I feels bad for the actor who voice and motion capture the protagonist, first she star in the Netflix’s Resident Evil which get tons of hate and now this, I feel like she couldn’t catch a break at all. Poor girl.
I really think she has potential but she just keeps getting screwed over by bad luck and her dumb agent. And I hate how some groups relish in her failure because she's a black woman and therefore proof of "go woke go broke" bs.
Regarding the opening even better, the cuff is in some museum being an artifact of unknown origin, the gang kidnap her cat Homer to blackmail her into breaking into the museum to steal something to make even on whatever she did to the gangs boss, she is able to avert guards because of a voice in her head from the cuff (idk if that’s how it works in game), but midway through the heist the cops are tipped off - it’s a set up! Trapped and as they close in on her she gives in to the goading from the cuff saying it can save her. She’s then pulled through to the other world before being caught. That way she has a reason to try and get back because all she cares about in that time is to save her cat and it can eat away at her to start off as she struggles, gives her an initial reason to resent the cuff before she learns of her heritage etc
22:10 Cuff does not like Frey, just had to correct you there. It's a contractual relationship of "i manipulate you to get my way and make sure you dont die before that comes to fruition"
Tanta has a very similar pronunciation to Tante in the Indonesian language; Tante in English is auntie; it's a coincidence. Also, the mother dragon's name is Cinta; Cinta in the Indonesian language means Love. I just threw unrelated knowledge into a random video about this game. Good video, by the way.
Never have I watched a video on a game I have 0 interest in from start to end. The video quality is absolutely insane. Seriously, keep this up, this is incredible!
It's really hard to imagine a bunch of people sitting down and reading through this games script then looking at each other and saying, "We f#@king nailed it"... This video was a lot of fun though.
I like how the review was neither "its a misunderstood gem" or "its really bad" just no its bad ,but your hatred for it is insufficient and here is why. By the looks and outline I feel like this game was possibly meant to be an rpg that was meant to bridge the realtime tunrbased rpg elements seen in recent final fantasy games with more instant combat, but a hard pivot was made at some point way after pre-production and way after final conceptualization and they had to scramble to this action fantasy thing and its mismatched story.I really felt the rush job and slight second hand embarrassment for the gameplay designers when I saw the gameplay of the sneak section, as it has alot of "2nd draft put the door" energy, looked like a level you would get if you opened a basic "sneak"tutorial pack in unreal 5,no real art direction in that section just space and boxes.

@Zenny the book she read in her squatters pad was Alice in Wonderland. A story about a girl who goes thru a portal to a strange and wonderous land filled with danger...
I watched a video about Forespoken that made all of these flaws clear and I could see that Forespoken is a first draft. With a re drafting or two, it might have been good. F in chat for forespoken.
I did watch a couple of streamers play the game. I can say I hated watching the story for the reasons Zenny explained. There are also some other plot holes that could have been avoided: (1. They talk about Frey's mom meeting her father on Earth, but we never get an explanation on where he was. Have a flashback moment where the mom says to him that she's pregnant and that it isn't safe to keep Frey in Athia. He agrees to meet up with her at a certain time after Frey is born. When Vambrace is remove during the middle of the portal the father is concerned because the mom is panicking, but the portal closes before he could react. A couple years later, Frey as a kid wants to know who her mom is. The dad gives some details that she loves her and wanted to keep her safe. After that small exchange, he has to head to his job but dies as he was ending his shift. (2. As mentioned, the Break is barely explained. Have the Break being the result of Vambrace being the first to master elemental powers and this drove him to madness to play God and alter reality in his image not caring of the consequences. This alteration come at a price as the world become unstable and creates a miasma of chaos "Breaking" fabrics of reality. The Tante also capable of mastering elements banded together in a desperate attempt to destroy Vambrace and reverse the Break before the entire world is destroyed. He was too powerful to be destroyed so the used their combined powers to server him into the cuffs that won't stop the Break, but at least bide them time to keep it from spreading. However, the cuffs slowly cursed their bodies in different ways: One driven to madness, one losing memories, one becoming influenced by Vambrace but dies and tries to warn Frey not to fuse the cuffs but dematerializes before she could say it. And Frey's mom, although she has the most resistance to the cuff her curse is that if it is ever removed, she loses her humanity. BADABING BADABIFF!! Two elements having some context. Why Frey was fully an orphan, and the most important, what is the source of the break. And it only took me about an hour to think that up.

