, wind sprints and cross-country endurance tests. Do calisthenics EVERY day. Warm up and stretch those muscles, tendons and ligaments then really hit the exercises hard. Lift weights every other day, alternate "upper body days" with "leg days".
2) Memorize your 11 General Orders BEFORE you leave. They don't have to make sense to you now, just memorize them. I will leave you a link to them:

If you do these two things, you will be miles ahead of the rest of your recruit platoon. Hope this helps you. Never Give Up! The day you receive your EG&A, all of your sacrifices will have been worth it!
