Long story short, Japan is famous for having maid themed cafés. Rhythm guitarist worked at one, then decided to create a maid themed rock band and voilà! 10 years of amazing music and watching the members grow and evolve musically.

Band-Maid can blow you out of your seat; They can make your head bop to the insane groove; They can make you completely disoriented with their guitar/bass riffs and they can get you all choked up with their heartfelt slower songs. These ridiculously talented ladies can do it all.
    And they will! 😎🤘

So, As a fan of drumming, you clearly need to watch Freedom next. Trust me 😊
    1. Maid cafes are like themed restaurants in Japan, the band founder worked in one, loved it, thought it was a cool juxtaposition for a rock band.
    2. Song is about them conquering the world through music. It’s like their anthem at this point.
    3. I absolutely butcher the Japanese when I sing along very loudly in my car. But I basically view the vocals as another instrument that sounds great.
And yes, they nearly are always in some version of their maid outfits. They change it up every year or 2. The only time I’ve seen them perform outside of the costume is in acoustic settings. Their band name is Band Maid, it’s literally in the name 😂

They wear the outfits whenever they are in view as Band-Maid. The original designs back in 2013 were all very similar, and based on maid costumes from the "Maid Cafes" that are a thing in Japan. Every few years they get new designs and each member's outfit has evolved to fit their desires. Bassist MISA never liked them at all and quickly shifted to simple black outfits. Lead singer Saiki has slowly morphed into sort of a goth club hostess look. They call the clothes their "combat gear".

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. The idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

Rhythm guitarists mostly write lyrics. The singers are also great, and I think this group is currently at the top level in the world's rock world. The maid costumes were rhythm guitarist (and band founder) Miku Kobato's idea, which originated from her having worked in several maid cafés as a waitress. Miku liked the customer service concept of maid café and calls their concerts Okyu-ji (Servings), their audiences Masters and Princesses, and she also thought that a band of maids who played face melting hard rock would be humorous and memorable. They wear the maid costumes at every live show, although they performed two absolutely amazing music videos in Geisha Maiko kimono, and they performed a Christmas acoustic concert in red and beige casual party dress.
Band-Maid just celebrated their tenth anniversary with a lengthy tour of Japan and North America that was capped off with an over three hour long tour final at Yokohama Arena. They've released four AWESOME videos from that concert.
I saw them perform in Detroit last Spring at a small club. They have a huge catalog of songs from which to select a set list and they're all good.
To give their vocalist a break they do incredible instrumentals: "Onset", "From Now On" - mind blowing, face melting stuff.
Just go to their UA-cam page and try songs at random - none of them disappoint. Band-Maid will always put a smile on your face.

Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Thank you for reacting the BAND-MAID song.
They are dressed as maids, but their playing techniques are top notch.
A band that only looks like it should focus on their faces and appearances,
but this music video mainly shows their playing hands in the dark.
They are confident in their performance, which is backed up by good practice.
If they provide beauty, catchy and elegant songs, they can't go without everyone's instructions.
As a Japanese fan, I think so.
The song "Domination" describes their plans for world domination.
By the way, their world domination means that everyone in the world knows about BAND-MAID.
That's why the lyrics "Hello, Hello" are included.
Their performance techniques are also wonderful, so I want you to listen to their instrumental songs as well.

Welcome, TECK. You are embarking on (along with many others - nearly 200 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Shambles, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): ua-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/v-deo.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. ua-cam.com/users/BANDMAID

Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

They are always Maids with 2 exceptions, they did an online acoustic show a couple of years ago in 'normal' clothes and then their alter ego Band Maiko (originally an April Fool's joke) are a different look entirely which I hope you will also get around to. If you are really into drums than Akane is a drummer well worth listening to, she rapidly bcame my favourite drummer knocking Ginger Baker off my lifetime favourite no.1 slot. And she's leaps and bounds better now than she was in this 2020 show as they all are quite frankly.

Misa's bass is one of my favorite parts of their music, particularly her solos and duels with lead guitarist Kanami. Akane is on the drums. Rhythm guitarist Miku founded the band as the singer. After starting as a quartet, they decided to get an additional lead singer, and chose Saiki. The song that got them going, and saved the band, is "Thrill", one of my favorites even though it's older.
They are far from the only rock/metal band kicking butt in Japan, a lot of them all female too. A couple more to try, a couple of my favorites, are Nemophila and LOVEBITES. If interested, try "Oiran" (official live) by Nemophila, And "Holy War" (live at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020) by LOVEBITES.

