@@jullieannesanpedro42 Thanks for the question. Start by using cabbage leaves. Place them in the fridge and when they are cold put them on your breasts and keep them there until they are warm and wilted. Some of the chemicals in cabbage help dry up your milk. You can also start drinking peppermint tea which can help. When you take a shower, try to avoid having the warm water hit your breasts because that can stimulate milk production. Finally, ask your doctor if you can take Benadryl. Taking Benadryl for 1 week can really help dry up your milk.
I am about to wean my toddler from breastfeeding. He's 22 months old. The thing is, he doesn't like to drink milk from bottle. Been trying to wean him for two days but he ended up crying last night. Do you have any suggestions or tips for me? Thank you.
@@anitamayangsari8784 Thanks for the question! First, he doesn't need to drink from the bottle. A lot of breastfed toddlers do not like an artificial nipple in their mouth. You can give him his milk in a sippy cup instead which may help. For weaning toddlers I recommend the use of Band-Aids. Before putting him to bed, go to the bathroom alone and put Band-Aids on your nipples. Then start your bedtime routine and sit down with the cup of milk. When your son asks, show him your bandaged nipples and explain that you have a "boo boo" or "owie" or whatever term you use for pain/injury and you can't offer him milk tonight because it will hurt you. Then offer the milk in the cup, keeping your son close while you do. If your son accepts this explanation, which a lot of kids do, continue this practice for a few days. After 3-4 days, don't open your shirt but remind him you can't breastfeed. Continue this until he stops asking. It can take a week or 2 but it really can work! If your son is particularly resistant, you may have to have a family member put your son to sleep for a full week and then start this process. Good luck!
@@TheMaternityMentor My baby is 3 months, I developed a galactocele, engorged breast and its very painful. Can I use cabbage to stop breast milk on the affected side only and let my baby feed on the non affected side? I have plugged ducts on affected side too, should I continue to massage or will that stimulate for milk to come out? Please help!
I lost my baby 3 weeks ago after complications from preeclampsia. I was 6 months and it was my first pregnancy. Thank you for the sensitivity to inculde women like me when you started.
I lost my baby girl at 37 weeks a day before my schedule c section. Now I'm suffering from preclamcia. So I feel your pain, be strong and stay encouraged.
@@oshayia sorry for your loss. Please keep an eye on your blood pressure for a few weeks. I never had blood pressure issues and I had preclamcia. Thank you so much for so much detailed information! ❤ I'm struggling with pumping, no joke, I feel more and more depressed, I need to stop it or I will go nuts 😅 bless every momma there, no matter your reasons ❤
You're welcome! If pumping does not make you feel well, please stop. You're mental health is the most important thing for you, your family, and your baby.
A big THANK YOU for the detailed video, busting myths, and covering medication part. A video like this from a professional helps a lot in the maternity journey.
Thank. YOU! I had a spontaneous delivery at 5 months and lost my son. I spent two nights in the hospital due to POC still present on ultrasound (which I’m still passing 3 days later). With all the monitoring no one told me my milk would come in soon. It came in last night and it is so painful and unexpectedly depressing. My d/c instructions say to call my OB-Gyn for more info on how to dry up milk. . .in 2022 in a city that is a medical hub. . .I’m not sure who has a direct line to a doctor. I needed relief NOW! I went out first thing and bought a pump. I pumped much less than an ounce for relief, but now that I have watched your video I think I will try a the cabbage leaves. I’m so terrified of the healthcare system (and I work in it) that I’m not sure what to do.
I am so sorry this happened. I would also try the Sudafed if you don't have any cardiac issues. Please do not take cabergoline if it is offered to you. It dries up milk fast but it can cause depression. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.
@@TheMaternityMentor thank you so much! I hope you know what a Godsend you are. This is where medicine matters, when people care and can/do help. I will have to give an update. Bless you! Edit: you are literally saving lives.
@@TheMaternityMentor hi the same situation with me. my child death in 8 months of pregnancy due to less water and I gave naturally birth. it's been 1 year still breast milk not stopped. I tried every thing. how can I stop milk. plz help.
@@bntech2822 I am so sorry to hear this is happening. I would ask if you can use Sudafed. Also ice and cabbage leaves. However, if it has been a year, your doctor needs to send you to a specialist called an endocrinologist to run some blood work on you. You may have a hormonal imbalance that is causing this. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.
Thank you so much. I’m a first time mom and my son just turned 11 months. I’m not producing much milk anymore so at this point I would like to start weaning myself from exclusively pumping!
Very useful Thank you. Watching to help my daughter in law as we lost our newborn 4weeks ago and she's still producing. been using cabbage leaves but it's still leaking crazy... Yep she's pumping! Will tell her to stop. Thanks again 🙏
My milk supply started to decrease after my first period (5 month after birth) and by my baby was 8 month old, I did not have enough milk to feed her. She only needed a few feedings until she was hungry enough to accept formula and from there on, I breastfed her with what little I had and then gave formula to her. After a month she was only breastfeeding in the morning, and after another, she only got milk every second day. It has been 4 days I completely stopped breastfeeding and other than some discomfort and fullness of the breasts, I'm doing great so far and hope it stays that way.
Thanks for asking! There is some new research showing that ginger may actually increase your milk supply, so you should not try ginger tea. Best stick with peppermint if you can.
I had my first baby back in 2019 and breasted her for 15 months. I drank no flow tea 3-4 times a day, and used cabbage leaves for weeks and still was producing until several weeks into my SECOND pregnancy in 2021-2022. Lol my second baby is 1 now, and I have produced much less throughout my journey with her, and now that I am weening, I’m doing all the same stuff as last time but with way less engorgement and leaking. I don’t even leak through my shirt without a bra on. Not sure why this happened the second time around but I’m not complaining! Lol