Just my two cents about the video (I haven't played the game). Level design and environment design are separate things, you can have an ugly environment with a great gameplay and you can have a beautiful level that plays like shit. My second gripe is that the distraught "woosh" when the old man dies doesn't feel like a joke to me, like at all. In your video it seems like the old man and the "woosh" thing are the only things that give her hope to return home, when he dies, her "only hope" goes away and these two characters shared something.. Woosh. I like it, that's not bad writing in this particular case (my opinion is just based off what you presented in the video)

@@mycontentcreation5264 that... might actually be the best observation In this whole comment section, no idea how the fuck I missed that. Probably not literally Lucifer but a stand in/rendition of a lucifer type. Good stuff
The first red flag for me was the Isekai plot not only was it a overdone trope in much of Japanese media which I imagine many of Square fans are aware of and they typically have the protagonist wanting to go back even though they often have very little reason to because in the new world they have superpowers when they don’t in their home world. Forspoken could’ve been a great game I actually liked four element magic systems(yes like Avatar but with more mysticism) but the inane plot and unlikeable protagonist if they had given the story more thought and care it could’ve been awesome.
There's already a fairly large group of people online saying it's a hidden underrated masterpiece because of how well crafted the combat is. Like you know every single game with fanatical following you decide to give a try only to find out there is like one good mechanic and rest is dogshit?
I actually kind of like the parallel between Cuff and the Gang in the beginning. In both cases, Frey is manipulated and put in trouble by another. There isn't too much to it, but I like it
I've lived in New York for 39 years of my life and one thing I can tell you is that people will pull a gun out on you in an open area they don't give a shit in New York but number two most of the time the gun that they're pulling on you is not even loaded.... it might surprise you to know that people in New York don't want to shoot you just as much as you don't want to be shot so most of the time it's a scare tactic at a point to let you know that they do own pieces and that if you continue to fuck with them the next time it might have a bullet... you always have to separate your locks from your key even thugs aren't stupid even they know how New York works.... that's why the enemy's went and did arseny later because it's a lot easier to get away with that and it's a lot less time served if you get caught versus shooting somebody and or murder
Forspoken is what happens when your rough draft gets kicked up the chain to full production with some "Trademark MCU banter" welded on by people from another culture.
Really appreciate this video! I’m someone who favours good & fun gameplay/combat over anything else. It’s a shame how many people dismissed the combat because of how bad the rest of the game is, and don’t give it any respect for what it does well. The rest of the video was really entertaining! A great watch.
The one good thing that came from this game were the memes, the fucking meme. It was like the movie "the Room" by Tommy Wiseau personified in game form; but not in the category 'its so bad its good', but just plain awful with dialogue that just give you extreme whiplash and makes you second guess what you just listened too.
i think i finally realized why the art style wasnt doing it for me. it looks like a movie where you can tell the backgrounds are fake and the monsters are cgi. it doesnt feel like the characters are actually part of the world. they look like they have a different art style
Well the reason why i didn't play forspoken is because i wasn't interested in it. It feels like a bad generic isekai to me and plus i didn't have a ps5 all i have is Nintendo Switch, I'd rather be playing ni no kuni and less said about forspoken's pc port the better
Played Atomic Heart? Fun game. My theory: Frey gives Homer to the judge because is the only character WE have met that we can assume would take good care of him. The gang isn't gonna do it, maybe other than drown it in a river, and why would Frey approach them with Homer anyway and risk getting beat again or worse? My questions: Why and how is the cuff genetically linked to Frey is it belongs to her mother and has always been on her arm but never touched Frey, as far as we know? Was the cuff made for and to belong to Frey? Why is that apartment not cleaned out and/or repurposed in (for?) 20 years? Frey's apartment is at least abandoned and has clearly not been repossessed, so why not the cuff one? Why/how has no one else found the cuff in that time? How did the cuff end up in a vastly different location than Frey when they went through the portal at virtually the same time? The "Tantas" are Frey's aunts, you say? Well, buckle up for THIS revelation, because in my language - Norwegian - 'tanta' is the determinate conjugation of 'AUNT'. The more you know! 8D I love how the wiki barely pokes at 'the Break' with 3 lines but not even the plot is laid out because no onebothered with this game.
