Seeing Stormtroopers literally everywhere except Mimban really detracts from the "elite" aspect for me. Not to mention theyre treated like cannon fodder.
I mean, in the movies at least, we mostly only see Storm troopers in major military engagements or extremely important installations such as the Death Star and related facilities, Hoth and the Tantive IV, the only one that might not mesh would be their appearance on Tatooine, but given the active hunt for the Death Star plans, they might *not* have been a garrison force
@@michaelangelomaimone3181 Yeah the guys on Tatooine aren't a garrison. It's a Hutt planet in the Outer Rim, they have no interest in it aside from the Death Star plans.
Only in newer material, like Rebels, Mandalorian, Bad Batch etc. In the movies they're always at places that are incredibly important, or directly accompanying someone high up like Vader.
@@LordVader1094 I’d dissent for the Mandalorian. It’s all imperial holdouts and remnants. The storm troopers were not just the elite troopers, they were also picked for unwavering loyalty to the empire, so many of them probably latched onto their chain of command as best they could and fought for the highest ranking officer they could reach. As best I can tell, they’re all still hanging onto high ranking imperial officers, installations, and other key points of interest. So it actually works out for me (their lackluster performances notwithstanding, but that might be able to be chalked up to gear in poor condition from a lack of steady supply for ~4 years) even on the gozanti although I’d have switched out a few more of them for naval officers and crew. As for the bad batch, they’re still mostly using clone troopers because that’s what they’ve got and the elite status has yet to be earned for the non clone personnel. You’ve got me on rebels though… that’s dang near unforgivable in some cases, although even then they’re usually in hot spots of rebellion like lothal which could use some extra capable manpower or as parts of a major campaign or attached to higher ranking officers (again, lackluster performance notwithstanding). It’s not that their usage seems too terribly off it’s that their performance doesn’t stack up (although they even dumbed down Thrawn and the death troopers for Rebels so don’t necessarily cut them slack but maybe just accept that it was a sub par performance from the Disney run imperials all around)
If you go off the lore then Stormtroopers are like the US Marines. They are a crack infantry force used for guarding bases, defending ships, and rapid assults.
A few seconds later Hunter finds out sometimes numbers can matter when those new TK troopers let by there Clone Commando trainer basically cuts them off from escape.
It's kind of obvious who is superior. The Clones fought in one of the biggest wars in history against deadly battle droids, numerous bounty hunters, all kinds of dangerous monsters and even Sith and Dark Jedi. Stormtroopers mostly dealt simply with uprisings from civilians on different planets and a semi disorganized resistance.
Considering clone troopers were designed to have combat capabilities slightly or perhaps even sometimes on par to their original donor a.k.a. the former legendary bounty hunter jango fett, saying they aren't even the best soldiers in the galaxy would be a dishonor to the fett name and legacy which is also part of mandalorian legacy, so to compare them with the least capable storm troopers of random origins armed with only the most basic of training with the least team coordination since they aren't clones and they can't always tell what the other is thinking all of the time would be even more insulting, also counterpoint said clone troopers after having done the funny order were given the choice to join the empire and so when some of them did they were given higher positions most of the time leading even the lowly storm troopers that we are currently comparing to
I've always said the Clones were designed to fight in a war while the Stormtroopers were inteded to be and acted more like a galaxy wide police force than a frontline army.
@@PelinalDidNothingWrong the storm troopers were absolutely garbage at peace keeping, unless the planet was under complete imperial control the populace is constantly aggravated by their presence. The clones on the other hand, and ironically, more empathetic than the stormtroopers by far. It would have done alot more to Palpatines plans If instead of throwing them out in the cold but put them in positions all of the imperial controlled worlds as local police forces, their combat and leadership experience could easily sway public opinion and keep more rebellious areas under control, it was a total waste because they could be easily useful for longer time outside the military.
@@PelinalDidNothingWrong Speaking of Stormtroopers here's a quote from Rex in Rebels, "This helmet, I can't see!" Throws helmet at stormtrooper and takes him down some police force they were..
I dunno, the Stormtroopers seemed to do a lot better against the Rebels than the Clones did against the CIS. The difference in success rates is even sharper when you consider that the Rebels knew how to set up and take advantage of defensive positions, and the B1 battle droid isn't exactly a Terminator.
difference is the cid just send out hordes of bots and designed weapons expressly to kill organic matter No matter how skilled you are poking your head into a barrage of live ammunition
@@tba113 The CIS was a massive military complex that could output 5 battle droids for every 1 destroyed. The Rebel Alliance on the other hand was volunteers and imperial deserters who couldn't afford to lose any military assets including manpower. The GAR did well enough against a force that could overwhelm them with sheer numbers while the Stormtroopers basically fired at fish in a barrel most of the time. It's a bad comparison to make since their enemies were vastly different and I doubt the Stormtroopers would have done well against the CIS since they had to rely on other branches of the Imperial Military for simple ground support, but I also doubt the GAR would have done well against the rebels since it has been shown that no army can hold a position forever if the civilian populace is against them.
I think I finally realized why I like the Phase 1 helmets so much. I’ve always had a fondness for medieval knights, and the shape of the Phase 1 helmets look very similar to those kind of helmets, at least to me. I can’t believe I never noticed this before! It took me twenty years to realize this!