Hi my baby is 20 months old . I really worried about stopping milk . I have milk production need to stop . Cabbage Leaves will help me to stop milk production .?
Thanks for asking! Cabbage leaves have been used for years and really work well. You can also ice your breasts three times per day. In addition, drinking sage tea and peppermint tea can help. Wear a bra 24 hours a day until the milk dries out. Do NOT bind your breasts as this can cause infection and plugged ducts. If the milk is very bothersome, ask your healthcare provider if its ok for you to take Sudafed which can be bought in your local drugstore. Sudafed can help dry up your milk. Good luck! Thanks for asking. Tylenol and Ibuprofen are usually the best. If you choose to take Tylenol, you need to follow the directions on the bottle exactly. Any extra can cause liver failure. Before taking Ibuprofen, you should check with your provider. Ibuprofen shouldn't be taken if you have high blood pressure or kidney problems without a provider's knowledge. Ibuprofen can upset your stomach so make sure to take it with a little food. Some crackers are fine. It doesn't need to be a whole meal. Please remember to like my video and subscribe to the channel. Yes. Just speak with your healthcare provider first to make sure its safe for you. Claritin and Benadryl can both help dry up your milk. Claritin can cause insomnia and a racing heart. Make sure to take as directed. Benadryl can cause sleepiness so don't drive a vehicle or make any major life decisions while taking it. Also take as directed. Remember the alternative treatments are very helpful as well and can be used with the medicine like mint tea, ice, and cabbage leaves
I gradually stopped breastfeeding over a while so I wasn’t getting much milk when I pumped towards the end, so I thought that my milk was drying up anyway. . But it’s been a month since I stopped and I noticed a bump next to my nipple it hurts really bad, I thought it was a pimple or maybe a clogged duct. But i noticed what looked like a tiny hole in the middle. So I tried to squeeze it and it popped and white puss, blood, and a clear liquid came out… but the bump didn’t go down. Now I just have a huge bump that looks like a second nipple and it’s purple and it’s still painful. I did a warm compress but all that did was stimulate my milk again. What do I do?

