Holy COW! Finally! Someone shows how to make the perfect/neatest lines so it doesn’t look crazy! Every time I move my hand when I’m drawing it squiggles so bad.
SuperiorStar there are 2 ways to fix this, one way is to enable streamline for your art tool by just pressing on the brush symbol on the upper right corner of procreate screen and method 2 is to just practice
this size is so crazy to me since i’ve never had to go this big using my wacom drawing tablet. can i resize the artwork on a different app on my computer and hopefully keep the resolution quality??
I appreciate you saying that you will draw and undo a bunch of times to get the exact lines that you want. That actually was one thing that was making me really frustrated.
3:50: redo and undo over and over again... this is where a vector program like Concepts REALLY shines.... just select the line you just drew and move, skew or enlarge/decrease as needed to fit your underdrawing... no degradation because it is a vector! Really wish Procreate was a vector app instead of pixel for selecting and adjusting like this!
Vectors have their own issue where they look too clean and unnatural, so I dont think it would be the best option for an illustration application. IMO the best compromise would be to have a vector function that gives you the option for vectors the way photoshop and clip do.
I already bought an iPad pro and I was thinking about this cuz I use lazy nezumi for a perfect and smooth line, so this is perfect for start all my drawing in 1 device! Thank u so much! 😊😊
Ah ha ! Makes sense , will try this . Thanks so much , for this tip and demonstration ! Very quick and easy video 💫👌 and before I found this , the “making confident strokes” thing was helping , but when I needed to try and focus on areas and zoom in even if my hand was pretty steady I could see the wiggles lol when zoomed out it’s not noticeable but I’m new to digital medium and procreate and I don’t want to have bad habits like that and want to be sure and satisfied that I’m mastering things with time . Plus when I see other artists demonstrate their line work it’s like super crisp even if they are working quickly so I was like oh heck no there has to be a way I just have to find it and figure it out and practice too lol thanks so much !
It is my thinking and perhaps it is not, and I hope those who know correct me;BUT I THINK THAT THE LINES MUST BE MADE ACCORDING TO THE TESTURE OF WHAT WE ARE DRAWING.IN THIS CASE IT WOULD BE IRREGULAR EDGE LINES AS THE SKIN OF THE DINOSAURS IS A THICK SKIN AND ROUGH ON SOME SIDES AND SOFT AND SMOOTH ON OTHER SIDES ..I always try to analyze the shapes and components of the models to follow, be it a bird, horse, dinosaurs or people, and as shown by the model then it started.I do not pretend to be exact with the model, but I always try to respect the simple lines to honor what the model showed me. Thanks for such an excellent class.
Thank you Austin! This is the video i needed to see! I do digital Illustration and one thing i would have a problem with is line weight. Appreciate you explaining it clear! 💯
I can’t find the “studio brush” is it the “studio pen” under inking pens? Then you tweak it to how you like it? I’m a newbie, the most frustrating part is learning how to use this app well.
So I have only played with Procreate in Apple Stores. I'm trying to determine still if Procreate offers enough for me to get an Ipad Pro over a Wacom MobileStudio Pro. When I was trying to draw in Procreate, it not only did line weight with the pressure sensitivity, but it also (even with the bush/pen at 100% opacity on the slider bar to the left of the screen where you control brush size as well) had variant opacity- the color would be darker the harder I pressed and lighter the lighter I pressed. How do I turn this off for inking, so it only does line weight when outlining drawings like you see in this video? :O
So.. basically 1.- play with streamline 2.- Confident Strokes 3.- line weight variants but... things I dont commonly hear about neat lines or avoid pixeling in "vector-like" strokes are: 1.- What canvas size are you using? 2.- What if the person watching doesnt have the same Illustration knowledge (names of the things you are doing/using) 3.- What if we have another app version (which I do) is there an updated version? 4.- what are the best brushes to use besides that? 5.- is there a beter modified brush? and how do I make it? 6.- what are the meaning of every single thing in the brush settings????? 7.- I already forgot the rest of the questions I was thinking about hahahaha so..... I love this video because its short and precise, but.. I need more help :( I think I am not good enough to understand such simple and basic instructions that you are gifting us... u_u I feel lost.
Great tutorial! Subscribed... any tutorials on scrollwork. I'm learning engraving on jewelry especially rings that I make. Would like to draw and save on Procreate or other app you might think would be better for that type of design.
This is a great tutorial. I'm currently using Adobe Illustrator on iPad to do my lineart (because I like resizing with vectors if I need to) and exporting into procreate, but that app is pretty limited so it will be great to start drawing that out in procreate instead. Does anybody have any advice on getting a taper towards the end of the stroke? I'm not very good with the brush setups and I don't like my stroke ending without a taper personally.
Would have been cool to see you ink that from start to finish tbh. But thanks, good info! im new to procreate andcwas wondering why my line was straightening up and moving while I was drawing..lol
Hi Austin, Do you use or have any sort of screen protector on your IPad? I want to protect my iPad's screen, but I've read where tempered class protectors can hinder the use of the iPencil. Thansk
Question. When I do my artwork, I often scan it from paper. It's a decent size, but at the same time, it's too small to actually get any lineart done, so I'd have to enlarge the whole image. However, when I'm done with the lineart, the image is too big and I'd have to resize it again, which can make the lineart look a little bit off. Is there any way around this?
Wonderful Video! I just bought 2 of Your courses in Udemy (Cell Shading and Creature Design!) any chance of a video on that Trex? It's amazing in and of itself!!!
Gamer Jp 1604 in an update around Xmas for Photoshop CC 2018, there is a feature like this now. If you don't have Photoshop CC, there is an app/plugin called Lazy Nezumi that is really powerful
Do u think this could work on an iphone 6s plus? I really wanna purchase the app but im afraid that the my phone screen would be too small for drawing plus i dont use a pen. I wanna use the app for revision notes
smells s I'm not sure I've never used it on a phone. I've seen some pretty amazing work that people have done on it before though. I'd imagine if you're just using it for design notes that you'd be fine.

