This is not something I will believe unless I see proof. Once Toys 4 Bob's newest project is out, the question for what Microsoft's future with mascot platformers is up in the air. Astro Bot's traction might boost interest, but ultimately, Microsoft's history of leaving platformers on the shelf is a concern.
6:18 Rare was second party, and were hoping someone would buy them outright to cover dev costs for the upcoming console gen, yada yada yada. Microsoft and Rare were in talks as far back as Diddy Kong Racing, so it’s not as shocking as you might think. And for Nuts and Bolts, Xbox was not in charge of Nuts and Bolts’ direction - it was all Rare’s doing, specifically director Gregg Mayles who wanted to do something different. Check out the Rare Revealed on it for more info. Xbox did market itself as a hardcore system yes, but they did in fact want to market to younger audiences as well - there was the “Family Games” brand on 360, and is partially why Conker Live and Reloaded had some of its language censored, according to Rare dev Chris Marlow. Roughly 700 out of the near 1000 titles on the OG Xbox were not M-rated.
You are right, I knew something was missing from the video, Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts was entirely Rare's direction rather than a Microsoft one, it's wild to think that misinformation on Rare is still as present as ever.
Great comment covered a bit of what I was going to add myself. Rare has full autonomy from the moment of purchase. Nutz & Bolts was their desired direction. Stating that Banjo needed to evolve with the platform they are now home to. This was part of Banjos thing to refer in wall break to it being a game on your Nintendo console. This was done again but with the then modern 360. It's also correct that Xbox designed the Family range to appeal to the younger crowd and funded many many titles though Arcade and Rares own ventures into Kinect 360.. The later was Microsofts request post Nutz & Bolts.. Rare lost some of their autonomy during that phase this is true. Rare also designed the Xbox avatar system on 360 and when transitioning to Xbox One upgraded that system for the platform and regained the internal trust to make a new title without oversight/direction. This title was Sea of Theives.. A return to form for Rare and also a clear message that Banjo, Conker. Are in the past for them. Microsoft has admitted they don't know what to do with them and have likely focus tested enough to know that the market isn't there for them in a significant number.. We might want them but they need to really justify themselves in support to get further titles. Microsoft has positioned themselves to a major 3rd party publisher as well as a platform holder. This is totally unique and new within the space. This means Crash and Spyro will not skip anyone. They will appear everywhere even more places than ever before in fact. It's very likely that they have also reviewed a number of older titles and their present value added for wider release now as well. This is a smart move. To explain in PlayStation terms for people.. MediEvil remake isn't making Sony big money just being an exclusive. It could make more if it was now released on Xbox, Switch and Steam. The value of attracting those users is no longer there you have got them there already. The other users aren't still flocking there for this title. This is but one example of where Sony could also do a 3rd party publishing strategy with its own IPs to get them the wider attention they need to finance a new title or the studios and new projects. Xbox has the right idea both financially and ethically. They though Phil Specer have suggested that their goal is 2 billion users. In layman's terms. Microsoft intends to make Xbox the Windows of gaming. The platform for gaming major gaming of all kinds.. They have amassed studios to produce a endless in house stream of titles in corner stone IPs. It's ungodly how much IP they have now. People should be grateful that Microsoft no longer sees value in 'console wars' with its massive treasure chest of IPs and sees the added value that opening them up to or leaving them open to more like in much of Activisions case to as many as possible means more success. How is this new focus on users going for Microsoft in their newly defined market? Xbox/Microsoft Account - 500 million monthly active users. Steam/Valve Account- 138 million monthly active users. PlayStation/Sony Account - 116 million monthly active users. I'd say it's going quite well. They are about to fully flip all Windows PCs into Xboxs as well with a new Xbox launch mode though Windows 11. This will bring 100s of millions of more users into the Xbox ecosystem fully and not just though an app on PC. Massive and they have the Cloud service where you can launch all Game Pass titles on anything with a Web Browser adding to that the ability to play your owned titles throughout this year. This list of games and IPs is going to continue to pile up within Game Pass from all these studios.. The value to gamers is crazy. The ecosystem itself beats the rest of the market as well. Xbox has fully evolved into being the first full gaming platform. It's on everything and nobody else offers this. This pushes gaming to another level. Think about all those kids with iPads folks. 1 Game Pass sub and a controller and your got them Crash, Spyro, Psychonauts, Banjo, Conker, Blinx, Voodoo Vince, HiFi Rush, Sunset Overdrive, Ori.. And many if not all 3rd party offerings in the platforming field at that time.. Silksong for example and new Shovelknight. Many of the older stuff for Blizzard and Activision will also continue to fully join the service. Lost Vikings, Blackthorne, Pitfall.. Even the older Sierra stuff as well. EAs standard tier is also part of the service so their titles are also all there basically except the games released in the last 9 to 12 months. Safe to say.. Xbox is the future. For everyone.