Hi, thank you for your video. My baby has started sleeping through the night and no longer feeds through the night. It’s been 2 weeks and I’m still waking up with a wet top and bed, rock hard sore boobs. Will my milk supply decrease in the night? I will be continuing to feed in the day. Many thanks 😊
I've been drinking teas to reduce milk production and will need surgery in a week. I stopped completely breastfeeding last night and my breast are only slightly plumped after 12 hrs now. If I get mastitis I will have to breastfeed to remove the clot? Will that put me back on square one?
The body figures out what it’s doing more and more every time. I remember with my first pregnancy I woke up with puddles on my chest, but with the 3rd and 4th, there was no leaking until I started breastfeeding. Maybe the 2nd too, I don’t remember, lol. :)
Thanks for asking! I'm sorry to hear that. The process can take a week or more in some women. She should apply cold cabbage leaves once per hour. She can ice her breast 4 times per day for 20 minutes. Drink peppermint tea. Make sure she is wearing a bra but don't bind her breasts. Binding actually increases the risk of infection and plugged ducts. Finally, talk to her provider about Benadryl. Benadryl can be really helpful in drying up milk.
Thanks for asking! I don't recommend either of these medications because they affect your hormonal system. These medications would need to be monitored carefully by a physician. I would stick to Benadryl or Claritin which is very effective and will not manipulate your hormones.
@@luckysherpa908 I am referring to Benadryl allergy medication. I would avoid Benadryl cough syrup because it probably has other ingredients, specifically to treat a cough, that you don't need to take.

Hello I am trying to stop pumping but when I try to go longer than 3 hours I start feeling pain and I start to get lumps with so much pain how can I stop with out getting lumps and should I keep pumping until the lump is gone?
Thanks for asking! You need to use cold cabbage leaves every hour, drink peppermint tea, and ask your healthcare provider if you can take Sudafed. As far as pumping, if you normally pump every 3 hours, extend it to every 3.5 hours for 3 days, then every 4 hours for 3 days, then every 4.5 hours for 3 days, then every 5 hours for 3 days, etc. This can help your body adjust and helps reduce your milk supply. How can I dry my milk supply cold turkey. I’m on day 3 now, my daughter no longer gets the boob i’ve never pumped she was exclusively only breastfeed on boob only no bottles. I only offer her 4oz water at nap in the day time and also at night. surprisingly it’s been going quite smoothly the first day was the rough one. My boobs are so engorged and i’m barley starting to feel pain today around them. Can i start using the cabbage and just remove every 2 hrs and put new ones in? Thanks in advance! :)
Thanks for the comment! Yes! You can definitely use cabbage leaves every 2 hours. You can also start using mint teas, especially peppermint which can help. Apply ice 3 or 4 times per day in between the cabbage. Benadryl or Claritin can also help to dry up your milk supply fast when taken as directed but make sure to check with your doctor to ensure it's safe for you. If you are engorged, please keep an eye on your breasts. If you see redness or red streaking or develop a painful lump, you need to talk with your doctor because it may be mastitis or a plugged duct which can lead to infection. If this happens, you want to pump and empty your breasts and then continue with all the remedies mentioned above. Also, if you develop a fever with engorgement, that may be mastitis.
@@TheMaternityMentor Thank you for responding! How do i go about the benadryl, do i just take as directed on the bottle? I do feel lumps and when i express it just a little of milk comes out i feel a lump rite on my nipple area is that normal? pain is tolerable enough i just can’t carry my child that’s when i feel the pain. Also, can i leave the same cabbage leaves on for the rest of the day? At night time i don’t want to keep getting up every two hours to change them as i’m barley getting to enjoy sleeping well again since i stopped breastfeeding 😅 Idk how urgent it is to change the cabbage leaves i’m new to all of this and just want to dry up my milk as fast.
@@dianas6396 You're welcome! Yes - take the Benadryl as directed on the bottle. Be aware Benadryl can make you sleepy so it may interfere with work and you may not be able to drive safely. That is why you can also use Claritin. However Claritin 24 hour can cause insomnia. There may also be interactions with other medications you may be taking which is why talking with your provider may help. Definitely don't get up in the middle of the night to change cabbage leaves but during the day change them every 2 hours if you can. Leaving them on longer won't hurt you, they just may not be very effective after 2 hours. Finally, if the lumps are little, you can try to massage them to alleviate the lump. Larger painful lumps are more serious and may require a pumping session to remove.