They are very 50's Sci-Fi inspired. I really like both versions; but I think I like the phase 1 version just a bit more. I think my favorite is the Sith troopers from the First Order though, they just look very intimidating and I love the red.
A year ago, Geetsly's done a video comparing the Republic troopers during the Great Galactic War to Clone troopers. Now, Generation Tech did a video that compare Stormtroopers to the Clone troopers. So who will be the next one to do a video to compare the Stormtroopers to the Republic troopers of the Old Republic during the Great Galactic War?
I mean the Clone Army was designed to kill the Jedi, what it accomplished on the battlefield was a secondary concern. The Stormtrooper Corps didn't need to be as lethal on an individual basis because they didn't have to kill ninja space wizards.
The GAR Clones were a utilitarian military force because they were designed for direct combat in mind. While the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps was more of a light infantry force intended as part of a glorified peacekeeping unit for what was basically an occupational authority for a strict police state that wasn't expecting to fight organized forms of resistance since they figured that not many would be willing to stand against the Empire as much as the Rebellion did. So, yeah it's pretty obvious which of the two is more superior.
It should also be noted that Palpatine probably knew their would be a chance, small but possible considering hes pulling the strings, that clones would not be enough and mass recruitment may be necessary to complete his agenda. Because the clones were trained at every field they were the perfect backbone if the GAR had to restructure itself during the clonewars. Palpatine was methodical enough during this period to plan for that, but imperial Era Palpatine has just gone complacent with his clean sweep of the galaxy.
This is directly false when you consider the numerous wars the Empire had to fight in the early years to stamp out any resistance, plus mopping up Separatists. Stormtroopers were always an elite fighting force, only marginally inferior to clones and able to be trained without the cost of growing them for a decade beforehand.
@@LordVader1094 do you know how much goes into a storm trooper?? The training alone is not the issue it's all the support staff that is shoved into them. You have to have brainwashed and political officers to enforce the ideology, transportation costs to pull the literally handpicked cadets to, I believe it's anaxes where the actual black site for stormtrooper training is held. The ISB agents to monitor every, single, stormtrooper coms for any tidbit of individuality, not to mention the ISB agents to monitor the agents to insure they do their jobs cause Palpatine is crazy about that. Also the handpicked cadets probably have a high wash out rate in training due to the borderline insane, if not well in, standards pressed on them, which is probably resources lost. All in all, the stormtrooper probably cost as much as clone overall due to the above reasons, because resources required to recruit, train, and "maintaining" them are going to be immense. If it was the imperial army you would have a definite point as the demands are, in training and indoctrination, is alot lower than the average stormtrooper.
@@LordVader1094 oh about my previous statement, I meant it as during the clonewars not after. even playing both sides, the clones were always outnumbered and In some cases undersupplied. If the war turned out to go for the CIS despite Palpatines planning, he may have been forced to recruit the civilian populace earlier than expected and thus the clones, who spent many years training in every position. Would be needed to train and lead them.
Possibly but that would require someone who is knowledgible on gene engineering and frankly the only ones that would be capapble of that would have been the Kaminoan cloners since they would know how they modified the Clones to age quickly along with knowing the DNA of the clones.
In Legends, they identified the genes responsible for the accelerated aging, but only a small number of clones were given "normal" lifespans as a result. Those were the Skirata bunch and a few ARC troopers. Phase Zero Dark Troopers from Legends were an attempt to keep aging clones in fighting shape for as long as possible, but I'm not sure if it extended their lifespan. In current canon, neither the Empire nor the Rebellion were interested in prolonging clone lives; the Imperials wanted to switch to regular humans anyway, and the Rebels had no knowledge or tech that could remotely help. The Empire has the tech and knowledge to pull it off, but so far all they've done is increase the effectiveness of a clone's inhibitor chip.
Very good points raised. Clone Troopers and Stormtroopers are both good, but I do favor the Clones. As Alan said the Stormtrooper Corp was a Police Force not properly prepared for front line fighting. The Clone Trooper Corp were trained for front line battle using combined arms tactics. Thus was the superior military force.
Stormtroopers were also trained for front line fighting. How do people get this so wrong, including GenTech? You literally see them fighting on the front lines in Solo and numerous other media.
Clones and stormtroopers served different purposes. One was a warfighter and the other was an armored peacekeeper. I’d say they could have kept the clone special forces division going since it was still one of the best units they could want in peace or war time, they could just reduce the class sizes to a few dozen every year 5 to ten years instead of every year and use natural born folks to supplement the mission requirements to share the mission load. Clones were still better. As always. More credits, bigger bang.
Only slightly. You can achieve pretty much the same results as clone troopers in real life for a lot less money with humans right now, let alone when you have a galactic pool to pull from and clone instructors to train them.
@@LordVader1094 if u mean in star wars universe yes. if u mean real life no lol. we dont even compare to clones, droids, rebels, and etc. and are equipments are much weaker than theirs lol.