one thing many people forget is that a BIG canvas is important. If it’s too small the inking will never be crisp. 2000x2000 pixels is my minimum.
electronicpuppets 2k is pretty small, i only use this size for sketchung
Thanks for the tip!
I use 4000*3000! I have the 2018 iPad 6th generation 9.7 inch
Yes! I usually do a 4000x5000 canvas but I also do to 3000x4000
this size is so crazy to me since i’ve never had to go this big using my wacom drawing tablet. can i resize the artwork on a different app on my computer and hopefully keep the resolution quality??
The intro music was still way too loud when you started talking-made it very difficult to hear you.
Reks thanks for the heads up.
Reks who cares? Just watch it.
Who gives a fuck about what u hoots say watch out
Exactly.. What a Herb!
I agree. I was overwhelmed...
Dude thank you soooo much! Just got Procreate and my wiggly lines were driving me insane!
I appreciate you saying that you will draw and undo a bunch of times to get the exact lines that you want. That actually was one thing that was making me really frustrated.
Oh. The streamlined setting is what's doing that! Thanks, saves me playing trial and error for hours with the settings.
also decrese the start and end stroke taper so the start of the line isnt always very thin and if you have to continue the line will be easier.
Javsamca it’s still does that for me :( do you another solution to share?🙏
You might want to crank up the music's volume a bit in the intro to really make an impact.
It’s at a 3 we need it at an 11.
Just got Procreate and these videos are a lifesaver
Great video! Being new to digital art, it’s really demotivating opening up procreate and not being able to do anything
I’ve started learning line are on procreate, because I’ve transitioned from paper to iPad this helped a lot... even if it was 3 years ago 😂
This helped so much. This was the thing I struggled with the most
Terrific Tips! The Streamline setting is going to change the game for me. Thanks!
Love your tutorials! I’m a complete iPad Pro - Procreate - n00b and your videos give me wings! :)
I laughed when you mentioned, uniform strokes look like coloring book, thats what ive been doing.
dude this literally answered my struggle of line art on here. thank you so much
Inking is always the WORST for me, but I really enjoyed the video, and I'm glad you shared these tips and tricks! They have helped me out loads.
Have you tried the "Graphic" app?