Hi mam , am struggling to stop milk supply. During night times my daughter is drinking milk continuously . Pls help me to stop milk supply complete . Is there any side effects in taking tablet to stop milk supply doctor advised me to take cabgolin 0.5 .pls help me out
Thanks for asking! Cabergoline has many side effects including dizziness, racing heart, weight gain, nausea and vomiting. I would start by using ice and cabbage leaves on your breasts to assist with drying up your milk supply. Also start offering your daughter a bottle when she wants to breastfeed instead of your breasts. This should hopefully help. That being said, Cabergoline is effective at drying up your breast milk supply. Good luck!
I been drying up my milk for about 10 days now. Using cabbage and claritin. I'm now pumping 1 time a day. Today was my second day pumping one time. I'm also reduce the time. I'm up to 3 mins now pumping more then less then half an ounce now. When can I stop completely? When I'm up to 1 min pumping ??
Thanks for the question! You can wait until 1 minute if you want but I think you can stop today. You have done an excellent job! I would keep up with the cabbage and Claritin for a few more days just to be safe and make sure the milk dries out completely. Great job!
Hi! In trying to dry up my milk as well. Did you only use cabbage and Claritin as methods to drying up or anything else? How did you avoid engorgement or clogged ducts?
You should use Claritin as directed on the package. It can take up to 1 week to dry up milk and is most effective when used with the other remedies like ice and cabbage leaves.
Hi, i have had a breast abscess on my left breast that required surgical incision and drainage. The incision is around the aerola. The wound is yet to close. Baby is unable to latch due to hardened tissue around aerola. I am currently feeding only on right breast. Is it possible to feed only on one breast and dry up the left breast as i have been facing lot of issues with left breast repeatedly
Thanks for asking! Yes - you can absolutely have one breast dry up and feed only from one breast. You can't use any oral supplements to dry up the milk because it will affect both breasts. So what you do is cabbage leaves, ice and no stimulation to that side. Feel better. I'm sorry to hear this is happening. It sounds very scary.

If you are using the cabbage and feeding your baby, there are no side effects to baby. The baby will be ok. If you continue to breastfeed while using cabbage, it may take a couple weeks for the milk to go away. Try to lower the length of time you are breastfeeding per feeding. Every couple days remove 1 breastfeeding for your baby and replace it with a different type of feeding - either formula or baby food depending on how old your baby is. Babies under 6 months should be receiving formula or breast milk only. After 6 months its a mix of baby food and formula. Over a year, it can be table food with milk. Talk with your doctor about the type of milk but I have seen cow's milk, goats milk and nut milks used. Let me know if you have any other questions.
@@salinathapa1850 You're welcome! Slowly remove some of the breastfeeding sessions and replace with formula feedings. Every 3 or 4 days if you can. It will take 2 to 3 weeks to wean but it reduces the risk of plugged ducts and mastitis.
hey.my boy is turning 3 on september and he still breastfeed,i want to stop him especially at night he breastfeed like nobody business,if i try to stop him he cries and wakes up,i really want to stop him please help.
Thanks for asking! This is very difficult for most parents. First, it is going to involve a lot of tears. There is just no way around this. I would recommend you put bandaids on your nipples and explain you have a "boo boo" or "ouchy" and you cannot breastfeed. At his age, he should understand this concept. Then at night, continue your bedtime routine as usual. Use positive reinforcement when he is coping well. You may need to use bandaids for a few weeks until he gradually forgets to ask. Stay strong! There will be times he cries and you will need to say no. It should get better. within a week.
That's an excellent question! Drying up your milk supply should not affect your milk supply in your next pregnancy. In fact our bodies usually get better at making milk with each new baby. However, things sometimes happen. I have worked with women that for a variety of reasons including their baby being sick or in the NICU, retained placenta, and more - the breast milk was delayed. If this should happen to you, be sure to seek help right away. It was not caused by drying up your milk previously but instead probably has another cause. Also feel free to check out my video on increasing your milk supply for your next baby!
92 I had my daughter and 93 I had my son I both breast-feed them together so they were 2 1/2 years old and then I just quit cold turkey was on my medication then 2004 had my son my third kid breast-fed him for 2 1/2 years and went cold turkey now it's been 30 years and I can't get my boobs to stop producing milk I squeeze them with my hand. I put cabbage on them, and I don't know what to do because I know I have massive ciders, and probably even further than that. Please help.

