I dunno, the Stormtroopers seemed to do a lot better against the Rebels than the Clones did against the CIS. The difference in success rates is even sharper when you consider that the Rebels knew how to set up and take advantage of defensive positions, and the B1 battle droid isn't exactly a Terminator.

@@tba113 The CIS was a massive military complex that could output 5 battle droids for every 1 destroyed. The Rebel Alliance on the other hand was volunteers and imperial deserters who couldn't afford to lose any military assets including manpower.
The GAR did well enough against a force that could overwhelm them with sheer numbers while the Stormtroopers basically fired at fish in a barrel most of the time. It's a bad comparison to make since their enemies were vastly different and I doubt the Stormtroopers would have done well against the CIS since they had to rely on other branches of the Imperial Military for simple ground support, but I also doubt the GAR would have done well against the rebels since it has been shown that no army can hold a position forever if the civilian populace is against them.

I mean, in the movies at least, we mostly only see Storm troopers in major military engagements or extremely important installations such as the Death Star and related facilities, Hoth and the Tantive IV, the only one that might not mesh would be their appearance on Tatooine, but given the active hunt for the Death Star plans, they might *not* have been a garrison force

@@LordVader1094 I’d dissent for the Mandalorian. It’s all imperial holdouts and remnants. The storm troopers were not just the elite troopers, they were also picked for unwavering loyalty to the empire, so many of them probably latched onto their chain of command as best they could and fought for the highest ranking officer they could reach. As best I can tell, they’re all still hanging onto high ranking imperial officers, installations, and other key points of interest. So it actually works out for me (their lackluster performances notwithstanding, but that might be able to be chalked up to gear in poor condition from a lack of steady supply for ~4 years) even on the gozanti although I’d have switched out a few more of them for naval officers and crew. As for the bad batch, they’re still mostly using clone troopers because that’s what they’ve got and the elite status has yet to be earned for the non clone personnel. You’ve got me on rebels though… that’s dang near unforgivable in some cases, although even then they’re usually in hot spots of rebellion like lothal which could use some extra capable manpower or as parts of a major campaign or attached to higher ranking officers (again, lackluster performance notwithstanding). It’s not that their usage seems too terribly off it’s that their performance doesn’t stack up (although they even dumbed down Thrawn and the death troopers for Rebels so don’t necessarily cut them slack but maybe just accept that it was a sub par performance from the Disney run imperials all around)

The GAR Clones were a utilitarian military force because they were designed for direct combat in mind.
While the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps was more of a light infantry force intended as part of a glorified peacekeeping unit for what was basically an occupational authority for a strict police state that wasn't expecting to fight organized forms of resistance since they figured that not many would be willing to stand against the Empire as much as the Rebellion did.

It should also be noted that Palpatine probably knew their would be a chance, small but possible considering hes pulling the strings, that clones would not be enough and mass recruitment may be necessary to complete his agenda. Because the clones were trained at every field they were the perfect backbone if the GAR had to restructure itself during the clonewars. This is directly false when you consider the numerous wars the Empire had to fight in the early years to stamp out any resistance, plus mopping up Separatists. @@LordVader1094 do you know how much goes into a storm trooper?? The training alone is not the issue it's all the support staff that is shoved into them. You have to have brainwashed and political officers to enforce the ideology, transportation costs to pull the literally handpicked cadets to, I believe it's anaxes where the actual black site for stormtrooper training is held. The ISB agents to monitor every, single, stormtrooper coms for any tidbit of individuality, not to mention the ISB agents to monitor the agents to insure they do their jobs cause Palpatine is crazy about that. Also the handpicked cadets probably have a high wash out rate in training due to the borderline insane, if not well in, standards pressed on them, which is probably resources lost. All in all, the stormtrooper probably cost as much as clone overall due to the above reasons, because resources required to recruit, train, and "maintaining" them are going to be immense.
If it was the imperial army you would have a definite point as the demands are, in training and indoctrination, is alot lower than the average stormtrooper.