In 19BBY, Jango Fett Clones made up 99% of the Republic and later Imperial military with the only outliers being admirals and commanding officers as well as Jedi, the Senate Guard, and Planetary Militias. By 0BBY l, Jango Fett Clones were already mostly replaced in the Storm Trooper Core as well as the Imperial Navy only making up about 10% of the Imperial military at the time, only a small fraction of their former glory as Imperial recruits soon outnumbered them in most low level and high level positions, leaving the remaining 10% mostly being the last generation of Clones who were babies in the Bad Batch season 1 moved to other facilities to be raised as well as veterans of the Clone Wars being a minority of officers with some remaining in the Storm Trooper core, but by then most had either died or had been retired, Clones were a minority in the military they once dominated. By 3 ABY only 2% of the Imperial military was made up of Jango Fett clones, most of which were officers as the vast majority of the remaining ones in the Storm Trooper core that were the last batch aged out of service in between episode 4 and 6 as well as many dying in the first and then second Death Star as well as in massive fleet battles against the rebels. Forced retirement was enforced on many as they were seen as too old and a massive recruitment campaign began around the time shortly after episode 4 where the Empire was aware of the growing rebel threat and mass defections so they began to recruit even more non clones than before. The Battle of Jakku was the final straw in which most of the remaining Imperial Clones either defected or died in the horrors of the battle.
The main reason for the switch from clones to stormtroopers was palpy wanted high intelligence dangerous assassins for jedi murder, a gang in a city doesn't need hyper lethal squads just throw meat into the grinder. Also, paying the cloners enough to buy a galaxy occupying army would make them too powerful, and they'd probably put in another subliminal order to kill empire assets if that payment ever stopped. Then the real leaders would be the cloners not Palpatine and he wasn't that stupid.
Also the cost vs difference in efficiency being minimal. Regular humans can be trained up to an incredibly high level of skill, just look at real life. Especially when you have a galactic pool to pull from. You can train clones to be purely bred for war, but that's 10 years for each clone that you're paying for growing and feeding them before you can use them when you could just spend that time training regular born human adults. The difference is skill is small while the cost is far, far higher for clones.
Thoughts from a actual US ARMY Infantryman I was in Iraq when the movie revenge of the sith came out I served in a US Army Infantry company 11Bravo we did our regular patrols and route clearance Cordon searches and my favorite night time dismounted patrols and setting up Anti IED emplacement ambushes. We got a copy of Star wars revenge of the sith from the haji Mart a boot leg seller of movies and other trinkets we could could buy from sellers on the FOB I remember pulling tower guard one night with a buddy of mine and we got into a discussion of what would happen if we were all of a sudden attacked by a waive of clone troopers. It really boiled down to weather or not they we were up against Hollywood actors in costumes or actual real life clone troopers whether or not we could take them out. if they were actual clone Troopers Not a Chance as our main weapon was a M240 Bravo machine gun and a 203 40 mm grenade launcher
I sometimes wonder if Sidious said to himself "You know, maybe I shouldn't have gotten rid of those clones." xD Sure they were a pain in the ass to create and expensive, but they were world's above stormtroopers in terms of combat and accuracy.
Funnily enough, one of my settings has a minimum training period of... 1 year. Combat training isn't the longest part of the training either (the standard course could be done in _three months_ at most, though specialists like medics, vehicle crews, and the like require at least one month of extra training), but other things including _memetic_ training, i.e. the various courses to train soldiers to be at _least_ resistant to memetic weapons (this takes _four_ months at the minimum). To give you an idea on how powerful these weapons are, they can turn people traitor, cause blue-on-blue incidents, cause desertion, among other significant problems for a military, and this training is designed to minimize their effectiveness...
Interesting detail that the Imperial leadership saw how individual and humane the Clones became when they were SUPPOSED to just be numbers who followed orders, and specifically trained the Stormtroopers not to fraternize with each other like comrades to avoid such things. They couldn't easily brain chip the stormtroopers...or could they? And honestly I wonder if Palpatine ever tried to implant such chips in recruits
Thanks for making that distinction between Clone Troopers and the Storm Troopers. I always thought they were the same except that the Clone Troopers were copies of one person.
Haven't watched the rest of the video yet. But I did want to make a comment, after watching the intro. Correct me, if I am wrong, but I thought the Stormtrooper corps was more so a specialized reactive force? I thought the main occupation force and infantry component of the Empire was the Imperial Army? I am excited to see the rest of this comparison though!
Another good reason why a clone army is better than regular human armies. The one fielding a clone army doesn't have to pay them, or worry about offering retention incentives - let alone consider about comfort for these troopers. Clones are the ideal expendable fighting force
Maybe that's because the Empire wanted to recruit more humans from the general population as part of a public relations thing. But yeah, I can see your point.
no clones are way more expensive, you have to bred them, raise them ,then they have actually use and they arent leagues better than stormtroopers. the ones who we see in TCW are usually special clones who survived many battles ,thats like comparing a combat Veteran to a freshmen of course the Veteran looks better and their ridiculous 10 years of training makes them not better than stormtroopers in the slightest . the only ones who are way better are commandos or arcs aka special forces
Even the most basic clone trooper was leaps and bounds beyond Stormtroopers and the price tag reflects that. In fact I would say that in order for the clones to be defeated by the Stormtroopers the clones would have to be grossly outnumbered.
@@laisphinto6372 even then, one can cut cost of designing these clones and equipping them by simply giving them the most rudimentary of training and baseline traits that can ensure the overall operational goals are met. the issue however may be maintenance of any potential damaged units, that's where upkeep may increase, medicine of any form is no doubt expensive. So maybe there ought to be contingencies made to account for critically damaged troopers that are no longer fit for continuous operations.