@@PhantomDeth thank you so much for your comment. Im into the industry myself but here in germany everyone says xbox is dead and they killed themself with unclear marketing and communication. I mean they said last year we just bring 4 games to ps5 with hi fi rush sea of thieves pentiment and grounded and a few month later he says we can port what we want and announced doom and indiana jones for ps5. In germany the most people say, why buy an xbox if playstation has more games.(most people have a pc though because its a pc country) But you shocked me. Xbox has 500 million users and Steam just 138??? Everyone here says that steam is the hot shit and everyone buys games over it if not on psn. Is that real? Is xbox popular on pc in america? As for nintendo They will be the only one that will keep everything exclusive vecause their games are not such a risk to develop and lose money from and basiccly everyone has a switch as a 2nd console. For me i just say I wish xbox would keep stuff exclusive because thats how you get people to buy a console. See sony and nintendo.
To be real, Blinx was a good game, and it can be redeamed if a studio bothers to fix and polish it up for modern platforms. If only Microsoft will acknowledge that.
This is Microsoft we're talking about, they're not gonna do anything that'll keep a positive sentiment. They haven't done anything with Conker in almost two decades, Banjo hasn't had a new game since the 360, and Crash is shelved...
9:00 bro Rare and the creator of Banjo kazooie wanted to make Nuts and bolts. He thought people dont like platformers anymore and and was burnt out after working on platformers for over 10 years. Even if you remove banjo from the game, the game is just empty and the missions boring. I dont like the redesign and the music are just remixes
Yeah, sorry, I’m not buying it. With Xbox’s track record, you’d more easily convince me they straight up just hate mascot platformers. They bought Rare, the kings of mascot platformers, just to sit on all their IP’s for a decade and force them to make Kinect shovelware. I don’t believe that company would suddenly turn around and become a haven for the genre.
Right now as we speak I will only view Microsoft as a remaster and Ip collections firm, they haven't made a new game that wasn't a remaster in over a decade ...they buy ips and shut down studios because the money that was going to those studios goes to the profits for the investors and the shareholders to see... Until they actually make something new instead of stapling micro-transactions to everything and hoarding franchises like fucking pokemon cards I will retain this perspective. Microsoft isn't a videogame company
It is also worth mentioning that Xbox is essentially the home of Sonic games, thanks to backwards compatibility making titles like Unleashed fully accessible & MASSIVELY improved on modern hardware! When no other platform currently has access to Unleashed, while SA1, SA2 & the Sega All-Stars Racing games (one of which Banjo-Kazooie was in, but only for Xbox 360), which Xbox & Steam both still have readily available to anyone. Also, you successfully got me started on the "Sounds like a great idea, with the best of intentions!" video series!😅
I will never get back to Xbox ever... I've already had enough of Microsoft's bs when it comes to broken promises and buying out companies that have the IP's and never used them. Its bad enough that they basterdise the Banjo-Kazooi, Conqer, and Battle Toads from stupid design and gameplay decisions, not to mention canceling a lot of games. I don't trust Xbox and I never will.
Man this video is just a whole bunch of nothing, you are not making any points regarding how or why Xbox can become the house of platformers outside of pointing out that they have a bunch of IPs that they can use but decide not to(IPs they have had for years and still didn’t do anything with them, so why would they start now?) Which wow what a discovery, it’s not like we haven’t known this for years. till minute 16 this video is just a quick recap of Xbox history and history of platformers, nothing here, this just screams burnout, washed out, like you don’t even know where to take this channel anymore, and you are just shilling for Microsoft to see if they can throw you something
There's something to be said for the Japanese philosophy of growing from within, to build a company culture and expand through your own success. But when it comes to companies like Microsoft they just think they can throw their money around and buy everyone up. They should not have a monopoly over entire genres of games, this destroys creativity which is not good for gamers.
So as a 3D platformer fan, should I pay for Game Pass on a hunch??? Just because they have a lot of IPs doesn't mean they'll do anything other than expand the catalog. I'd have to see it to believe it, but those recent purchases haven't yielded much fruit as now. Xbox barely knows what to do with its AAA games, I doubt they'll even think about doing anything with its 3D platformers.
The way they get my trust? Don’t be the Smiling Friends CEO that got memed. Don’t have it be your IP you sit on and do nothing with. Make. New. Games. With these IP.
26:50 The fact you have to say outdidd of nintendo is the proof that microsoft still has a long way to go to being a power house in the platformer space.
