Regular Angels Envy Bourbon is by far my favorite bourbon. When checking a bars stock of whiskey, and I'm in the mood for Bourbon, Angels is it for me. So last year at the office holiday party, we're at a very high end bar in South Pasadena. I see the Angels bottle on the bar and order. The first sip I realized this wasn't bourbon but it was the best whiskey I'd tasted to this point in my Whiskey journey. Bartender showed me the bottle - Finished Rye! So I set out the very next day to get a bottle of my own and find it a very rare bottle to find. In fact my local Bev Mo say they only get a bottle or 2 a year! So I stay persistent and get my chance to buy a bottle and wtf? It's over $85! I had to buy it, but with momma don't know money, if you know what that is! I have one small pour to start the night, then move to what ever else strikes my fancy. Thanks for doing this episode. Cheers!

I tried the trifecta at a bar in Colorado. Cost me 40$ for three shots and it was worth every single penny. Damn shame you can't buy Angel's Envy anywhere outside of the US.

Hey guys, I really love the show!!
I'm a huge fan of you two (yes both of you! (Of course a tiny little bit more of rex))
I have been watching for the last few weeks (67 to go and I have seen them all)
(I'm from the Netherlands and my English isn't that great, but I give it a go..(thank god for Google translate))
A year ago I started drinking whisky (at least I tried),
I bought a bottle Jack Daniels.
    I didn't like it!!
When I finely killed the bottle i thought This is nothing for me...
But a while later I heard a little voice saying to try it again.
    So I bought a Jameson.
    That's when the problem started!
That was I guess 5 months ago
The bottle didn't take as long to become empty as the Jack. (After that it never did)
    Than came;
    The Famous Grouse
    The Famous Grouse Mellow Gold
    The Famous Grouse Smoky Black
    Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition
    Jim Bean Honey
    Chives Regal 12
    Johnnie Walker Red and Black
    Talisker Skye
    Aberfeldy 12
    Frysk Hynder (Dutch whisky)
And some other whisky's I mooched from my dad
    And last week I bought;
    Elijah Craig small batch
    Buffalo Trace
    Bulleit Rye
By the way.. Elijah Craig is already all most empty..
I think the heater is set to high, the whisky evaporates in the bottle!
And have you seen my money?? I can't find it, I think I lost it..
    Cheers!!!

It's interesting you bring up rum. Really good, aged rums are reminiscent of scotches or other aged whiskies, but definitely sweeter and syrupier. I just got back from Cuba anbrought back a bottle of Santiago de Cuba 12. COULD NOT RECCOMEND IT MORE. Legend is its the orginal Bacardi family recipe before they left Cuba. Any way, there are notes of rye in this rum, which is nothing I have experinced from a rum before. Some other good one's I could recomend are Mount Gay 1703, Havana Club Maetros, and, as you mentioned, Ron Zacaba. Really any rum with an age statement is a game changer if you only know rum as Bacardi Gold.

  • @satmdobbs1843

If you like rum, I'd highly recommend El Dorado 12 or 15, Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, and Flor de Caña 12 or 18. Diplomatico is my current favorite.

When you are talking about the Angels Envy cask strength it reminds me of one of my favorite M*A*S*H-quotes. After a particularly grueling day, colonel Potter gives Radar a whisky and says: "This is Kentucky whisky. But be careful; it's got a boomerang effect!". Personaly I think that this statement fits with a lot of cask-strength's as some are so complex and challenging that it feels like they are fighting your mouth with intent of claiming it as its own.

Go but a Mexican version of a hungry man microwave dinner, cook it 15 minutes longer than you need to so that everything gets flavorless and turns to rubber. Boom... I've had the regulars Jim, jack, Johny, crown, along with some others but am gonna try more. Bought wild turkey not too long ago and was good. Recent purchase was a 20yr old Alberta rye (I'm Canadian) called Ninety. Next purchase will probably be tomatin. Just bought my first glencairn glasses which btw would've definitely bought yours if you had them. Anyways the collection shall hence grow due to you fine sirs. I'll go back and watch more videos for recommendations. Good luck on your other channel and all your future endeavours. Cheers!

