  • Talk's Mike Graham and former government adviser James Price discuss this week’s talks between the Government and rail unions over pay rises for rail workers.
    The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) met with officials at the Department for Transport on Tuesday to discuss a pay rise for its members at train-operating companies.
    The union will be seeking a deal for this year, without any changes to terms and conditions.
    James: “The Labour Party is no friend of business… they’re only enthralled to their union pay bosses, as always.”

    Labour is repaying their debt to the Unions. We knew it would happen. Glory days ahead for the Unions. Sir Keir knows the Unions love him and support him.

      “Labour Party Is No Friend Of Business” | Government Holds Talks With Rail Unions 1236pm 21.8.24 what debt? hardly a surge of union support which won the labour party the election. if that was the case old kinnock ( ye olde windbag!) would have been elected years ago... the labour movement and the labour party are not one and the same thing. though one surmises they probably used to be - many years ago...... allegedly they've decided to stick it out for more cash - these unions and their muckers. which is hardly insightful if you consider folk are allegedly taxed to the hilt when their pay packet reaches a certain level... might be fun to see their faces, then, if that happens... a little bird tells me if they're earning the max now without being taxed to the hilt then it could be a case of seeing their hard earned endeavours go to pot as the tax office and the Ni sucks them dry. though, again, i have no idea what the case is with NI contributions anymore..... i paid in!!! i demand that much vaunted aid when i'm in schtuck!! scummy dole dosser - again!!!! i chose the biggest syndicate to side with ie: official government as opposed to piddling commune mob rule which funking doesn't pay out anyway... cos they're a dishonest con!!!!

    I was reading yesterday about the "pay and conditions" that Starmer has already caved in about. One is that when on meal break, if anyone from Management dares to say "Hello" to a driver. The driver is entitled to start their break all over again.
    Roll on the day when driverless trains start running.

    Labour are however a friend to the big multinationals(they have been ever since Blair was their leader) - and that is a big problem - leaving aside their relations with the unions.

    If you voted for Labour, remember, you are responsible for this shower in office right now.
    I remember the Callaghan government that struggled after the resignation of Harold Wilson as Labour leader in 1977. James Callaghan stepped into the fray and in 1979, Maggie Thatcher led the Conservative party to an historic victory.
    The rest as they say is history.

      @Fabbydabby1 21 день тому

      How are we doomed.
      When you give a pay rise to average workers they will spend it in the economy.
      Are you jealous?

    • @davidhall4706
      @davidhall4706 21 день тому

      Jealous? By no means. I’ve lived for more than 3 score years and 10 and have seen it all before. You, I suspect are much younger and have swallowed the hype. When certain parts of the country are handed a pay rise others believe they too should have one. Once this circus starts it’s very difficult to stop. Put simply, uncontrolled pay rises in this manner only lead to price rises so no one wins. I don’t expect you to accept what I say. You will eventually see it for yourself.
      On the one hand we are told that the country is deep in debt and on the other we are able to give certain groups large pay rises (which, as a country, we can’t afford), the same group accepting the pay rise demanded and the immediately going back on selective strikes for even more. Etc etc etc. as I said Cb originally - We’re all doomed. It gives me no pleasure whatsoever to say what I have said but you do need to be prepared for much worse to come.

      @kimjackson4041 for one everyone should be able to make a comfortable living , wherever you are a chemist , cleaner , rail worker, whatever.
      Secondly train driving is not as simple as those who are ignorant to the job make out . Not everyone is cut out for it , especially if you work on the national rail trains where they are not automatic .
      Railway workers put up with alot of antisocial b.s on a daily from probably people like you who think they can talk to them how they want just because their train is 3minutes late along with the junkies and sick passengers trying to get a train to hospital because the NHS won't deal with them , so yes they are worth the money