Also personally i think eventually Xbox be broken up once they gain a monopoly on the gaming industry. Hopefully if it does; Rare goes back to Nintendo.
doubt it since they aren't exactly the biggest when compared to Tencent and Embracer, if they do break up, I'm pretty sure it'll be Microsoft as a whole, not their Gaming Division
@@bendyfan-yd1ezYou people want Microsoft to on one hand respect the IPs.. But also what them to crackwhip the developers to make a game they've have expressed no desire to return to. You understand if Microsoft felt they could bring back Banjo or Conker the right way they would have done it by now.. They want to make money yes.. But not at the expense of damaging the IPs themselves. Which is why they haven't just farmed out these IPs for sequels. They've waited for the right time and right people to want to make a game using them. This same criticism could be leveled at Sony if not more so. They have done nothing with MediEvil, Ape Escape, Team Buddies, Jak, Sly.. Where are they?.. Ratchet is the only one. And they said they were going to retire it now due to low sales and support. We have the accept that platformers have become niche they aren't the major force they were 20+ years ago.. Interests are elsewhere largely. Some still do well but you'll snuggle to name a modern success new platformer outside of established entries in newish returned IPs like Crash, Spryo or Mario. For the praise Astrobot received it has not done well in its sales goals.. With just 1.5 million copies sold. This is a problem for platforming fans and should be the story really. This here is what is preventing more platforming games.. This is what has stopped Rayman.. This is what held back Crash and Spyro returning.. This is why Sony abandoned platformers.. They don't do the numbers. Now like I said some do. But some have run their success course and new reinvention to return. For example.. Croc is making a return. Great for old heads like me but they have suggested that this along with a remaster of the second title are their launch point to bring the series back with a new title. They are likely going to accept the reach Croc itself has as an IP and evolve it slightly but keep it a platformer. There are a number of smaller indie ventures in the space that are great and inventive titles this is the space today for platformers. If you really love the genre the best place to find them is actually on Steam where many of these smaller indie titles launch first then after enough support might be able to produce a port to consoles. But until the market for platforms grows itself IPs will be sparing in their releases.
Honestly, any time I hear tell of XBox buying out IP’s like Crash and Spyro, anxious doesn’t even begin to cover it. I am a Nintendo and PlayStation guy, and have zero interest or desire to purchase an XBox. Also, I’d have no space for it with my Switch and PS5. But, and this is a big but. If 3D platformers like Crash and Spyro remain multi-platform games, and remain available on PlayStation and/or Nintendo, then I have no worries. If the alternative happens… then worries
They have no interest in locking off existing IP from anyone and never have. They don't wish to operate like Nintendo and Sony with denying others and strong arming people with the IPs hostage. You can continue to buy them full price where you wish to play. Or you can get a Game Pass subscription and play it that way though your browser on any device or on your PC.. Which is a full on Xbox now. Xbox is a platform as well as a publisher this is new. They are not doing it the old way. They have abandoned that with the new goal set out in 2014 of being the platform for gaming itself.. As well as the dominant publisher of significant IP. To be the gaming equivalent of Windows. They are on track for this.. Sony if they have any desire to remain market leader need to very quickly adapt to this new approach from Xbox or they will lose their crown.. They are already suffering from a lack of capacity at this cost level. This should be your concern.. Sony are likely to produce very few games for the rest of this gen.. Meaning the PlayStation is largely going to be a 3rd party box.. A situation Xbox is going to capitalise. Sucking up PlayStation consumers money though continued Activision, Blizzard and Bethesda releases and a few older Xbox titles as well. The rules to the game have changed and many have missed the change of pace and are still viewing it all from walled console ecosystems. Xbox has since 2016 being rolling out piece by piece this massive overhaul of Xbox from just a console to a full gaming platform beyond plastic. What does this mean for Xbox hardware I hear you ask.. Well now with this new outlook fully implemented by the onset of a new incoming gen Xboxs approach to hardware has changed. It's focus is now users.. It today boasts the most of any platform due to these earlier changes and mergers.. 500 million active a month. Not all of these will buy consoles.. Not all of these have.. Some of those are even PlayStation and Nintendo consoles via Xbox/Microsoft/Activision accounts on Minecraft, CoD ect.. So each user must have products for them.. Console users will get a cutting edge next gen experience as always. With a promised major leap there from Xbox president Sarah Bond. But with this consoles new skews.. The virgining handheld PC market can now also become a console market.. Meaning companies like Asus, Samsung ect call all make Xbox approved and enabled out the box devices. Xbox is also rumoured to be producing their own handheld device possibly to start next gen. PC users are increasingly catered for with ever more integration into the console experience all Windows 11 devices can flip to Xbox mode and boot as the console experience and all it's features. And mobile users have full gaming experiences now avaliable to them at a level never seen all though a browser. There is no value to Xbox in keeping Crash or Spyro chained away at that point is there? They are already positioned to take over the wider gaming space though share size of IP treasure chest and ease of access to their platform on whatever device you want.