@@corymccarty8603 ok show me this crazy stunts of regular rank in file cloens that were so badass that can beat up so many enemies at once, because other than B1s any other droid, bounty hunter and unarmed jedi beats them just as easily as stormtroopers. if you disregard the elite Status of stormtroopers and look only on their perfomance then you have to look at clones that get tossed in full armor by padawans with no lightsaber, getting manhandled by bounty hunters and getting shot after punching a B1. they only look good because they got a hold of that sweet sweet plot armor juice otherwise they die like flies in TCW
So I know a few people did version of what if Earth was in the Star wars. But I would think it be cool if someone did what if our troops were in the clone wars but was using the Gear in Star wars.
By the time the First Order was running wild, apparently some stormtroopers were cleaning toilets. I don't recall any healthy but disillusioned Clone Troopers being assigned to janitorial duties. Hell, 99 was malformed and not actually counted among the clone troopers during his life. I'd still pick him in a fight over Finn though.
I've enjoyed Star Wars ever since the first couple seasons of SWTCW after that I watched all the movies, Though it's pretty disappointing that as time goes on the Stormtroopers seem to have less sentience than Battle Droids. We know Clone Troopers have to be objectively superior but it would be nice to see how the Stormtroopers compare themselves to Clones in a Live-Action or Animated adaptation hopefully we'll see it in the Bad Batch.
Well in current lore they have defiently shown that clones are far superior. Not only better trained, but better equipped. Frankly the fact the clones were trained from birth and designed to take orders makes the army more consistent and lones la k outside problems like families their entire existence is devoted to military. Always loyal. They may be more expensive but the results speak for themselves. Average storm trooper gets their ass handed to them by every random smuggler who fights them. One was built for war, intimatemidation/terror. Frankly in a head to head I'd say clones army is more then a match for the empire s war machine in most battles.
I need some help from the community. Given the fact that during the clone wars both sides were ultimately controlled by the same guy, as how "accurate" can we judge the performance of the GRA? I don't have a good grasp to what level palpatine had control over everything. Was it more like the general, broad direction of the war or was he micromanaging and playing chess with himself?
It really depended on the battle. Palpatine (at least in legends) created the 501st legion to allow him to get stuff done behind the Jedi’s back. He basically moved some key pieces around and went with what he got.
I think I'm general he made sure that certain key battles that needed to be won by either side were almost guaranteed. Be it through leaking information to the opposite side or supplying the side with some new type of weapon or asset. He made sure that war would go exactly as he envisioned.
You literally see the clones miss point blank shots at huge, slowly moving targets like B2 battle droids in the 2008 Clone Wars show. Clone troopers being better trained is purely an informed ability in canon, not really backed up by visual media. You're told they're better, but not shown they're better. Ironically it goes the other way for stormtroopers. You see them kick ass in the movies, and only miss when told, but recent shows have tried to inform you that they're less skilled than clones and are glorified meat shields. In reality, stormtroopers weren't quite as skilled as clones, but weren't far behind at all due to peak physical human training and having clone instructors.
@@LordVader1094 The problem is that clones are an overrated force in the sense that the community only analise them using the lore and not their screen performance while also ignoring their problems (being so outnumbered and far more expensive). Meanwhile the stormtroopers are only analyzed with their screen performance and never with their lore. Obviously clones are alway better in those extremely biased comparisons.
Yet again we can see how shallow Tarkin's vision for the Empire was. We even see during Bad Batch that Tarkin was quick to replace the Clones with regular humans and within 10 years the entire army has phased the Clones out, with the Stormtroopers in their OT armor and not the prototype armor seen in Bad Batch. You even see durring the show they burned away any chance to reconsider by destroying the entire Kamino Cloning Facilitie's.
Yes actually they do. You just don't see them a lot in the films and shows because storm troopers are meant to be the expendable bad guy goons not an efficient military force capable of controlling the galaxy.
we saw in the OT sand and snow troopers and scout troopers. they had also nova troopers, storm commandos ,blackhole troopers, space troopers, dark troopers, imperial commandos and many many more.
This shouldn’t even be a question. Clones were trained from literal birth to be combat units, their entire education and rearing from the beginning was about fighting and combat. Enlisted Stormtroopers can’t match that, no matter how hard they try.
Stormtroopers come pretty damn close, though. And are a hell of a lot less expensive considering you don't need to raise and feed them for 10 years before being able to deploy them in combat.
@@LordVader1094 never said they weren’t. Just that this was an open and shut case about which one is the superior warrior. The clones are superior to enlisted troops. They always will be. It’s the same principal as the Spartans, when u train from birth for nothing other than war, u will exceed others at war.
You have to remember that the "elite" stormtrooper Corp are primarily conditioned to serve Palpatine absolutely and nothing else. Clones are expensive, but turning out an army of unquestionably loyal soldiers takes just about as much money and labor. You have constant ideology testing, regular brainwashing services, selection processes, transportation (because they are not coming out of one planet), ISB monitoring services, the monitoring service that monitors the monitors, and the list might just go on further. My point is that stormtroopers are not even worth the pound for pound to a clone, and I believe that they cost just as much due to the above maintenance costs. Stormtroopers are trained at nothing but being loyal to Palpatine and by extension the empire, combat ability was not a factor because if it came to that the tarkin doctrine takes over and orbital bombardment begins as it usually does.
