I was in another room a few minutes ago when I heard the sound of the whistle and instantly recognised the brilliant John Sheahan. Came rushing in to let the music flow over me as it has so many times before. God bless you John and God rest the boys who've left us.

Sad to say this era has passed and the Dubliners are no more but it is great we can listen to them on UA-cam, it keeps the music alive for me.

John is an absolute legend. Plays the fiddle superbly and also the tin whistle superbly. Such talent.

Die DUBLINERS. Ich mag sie alle. Haben bis ins hohe Alter ihr Bestes gegeben. Ein Glück, dass wir jederzeit ihre Lieder, ihre Musikstücke hören und auch sehen können. ..

Can you imagine that the last time I saw the Dubliners was 1964 in St Johnsbury Vermont? Can't believe how old they are?

Pretty sure it is a Chieftain high D (very inexpensive for a professional instrument, but expensive for a tin whistle). That said, he is the one making it sound amazing, he plays generation whistles (cheap and of varying quality) in many of his older recordings, sounds equally great.

@@All4Grogg It's not a Chieftain, it's an Overton. Its design (the head/fipple) is rather different.

I though Honeysuckle Hornpipe/Wonder Hornpipe/The Congress Reel was my favorite, but after hearing a tin whistle version of The Belfast Hornpipe // The Swallow's Tail, I think later is my favorite tune combination.
P.S. Of course Irish Washerwoman tops the lot and is out of comparison.