This band is a prime example of how sometimes less is more. Hardly any band these days knows how to put all band members equally in the spotlight without letting the ego of a single member get in the way. Almost all of us who have been following these ladies for a while now will agree that they are at the very end of the food chain when it comes to the best hard rock of today. :) And yes, I don't speak a single word Japanese, but the music is in the foreground and Saiki's voice is the fifth instrument for me, which is why I sing along to the lyrics phonetically.
Greetings from Germany and welcome to the pigeon-hole of Band-Maid! ❤‍🔥🤘🏻

As a young pup in my twenties I made a living out of drumming, then life took over and the kit was stashed away with occasional outings every now and then and over time not at all, then three years ago at a young 62 I tumbled onto BAND -MAID and their talented, joyous drummer Akane Hirose and she immediately reminded me of the number one thing about drumming - it's fun!! So out came the kit and I'm still wailing away like I'm in my twenties all over again, I could never thank Akane enough. Don't deprive yourself my friend, jump onto the B-M train, you will not be disappointed 👍🍻

I can sing a lot of the words but have NO IDEA what they mean. Just sounds. and not all the words in every sentence.
The thing about this band is (and I am NOT a musician) but I have heard them called musicians for musicians. creative, inventive, fearless. Band-Maid doing Band-Maid things.
Rock, Hard Rock, Pop, Punk, Alt, Prog and lets sprinkle in some Metal or Jazz or Blues just for the "Because We're Band-Maid and we can do what we want" fun of it.
Some day you'll discover a song where the bassist plays lead. And a song that's heartfelt just for the fans. Songs that will melt your face or songs you can work out to. Have fun. Welcome to Band-Maid.

I love watching folx discover Band Maid! The lyrics on this, and most of their songs, are actually a roughly even mix of Japanese and English--but the English is so heavily accented that it's hard to tell at first (NOT a dis, just a comment). You'll start to pick up the change as you listen more.

You'll like "Freedom" from the same concert -- drum solo, served up with the biggest smile. They always wear the maid outfits, except for one special acoustic concert on Christmas Day a couple of years ago, and when doing April 1st pranks as a geisha-themed band called "Band-Maiko" (maiko=apprentice geisha). Their outfits have changed over the years, with the current outfit being introduced at their Tenth Anniversary concert last year. Watch any of the live videos from that concert -- the most recent four videos on their official UA-cam channel.

They got like 150 songs, and there's not a bad one in the bunch. I'm a guitarist for 40 years, and Kanami is fantastic on the six string, but my favorites are the rhythm section. MISA on bass and Akane on the drums could literally play for any band on this planet and destroy. I've seen them live and will do so again anytime they come even vaguely near me. for drumming, I'd check out Freedom, which is a poppy rock song with a killer drum solo, and Black Hole, which is borderline prog 210bpm madness, but anything is good. you can't go wrong with anything.

Re the costumes- Band-MAID. If you enjoy music and even better, are a singer, play guitar, bass or drums, you will love this band. There is so much in their music to appreciate. You can hear the layering of the music in the compositions by Kanami (Lead Guitar) and then the rhythm section of Misa- Bass and Akane- (Drums) and Saiki's vocals. All supported by the Rhythm Guitar and Backing Vocals of Miku. Who was the singer and founder (2013) of the band, but who only learned to play the guitar at the request of Kanami- to free her up to do other things, such as the backing riff you picked out, when not playing lead. Great reaction- thanks from the UK. For a change of pace try Wonderland Official Music Video and appreciate the tasteful drumming of Akane and Saiki's vocal range.

      * BAND-MAID (heavy and prog rock)
      * Lovebites (Heavy speed metal, absolutely the best today, maybe also ever, depending on opinion.)

      * Hanabie (Metal core. Totally new and fun. Young girls.)

everybody else is filling you in on the other details, but to emphasize a point you made : Band Maid solos are not about playing incredibly complex riffs or showing off your dexterity, they are all about the overall structure of the song. If you check out some of their latest live clips ("Hate" or "Don't you tell me") you'll get some really fine bass/lead guitar duels ... but again : nothing particularly complex yet fitting perfectly in the song, not overstaying their welcome and just keeping the energy up.