>but turning out an army of unquestionably loyal soldiers takes just about as much money and labor. It's really not. Raising clones for 10 years for EVERY soldier, feeding and housing them the entire time before you can use them, is far more expensive than simply training adult humans and getting them to the peak of physical skill and ability. Which is quite high if you look at real life. Furthermore, the stormtroopers in both canon and Legends are stated to be extremely well skilled and trained, only marginally inferior to clones for far less cost. The only things that try to contradict this is Rebels (a kids show) and to a lesser degree Bad Batch/Mandalorian. Your entire premise that stormtroopers cost just as much as clones is completely false, both logically and in-universe, and every source available.
@@LordVader1094 but over their the course of their career they will cost as much due to the severe amount of the above support services. Do you think monitoring equipment and personnel is cheap? How about through the fricken galaxy. The ISB is not cheap either and having a literal army just to watch another army is another major line item in their overall cost. They use a secret black site on a core world to train them, the stuff in rebels are just the selection training camps to select the best to imported to said black site. Speaking of rebels if the junior camps are cannon then they have been training almost as long, and mentally conditioned as well, for almost as long as a clone as well. Even if they start at age 10 and 16 is considered fighting age in starwars, 6 years is still a long time and the empire has shoulder those costs, try convincing parents who are wageslaves to pay for their son to become a stormtrooper and basically vanish from existence by adulthood, fastest way to make even more rebels.
People usually underestimate Storm Troopers, remember that the stormtroopers were just as trained as clones. They fought alongside the most powerful character in Star Wars Darth Vader and fought battles as often as clones. I think Storm Troopers fought more brutal battles in more brutal conditions, Battle of Mustafar in the Vader comics and Battle of Hoth just to name a few.
Also confirmation bias. People usually cite Rex, Gregor, the Bad Batch, etc. as reasons for the Clones superiority but these guys are the elite with years of training and war experience. They also fail to account a billion other average clones that is probably just as competent as the average storm trooper
Before going into battle I would only insist that the AT-TE armor be updated and equivalent to AT-AT armor. It wouldn't just be a victory or a slaughter it would be a route. The Clones wouldn't miss and the AT-TE' s would outmaneuver flank the AT-AT's and well obliterate them. Always thought that the Empire should have not only kept the AT TE's but should have integrated them with the AT AT's and AT- ST's In concert with good air cover they would have been unstoppable the AT-AT's would be protected and would provide cover for their shorter squatter un trippable protectors.
>The Clones wouldn't miss Bruh that's a movie thing, plot armor, you know? And AT-AT's aren't that clumsy, they can maneuver pretty well, you can see it when one destroys one of the airspeeders during the battle of hoth

I kept wanting to also see your video clips on the screen with sunflowers. It's weird to me why the Empire/Tarkin agreed to switch from clones, especially programmable, to troopers. For what? Just for the expense? It seems like the Emperor would have wanted the clones over storms.
The clones were a weapon against the Republic as much as the droid armies. Generating resentment at the higher taxes to pay for them and repugnance at the use of child slaves . Abandoning them "proved" the Empire better than the Republic. Palpatine was always a better politician than a general.
The only differences clones troopers have vs storm troopers is 1) Clones had accelerated growth and aging 2) Training from a young age 3) Better training 4) Better equipment 5) More loyal This does not mean a storm trooper could not beat/kill a clone trooper.
Better training, I might add, but only marginally. People automatically think of ARC troopers and Commandos when they talk clones, when you only had 100 ARC troopers and 10,000 commandos (half of which died on Geonosis). The average clone trooper and average storm trooper were incredibly similar in skill, equipment, and loyalty. Except the clones cost way more.
Stormtroopers are mainly the villains battling against a small number of characters with plot armor. They weren't allowed competent . The Clones were the "good" guys for most of their screen time. So they were allowed to be as capable in ways stormtroopers can't be.
I remembered reading a book in elementary school of this or a section of a Star Wars book and ofc that book agrees that the Clones are the superior force.
This is true. Stormtroopers hit their targets all the time in the movies, only missing when told. Meanwhile the clones in the 2008 show can't hit the broad side of a barn, even when huge super battle droids are marching towards them at a slow walk in a hallway. Lmao
Going by just what we see in the movies its obvious who is superiour: On one hand we have an army thats only tactic is to blindly charge the enemy and at best achieve costly draws and is uncapable of hitting main characters and on the other we have a force that utilize cover, curbstomp nameless mooks and occasionally pierce plot armour. I mean the main characters live but the fact that Stormtroopers are such good shots that they occasionally manage to bypass plot armour is a clear indicator of their superiority.
Very based take. Clones were made for being mass produced and thrown into a war of attrition against legions of droids. Odd how people forget that, and how the Stormtroopers actually hit their targets, kick ass, and even get through plot armour on Endor.
Of course clones were superior because some of them had plot amour so nobody could ever kill them while storm troopers I don’t think I need to explain it.
Clone Pros: Are copies of the most dangerous bounty hunter in the galaxy. Can be quickly grown from baby to adult to meet war demands. Are trained from birth to be soldiers. Come in near infinite numbers if you have the resources, time, and enough cloning tanks to produce them. Highly loyal. Clone Cons: The highly skilled and most experienced Clones do not stick around for long due to their accelerated aging. Are crazy expensive to produce. Their loyalty can be taken away in a second if their chips are activated. Storm Trooper Pros: Come in near infinite numbers. Do not need to start from scratch like the Clones. You can just recruit from local populations. An instant army. Only a few months of training are needed as opposed to 10 years of growth for a Clone. Storm Trooper Cons: Are not as trained as Clones. They only spend a few months in an academy while Clones spend their entire lives preparing. Can easily be enemy spies infiltrating the ranks pretending to be a loyal citizen to the Empire. Weapons and armor are cheaper than what the Clones used so that soldiers can be produced even faster. Far more defections than most realize as many are disgusted by the Empire's evil deeds. These are the pros and cons off the top of my head. I still go with Clones however. they've proven themselves highly capable time and time again.