@dougtheghoul2845 So we're just console warring.. Why? Do you wish for Crash and Spyro to locked down? What value is that to that IPs audience?.. Are you mad you don't get to list war with others instead of people being able to enjoy gaming?
@suroguner They have made games with all the games they have acquired.. Indiana Jones, Doom, Starfield, HiFi Rush, Grounded, Outer Worlds, Avowed, South of Midnignt, Fable, Halo, Gears, Age of Empires, Minecraft, Diablo 4... Shall we keep going?.. Oh and new Crash and Spyro games in due time.
I love blinx the time sweeper and even made it my first youtube lets play series...iv almost finished the series completely yes its rage full and slow but its still fun
I was out for drinks with friends and was sitting next to one of them who works at Rare, i asked him about if Banjo would ever be developed by them and he said no because the fans think they want Banjo back but they wouldnt like it because the team who developed the banjo games is gone and completely different now.
Where TF is CTR NF for Steam? They have dropped NST and Spyro As a PC user I have to accept that I miss out on CRumble, but I want CTR NF on Steam, doing everything the game has to offer via Yuzu doesn’t cut it for me
It's likely to release on Steam at some point. But as a fellow PC user the game is on PC already via the Xbox app. They are also likely to add Crash 4 and Rumble to it in the coming months so key an eye out for it.
@@PhantomDeth No it's not. CTR NF is not playable on PC at all (if we don't count the Yuzu emulator), not even through XCloud. It was only added to console Gamepass. We have to keep bothering Xbox social media accounts about it to show them there is interest. Similar to how Persona fans did it when they wanted Switch and PC versions. There is no justifiable reason to have one of the best kart racers ever made locked out of the biggest gaming platform.
@@LincolnlynxJ Someone did and he confirmed he was just making a joke on stage. Too bad no one thought his joke was a joke so they did what they do in tallow newspapers. Lie and make money for clicks
Really love Blinx The Time Sweeper since i was a kid and still loves it to this day. Totally my favourite game of all time. I just wish Microsoft could aknowledge more on that franchise but alas, It is what it is.
I don't have as much faith in Xbox/Microsoft as I used to months ago, and I know they're trying to set things up.. but we've been waitng for over a year now since the merger finalized... and we haven't heard of any announcement in regards to Crash, Spyro, or any others.. Banjo Kazooie has been something Microsoft has wanted, but Rareware have been dragging their feet in wanting to decide. Hopefully Astrobot's success is the writing on the wall to make people realize that 3D platformers are still loved by everyone. And if people still don't believe that 3D Platformers are profitable... Then why is Mario and Sonic are still pumping out games? It's not the game, the mascot, the premise, but indecisiveness from the top that choose to stick the "safe route" even though the safe route [being live services] is going to slowly hemorrhage their profits..... Just like what happened to Sony.
Bobby Kotick kept "Toys for Bob" going, XBOX got rid of them before the ink was dry. Platformers do not sell. Crash 4 on PC makes Concord look successful. Children also mainly play mobile games and metaverse games like Roblox since consoles and PC audiences look down on them and the number of games aimed at kids on those platforms has been shrinking for a long time. There is not nostalgia for platformers from the younger generations and not enough to sell them to enough people over 30.
Of course you don't need to buy an Xbox. They are even rumored to be porting Halo and Starfield to the Switch 2. Why does anyone need an Xbox now? Game pass?!
For the wider ecosystem and the fact it has 500 million monthly active users putting it well and above other platforms. Here's a cool feature.. I can be playing on my Xbox console.. Go to a friend's house and then load into that save on my tablet and keep playing it.. I can then come home and then boot up my PC load up the same bought copy of Death Stranding.. Or Final Fantasy 15... Or Crash or Spyro and resume that save there again. All with 1 purchase.. Now tell me. Does anyone else offer this feature and value?
@@PhantomDethexclusives sell consoles. They focus too much on xcloud and giving their competition our exclusives, they loyal Xbox fan gets nothing in return. "When we all play everyone wins" only works of PlayStation and Nintendo give Xbox some games too
I am a Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts defender, but I do agree it's not a good BK game, just a good-on-its-own game. I think had a proper Banjo-Kazooie been announced and this one was just considered a spin-off (which I think it was originally meant to be a tie-in to a canceled BK tv show, so it would've been a spin-off), fans wouldn't have hated on it as much. They maybe would've accepted it as a spin-off. Or it could've been an original IP, but it probably wouldn't have gotten as much attention that way, at least not at the time. Anyway, Idk how much longer Microsoft will be making Xbox consoles, but I do hope they capitalize on the 3D Platformer craze (as long as they make the games good).
A Mario 3d World like crossover with coop and differents movesets for each characters would be sooo cool I think. Differents movesets that would allow to acces differents locations of the levels could encourage to replay every levels with every characters😛
idk, after MS bought Rare just to do nothing with them since the XB1 era and the Series X having no games, im not very confident about Xbox platformers.
