Versailles...!!! The very first Japanese metal band which opened my eyes for this genre.. Yuuki is really talented drummer, and don't forget about the best duo Hizaki and Teru, super charismatic voice from Kamijo, and amazing bass play Masashi.. This band was on hiatus in 2012 due their individual project (Kamijo with his solo career, other 4 members made a new band with new vocalist in Jupiter, and Hizaki solo project), but in 2015 they come back with new album.. Next is their 16 minutes masterpiece "Faith and Decision", please... Ps. All of the member are guys 😂😂😂
Hizaki and Teru.. the guitarists (they are ALL males in this band :-9 ) have another project with another singer called Jupiter.. Check out the song Zeus- A legend never die. By the way the clothing style is called Visual Kei ( I think)
Thanks for checking them out! Versailles are my favorite band of all time. I grew up on classic thrash and TOOL among others...until I found Versailles about 10 years ago--totally changed the way I looked at playing guitar and writing songs. Their live shows are indeed a theatrical performance and you hit the nail on the head with the French Rococo/Versailles palace theme--though everything is with a pretty-boy vampire theme and most of their lyrics have some vampire theme. They are actually one of the earlier Visual Kei bands, hence the elaborate costumes, but if you look past that, they are one of the best Neo-Classical bands out there, so you're pretty accurate with the Vivaldi sound. As a matter of fact, Hizaki (dude in the dress) has cover version of Vivaldi's "Summer" from the Four Seasons, called "Presto" on one of his solo albums. Recommend checking out "Aristocrat's Symphony," "Silent Knight," "Rose" or Hizaki's solo piece, "Race Wish"
This recording is not one of the best live recordings of theirs. But yes there is a lot of talent in this band, Hizaki who focuses on getting the most out of every note he plays. Teru is very good at speedy solos. And Masashi ("new" bassist, replacing Jasmine You RIP ), who does not get much of a spotlight in this performance, but has solo pieces in other songs (such as Faith and decision (song dedicated to Jasmine You after he passed) and Masquerade ). Apart from the drummer that you already acknowledged. The thing about Versailles is that Kamjio is a vampire and the band members are his poesy, and from that they came up with the Lestat type vampire look, and this fit's Hizaki's more classical compositions very well.
I'd highly recommend the songs Masquerade or Faith and Decision, both live from the Holy Grail live concert, since the latest version of the latter sounds way worse than in that concert, in my humble opinion