The Maternity Mentor great but how long it will take to dry up the milk? Cold cabbage leaves I can store in the fridge n use it? How many times in day? Please clarify
@@tsv2031 You can use the cabbage leaves every 2 to 3 hours. You wash the leaves first and dry them. Then place in fridge until cold. After that you apply to breasts and remove when they are wilted. As for how long it takes to dry up milk, everyone is different. It depends on how long you have been producing breast milk for and how robust your supply is. Most women can dry up their supply in 3-7 days.

Thanks for the question. Using peppermint tea or cabbage leaves is totally safe. Using techniques like decreasing number of times you breastfeed or length of time you breastfeed is also safe. If you decide to use Benadryl, you should speak with your healthcare provider first.
Hello madam, for me I have lost my baby immediately after birth and I have a lot of breast milk, with rock breasts. What can help me to dry up faster?? Thank you
I am so sorry to hear this has happened. Ask you doctor if you can take Sudafed. Sudafed can quickly dry up your milk. Use lots of ice and cold cabbage leaves. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.
I want to stop breast feeding and my child also forgot about milk but my breast are tender heavy ad in pain plzz tell me something to dry up milk fast plzz
Hello dear, I have started to stop feeding my 1.6yr kid. It's very tender with clogged ducts, had mastitis once. Kindly suggest me what should I do it's very painful n engorged.
Thanks for asking. I would hand express or pump some milk off. If you try to stop too quickly, that can happen. Apply warm compresses to the clogged ducts and massage them before pumping. You need to pump once until the breasts are soft. Then, the next time they fill empty most of the milk but not all. Use cold compresses and cabbage leaves. If you develop a fever or feel very ill, you need to contact your doctor
What options do I have for drying up milk if I’m pregnant? My supply is already low and I’m just pumping 2 times a day 8 minutes both sessions. But how can I dry it up faster? Just the cabbage?
Thanks for asking. For starters, I would stop pumping. That will help significantly. Then use the ice 3 to 4 times per day as well as the cabbage leaves. You can also ask your doctor if you are able to use Sudafed. That can help as well. Good luck.
Thank you for the great video! I am t rying to dry up my supply after 16 months exclusively pumping. I have one question for you though, I am trying to gradually drop pumps and shorten the length of pumps I am doing (I am down to 2 ppd now). Does hand-expressing milk also result in stimulating your body to produce more ( the same as pumping)? If, for instance, I hand-express some milk in the hot shower, will that encourage my body to produce more just as pumping would? Thank you again for the great video and sharing your information.
Thanks for asking. Hand expression can be very effective and very stimulating for some women. Breastfeeding and the production of breastmilk is a very natural process. Breastmilk is produced by hormones that respond to sight, scent, sound, and touch. Therefore, hand expression is sometimes even more effective than pumping. Studies have shown that early hand expression can actually increase your milk supply. Hot showers can also stimulate milk production. If you are looking to switch from pumping to hand expression, try it. It might be a great last step for you. If you find your milk increasing, decrease the time and use lots of cabbage leaves and ice. Please like my video if you don't mind and subscribe to the channel. It really helps me out. Thank you!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Start with using lots of ice. Ice help the inflammation and milk making production. Keep cabbage leaves in her bra all the time, changing them every 2 hours. Finally, ask you healthcare provider about using Benadryl which can dry milk up fast.
Hello, thank you so much for doing this video! Question as I’m a bit confused 😣 I pump 6 times a day for 15minutes each session. I’ve dropped the pumping time to 12 minutes on all sessions and aiming to continue dropping the time on a weekly basis. I’m struggling to know when should I “drop a session”..when I get that session down to 5 minutes? But all the other sessions will also be down to 5 minutes. Many thanks 🙏🏽
@@TheMaternityMentor many thanks for getting back to me ❤️ I’ve done it, it was uncomfortable but getting better. This Friday I’ll be reducing the remaining 5 pumping sessions to 8 minutes and attempt to drop a second morning session. Wish me luck! & Thank you again!