And this is where the magic happens. There are tons of bands with incredible fast and stunning solos. But the maids are soloing and duelling for the song and building up atmosphere. And they have and bring so much fun to you while doing so. Band-Maid is doing Band-Maid things. First of all they put a big smile on your face and warmth in your heart. I think, this is the best you can get from music.

Welcome to the magical world of the Maids!
Plenty of Wikipedia- worthy comments are sure to come. I just want to say that this band is very much a musician’s band. If you’re a drummer, there’s plenty to explore with Akane “Gorilla” Hirose behind the kit.
Here are my respectful suggestions with that in mind:
“”Onset,” LIVE. One of their several instrumentals with a time signature change and a drum feature
“Warning,” OMV. Skank beats, clever fills, and a full 8 bar fill in the middle. How she gets so much from such a small kit is amazing
“Wonderland,” LIVE. One of their cinematic rock compositions with deeply interesting sections, seemingly jazz-inspired
Or something more straightforward and hard rocking: “DICE,” OMV. Arguably a perfect hard rock song. Akane’s weird hi-hat work oughta catch your ear
In any case, I’m a new subscriber and will enjoy watching you fall down this amazing pigeonhole of music 🤘🏽

The costumes are based on Maid Cafe culture which is big in Japan. Miku the founder of the band and lyric writer and rhythm guitar player and wearer of the Red Rose used to work in Maid Cafes and thought the contrast and gap between sweet pretty Maid Cafe costumes and rock music would be fun. Been together for over ten years and remain a brilliant set of musicians. Akane the drummer is never overpowering and all her work is well worth concentrating on.

If you like Band Maid, you should check out Love Bites, "Holy War," live for starters. They are an even heavier power metal female group from Japan. Personally, I think their two guitarists are the best in the world right now. Their drummer may also be the best at playing that style. Asami, the lead vocalist, writes and sings all of their songs in English, albeit, with a heavy accent. Last tip, one their lead guitarists is a classically trained pianist who performs on the piano during certain songs in their concerts. "Swan Song" comes to mind. I highly recommend this group. Enjoy your special analysis of instruments in the music, not just focusing on the front person.

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

    Band-Maid Wooooooooooooooooooooo. I knew you'd like them.
    To quickly answer your questions:
The outfits are because the girl who started the band, Miku Kobato (rhythm guitar / harmony singer), used to work is a maid café, and thought if would be funny to see a hard rock band that dressed in pretty dresses like maids. So she started her own band just to do that. She didn't even know how to play guitar at that time either.
This song is about their music taking over the world, if you watch the official music video it is more apparent.
I sing parts in Japanese that I know, but they use a lot of English in their songs. My Japanese is meh, but I sing along phonetically.
Yes, they always perform in those outfits. EXCEPT they have an alter-ego band called Band-Maiko where they dress like Gaisha and play more acoustic / traditional versions of their songs.
I could probably list a few dozen songs of their to check out next, but I'll recommend Freedom (Live) ,Dice (Music Video), Daydreaming (Music Video), Onset (Live) or Warning!(Music Video).
P.S. Fun Fact: That was song 23 of a 24 song set and they were still so energetic and had an awesome stage presence.

Quite simply THE best Hard Rock band in the universe. Would enjoy seeing your reaction, as a drummer, to their last and very recent MV release, 'HATE?' live, as it has an incredible call and response section between bass and lead but the superb drum work supoorting their playing is often overlooked (understandably given the spectacle). Ther's also a 30 second drum solo in the live version of their song FREEDOM, which I'm pretty confident you'd enjoy. Akane, the drummer, is the happiest drummer on Earth as well as being very skilled - Jimmy Page was so impressed after watching her perform that he went backstage to ask for a selfie!

