Brilliant on the tin whistle. Aswel as world class on the fiddle . Pure talent
Yes john sheehan asgood onwhistle as fiddle!
Now that's some mighty fine whistling.
Fucking beautiful bit of whistle, the dubliners were a fantastic group of musicians and story tellers, and all around decent lads.Hats off to John Sheehan for this lovely couple of tunes.
Back in the day a Generation whistle was the thing to play. I still love the sound of them.
For a $12 whistle it’s still the bees knees I love my Eb almost as much as my Killarney Eb.
@@jettimite Hi Shane, I trawled through ebay for a year or two and was lucky enough to find some of the pre 1983 Generation whistles, I have all the available keys in a mixture of brass and nickel except the high G which is way too small for me to play comfortably. There are some great whistles among them. I have a Killarney D, these old Generations stand up well compared to the Killarney even though the sound is very different. You can tell the older Generation whistles by a line that runs up the mouthpiece. If ever you see one on ebay snap it up.
What are the difference between pre 83 generation whistles and todays new versions?
@@turcarumimperator1395 In the early 80s Generation changed the manufacturing process for making the plastic mouthpiece. As far as I know they used to use a two piece mold so you had a line running up the mouthpiece where the two halves joined together. After they changed it was a single mold so the mouthpiece is smooth. Of course you can still get a new Generation whistle that is very good but they do vary in quality so it is a bit of a lottery as to what you'll get. With the old system they were consistently good. I have a few of the older ones and all of them play very well and sound wonderful but I can't say the same thing about the newer ones in my collection.
@@Reeldin58 thank you.

My favourite Dubliners album has always been "Live at Montreux" from 1976. John plays the same selection as here. Never thought I'd see actual footage from that time.

this is soo great 👌
How can someone do something so beautiful with just a tiny tiny instrument like that ... O-ô
+Kae NotUrBusiness I've been doing the same for years...
+rockstoneballs Well... good for you :-)
talent, and practice
I feel I need to reiterate that I was making a dick joke.
the basic melody is still nice but u use "Ornamentation" to make it chirp and sound like a bird in a way. the whole melody will change and sound like its on steroids. you can play this song on a recorder but it wont sound anything like how john is playing it. very fun instrument and big stress reliever. All i want to do when i get home from work is play my whistle :)
Magnifique !
His best performance in my opinion!!
Sounds great after 40 years.
what are the chords and strumming pattern for that bitta rhythm, Jim is playing there?? Deadly stuff, altogether!! RIP to every one of them! Heroes of mine
John Sheahan is still with us.

@GPALL52 Yep, it's Eb
Its called Dohertys reel if you'd like to find it in the correct key
yeeee haaaaa
@synthpathetic Sounds like he just did a simple trill on that F#. When I play this reel on whistle I do the same ornament.
Any one know what key whistle John is playin is it Eb or E just curious????.Glenn Pall in New York
Hi, the real titles, are doherty's reel, down the broom and the honeymoon reel.
Thanks for posting
Thank you!
The first tune also goes by the name: The Wise Maid
which key/whistle is this in? i only have a C
@synthpathetic Why? Will it ruin your impression of the performance, if someone dislikes it?
Keep practicing dont worry bout speed when u get used to playing the music flows keep nice steady pace and youl get there
It's Doherty's Reel, I have this selection also on a record, John Sheahan is not playing here the Wise Maid.
Ah he's only playing that because he's brilliant. Anyone who's brilliant could do the same. Perhaps talented too. Maybe a real feel and love for the music. OK anybody Brilliant and Talented with a real feel and love for the music could do the same. Oh and a big beard too. They would need a big beard...... 😄
Does anyone know where we can find those ornements ?? (For the wise maid !!)
How are you doing today my name is Eric

It's the same tune. It's normally known as the Wise Maid but The Dubliners' label it on their albums as Doherty's. So you're all right

Wise Maid is the first one
what the songs that he played called?
Wise maid is the first one
😎👏🇮🇪💚
This is soooooo 1970s
01:14 These Irish traditional whistle songs remind me a lot of our Romanian traditional whistle songs. Common Celtic heritage. BIG LIKE from Romania!
The music played here has nothing to do with "the celts." It originated in the early modern period (16th/17th century) in country dance music.
@@andrewwigglesworth3030 And where does that music have its' roots into?
Fuck,hvor er det fed musik
don't you mean the 'reel' titles? :P
You just can't keep your feet still
Is it a Bb whistle ? So gooooooooood !
A little late but i think it may be a G or F because the small size
Eb lads
@@dakotamiller1722 its a G, too small.
looks like a generation whistle,..in the key of d..and sounds like it as its my favorite make ,even though its english made ,still good...

He's what for his age?
"Isn't he great for his age"
better than "Adderal" for ADHD or Depression, no Rx either.
Maid behind the bar and I think the second tune is the Swallow tail but don't quote me on that.
Down the broom??? Sounds to me more like Congress reel... maybe tunes with the same name ;)
Blabla
I'm pretty sure this video is sped up. It's a key higher than the recording, and seems impossibly fast....still enjoyable though!
You don't have much experience of tin whistle players do you. :-D
Hats off to anyone who can play crappy generation whistles like this