The thing I hate the most is that the fucking protag never fucking wants to help anyone until a fucking 180 heel turn that was never earned that she now wants to be a hero. My headcanon is that she did take the portal home, because that is all she ever fucking wanted!
I still hate Square for shutting down the studio behind Secret of Evermore. It was a nice little game from a new studio. And Square closed them down after their first title already. And as far as I know, it was the first title Jeremy Soule worked on, well known for his work on the Skyrim OST.
yup all cause the character was written by a ESG firm black girl gamer - the main thing they worked on was her character and its the worst part of the game, they had AMY HENNIG on story and still f*cked it up out of fear of "not being a good representative character" rather than a GOOD CHARACTER
When I played the game I thought the critics to be exaggereted, sure the dialogues are cringe but nothing we hadn't seen in the MCU, and the combat was the closest thing to a new Infamous game in almost 10 years (which I loved and was missing so much). But the real problem, which for whatever reason nobody was talking about, is that the whole text of this game is awful, it's just the worst. The critics were so misplaced that it almost made want to defend this game, but it's so bad it probably would have been easier to defend Resident Evil 6
Hearing praise for the combat is really weird for me because the guys I watched play it, Don and Dillon from Friends Without Benefits, had found the path of least resistance. First of all, holding the run/dodge(?) button makes you practically invincible. Don had every difficulty setting on default. Second, in combination with Frey's incidental access to ultra instinct, having infinite ammo for her rapid fire projectile magic results in every enemy posing no threat to the player at all. Playing keep away just works. Simply run around and fire the magic machine gun. These things were stumbled into, and nothing in the game forced or encouraged another way of playing. And now, because I have a text document for these, I just want to drop some comments that Don, Dillon and their chat made about Forspoken as the streams went on. "Chapter 1 [...] had a whopping ONE gameplay segment." rando in chat: "I wish she would stop forspeaking." "I'm literally just looking past the character at all times because I know that if I just hold forward and circle, she will traverse everything for me." "Is that like the tenth time, maybe more, where we've gone to gameplay, walked forward for 15 seconds (into) another cutscene?" "15 seconds is way overestimating that." "At any point when we're trying to make a decision as to how we're going to design the videogame, they have to choose between option A or option B. One of them is the obviously wrong choice and one of them is not the obviously wrong choice. And they flip a coin every time, and they somehow get the bad option every time." "By the looks of things, if you're on easy/normal/hard, it just impacts how much damage you do. And I gotta be honest, I don't necessarily want to be doing the fights for longer." "They're really boring. I have played the entirety of this videogame by mashing all of the buttons that I know do things. That's it. You hold circle and you press L1 and R1 and L2 and R2, and the game plays itself."
Thanks for asking the question honestly. The answer is yes. It really is that bad. I like bad movies and games and I couldn't get more than a third of the way through the thing.
I hate that in this female-led, female-driven, female-centric epic narrative, the villains who are supposed to be badass evil bitches, are not even evil. In the end, their villainy is the result of being controlled by some accessory. The evil queens do not even own their villainy. In the end they are weak villains, resigned to oblivion like this game will be. The only likeable character turns out to be the ultimate bad guy. In the end this game has: A hero that doesn't earn her powers through hardship, she just gets handed her shit. Also super insufferable Forgettable villains Tired cliche of a final twist that was executed poorly Traversal and combat are somewhat good tho.
@Zenny-UA-cam it perpetuates the stereotype that women can't be evil or wrong, that it is always the fault of some other thing like the patriarchy or sexism. Shifting the blame. They can't be evil just because they were evil. They had to be manipulated or tricked or some shit. Which ultimately made them ridiculous and dumb by the story's logic, since every single one of them was outsmarted by a bracelet.