Hello, I'm currently 7 months post partum. I had twins, I did not breastfeed, but somehow my body continues to produce milk here and there. How can I stop the uterine contractions? I continue to have them especially when my body tries to produce milk. It hurts like a beast, to me that pain is worst than labor itself. I would like to know how to permantly stop producing milk and after pains. They feel like electric shocks, and my body is hot, running mood swings, and have thirsts. I tried all of the things listed and even when stressed I produce or when relaxed. It's insane how the body works. Im thinking that bc i have 2 crying babies it produces continual milk. Im going crazy, my periods are totally off, i dont get one month thr next i get it in 2 weeks and so forth. Any advise helps.
Thanks for asking! I am sorry to hear this is happening. This sounds very stressful. You need to see your healthcare provider and have hormonal testing done. You may have too much prolactin which is causing this continued production. You may also be experiencing thyroid issues. Please see a healthcare provider and ask them to assess you. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

Good luck!

Hi , stop breastfeeding is very painful for me , can you suggest any medication for pain relief
Make sure to take as directed. Benadryl can cause sleepiness so don't drive a vehicle or make any major life decisions while taking it. Also take as directed.

Thanks for asking! It may take a little while for this to decrease. I would go to sleep at night wearing cabbage leaves to see if that helps.
Hi how did you stop feeding baby at night. Mines keeps waking up for feeds.
I've been drinking teas to reduce milk production and will need surgery in a week. I stopped completely breastfeeding last night and my breast are only slightly plumped after 12 hrs now. If I get mastitis I will have to breastfeed to remove the clot? Will that put me back on square one?
I'm sorry to hear this happened. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.
The body figures out what it’s doing more and more every time. I remember with my first pregnancy I woke up with puddles on my chest, but with the 3rd and 4th, there was no leaking until I started breastfeeding. Maybe the 2nd too, I don’t remember, lol. :)

To day is day 3, since my wife start stop my baby . But milk has not yet drying up.. please!. Help me.
Can i take dostinex Or cabergoline to stop my breastmilk because iam not breastfeeding. Anymore I don't have baby anymore.
Thanks for asking! I don't recommend either of these medications because they affect your hormonal system. These medications would need to be monitored carefully by a physician. I would stick to Benadryl or Claritin which is very effective and will not manipulate your hormones.
U mean benadryl cough syrup or
@@luckysherpa908 I am referring to Benadryl allergy medication.

Feel better!

Thanks for asking. I am sorry to hear this is happening. Be sure to feed your baby often for the next few days so the baby isn't hungry.

Hi , my left breast is not producing milk the right side only what can I do?
Are you trying to dry up your milk or increase your supply? If you are trying to dry up your milk and you still have milk only in breast, you need to contact your healthcare provider and have them examine you and order an MRI to determine what might be causing that.
Great job!

If I use the cabbage and my baby feed the milk have any side effect or no and how many days after dry the milk please can u suggest me
If you are using the cabbage and feeding your baby, there are no side effects to baby.
Thank you so much and my baby is under 6 month and I have to go on the work that's y I want to stop the breast feeding
Any problems in milk production after next delivery? Please reply.

Thank you!
