Thank you for this. I know I need to stop pumping because it’s such a hassle, but it’s emotionally hard.

I’m a L&D RN and a HUGE part of my job is helping with breastfeeding, and balancing feeding options and expectations. I’m glad you have such a beautiful, open, “go with the flow” attitude. I just want to say, Breastfeeding DID work out for you! Your baby got breastmilk. You did such an amazing job and you’re sharing your message with others in such a positive way! Congrats!

Good for you for doing what you needed for your physical and mental health. A healthy mama is what a baby needs

Any effort to try and breastfeed is amazing. Formula was made for issues like this especially because a pump won't stimulate a mom the same way. There are also free organization like humanmilk4humanbabies if mom's still don't want to use formula I helped feed another baby besides my son for 12months 😊 also don't throw that milk away you can collect it and freeze it label "not for feeding" and you can use it for milk baths, to apply to rashes, and make baby lotion from it

There are also perks to formula! It’s a million times more convenient than pumping. I think in the future I’ll be way more embracing of formula.

My husband and I stopped following the dump an unfinished bottle at like 2 months old because...literally couldn’t afford to continue that rule. My son is a very healthy 14 month old who’s at the top of the growth charts. 😂 I was an exclusive pumper for 5 months, I couldn’t flow fast enough for my son and I never could produce enough in a day for him. I gave up pumping because I had a lot of issues with clogs and emotional stress when trying to pump throughout the day. I always tried to keep a 3/4 hour schedule and never failed something would happen. And I’d have to stop half way or wait and be in pain. My husband tried to understand but it just wasn’t working with his 12 hr shift work schedule and sleep schedule. Once I stopped I was so beyond shocked at how much stress left my life. It was a huge weight lifter! And especially since pumping made me gain weight like crazy.

Women respond differently to the pump. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Your body is excellent at nursing but pumping was really tough. You did a great job far beyond what a lot of other moms would have done. Most women would have given up when all your drama started at 4 months but you kept on going until you literally had nothing left. That tenacity to provide for Theo carries into other aspects of your mothering and your desire to put his needs before your own supersedes whatever is in his bottle.
I stopped pumping at 7 months for different reasons. Physically I had such an oversupply I could pump 4 times a day and make over 50oz without a problem but mentally I was STRUGGLING. It was the most depressing, disappointed feeling ever and I felt like such a failure as a mother because I couldn’t give birth like I should have and couldn’t nurse. Whew! It’s tough being a new mom sometimes but I feel like these negative experiences give us way more compassion and understanding for each other than before. If we could only go back and tell our pregnant selves some advice, I think it would be to CHILL OUT. Beyond the first year legit nobody cares how “successful” you were at breastfeeding. It’s all consuming in the moment but almost irrelevant later.

I love your channel and videos Victoria, I find them so useful and appreciate the effort you put in! I’d also would love to see you make a video talking about how racism plays into reproductive health and how black people are significantly disadvantaged in this area. I think as white women we need to be raising awareness/ pushing for change xx

Sending you love mama! I was an exclusive pumper. Pumping can be so defeating at times! But girl formula is so much easier!

Mom guilt is so cruel. You fought well for your child. As a mom of three, who breastfed all of my kids for an extended period, I would like to share what worked for me in my first struggle to breastfeed my baby. It was latching him on whenever he wanted it and letting him nurse for as long as he wanted. Pumping was very stressful for me and it is less effective. I just relied on my body to get the idea of how much he really needed. And I remember the days in the beginning when he would nurse super often and seem still hungry after the session, but then after a day like that my body would understand and make more milk. Those days were stressful, but they never lasted long and never had any bad effects on kids' health.

I so appreciate you sharing this. I always say we have 4 kids and fed them all differently for different reasons each time 😊 it's ok to grieve but let go of any guilt! Love it!

Thank you SO much for posting this. I really needed this right now. My son is just barely 3 months old and it sounds like my journey with breastfeeding is pretty much parallel with yours. I have PCOS, which I know can potentially affect supply, and I feel like I have taken every supplement my midwife recommends and done everything “right”, and my supply has never been enough after the first few days when his stomach was super tiny. As soon as I gave him formula he was SO MUCH happier, because he was getting enough in one shot, which made me happier too, and yet I felt guilt and sadness immediately too. It’s a mixed bag, but like you, at the end of the day I feel like all that matters is that my baby is happy and healthy, and formula has helped me check both those boxes. Being gentle on ourselves about this as moms is essential; I had no idea how difficult breastfeeding would be. If I am able to have more kids I also hope to use my knowledge to be able to do more breast milk as well.
Sending love!!! Thanks again for posting this kind of content!

Momma yes! Women who pump, no matter how long, are 💪. I tried and just didn't respond to my pump.
My story, in a nutshell, is I noticed right away that my son had ties. He was having a hard time latching to anything. Long story short, everyone kept passing me off (First time mom). It took me going to a lactation consultant and her glancing at me trying to get him to latch and she was like "oh yes he has ties!". Then my ped listened and gave me the referral for the pediatric dentist that specializes in ties. That dentist took a look and said his tongue tie was so bad that you could see it with the lights off, standing in the other room. He couldn't even stick his tongue out past his lips!
We did get them revised and it was another few weeks of mouth stretches and retraining him how to latch, but by then he wanted nothing to do with boob.
If it wasn't for science milk (formula), neither me nor my son would be alive. I definitely felt guilt for not being able to breastfeed but I am over it now!

My mom only breast fed me for a month, but I consider myself a very healthy human being. I never get sick so maybe it was the fact that I did have some breast milk and my mom ate really healthy during her pregnancy.

I'm breastfeeding and it's going well but ever since I started my mom thinks she doesn't get enough and sometimes gives her formula. She tries to get me to pump but it's not going well and I feel like there's no time because my baby will be ready to eat then. I'm just going to keep breast feeding she just turned 2 months old and I don't sleep enough but everything feel great.

“He’s a pretty cool kid and I like him a lot”. I find it so cute when parents say this kind of stuff about their kids. Like ya of course you love them but I also feel like they’re pretty dope.

How come formula is so expensive in America. It costs me just over £12 a week on high quality organic formula. That’s crazy

As a Black woman I’m keeping all the non-Black you tubers who aren’t using their platforms to spread awareness accountable. I’ve been watching Femmehead and your vlog Channel for years and it’s pretty disappointing to see no mention/call to actions for donations on your platforms.

It is impossible to care about every "cause" on the planet, and shaming someone for ignoring one is pure virtue-signaling.

    • @elib2917
      @elib2917 4 роки тому +3

Nico La I’m not shaming her. Im holding her accountable. I’m disappointed in her lack of allyship. She has a platform that she can use to support something CLEARLY being highlighted all over the media. She can make a difference but at this moment chooses to be silent. Silence speaks volumes. You can’t be pro-femme and ignore issues that Black women deal with on a daily basis. Whether that’s racism through violence, the healthcare system, etc. I am tired of it. Speak up, don’t be silent, don’t only care when an issue only effects you.

I’m also not going to go back and forth on this. Victoria, my name is Erika. I’m a Designer from Portland, OR. I’ve been watching your channel since 2016 I believe. As a Black woman, it was very very disappointing for me to see two of your videos come out with not even a call to action. For me, it felt like, wow, this is what it must be like to not care/not have to care. To be able to ignore and carry on. Sit with this information, or ignore it. I’m just asking for our allies to do more, and do better.