I am REALLY hesitant about "best hard rock band in the universe." No offense to Band-Maid, I'm sure they're amazing, but BEST is such a stretch given all the talent that's out there. Great reaction! Couple keyboard tips: When you pause the video you can use the left arrow key to go back 5 seconds and can hit it as many times (and as fast) as you want for additional 5 sec increments (i.e., 6 times is 30 seconds). Much cleaner than wandering around with the mouse on the time bar. I would suggest any time you pause the video to automatically hit it once (or twice) so nothing is missed when you restart. Also, for those times when you want to see how something is done that is too fast (even for slow mo), like when Misa changes back and forth from slapping and picking, she tucks her pick up into her hand then back again, you can hit the " < " or the " > " to go backwards and forwards. This will take you frame by frame (most are 30 frames per second). You can hit it once or many times in rapid succession, but you have to pause the video first. You are actually using the lower case which is the " , " and " ." but it's easier to remember which key if you remember it's the " < " or the " > " on the keyboard. The arrows (upper case) can actually be used to increase or decrease the video speed by .25x each time you hit the key. So to go to half speed just hit it twice (takes you from 1.0 to .75 to .5 speed). Sounds complicated but it's real easy if you play with it for about 30-40 seconds (the first time), after that easy. You can adjust the video speed with or without pausing the video. Hoe this is useful. Thanks again!

I discovered Band Maid back in 2019 and have been hooked ever since. As a regular gigging musician for almost 50 years (I'm in my 60's) I can honestly say this is the best band I've heard in the past three decades. I've seen them play live three times, and I would definitely go see them again... and again. Their catalog is quite long, and crazy good.... every single song! I don't want to say that I'm addicted, but they take up 97 percent of the music I listen to on Spotify throughout each day. Okay, yeah... I'm addicted. Lol

There are so many great rock/metal bands from Japan. Band-Maid is probably the best rock band of them. The best metal band is Lovebites. They are another all-female band They feature world-class guitarists, bassist, and drummer with a fantastic singer. Start with their song The Hammer of Wrath from the Knockin on Heaven's Gate tour.
And just a reminder, you still need to get to Epica, the Dutch symphonic Metal band similar to Nightwish with a harder edge.

The band is Lovebites, the drummer Haruna. An all female band, they play predominantly metal, but like Band-Maid can mix genres; they have two ridiculously talented guitarists, one of whom is a classically trained pianist. And they sing in English. Most reactors start with Holy War ,(live), but any of their newer 2023 live tracks are an excellent choice. Cheers from Australia! (Subscribed)

Thanks for the reaction and insightful comments. These ladies are arguably the most joy-filled, ridiculously talented and yet underrated hard rockin' band on the planet. As you delve deeper into their catalogue, you'll quickly find yourself running out of superlatives to describe them. They simply don't produce bad songs. Others to consider are Play!, Moratorium, Real Existence, Puzzle...all live videos. If you want to check out one of their studio recordings, try Blooming, Shambles, Influencer...I can go on and on. Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing another Band-Maid reaction in the near future. Cheers!

Stillers fan! Yes! Also you have hit on the best band in the world today! You can't miss with anything they do, the combine so many styles and genres you can't go wrong. I think giving your perspective on the music is what really matters. The more you listen to their music you will notice that the drummer and all the other members add those little bits like you mentioned to make transitions and verses different with the song. Great musicians and fantastic live.

One thing about this band you noticed is that they are FUN; and while watching you had that Band-Maid smile on your face. This band has my favorite rhythm section, to see what the drummer can do check out:

There are some fun well-known misinterpretations of Band-Maid lyrics among Western fans, even when the lyrics are in English, because they have pretty strong Japanese accents, the most notorious being "1 2 34 how belong?" heard as "1 2 3 4 parking lot!"
The first line of "Endless Story" comes out more as "En-du-ress sto-rui" and my brain always hears "And the west still rings" instead. 😊

Oh sir, you've only touched a pin needle tip to what Japan has to offer. You need to seriously check these all female metal/rock bands from Japan. Lovebites, Nemophila, Babymetal, Hanabie, Bridear, Unlucky Morpheus, Gacharic Spin, just to name a few. You have no idea, the door you've opened.

@@teckreactions That's cool. But, as much as I like Band-Made, I believe Lovebites is truly in another league above them.

@@OlettaLiano In what context? Musically? Lovebites are straight Heavy Metal. Extremely well played, but compositionally nothing new. The two guitarists are of course world class and technically better than Kanami Tono. But I find Kanami's play style much more interesting and unique.
I know that Fami is a good bass player, but MISA leaves her mark on the band like few before her.
Lovebites' drums are great, very fast and precise, but 90% of it is just metal boom chakk like a polka.
Akane, on the other hand, is much more varied, more playful and her fills already have legendary status.
Please don't get me wrong, I really like Lovebites too, but for me personally Band-Maid may not be better technically, but they are definitely better musically.
In the end, it's all just a matter of taste.