I see it this way. The clone were made for war but had nothing of value in the world even themselves, but the storm troopers had a lot more to lose since they had family and a home to defend.
Another difference is their training. The clones were better trained while the stormtroopers didn’t have the time to be trained to similar standards because Empires needed boots on the ground in every part of the empire. At the end of the day the stormtroopers were over glorified police force which may have been intentional since it would make any attempt by high ranking imperials to overthrow the emperor difficult as it would require mass cooperation which would have only had multiple leaks. The worse part of this plan is that police make horrible soldiers and soldiers horrible police.
Generations tech is that a question or not you've seen clone troopers they're Superior Stormtroopers and first order Troopers because they were trained since birth
Surely someone else thought the black spotted wall that the TV's on was bits of stuff on your phone screen and tried to wipe them off ? 😂 Or just me maby 😅
Besides the obvious plot armor the heroes get, it's worth noting that the Empire struggled against the Rebels hit and run tactics. The Rebels weren't superior in training to the Stormtroopers (usually) they just used tactics the Empire couldn't effectively counter. Look at the Vietnam War as a real life example. I feel like the Empire would have fared more successfully against another conventional military. I'd argue the Empire would win over the GAR especially if they didn't have Jedi leading them. Side note I think a really interesting scenario would be the Empire versus the Confederacy at full force. No Sith to hold them back secretly. Just the massive droid army without limits versus the might of the Empire
Yes, anyone could beat the rebels if it weren't for plot armor. They're a group of poorly "trained" outcasts. Stormtroopers weren't great, but were actual military. My left arm could beat the Rebel Alliance, anyone can.
@@th3litgods sorry, you and the poster above forget one little insignifican thing, the rebellion was formed by veteran of the clone wars (both side) and many of their high ranking officer were among the best the imperial armed forces had before defecting and in general the rebel force have the quality over quantity feeling, outcast? @@LordVader1094 ummm, I believe you've got your troopers flipped. Stormie's are renowned for their poor accuracy. While Clones pretty much hit what they aim at,
I’ll tell you what put 500 clone troopers in the middle of a battlefield up against 1,000 stormtroopers and I guarantee you I that the clones would win.
Makes me wonder why they didnt continue producing clones, they couldve been as the elite of the storm trooper corps like what 501st was in legends and older clones would be use as instructors or experienced field officers. If the empire continued to order clones the ground battle on endor wouldve likely been different as there was so few clones left in the 501st legion that its fighting ability and effectiveness was much weaker as experienced clones whom were unable to fight anymore were replaced by regular human recruits
Clones simply cost too much with minimal increase in skill comparatively. And the Empire DID keep clones as instructors and field officers. Do people forget how skilled "regular human recruits" can be in real life or something? Lol
@@LordVader1094 i do believe the skill increase is actually much greater, given they not only were trained by mandalorians but atleast the 1st generation were trained by jango himself. Clones also had years of training and were in peak physical condition. The Stormtroopers while much more accurate and skilled than irl modern soldiers were far less skilled than the Clones and arguably less effective and dependable than any clone. Also I do believe that when comparing the best of the best, imperial Death Troopers dont hold a candle to the Republic ARC Troopers on the battlefield. I cant make a comparison with Clone Commandos as I dont think the Empire had a stormtrooper unit that specialized in covert ops and sabotage.
Personally if I was talking I would of scaled the clones down to 10 percent production jango clones where proven product, the star experimenting with that 10 percent budget with other genetic material and try other clones to supplement the 90 percent storm troopers, then have the regs learn from the clones, while it would build some commrodery you control the origins of that knowledge so you could push that loyalty to a specific direction
That definitely would have been a better plan in the long term, but Palpatine burnt bridges with the Kaminoans after the Republic became the Empire, mainly because he didn't want to pay them. He then crushed them when they started producing Clone Troopers for their own purposes.
What I don't understand is if the Kaminoans were such good genetic-engineers why didn't the clone-troopers genes that accelerated the ageing process turn-oof once they reached maturity so they aged normally?
To put it in the words of my old guitar teacher, "no matter how good you are, there will always be a Asian kid better than you" meaning someone who started practice from a young age will always be better than someone starting at a older age
The clones were raised and bred for war where as the stormtroopers were trained to be more like a multipurpose military police force with swat capabilities. Stormtroopers Policing the galaxy one planet at a time.
Nope, stormtroopers are an elite fighting force mostly assigned to important Imperial installations or important leaders. Newer shows have made them into fodder, but the movies show otherwise.
my thoughts on this subject are that clones are good for the mental effects of war and are good at shooting droids blindly marching into them and also having secret orders in them while the stormtroopers are far superior at garrison dutys and dealing with gorilla warfare and can think more creatively with certain situations and dont cost so much and take 10 years to be ready
Pretty much. Stormtroopers are almost as skilled as clones, but don't take 10 years to grow while paying for them. Not to mention how badly you see the clones perform most times in the Clone Wars show lol
I think that the clones are the exception to the "quality over quanity" argument, i mean you have a galaxy spanning military that was brave and compatent vs. storm troopers who were good at shooting but nothing more.