In Legends, they identified the genes responsible for the accelerated aging, but only a small number of clones were given "normal" lifespans as a result. Those were the Skirata bunch and a few ARC troopers. Phase Zero Dark Troopers from Legends were an attempt to keep aging clones in fighting shape for as long as possible, but I'm not sure if it extended their lifespan.
In current canon, neither the Empire nor the Rebellion were interested in prolonging clone lives; the Imperials wanted to switch to regular humans anyway, and the Rebels had no knowledge or tech that could remotely help. By 0BBY l, Jango Fett Clones were already mostly replaced in the Storm Trooper Core as well as the Imperial Navy only making up about 10% of the Imperial military at the time, only a small fraction of their former glory as Imperial recruits soon outnumbered them in most low level and high level positions, leaving the remaining 10% mostly being the last generation of Clones who were babies in the Bad Batch season 1 moved to other facilities to be raised as well as veterans of the Clone Wars being a minority of officers with some remaining in the Storm Trooper core, but by then most had either died or had been retired, Clones were a minority in the military they once dominated. By 3 ABY only 2% of the Imperial military was made up of Jango Fett clones, most of which were officers as the vast majority of the remaining ones in the Storm Trooper core that were the last batch aged out of service in between episode 4 and 6 as well as many dying in the first and then second Death Star as well as in massive fleet battles against the rebels. Forced retirement was enforced on many as they were seen as too old and a massive recruitment campaign began around the time shortly after episode 4 where the Empire was aware of the growing rebel threat and mass defections so they began to recruit even more non clones than before. The Battle of Jakku was the final straw in which most of the remaining Imperial Clones either defected or died in the horrors of the battle.

Combat training isn't the longest part of the training either (the standard course could be done in _three months_ at most, though specialists like medics, vehicle crews, and the like require at least one month of extra training), but other things including _memetic_ training, i.e. the various courses to train soldiers to be at _least_ resistant to memetic weapons (this takes _four_ months at the minimum). Clone Pros:
Are copies of the most dangerous bounty hunter in the galaxy.
Can be quickly grown from baby to adult to meet war demands.
Are trained from birth to be soldiers.
Come in near infinite numbers if you have the resources, time, and enough cloning tanks to produce them.
    Highly loyal.
    Clone Cons:
The highly skilled and most experienced Clones do not stick around for long due to their accelerated aging.
    Are crazy expensive to produce.
Their loyalty can be taken away in a second if their chips are activated.
    Storm Trooper Pros:
    Come in near infinite numbers.
Do not need to start from scratch like the Clones. You can just recruit from local populations. An instant army.
Only a few months of training are needed as opposed to 10 years of growth for a Clone.
    Storm Trooper Cons:
Are not as trained as Clones. They only spend a few months in an academy while Clones spend their entire lives preparing.
Can easily be enemy spies infiltrating the ranks pretending to be a loyal citizen to the Empire.
Weapons and armor are cheaper than what the Clones used so that soldiers can be produced even faster.
Far more defections than most realize as many are disgusted by the Empire's evil deeds.
These are the pros and cons off the top of my head. I still go with Clones however. they've proven themselves highly capable time and time again.

Clone troopers being better trained is purely an informed ability in canon, not really backed up by visual media. You're told they're better, but not shown they're better.
Ironically it goes the other way for stormtroopers. You see them kick ass in the movies, and only miss when told, but recent shows have tried to inform you that they're less skilled than clones and are glorified meat shields.

You have to remember that the "elite" stormtrooper Corp are primarily conditioned to serve Palpatine absolutely and nothing else. Clones are expensive, but turning out an army of unquestionably loyal soldiers takes just about as much money and labor. You have constant ideology testing, regular brainwashing services, selection processes, transportation (because they are not coming out of one planet), ISB monitoring services, the monitoring service that monitors the monitors, and the list might just go on further. My point is that stormtroopers are not even worth the pound for pound to a clone, and I believe that they cost just as much due to the above maintenance costs. Stormtroopers are trained at nothing but being loyal to Palpatine and by extension the empire, combat ability was not a factor because if it came to that the tarkin doctrine takes over and orbital bombardment begins as it usually does.