    • @OlettaLiano
      @OlettaLiano 6 місяців тому

@@peterg.1940 Undoubtedly, musical preferences are highly subjective. As I've previously mentioned, in my opinion, Lovebites stands out as the premier all-female metal band hailing from Japan, specifically focusing on the METAL genre. On the other hand, Band-Maid, while not categorized as metal, is undeniably one of Japan's finest rock bands. Being a bassist myself, I greatly admire Misa's musical prowess and, I must admit, harbor a significant crush on her. However, my heart has belonged to Heavy Metal since my introduction to Black Sabbath back in 1972. Metal is my passion; I've been a part of numerous Metal bands during the 80s and 90s, which has cultivated a deep affection for Lovebites' 80s Metal vibe blended seamlessly with their contemporary approach that resonates with my musical inclinations.

Great reaction! Glad you enjoyed them. This band is so much fun and their music is so varied and creative. You truly need to listen to more from them. To those of us who follow them (and there are a multitude of us) we absolutely love these amazing women. Interestingly they just might be better known outside Japan than in. I got to see them live in Salt Lake City last summer and they are unreal in concert. I have seen many great and famous bands in my day and they are as good as any of them. Band Maid fans are like no other fans in the world. I do sing to this and other songs of theirs and I like to think it is Japanese I'm singing, but I'm sure these ladies or anyone else would not think so.

Yep, they always dress up as maids. It's a takeoff from maid cafes where the founder worked when she formed the band. The outfits have evolved over ten years from short sexy skirts (when they were in their early 20s) to genuine rocker uniforms nowadays. I wish I could sing in Japanese, the onset of the syllables is perfect for rock music. I kinda like listening to vocals that I don't understand. The singers become instruments in the band and I lean to groups like Band Maid where the vocals are tightly arranged with the instruments. Check out Corallium Live at Shibuya Eggman for an example (and a really great song).

I learned to sing in other languages back in high school, mostly Latin, so yeah I sing along, in my head or out loud, with Band-Maid in the Japanese + English that they use. "Freedom" live will likely be your most suggested for the drum solo in it. That is fine and a good video. But all their music is good. Just remember that the one you did and Freedom are both from years ago and they have continued to just get better year by year.
My younger brother is a drummer and his practicing while I was studying in HS made me not care about drumming in music. Akane of Band-Maid broke through that long held barrier for me and got me to listen to and appreciate drumming. They are 5 hard working, talented, ladies who love what they are doing and love their fans, and show it, as much as their fans love them.

And a thing about the maid outfits, TECK: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids.
Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!

Hmmm… what song is next? Many advocate for “Freedom”, as it has a longer drum solo, but what’s the most impressive drum song for Band Maid? Maybe “Black Hole” live… plus “Manners”, in the same video, is a great contrast. “Sayonakidori” is actually very intricate, drum-wise, as is “Different”. Then there’s “Bubble” which is cool in a different way. “Hate?” live is everyones’ favorite jam recently as is impressive on every level. Can’t go wrong with any of those songs!

If you had asked me anytime during the first 50 odd years that I spent listening to rock music ,
could I see myself listening to music sung in a different language I would have laughed. I first heard these amazing women about 8 years ago and have been a diehard Madiac ever since. I speak maybe 6 words of Japanese but I think the fact that I don’t understand the lyrics makes their music even more enjoyable for me by allowing me to forget about the lyrics and focus on the instrumental part of the song.
Can I sing along? No but I have other bands that I listen to in the car. I do however listen to Band-Maid most every day. Being retired allows me more time to just enjoy just listening to good music through a good set of headphones. This is where they shine for me.
Oh yeah, Misa Misa Misa! 🇺🇸🇨🇱🤘🏻😎

I've been listening to rock music in a language other than my native language for 60 years and have never had a problem with it. Well, when the Beatles, Kinks and Stones became famous in Germany, I was 7 years old and had no choice but to hear it as it came on the radio. So my approach was certainly different than if I had grown up in an English-speaking country. I learned English at school, but I still primarily listen to songs for the music, so the language is secondary. But it has to fit in rhythmically and melodically and that works quite well with Japanese rock.

I don't understand the lyrics, but I don't care. I more hum along than sing along. For me the lyrics are like another instrument. Like an old jazz singer doing scat singing. For some bass a bit more prominent in the mix, check out their new version of "Hate?" live that came out a few weeks ago.