@@LordVader1094 Competent, I wouldn't call them that, a lot of times (apart from the 501st) they were bad at their jobs, I know they were letting Leia and all go in ANH. I have not seen any Bravery from Storm troopers what i have seen is bullying and strength in numbers.
I always considered the Stormtrooper Corps to be the Star Wars equivalent of the US Marine Corps. Considering the Stormtrooper Corps was stationed to be the first into battle, either ship to ship or ship to land, etc, they are the perfect Marines.
In a History context; its a lot like the British Army in the Late 1800's - a policing force for the empire, where as the Armies of 1939 and 1917 were Armies meant for fighting a near peer threat.

Your mom.
Republic Troopers as enemies: Weak (approximately equal to the "stormtrooper" esque Sith Troopers).
Republic Trooper player class: Really strong
Sith Trooper player: “Am I strong?”
I'm curious about one thing about the clones. Has anyone tried to reverse the accelerated aging? Is it even possible?
That’s a really good question!
But I’m guessing editing genes in vitro is much easier than after birth.
Possibly but that would require someone who is knowledgible on gene engineering and frankly the only ones that would be capapble of that would have been the Kaminoan cloners since they would know how they modified the Clones to age quickly along with knowing the DNA of the clones.
Kal Skirata and his many sons abducted several scientists in order to do just that, and eventually it worked

Forced retirement was enforced on many as they were seen as too old and a massive recruitment campaign began around the time shortly after episode 4 where the Empire was aware of the growing rebel threat and mass defections so they began to recruit even more non clones than before.

I'm loving the unspoken support in the background of all of your latest videos. 🌾🌻
Would Generation Tech like to make a video about Imperial task force vs. reactivated Separatist holdout?

I would disagree

Always thought that the Empire should have not only kept the AT TE's but should have integrated them with the AT AT's and AT- ST's
In concert with good air cover they would have been unstoppable the AT-AT's would be protected and would provide cover for their shorter squatter un trippable protectors.
>The Clones wouldn't miss
Bruh that's a movie thing, plot armor, you know? And AT-AT's aren't that clumsy, they can maneuver pretty well, you can see it when one destroys one of the airspeeders during the battle of hoth
@@randomstormtrooper3345 well thuring battle of hoth the AT-AT zec Zac there way through the mountain in hours well you get AT-TE can climb over the in a line
Your wall had me thinkin I had dirt on my screen.
Also if Jango Fett was alive he could have been the one to lead every clone trooper including the bad batch and Boba could be a second in command
He was working for the faction the clones where fighting. I highly doubt that would happen
Jango opposed the Republic. Highly unlikely.
Bruh did you forget that Jango Fett died fighting AGAINST the Republic, in the very same battle where the clone army had its debut?
I kept wanting to also see your video clips on the screen with sunflowers.
It's weird to me why the Empire/Tarkin agreed to switch from clones, especially programmable, to troopers. For what? Just for the expense? It seems like the Emperor would have wanted the clones over storms.
The clones were a weapon against the Republic as much as the droid armies. Generating resentment at the higher taxes to pay for them and repugnance at the use of child slaves . Abandoning them "proved" the Empire better than the Republic. Palpatine was always a better politician than a general.
Thank you
Imagine the Imperial condolences letters it had to be in the millions a month.
The only differences clones troopers have vs storm troopers is
1) Clones had accelerated growth and aging
2) Training from a young age
3) Better training
4) Better equipment
5) More loyal
This does not mean a storm trooper could not beat/kill a clone trooper.
12:27 Wrong Answer Bub! For the Empire!
Well one group tended to hit their targets while the other tended to make noise and miss by a mile.
This is true. Stormtroopers hit their targets all the time in the movies, only missing when told.
Meanwhile the clones in the 2008 show can't hit the broad side of a barn, even when huge super battle droids are marching towards them at a slow walk in a hallway. Lmao
@@LordVader1094 and yet somehow clones that were outmanned 100 to 1 managed to take the field and eliminate most of the jedi 🤔
Didn’t commander Cody say he’d trade a battalion of stormtroopers for one clone?
He'd be a fool, then.
That crayon line is so underrated 🤣
501st, 212th, wolf pack.... don't remember any storm trooper legions that we can name. Also love the jab at the Marines needed a laugh today
501st Aka Vaders fist? rings a bell they were actually way more famous for being a stormtrooper legion than a clone legion
I'd even argue that a single fresh out the pod clone soldier could take on 100 storm troopers in a combat scenario.
Basically the clones were almost an army of special forces
3:09 actual footage of Palpatine on a zoom call with his granddaughter Rey
Going by just what we see in the movies its obvious who is superiour:
On one hand we have an army thats only tactic is to blindly charge the enemy and at best achieve costly draws and is uncapable of hitting main characters and on the other we have a force that utilize cover, curbstomp nameless mooks and occasionally pierce plot armour.
Which of these is superior? Clone Troopers, or Third Generation Dark Troopers (from The Mandalorian if you haven't heard of these or seen the series).
Of course clones were superior because some of them had plot amour so nobody could ever kill them while storm troopers I don’t think I need to explain it.