@@brokenrecord1323 I think with the female lead having female villian helps.. having all your female bad ass characters turn our to be good guys ends up being belittling and silly. The tantas radiated power and strength! Having them be manipulated ends with them being weak to the powers of someone else which weakens thier character. Which just sucks
Got it when it came out on the PS5 and it was real mid. Had potential but they didn't pull it off. The powers were great though. Movement is on point and the cats are cool. That's about it though.
I've seen my fair share of gameplays of this and I hate how the game has no personality, no likeable characters, no character progression (especially in Frey spending a great amount of time shrugging off the needs and thoughts of the people but then suddenly caring as if she spent a lifetime with them) and especially, the continuous onslaught of quips and banter between her and Cuff. At times it felt as if I was watching high on life. This game studio and all the people involved both deserved better and should've worked better on this. It has potential, it's another isekai, sure, but why not making it stand out among the rest of similar stories? I personally like some of Cuff's ranged attacks, like the fully automatic stone machine gun, or the use of earthly elements offensively. There's something great in there but everything else buries it down. What a shame

But i am looking forward to rewriteing and trying to fix forspoken
That's a big job! Best of luck!
Wait the cuff is Lucifer?! A glowing angelic six winged demon, Who manipulates the main character into doing what he wants.
@@mycontentcreation5264 that... might actually be the best observation In this whole comment section, no idea how the fuck I missed that. Probably not literally Lucifer but a stand in/rendition of a lucifer type.
Good stuff
That feeling after knowing cuff was spared/forgiven is what many felt seeing Ellie sparing abbi in last of us 2...
Giggle at 22:16 is absolute gold ❤
Just a quick comment to say that UA-cam subtitles understood "thank you" when Frey is beaten up by Lisa at 8:50, and I found that pretty comical.
To answer most of your questions:
Because girl boss.
I actually kind of like the parallel between Cuff and the Gang in the beginning. In both cases, Frey is manipulated and put in trouble by another. There isn't too much to it, but I like it
I've lived in New York for 39 years of my life and one thing I can tell you is that people will pull a gun out on you in an open area they don't give a shit in New York but number two most of the time the gun that they're pulling on you is not even loaded.... it might surprise you to know that people in New York don't want to shoot you just as much as you don't want to be shot so most of the time it's a scare tactic at a point to let you know that they do own pieces and that if you continue to fuck with them the next time it might have a bullet... you always have to separate your locks from your key even thugs aren't stupid even they know how New York works.... that's why the enemy's went and did arseny later because it's a lot easier to get away with that and it's a lot less time served if you get caught versus shooting somebody and or murder
this game broke you with its knee's, your a bigger man then all those content creators that played it and thought it was cringy
Holy shit i actually forgot forspoken exists
Lucky bastard
Forspoken is what happens when your rough draft gets kicked up the chain to full production with some "Trademark MCU banter" welded on by people from another culture.
20:28-21:35 was actually a good delivery ngl
Really appreciate this video! I’m someone who favours good & fun gameplay/combat over anything else. It’s a shame how many people dismissed the combat because of how bad the rest of the game is, and don’t give it any respect for what it does well. The rest of the video was really entertaining! A great watch.
so bargain bin game get on sale and just enjoy the combat and movement mechanics
@@browal14 Honestly yeah tbh
they really should have named the game forsaken. because that is what the game is and what it caused to the studio that made it to be.
I doubt this video is as long as it needed to be. But good job I'm entertained.
The one good thing that came from this game were the memes, the fucking meme. It was like the movie "the Room" by Tommy Wiseau personified in game form; but not in the category 'its so bad its good', but just plain awful with dialogue that just give you extreme whiplash and makes you second guess what you just listened too.
I really enjoyed this, thanks
You said it all brother. This was a good one.
God I love letting the hate flow through me
Another amazing video♥️
Oh no... Forspoken DLC trailer just dropped. Well shit
tf?!
i think i finally realized why the art style wasnt doing it for me. it looks like a movie where you can tell the backgrounds are fake and the monsters are cgi. it doesnt feel like the characters are actually part of the world. they look like they have a different art style
How does this guy not have more subscribers?