Crash N. Sane Trilogy, 4 and Spyro Reignited are also on PlayStation and Nintendo, Psychonauts duology are on PlayStation, Banjo-Kazooie N64 duology are on Switch Online and New Super Lucky's Tale is on Switch and PlayStation. Only true Xbox exclusive platformers playable on One/Series are Blinx, Voodoo Vince, Conker (Which Bad Fur Day might come to Switch Online), Kameo and Nuts and Bolts. Hell, most of these games existed before they appeared on Xbox. Most notably the original Crash and Spyro trilogies, Conker and Banjo-Kazooie duology
Let me put it this way: Up until the Xbox, not a single well-known console was left without _any_ interesting exclusives for gamers like myself, and Blinx DID fit that criteria (I haven't properly played it yet, but store demos mean I have _enough_ confidence in it)... and the 360 managed to have enough exclusives that I felt it was a good purchase (yes that includes Nuts and Bolts, which I enjoyed)! But everything after that? Xbox had _nothing_ exclusive that interested me, barring New Super Lucky's Tale (a mediocre title, and quickly made multi-plat anyway). I'm not even sure how many consoles since 360 they've _had,_ that's how far off they went! Unfortunately, barring Astro Bot, the same fate has befallen PS5. Ratchet used to be another exclusive, but like NSLT earlier, it went multi-plat (namely Steam). More so in fact, they've only got 21 exclusives to their name in _total,_ let alone what interests ME! Honestly, what I see in the future is this: The Xbox as a brand is going to die pretty rapidly, subsumed by Steam. The Playstation brand, if it does not learn from the success of Astro Bot, will follow afterwards. Nintendo will outlast them both by a good deal, but if they overlook what's happening, even _they_ will be rendered obsolete. Gaming will persist, but consoles will not.
3-D platformers aren’t the only games we don’t get much of, one other genre is on rail shooters. Yooka RePlaylee & Fur Squadron Phoenix look promising though, hopefully they’ll do them justice.
@IvanLerma759 Infinite and MCC both in top 20 most played titles on the ecosystem each week. They trade places. MCC leads this week 18th place, Infinite is 19th place. Last week Infinite 16th place, MCC 18th place.. Infinite had a new seasonal drop recently. Halo is doing just fine.. Can it be doing better.. Yes. And it will with the new leadership and studio restructure. Halo will be taking a leaf from Dooms revival. Halo will embrace being a multi genre IP.. Going beyond FPS more significantly. How we will have to wait and see. But it's looking promising already. Mark it.
i'll never understand why nintendo let rare go. They werent 'technically' owned, but Nintendo owned so much stock they basically did. There was a huge year range where majority of the games on nintendo consoles people wanted to play were made by rare. And thinking back...theres like 2 games for the N64 i care about that wasnt made by rare: Mario/Zelda (ok 4, both zeldas and mariokart too)
I think it made perfect sense for Microsoft/Xbox would take notes from Nintendo when i comes to be the home for Mascot Platforms thesedays. Plus i think my games would have definitive editions on Xbox
With 500 million monthly active users and billions invested into making Xbox a platform beyond just a console. No.. Xbox is about to become the Windows of gaming itself.
You know despite everyone disapproving in the comments it would seem. I’m more intrigued that Microsoft could make a ton of video games that involve Crash, Spyro, Banjo-Kazooie all of the above. I know people will joke like “It's My IP To Sit On and Do Nothing With” from Smiling Friends. But in my circulation, I believe in faith for them to make more games involving those IPs, it doesn't matter if everyone will think they won’t do it. I’m very optimistic for them to keep doing what they’re doing. Thanks to the fans it encourages them to make them. And people don’t convince me to hate Microsoft cause I’m not looking into that. But I am still waiting for Toys for Bob to make Spyro 4 or something like a new IP presumably.
nice to see you here, dead. Personally, i am wishing to see maybe xbox bring in more platformers especially banjo kazooie returning plus crash still continuing, we might not be sure if it'll happen though but currently i am in the belief they may show up in other consoles.
@ One day they will return, as many people never gave up on the beloved legacy IPs. It's funny I saw Stefan was on this channel and now I found you too.
"Join the xbox ecosystem"? More like graveyard. Your being way to optimistic here buddy. As long as they aren't xbox exclusive then fine. But dude, Microsoft doesn't care about those type of games. U cant push DEI and ESG nonsense in those as much either in those games, and Microsoft is all about that crap. Ive given up on seeing spyro back. Too many rumors and "leaks" from you have ruined that. Sorry but i have no faith in this anymore..