Clone Pros:
Are copies of the most dangerous bounty hunter in the galaxy.
Can be quickly grown from baby to adult to meet war demands.
Are trained from birth to be soldiers.
Come in near infinite numbers if you have the resources, time, and enough cloning tanks to produce them.
Highly loyal.
Clone Cons:
The highly skilled and most experienced Clones do not stick around for long due to their accelerated aging.
Are crazy expensive to produce.
Their loyalty can be taken away in a second if their chips are activated.
Storm Trooper Pros:
Come in near infinite numbers.
Do not need to start from scratch like the Clones. You can just recruit from local populations. An instant army.
Only a few months of training are needed as opposed to 10 years of growth for a Clone.
Storm Trooper Cons:
Are not as trained as Clones.
I didn't kno the Kaminoen were from the Dolphins family Allen 😳!?...
Scary 😨
Stormtroopers aren't glorified police. Nothing actually supports this bogus claim in canon or Legends lol
Clone troopers= quality
Stormtroopers= quantity
Yes
You also have to take the helmet tech into acount.
A million clone troopers is nothing compared to billions of regular soldiers. Quantity is a quality in it of itself.
The quality of stormtroopers becomes even sadder when you realize that they were supposed to be the elite soldiers of the Empire
The Halo clip in this video made my day
I never thought the Kaminoans looked like dolphins.
It’s also their behavior… their natural ability to scheme and be evil
Generations tech is that a question or not you've seen clone troopers they're Superior Stormtroopers and first order Troopers because they were trained since birth
Surely someone else thought the black spotted wall that the TV's on was bits of stuff on your phone screen and tried to wipe them off ? 😂 Or just me maby 😅
Just remember, “an entire legion of [the emperor’s] best troops” was defeated by two dozen rebels and a tribe of teddy bears.
Said teddy bears were able to capture a Jedi like Luke, so that hardly means anything lol
@@LordVader1094 and he could have left anytime he wanted.
Sure...but many of that poorly trained people can mop the floor with SEAL team
@@lukedalton Even if they were, the clones have no influence on the modern Rebellion. The rebels sure as hell don't act like their trained by clones and in scenes were protagonists aren't around they get their asses kicked by Stormtroopers (excluding Disney's dogshit movies)
@@th3litgods let's see in the original movies we see the imperials attack a lightly defended corvette and overwhelming the meager and lightly armed security forces through sheer numbers, sustain heavy loss and failing in their objective at Hoth, being beaten by the Ewok and a group of rebel special force operative sure before the imperial have captured the group due to the 'clever' plan of the emperor but they also failed to secure the perimeter so they have been cumberstomped by teddy bear totally failing to achieve their objective aka protect the shield generator. Oh well they secure Cloud city with massive superior man and fire power and the menace to return to even more force and still the stormtroopers there are quickly dealt by the locals once the agreement out permitting to the rebels (and the citizens) to escape. TLDR clones were an army designed to fight battles, stormtroopers were internal security forces designed to fight insurgents.
I’ll tell you what put 500 clone troopers in the middle of a battlefield up against 1,000 stormtroopers and I guarantee you I that the clones would win.
Yes, next question?
Alan speaks facts at the end
As a now, retired grunt, I greatly appreciate your use of our terminology .
That photo of the clone on the thumbnail is the same photo of my profile
What I don't understand is if the Kaminoans were such good genetic-engineers why didn't the clone-troopers genes that accelerated the ageing process turn-oof once they reached maturity so they aged normally?
Why are the little moving gubbins in your commercial goods made of plastic and not metal? Because they are designed to wear out.
4:08 why does his wall look like there’s a bunch of bugs on it
Seriously look at the clone trooper armor, looks more durable than the plastic look we see for stormtroopers
Yet you still see clones die the moment they're shot by even one blaster bolt.
Short answer: Yes
Long answer:
Absolutely
To put it in the words of my old guitar teacher, "no matter how good you are, there will always be a Asian kid better than you" meaning someone who started practice from a young age will always be better than someone starting at a older age
The clones were raised and bred for war where as the stormtroopers were trained to be more like a multipurpose military police force with swat capabilities. Stormtroopers Policing the galaxy one planet at a time.
Nope, stormtroopers are an elite fighting force mostly assigned to important Imperial installations or important leaders. Newer shows have made them into fodder, but the movies show otherwise.
no shit is the answer but ill happily watch anyway
my thoughts on this subject are that clones are good for the mental effects of war and are good at shooting droids blindly marching into them and also having secret orders in them while the stormtroopers are far superior at garrison dutys and dealing with gorilla warfare and can think more creatively with certain situations and dont cost so much and take 10 years to be ready
Pretty much. Stormtroopers are almost as skilled as clones, but don't take 10 years to grow while paying for them.
Not to mention how badly you see the clones perform most times in the Clone Wars show lol
Short answer yes
short response yes. question answered.
yes
I think that the clones are the exception to the "quality over quanity" argument, i mean you have a galaxy spanning military that was brave and compatent vs. storm troopers who were good at shooting but nothing more.
Storm troopers were also brave and competent though. What are you talking about? Lol
Yes they were made from Jango Fett and had better training.
In a History context; its a lot like the British Army in the Late 1800's - a policing force for the empire, where as the Armies of 1939 and 1917 were Armies meant for fighting a near peer threat.
