Not even being a homer.. this is arguably the best song and version by any band of all time. The lyrics, tempo, structure, cohesiveness, emotion, songwriting, and passion… fuck me. This is it. This is music. Art. Bravo, Dave Matthews Band.
Having had some friends that ended their lives, it brought tears to my eyes when he belted out "Why did you not just talk to me?!" Such a beautiful song and performance.
Easily the best version of this song... I hope he actually records this and he uses these lyrics. I love how he sings in the perspective of his sister’s husband despite the tragedy. Easily my favorite song
Tallarico Out of curiosity, when did Dave tell the story? Can you point me to it? I assuming hello again is also about his sister but he's never said that. So I cant be certain. But I see a lot of people here commenting like they have heard Dave tell the story. Which is fine. I just feel out of the loop
This is a great rendition of Shotgun, without question; however, check out THIS version...AMAZING AND EMOTIONAL!!! Take care, ua-cam.com/video/fznnZ63NppY/v-deo.html
This song…the Hershey performance…it’s my absolute favourite live execution of a seriously passionate and personal experience and next to “don’t drink the water” it has an impact like no other for me. Wish he had it recorded and on Spotify. It kills me and fills me up all at once. Something primal…cathartic and beyond words 🙏🏼🦋
Another beautifully wretched story. I've seen this song played a few times and there is nothing more chilling than hearing Dave tell the story of his sister. Much the same feeling you get when he plays The Stone.
I’ve seen this song live twice and was really close once and he seems to loose his shit singing this song and it’s hard to top, and that’s with consideration of the loads of dark or sad songs in their catalogue
It’s really incredible to be able to find these videos after being a fan for so long. Certain versions just strike that right chord. This wasn’t the first and I take it this won’t be my last.
Best version...I wish they’d come back to Hershey!! Funny story about the last time they were there (2016 I think)… Dave was by himself riding his bike out in the country during the day before the Hershey show. He got a flat tire and didn’t have his phone or anything w/ him. 2 fans on the way to the show saw him alongside the road and were like wtf? Was that Dave?! They gave him a ride to the show. Dave was so gracious, he let them come backstage for the whole show, eat dinner with everyone, etc. Could you imagine driving to the show and seeing Dave with a flat tire like that thinking… Oh shit it’s Dave let’s help him!!! Lucky fans and lucky Dave 👍
@@aeb4690 that’s awesome. I live right near there and didn’t get to see them all the yrs they came to Hershey…..ughhh. I still haven’t seen them live. I grew up listening to them and it’s on my bucket list but I missed so so many great years that I could’ve seen them (1995-present). Leroi, Boyd….missed them live 🤦 smh it’s unacceptable. Obviously times have gotten weird and I assume I missed my chance. I’ll still see them if possible though👍
@@greeenpro2009 times aren't weird. Grab some tix and check them out. So many shows in the northeast to choose from. Treat yourself to a show at Bethel next summer. My favorite venue. Get on it!!!
Such a hauntingly beautiful song. If I ever get the chance to see this live I don't think I will even be able to dance because of how transfixed I will be.
As someone who saw them at the Floodzone in Richmond VA. I often dream that they would do a studio album full of special gems like this, help myself and other songs that are the hidden great ones.
Ah Dave and friends, to all ya all, just love ya all. Since 1992 I've been with you guys through everything, and through everything, you've been with me. Challenged my courage, leveled up my love, seen me through the tears, gave me the music to groove and dance so many of the nights away, taken me through the emotional tides that time always brings. I just love ya all.
Always read this song from a suicide perspective and it burned into me that way until I realized it was about his sister and it hurts a lot more now seeing the pain from that perspective..
Incredible folk rock vocalist your song repertoire heartwarming. On a different note, Victor Hugo playwright historic home Hauteville. The Victrola and Gramaphone inventor Emile Berliner pioneer in early sound recordings and phonograph prototypes. Cheers a Haig Scotch toast David Beckham signature libation.
Sadly I've come to the conclusion that quite a lot of the live releases over the years have had some kind of vox processing done in post. 2:39 is a massive giveaway of a tuning snap, and its blatant on recordings like D&T Radio City, Trax 19 and some more recent ones too. It breaks my heart that that is the case because I want to love seeing them live, but it hurts to hear my favourite songs sung below the level they could be at. 2006-2012 are my favourite Dave years in terms of his voice, but it turns out its just because a lot of the vocals are edited in post
Man. DMB has been around for almost 30 years now. Dave and company are so spoiled having worked with the absolute GOD that is Carter Beauford for that long. Spoiled rotten! I know it's not how it went, but I'd like to think that this is how it went way back when the band was forming: "Hey, I'm going to start a band." - Dave "Well, you should just go ahead and recruit one of the best drummers that has ever lived right out of the gate." - The Universe "Yeah, I think I'll do that..." - Dave
I truly hope the people there that day recognized that they were witnessing the greatest live performance ever given
This a thousand times over.
We did
I was there....and it was.....much like the other 102 shows I've seen live!!! Best Live Band Ever!
Touches me in the heart every single time!
I pray they play it in Camden '24 this year. My deepest cut.....they played it a bunch in 2023.....
Not even being a homer.. this is arguably the best song and version by any band of all time. The lyrics, tempo, structure, cohesiveness, emotion, songwriting, and passion… fuck me. This is it. This is music. Art. Bravo, Dave Matthews Band.
One of the best songs they've ever written.
Having had some friends that ended their lives, it brought tears to my eyes when he belted out "Why did you not just talk to me?!" Such a beautiful song and performance.
My brother…😢
This version made me cry!! Holy shit!!!
All-time. Top 5 DMB. No question.
This song will crush you in a completely unique way if you know what he's singing about, wow.. What a flawless performance and song.
I really want to know now.. It already gave me goosebumps
Cesar Harretche his sister was murdered by her husband.
1st time I saw this, I felt so much emotion.
My heart crys for him every single me. Gets me right in the soul
And then the husband took his own life after murdering his sister
I really love this song, and also love they don't play it often, makes it special... is so sad and also magnificent.
It's still one I'm chasing live... I'm limited to pnw shows tho.. Hopefully, one of these times at the gorge.
"why did you just not talk to me" gets me every time..😢🥺
THIS performance is out of this world. Incredible song. I've listened to this so many times
I’ve always loved how even Stefan has a big ole smile on his face when Dave goes full vocal force for third time in this performance
Ahh to be 20 years old soaked in sweat awaiting the severe thunderstorm in that pit for this show again😭
Easily the best version of this song... I hope he actually records this and he uses these lyrics. I love how he sings in the perspective of his sister’s husband despite the tragedy. Easily my favorite song