Yooooo i love me some blinx its pretty sad that microsoft didn't want to anything with it and also dude dang whats with the cold shoulder on my boi like his game isn't really that bad at all in fact imo it a really fun along with beautiful level design that really shows the capability of the xbox and with its amazing soundtrack 🙂
Something holding back 3d platformers has historically been console exclusives. This obviously was challenged with Astro Bot on the PS5, but consumers like me aren't buying the PS5 due to finances. I can pay $60 I guess, but like $500+?! No, I can't, nor do I have a monitor or TV for said console. Lowering the barrier to entry, and thus the possibility of more success, would be launching a game on as many platforms as possible. Steam, for example. I can run it on my laptop and just buy the game there. I point all this out because the discussion of Xbox becoming the "home for mascot platformers" can insinuate console exclusivity. And this is bad for the genre and consumer long-term compared to the short-term gains Xbox or other companies might make.
Yeah Xboxs plan is to be playable as the easiest level possible.. Open a browser on any device on your PC or on a console if you chose.. Your 1 purchase carries across all levels of access.. Plus Game Pass to boot. The point of being the home of platformers. This is angled more for his channels audiences interest in platformers but can be said also of MMOs, or Stratagy games.. Or Shooters.. Xbox has built such a large wealth of IPs and with its goal of having them all accessible via Game Pass in one place this makes them the defacto home of these genres major IPs at very affordable levels of entry. All of their historic IPs titles are there plus any new titles in those IPs and new IPs all going into the service and platform.. With time comes more titles making it more and more the case that they are the home of all these games and where you'll go to play them all. Regardless of the device.. Xbox console, PC.. Cloud on your browser on whatever device you want. This is totally new to gaming.. You 1 copy of the game now works across everything.. Go on holiday boom you can boot up the game right there cast to the TV and pick right back up with your save. The ecosystem really is incredible and the games themselves are the reason your there and why you'll check it out for yourself. When the new Crash or Spyro drops for example it will be day 1 right there on Game Pass on playable anywhere via the ecosystem. Nobody else is doing this. Or can do this. Microsoft is setup to take over gaming itself as the defacto platform for people playing these major IP they own and much of the 3rd party stuff as well because why wouldn't you want to also have the power to own a Switch.. Boot up the browser and play Xbox games on the device?.. Why buy a Steam or PlayStation version when that's possible?
I hope they realise that and start hiring great platformer games developers and make new games. Double fine, toys for bob and beenox are good but we need banjo and other great characters to come back. Great video as always man ❤
@@SimeJojabanjo was never given the chance because after 2 good games the games still never were that popular . And nuts and bolts flopped horrendously . It’s bad when crash 2 and skylanders one alone outsell banjo as a franchise .
I skipped having the Ps3 when it was new, my dad had gotten the Xbox 360 at the time and were happily playing CoD. I now have both Xbox One and Ps4,d still play the Ps4 over the Xbox due to nostalgia really, i got the Spyro Reignited Trilogy on both the Ps4 and the Xbox One, and only ever played it on the Ps4(both physical and digital copy. Physical on Ps4). I have not touched any games on the Xbox One since probs Sonic Forces was new. I don't mind the Xbox one bit, but I just don't touch it much, the controller alone throws me off. then again if I switch from the Switch controller to the Ps4 controller I for get my buttons. lol... Any how's I don't think it'll be a bad thing for Xbox to have the mascots but they need to be careful or it's possible those games won't have the magic they use to hold and we never see any of those games come to light ever again.
@@silversky3067 I mean Xbox owns Spyro so they would make it exclusive but idk cuz I can’t really think of a time where Xbox exclusively releases their games on their console and not on all platforms on launch day.
sony been having woke failure after failure the only exclusives Playstation has on PS5 was Ratchet and Clank Rift apart (2nd party) and Astro Bot(1st part). And i feel sony going fully 3rd party too. With no competition with nintendo nintendo will become more shellfish and more greedy. Microsoft need come out and say that no need for Xbox consoles anymore same with sony in the future
I think the appropriate title for this video would be “Xbox may quickly become the prison for mascot platformers”. It’s basically true because when has Microsoft ever made games for their consoles, short answer never, I wouldn’t be surprised if that if Halo isn’t going that well, they bring out banjo kazooie, Spyro or crash as their secret weapon or ace up their sleeves and you know that’s how they treat them now. Not to mention they also piggy back off the success of their second party companies for making games that are actually games, but do they give them credit for it no they slap their logo on it and close the company. Also all they do is just making cosmetics for the consoles and controllers, when really people want games and not different versions of the same console it’s like their doing the whole comic covers how it’s the same story but the cover is a different look, that’s all they do.