    Hi tribe.
For the Australian viewers, can you suggest to myself and Rex / daniel, and really good Australia made whiskey or bourbon. Because I would like to see it. For Rex and daniel, I wish I can donate a bottle or 2 of Australian made whiskey or bourbon, but for some crazy reason, you can’t send alcohol in the post to the USA. Unless I really want a US$20,000 fine and a felony against my name. If you ever come to sydney Australia, I would be more then happy to take you to a place that I know of, where you can get some stuff.

    Hi guys,
I came here a few months ago and you've got me hooked,
However as a youth I did stupid things with whiskey and now I can't drink the stuff
With out the thought of dread and bad things turning my stomach and as a result I don't really get
Any flavours from whiskey apart from said dread and bad things.
I do like rum though would the rye be a good start point to get myself into whiskey?
Why am I on a whiskey reviewing page you may ask,
Well I came here for the Somme and the expert reviews on the whiskey we have in the bar
I work at, I stayed because you are some magnificent bastards 😆.
I do like whiskey in cocktails so it isn't a complete turn off for me
If that helps with previous question,
I would love to sip my take on an espresso martini
With whiskey instead of vodka with you guys to see what you thought 🤔

Hey guys! Big fan from Norway here, I've been watching since Daniel made the episode with The Modern Rogue and I have tried a couple of whiskeys, my favorite so far being Glenfiddich 15. I also found out that smokey whiskeys are a bit hard for me on the taste, even though the smell is incredible, but I really like Talisker 10, my question is if there is another smokey whiskey such as Talisker, something smokey but not too much if that makes any sense.
Lots of love, keep up the good work.

Still enjoying the dynamic between you guys. A rum vault would not be a bad idea, but there isnt enough quality rum coming out of central america to justify a whole shelf, let alone a whole vault

Ok I have to ask, how many tribesmen also love Rum? There seems to be a lot of mentions about a rum vault. I too, being a land locked pirate love that special Caribbean potion!!! And have three times more rum to my whiskey

Diggin' the channel guys. I just read the AE Rye is finished in Plantation XO barrels. That rum is their 10-20 yr blend that's finished in Pierre Ferrand cognac barrels and it is fantastic! Plantation Rum is also produced by Ferrand. The P.F. cognacs are also excellent! The problem I have with buying a bottle of the $80+ AE Rye is, the Plantation XO is around $50 and the P.F. Ambre cognac is around $40. So, does finishing a basic MGP 6 yr Rye in these barrels rationalize the hefty price? Cheers!

skipsterz you’ve done your research. It’s MGP (not sure when they will start selling what hey distill in LouisvilleKy). Pricey ... I guess they have gone the “nike “ rout

badDeath Thanatos, cameras aren't the problem. Spending the additional time to ingest and sync the footage is blah.

I just got my hands on The Hibiki Harmony Master's Select. I was wondering if you've ever tried it? I have the regular Hibiki Harmony also, but have yet to try it. I managed to get it for $49 and the Master's Select for $64 living in Okinawa, Japan. I am excited to try them both and compare the two. Not sure what I'll be able to find in the Master's Select, but your video on the regular Harmony should help me when tasting that one.

Are there any Japanese whiskeys that might be easier to track down in Okinawa than here in the states? I have a friend that just got stationed there recently, and I'm pretty sure I could convince him to pick some stuff up for me. And if I can't, I can get his mom to make him do it - I just shared a bottle of Hibiki Harmony with her this past weekend over cards. I found it in a grocery's liquor store of all places, AND made them price adjust it to MSRP.

    • @ex3670
      @ex3670 6 років тому

not sure. I never went looking for whiskey in the states, but if there is something that you can't find I would recommend just asking your friend

I need help identifying a whisky, my friend said that he was at a party once and a generous guy ordered three bottles of whisky for a total of $300-350. He says the label on the bottle was black and gold, and the bottle itself was clear glass. He doesn't like whisky very much but said that it had a minty finish.

Last year as a wedding present had received a bottle of Octomore from a close family friend who knew I loved whiskey. The bottle I have came
in black, and says it was aged for 5 years. Probably one of the smokiest whiskies I’ve ever had. What is the difference between the black bottle and the white that I saw reviewed on your channel?

I just want to say iv been watching your show and drinking whisky(properly) for the last 2 months and i starter with the aberlour 12 and the glenlivet founders but today i wanted to try my first peated and decided to go with the lagavulin 16 which i immediately fell in love with, but my question is what would be a good step up from there to get that smokey taste that i know crave in a scotch