@@marc0321 at shows in 2008, 2010 and 2012.
@@marc0321 this is all speculation...he's never said anything about it. Same with the song Sister....its about his sister Jane..not Anne.

I wouldn’t say this is about his sister’s tragedy at all.
This song…the Hershey performance…it’s my absolute favourite live execution of a seriously passionate and personal experience and next to “don’t drink the water” it has an impact like no other for me. Man. This just has the whole world worth of emotion behind it. Carter and Dave with standout performances on this one. Best band ever.
RIP Anne. Love you forever and always DJM!! ❤
His voice is ON in this version. Love this song.
This song just does something and I can't get enough! It hits me deep.
it is mind blowing how good this song is
The look on Stefan's face at the end. The joy that the entire band plays with. Because Carter is always smiling 😃.
This is why I love Dave! He ours his heart and soul into every song. Just seen him in Camden ,NJ in 2022. He and the band are phenomenal.
God Dave's voice.😇🥰
thank you dMb...stopped me from ending it this way...#dmbfamily
+JC Bianco same here if it's what im thinking it is. yes thank you DMB!!! #1
+Bobby Bruno thanks brother...hope all is well to ya'll...#dmbfamily
hope youre doing well JC
best performance of the song i've seen yet.
My all time favorite DMB song right here. Thank you!
Wow. I’ve never been so captivated by a single performance of one of their songs. This video is also incredible footage.
Another beautifully wretched story. I've seen this song played a few times and there is nothing more chilling than hearing Dave tell the story of his sister. Much the same feeling you get when he plays The Stone.
What's that story?
Pablo Verdaguer dave has never told the story. People are assuming.
I’ve seen this song live twice and was really close once and he seems to loose his shit singing this song and it’s hard to top, and that’s with consideration of the loads of dark or sad songs in their catalogue
This is not about his sister...
Damn. Let it all out Dave.
beautiful tune, Dave pours it all out here. as usual, Carter is at his best... true artistry!
Carter was absolutely incredible in this version.
Hands down the best version of this song. Gives me chills like when I was there!
It’s really incredible to be able to find these videos after being a fan for so long. Certain versions just strike that right chord. This wasn’t the first and I take it this won’t be my last.
From 2:30 I’m always in tears because I can see the sadness in the face.
I love this song... I just now realized how much I love it with B.T. No judgments. I love this band. Nothing lasts forever
I absolutely LOVE Shotgun. I hope I will see it live.
this is my favorite version..he just FEELS it. RIP Nicolas
Hauntingly beautiful.
I LOVE this song. I was there
as well and remember dancing in the rain with the thunder until they stopped early :(
Steffan's eyes in 05:49. That's how I'm feeling watching them
He knew he just witnessed something special.
I come back to this video at least one a month to sit in this amazement for those beautiful 7 minutes.
Same. And then watch it over and over a good dozen times..
Theee definitive version!

another hidden gem by the great Dave

Please bring this song back to live concerts
Long time DMB fan but recently discovered this track.. so so beautiful and I’ll never get over the passion of their live performances 😭
Such a hauntingly beautiful song. If I ever get the chance to see this live I don't think I will even be able to dance because of how transfixed I will be.
This and Charlottesville 2006 version are the best.

Gut wrenchingly beautiful

They definitely should. It’d be intense!
Yes I need this and butterfly on an album asap.... preferably a live album
Idea of You got a super terrible studio treatment, but the thought is right on!
i beg to put this live song on spotify
Thank you Dave.

Carter's drumming in this song is not of this earth
I was rail directly in front of Dave for this show. Took a video myself, though it's from below. This is fantastic.
one of my all time favorites.
Beautiful...was in an absolute trance during this 😍...bad weather rolling in and all⚡🌩
Why the hell do they not play this anymore I’ve seen it once as well as black Jack
best version of shotgun!!! I thought alpine was the best. this version topped that

Well really it's both. Dave sisters' husband killed her and then himself in an awful tragedy
Amazing
Perfection at its finest! ❤🐜🐐❤
So so soooooo gooooood
Heavy heavy heavy stuff
So glad I was there to experience this
I will never forget that concert because of this song.

daaaamn
One of my favorite songs yet not on ANY album and rarely does it on stage live. Sad :-(
It's on at least a couple of live trax albums. Just not a studio album.
Carter is the absolute goat in this song, the emotion is unbearable if you are aware of it