    • @LordVader1094

      >but turning out an army of unquestionably loyal soldiers takes just about as much money and labor.
It's really not. Raising clones for 10 years for EVERY soldier, feeding and housing them the entire time before you can use them, is far more expensive than simply training adult humans and getting them to the peak of physical skill and ability. Which is quite high if you look at real life.
Furthermore, the stormtroopers in both canon and Legends are stated to be extremely well skilled and trained, only marginally inferior to clones for far less cost. The only things that try to contradict this is Rebels (a kids show) and to a lesser degree Bad Batch/Mandalorian.
Your entire premise that stormtroopers cost just as much as clones is completely false, both logically and in-universe, and every source available.

@@LordVader1094 but over their the course of their career they will cost as much due to the severe amount of the above support services. Do you think monitoring equipment and personnel is cheap? How about through the fricken galaxy. The ISB is not cheap either and having a literal army just to watch another army is another major line item in their overall cost. They use a secret black site on a core world to train them, the stuff in rebels are just the selection training camps to select the best to imported to said black site. Speaking of rebels if the junior camps are cannon then they have been training almost as long, and mentally conditioned as well, for almost as long as a clone as well. Even if they start at age 10 and 16 is considered fighting age in starwars, 6 years is still a long time and the empire has shoulder those costs, try convincing parents who are wageslaves to pay for their son to become a stormtrooper and basically vanish from existence by adulthood, fastest way to make even more rebels.

Going by just what we see in the movies its obvious who is superiour:
On one hand we have an army thats only tactic is to blindly charge the enemy and at best achieve costly draws and is uncapable of hitting main characters and on the other we have a force that utilize cover, curbstomp nameless mooks and occasionally pierce plot armour.
I mean the main characters live but the fact that Stormtroopers are such good shots that they occasionally manage to bypass plot armour is a clear indicator of their superiority.

Compare that to the show Rebels where stormtrooper recruits are encouraged to cheat and betray their fellow soldiers to get to the next step.

Clone armor, weapons, vehicles, ships, everything was built for war. The most powerful blaster bolt a clone armor could block would go straight throug one or two storm troopers, the E11 was a glorified flashlight compared to the DC15A, the AT-TE was just so much more manuverable then an AT-AT and combined with its large, 360° fire arc cannon, it would devour AT-ATs for breakfast. The only inferior thing the clones had was the Acclamator BUT considered that the Acclamator had a belly full of various small craft designed to massively fuck up capitol ships and fighter escorts, this inferiority is to be put in relation. I mean no one would say, a G.R.-Ford class carrier is a piece of shit, because it can't stand a 1v1 against an Iowa class battleship, without its main weapon system wich are the planes on board.
    TL:DR
    Clones were made for war,
    Stormtroopers to be cheap.

Makes me wonder why they didnt continue producing clones, they couldve been as the elite of the storm trooper corps like what 501st was in legends and older clones would be use as instructors or experienced field officers. If the empire continued to order clones the ground battle on endor wouldve likely been different as there was so few clones left in the 501st legion that its fighting ability and effectiveness was much weaker as experienced clones whom were unable to fight anymore were replaced by regular human recruits

The Stormtroopers while much more accurate and skilled than irl modern soldiers were far less skilled than the Clones and arguably less effective and dependable than any clone.

They arr more loyal, smarter and frankly hqve way cooler armour no matter the generation or branch. Their gear was better and clone special forces were unstoppable in Katarn class Beskar Gam suits with energy shields and modular weapon systems. A single ARC trooper could essentialy bring down the local governing authority on any planet and infiltrate any building in the galaxy.
