It's because Cinematic Mod is supposed to essentially turn Half-Life 2 into a schlocky action film, which was the stated project goal on the Gamebanana page. Immersion be damned, it must look like an action film. If you play this, set fps_max to 24 in the console and set the resolution to 720x480. True DVD immersion.

It's actually really good - The ways in which they use real source game quirks is creative, the production value is way above the norm (as you'd expect from an actual awards-level SFM author) and it's probably gonna give a great nostalgia kick to anyone who enjoyed the nascent youtube scene around when HL2 first came out (y'know, before "machinima" and "creepypasta" were even codified things).

@@Gamerbeangus I mean, to be fair, the in-universe forum thread that kicks off the whole thing kind of fits the mold of an early-forums urban legend, which became a pretty common trope in later "creepypastas".
It's very much intentional, too, from a storytelling/design standpoint. Several parts of the series are distinct homages to content from their respective time periods.
(The OG thread is a good encapsulation of the forum culture of the time with videos being sparse and usually low quality; The Eida period is a good depiction of the late oughts and early tens type of source-related youtube with a lot of amateur gmod content and "Mystery investigations" usually having some paranormal bent; And the modern Anomi period captures supermodern youtube investigations, where there's a distinct focus on actually having a scientific approach and correct technical explanations, with a good deal of production value)

19:51 the interloper series? Thats an arg witch isnt that far off of a creepy pasta but it has some effort put into it. Its pretty good. The interloper is a guy with an umbrella (the graffiti but a different face) and theres a command in the series "Interlope" witch makes a demo. Theres 5 types. Type 1 is just the player camera spinning out of control, i dont remember what type 2 is, type 3 is the player out of bounds for a bit, then dying, type 4 is the player actually trying to play the game, and stage 5 is like if it was a vr game.

EDIT: Also, the reason that the floating barrel puzzle exists in universe is because effectively escaping the Combine requires multiple sick jumps, but the rebels can't allow the Combine to attain said sick jumps, that wouldn't be radical and would be a bummer to the cause, hence the floating barrels. I'm disturbed that you guys don't know this.

@jazzfawke1407 it's a lot more nuanced than that description- we don't even know if it is paranormal yet. I get in the day and age of overdone analog and digital horror, that you might just see it and think, "Great, another digital horror paranormal source series." But it is better than that. The creator has put a lot of effort and passion into this project, and it shows. I just felt that the series is getting lumped into the slop that is most other analog/digital horror projects, especially source ones that just go over the same "scary source feeling" and "le scary ragdoll come alive ooooo"

I got this set up, but what I did was lock the framerate to 24 fps and set the resolution to 720x480, since the intention of Cinematic Mod was to make Half-Life 2 feel like a schlocky early to mid 2000s action movie (instead of a remaster) so I went the extra step of instead of turning it into a DVD.

Half-Life and Half-Life 2 (and it's episodes) we're to have the community test the source engine over the years. That's why there's the brick puzzle, floaty barrel puzzle, and all sorts of physics puzzles.
The British used firing line tactics because it was most effective for them. They had greater numbers so they could sustain the losses. Of course the revolutionaries realized directly confronting them was dumb and they started using guerrilla tactics.

So a while ago, I fixed the clipping issues with the shoulder on the half-life Alex HEV arms.. I'm kind of surprised that they keep showing up broken still, but I guess I'm not, at some point I'll have to do it in blender and do a proper export but.. like come on guys lol, test your animation in first person before compiling...