I will never stop memeing on astro bot getting game of the year I've only played the free one that came with the ps5 but that's just a glorified tech demo of the ps5 controller
This just screams cope. As much as I want to see this, we've seen time and time again, it ain't happening. They've not done anything with Banjo since Nuts & Bolts, the same for Conker, and I doubt that game will ever see a sequel. Rare's not the same company, all the people that made it a name are long gone, and the company just exists now as a good faith name. Microsoft and Xbox are worse than Sony and Nintendo about not doing anything with the series they have under their belt. This is also a company that's directionless, they show there's no point in owning their console, they want to push Game Pass even though it conditions people to not buy games, and they're slowly but surely becoming the next Sega. I love Spyro, but I have no faith in the series getting a good revival under Xbox and Phil Spencer, and they don't seem interested at all in these series aside from how they'll bolster the lineup on Game Pass. Spyro and Crash would be in better hands if Nintendo got hold of the IP.
I think you mean Xbox becoming the home of popular franchises who'll probably never see any games anytime soon since their priority is monopolizing the industry, instead of actually creating games 😐 Yes there may be speculation and rumors here and there, but we've been going around in circles for years already, it's insane but that's reality 🤷♀️
Why not buy those ip from Xbox/Activision? Even means possible, they aren't interested game characters heavy and more money hungry companies never change new entertainment industry standard without incompetence future from time passed legacy gen X. Those two ip originated Insomniac and Naughty dog games before they decided drop out game franchise and move into Spider man, The last of us and Ratchet and clank ongoing new due to interview said no motivation. What about Spyro turn into open world main character like gta Fantasy version Dragon age mix fast paced combat whole idea pattern, clim system and let's not forget flight system combat time than just travel floating island.
I think you wanted to say: "Xbox may quickly comes the „graveyard“ for mascot platformers.
Cemetery works too
6:18 Rare was second party, and were hoping someone would buy them outright to cover dev costs for the upcoming console gen, yada yada yada.
@@TheCartoonGamer8000 crazy that he did not do research.
He is literally the Platformer hub on UA-cam.

This is Microsoft we're talking about, they're not gonna do anything that'll keep a positive sentiment. They haven't done anything with Conker in almost two decades, Banjo hasn't had a new game since the 360, and Crash is shelved...
9:00 bro
Rare and the creator of Banjo kazooie wanted to make Nuts and bolts.
He thought people dont like platformers anymore and and was burnt out after working on platformers for over 10 years.
Even if you remove banjo from the game, the game is just empty and the missions boring. I dont like the redesign and the music are just remixes
What's wrong with remixes?
@spaceboyctstudios2934 nothing but for a new game you can expect new tracks right?
Yeah, sorry, I’m not buying it. With Xbox’s track record, you’d more easily convince me they straight up just hate mascot platformers. They bought Rare, the kings of mascot platformers, just to sit on all their IP’s for a decade and force them to make Kinect shovelware. I don’t believe that company would suddenly turn around and become a haven for the genre.
Ah yes, that's why we absolutely got crash 5 and why it absolutely did not get canceled :)
Same for Spyro 4…?
Microsoft didn’t cancel crash 5 crash 5 was canned before the acquisition
Xbox hasn't released a half decent game this gen, I have zero confidence in them.
And one they did (hi fi rush) they fired the entire dev team so no sequel
Psychonauts 2 ?
Right now as we speak I will only view Microsoft as a remaster and Ip collections firm, they haven't made a new game that wasn't a remaster in over a decade
...they buy ips and shut down studios because the money that was going to those studios goes to the profits for the investors and the shareholders to see...
Man this video is just a whole bunch of nothing, you are not making any points regarding how or why Xbox can become the house of platformers outside of pointing out that they have a bunch of IPs that they can use but decide not to(IPs they have had for years and still didn’t do anything with them, so why would they start now?)
Which wow what a discovery, it’s not like we haven’t known this for years.
till minute 16 this video is just a quick recap of Xbox history and history of platformers, nothing here, this just screams burnout, washed out, like you don’t even know where to take this channel anymore, and you are just shilling for Microsoft to see if they can throw you something

Xbox is The RETIREMENT HOME for Mascot Platformers. ;3
A cemetery
You know Xbox, they’ll own an IP to do nothing with and sit on.
All for the Monopoly
The home of mascot platformers?, sure!. But mostly as:
"Retirement Home for Forgotten Mascots".
A subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation.
😂
16:38 wow Crash Bandicoot is on Game Pass who cares.
let's Make a video about it
The home for dead platformers
There's something to be said for the Japanese philosophy of growing from within, to build a company culture and expand through your own success. But when it comes to companies like Microsoft they just think they can throw their money around and buy everyone up. They should not have a monopoly over entire genres of games, this destroys creativity which is not good for gamers.