The rest of the subs are just late I swear, they will show up any second now
Well the reason why i didn't play forspoken is because i wasn't interested in it. It feels like a bad generic isekai to me and plus i didn't have a ps5 all i have is Nintendo Switch, I'd rather be playing ni no kuni and less said about forspoken's pc port the better
Everybody asks what is the break. Nobody asks how is the break 💔
Played Atomic Heart? Fun game.
My theory:
Frey gives Homer to the judge because is the only character WE have met that we can assume would take good care of him. The gang isn't gonna do it, maybe other than drown it in a river, and why would Frey approach them with Homer anyway and risk getting beat again or worse?
My questions:
Why and how is the cuff genetically linked to Frey is it belongs to her mother and has always been on her arm but never touched Frey, as far as we know?
I love how the wiki barely pokes at 'the Break' with 3 lines but not even the plot is laid out because no onebothered with this game.
0:26 "That's not a square, that's a rectangle"
*a few seconds later*
"Oh, it's the game".
I own a ps5, I got the platinum trophy, I beat the game... THE MAIN CHARACTER SUCKED AND IT WAS BORING COMBAT. Cuff was unfairly hated
I'm sorry did you just say you PLATINUMED THE GAME?!?!
@Zenny-UA-cam The game was bland, so I just went ahead and got all the trophies in two days, then dropped the game
@@hunterhancock5221 oooohhh I assumed a platinum would be hard as hell. Good for you for dropping this smelly ass game
@Zenny-UA-cam lol no the game even marks all collectibles on the map at some point
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, yeah
Told ya 😎
@@Zenny-UA-cam the combat and frey made the game better.
The thing I hate the most is that the fucking protag never fucking wants to help anyone until a fucking 180 heel turn that was never earned that she now wants to be a hero. My headcanon is that she did take the portal home, because that is all she ever fucking wanted!
Not old enough to have played Final Fantasy I but I did play Final Fantasy X on PS2.
Also I do own a PS5 and I found Forspoken pretty bad.
When he said „frame rate“, I thought he said „Fray rate“ lol
"Chapter 1 [...] had a whopping ONE gameplay segment."
rando in chat: "I wish she would stop forspeaking."
"I'm literally just looking past the character at all times because I know that if I just hold forward and circle, she will traverse everything for me."
"Is that like the tenth time, maybe more, where we've gone to gameplay, walked forward for 15 seconds (into) another cutscene?"
"15 seconds is way overestimating that."
"At any point when we're trying to make a decision as to how we're going to design the videogame, they have to choose between option A or option B. One of them is the obviously wrong choice and one of them is not the obviously wrong choice. And they flip a coin every time, and they somehow get the bad option every time."
"By the looks of things, if you're on easy/normal/hard, it just impacts how much damage you do. And I gotta be honest, I don't necessarily want to be doing the fights for longer."
"They're really boring. I have played the entirety of this videogame by mashing all of the buttons that I know do things. That's it. You hold circle and you press L1 and R1 and L2 and R2, and the game plays itself."
It makes sense that The Cuff is the villain because it looks like a dark souls boss
Thanks for asking the question honestly. The answer is yes. It really is that bad. I like bad movies and games and I couldn't get more than a third of the way through the thing.
Marketing must have been pretty abysmal too, cus I genuinely had no idea this existed until now.
i love your videos dude
Why thank you good sir
Lol nice video man keep up the good work 😊
I hate that in this female-led, female-driven, female-centric epic narrative, the villains who are supposed to be badass evil bitches, are not even evil. In the end, their villainy is the result of being controlled by some accessory. The evil queens do not even own their villainy. In the end they are weak villains, resigned to oblivion like this game will be. The only likeable character turns out to be the ultimate bad guy.
In the end this game has:
A hero that doesn't earn her powers through hardship, she just gets handed her shit. Also super insufferable
Forgettable villains
Tired cliche of a final twist that was executed poorly
Traversal and combat are somewhat good tho.
I like the tantas when they were evil, they were cool as hell! And then they aunties by the end and it's like.... wat?

Why is it not one hour
You are right. Next video should be 2 hours to compensate
amazing video as always also seeing this game makes my ears and eyes bleed
My 2 months of suffering was worth it, aslong as you all enjoy