This is the same dude who probably hyped up stalker 2 talking about how it’s soooo good and now no one’s even talking about 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Xbox doesn’t like good games. How they treated hi fi rush is proof of that
So as a 3D platformer fan, should I pay for Game Pass on a hunch??? Just because they have a lot of IPs doesn't mean they'll do anything other than expand the catalog. I'd have to see it to believe it, but those recent purchases haven't yielded much fruit as now. Xbox barely knows what to do with its AAA games, I doubt they'll even think about doing anything with its 3D platformers.
Now this is some serious lethal levels of Scrimblo Blimbo cope I haven't seen in months.
Rare is different then the rare from 2000. The most devs are working on yooka laylee now
@Sneaky_racoon_sly atleast If Nintendo required Rare; they do more with the rare ip's then what Microsoft/Xbox ever done with them.
@@bendyfan-yd1ez Idk they have a library themselves of games they don't work on as well like Star Fox and F-Zero
Xbox? Make games? Tell me another one.
How about exclusives, period? Nope, Halo and Starfield are coming to Switch 2
@dougtheghoul2845 So we're just console warring.. Why?
Do you wish for Crash and Spyro to locked down? What value is that to that IPs audience?.. Are you mad you don't get to list war with others instead of people being able to enjoy gaming?

Banjo Kazooie has been something Microsoft has wanted, but Rareware have been dragging their feet in wanting to decide. Hopefully Astrobot's success is the writing on the wall to make people realize that 3D platformers are still loved by everyone.
And if people still don't believe that 3D Platformers are profitable... Then why is Mario and Sonic are still pumping out games? It's not the game, the mascot, the premise, but indecisiveness from the top that choose to stick the "safe route" even though the safe route [being live services] is going to slowly hemorrhage their profits.....

Fossil Fighters Frontier is the Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts of Fossil Fighters.

With 500 million monthly active users and billions invested into making Xbox a platform beyond just a console. No.. Xbox is about to become the Windows of gaming itself.
Yes ,EX box
@PhantomDeth no one gives a sht xbot

"join the ecosistem of dead games, mistrusts, purly made halos ,and awful fanbase "
@SimeJoja yep.
I wish.
18:06 cant wait for FTC to desrtoy Xbox monopoly
All I hope is that they handle them better than Ubisoft.
Doubt it
One can dream.
Still waiting for Crash Team Rumble on Switch.
Sorry , xbox canceled the seasons and updates leaveing rumble to rot so no switch port
@ I know, but I’m still waiting. And I will wait for all eternity.
Love your videos and your content
Hey Mr.CGE love your videos, streams, and content. I Wish Spyro 4 Comes to Nintendo SWITCH as well as Crash Bandicoot 5 For Nintendo SWITCH.
I am working on a massive 3d platformer that will (not) change history
to think that we could have gotten a better bango game than nuts and bolts if nintendo bought rare instead
Why buy a Steam or PlayStation version when that's possible?
xbox is the place games go to die after being bought by microsoft =.=
The cemetery
Love wacked Game too. I have them - banjo and kazooie - i have most of the games mentioned here. I love both systems -😊
I hope they realise that and start hiring great platformer games developers and make new games.
Double fine, toys for bob and beenox are good but we need banjo and other great characters to come back.
Great video as always man ❤
Microsoft please bring back Skylanders

Will there be a spyro 4? Day 3 of asking?
You know if something bad would happen to Canada and i can only save one Canadian i would save you
So is Xbox having gigantic plans for these platformer IPs?
No
We’ll see not sure If Xbox is interested in Bringing 3D Platformers too Xbox.
My probelm with microsoft is that they buying every good game and killing it.
I dont see buying big stedius is the right move for xbox
Eventually there will be no more Xbox, period
Its for the Monopoly,so other drvs and publishers have to pay them to bring back that game
Spyro 4 would be the perfect platformer for the next Xbox Console. Toys for Bob is still working on an unannounced upcoming game which is Spyro 4.
Spyro 4 exlusive on xbox? Oh FTC ,time to wreck xbox
@@SimeJoja lol You silly
Hope it will be available on Steam, I don't want to bother to buy a Xbox just for Spyro
@@silversky3067 I mean Xbox owns Spyro so they would make it exclusive but idk cuz I can’t really think of a time where Xbox exclusively releases their games on their console and not on all platforms on launch day.
i just want one of these new titles
psychonauts 3 or the first one remaked
spyro 4
crash 5
Please bring back banjo kazooie 😢❤
sony been having woke failure after failure the only exclusives Playstation has on PS5 was Ratchet and Clank Rift apart (2nd party) and Astro Bot(1st part). And i feel sony going fully 3rd party too. With no competition with nintendo nintendo will become more shellfish and more greedy. Microsoft need come out and say that no need for Xbox consoles anymore same with sony in the future
Ratchet and Clank are not second party
411th like and 161st comment Canadianguyeh crash the bandicoot
Just make ctr 2 with guest characters banjo and conker then watch the millions come rolling in 😂
Then what is nitro kart?