That would be great if procreate was a vector program but it would cost a fortune
This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks!
Almost contemplated just using vectors to finish my lineart, but this is exactly what I wanted.
I already bought an iPad pro and I was thinking about this cuz I use lazy nezumi for a perfect and smooth line, so this is perfect for start all my drawing in 1 device! Thank u so much! 😊😊

I really enjoyed this tutorial. Short and to the point
Thanks Austin this helped me a lot !
Ok I had no idea about streamline. Now shit actually works. Thanks genius.
Thank you so much!! It helped me solve what was bothering me about my art in procreate and now i new feel less stuck :)
OMG - thanks tons for the streamline info... I had zero clue and this makes my cartooning in Procreate 10 times better off the bat! :)
You: confident strokes are key
Me: I am the definition of a nervous wreck
Thanks for the shoutout!
Mike Henry no problem! Thanks for all the great content you make!
All I needed to be told was the fact that there's a line smoothing tool
hey austin ! i really like the the thumb covers as well as the art videos and your tutorials really help :D
Ayush Bhatt thanks!
Any idea how to fix lines that are pixelated? I've tried adjusting the canvas size with no luck.
is your screen really small?
That's a neat trick with the stream line! Subbed

Hello Austin great tutorial on line art. I barely use the streamline. It just depends in what style I am inking. Keep up the great videos!
Thank you Austin! This is the video i needed to see! I do digital Illustration and one thing i would have a problem with is line weight. Appreciate you explaining it clear! 💯

Omg I was having such a hard time making clean lines! Thanks a bunch!😀
But how do you get the thinner smaller lines like inside your dino?
This helps a lot but, my setup is a little weird, is there any work around for more controlled line weight on a vertical iPad in procreate?
So I have only played with Procreate in Apple Stores. I'm trying to determine still if Procreate offers enough for me to get an Ipad Pro over a Wacom MobileStudio Pro. When I was trying to draw in Procreate, it not only did line weight with the pressure sensitivity, but it also (even with the bush/pen at 100% opacity on the slider bar to the left of the screen where you control brush size as well) had variant opacity- the color would be darker the harder I pressed and lighter the lighter I pressed. Very helpful, great vid.
what do you suggest for anime drawings
The feathery lines would have worked out well with a dinosaur. 😉
Also I tend to zoom in quite a bit with lineart, for some reason in helps me
Been waiting years for the streamline. Previously I would have to export it into artstudio for inking
So.. basically
1.- play with streamline
2.- Confident Strokes
3.- line weight variants
but... things I dont commonly hear about neat lines or avoid pixeling in "vector-like" strokes are:
1.- What canvas size are you using?
2.- What if the person watching doesnt have the same Illustration knowledge (names of the things you are doing/using)
3.- What if we have another app version (which I do) is there an updated version?
4.- what are the best brushes to use besides that?
5.- is there a beter modified brush? and how do I make it?
6.- what are the meaning of every single thing in the brush settings?????
7.- I already forgot the rest of the questions I was thinking about hahahaha
so..... I love this video because its short and precise, but.. I need more help :( I think I am not good enough to understand such simple and basic instructions that you are gifting us... u_u I feel lost.
Dude I never knew about streamline. Thanks!
I swear I looked for that before but maybe I was looking for 'fidelity' which I think it what it's referred to in Adobe products.
thank you so much, this is the only video that helped me
New to this Channel.. Great..!! Glad i found it, very Good Content and helpful..!!
nice, is there a new course coming or is this getting added to your already existing course?
Tibi Éliás I'm working on a creature design course as my next one. It will be out next month
Awesome, can't wait to see it!
Nice video. Thanks. Do you rotate canvas when you draw in procreate?
Hi Austin, do you rest your palm or lift it when stroking for inking?
Great tutorial! Subscribed... any tutorials on scrollwork. I'm learning engraving on jewelry especially rings that I make. Would like to draw and save on Procreate or other app you might think would be better for that type of design.
For me i have a different digital pen and I have no idea how to get line weight with it so thats why I have trouble
Would heightening the streamline make drawing fur easier or more difficult?
This helped a lot, thank you!
This is a great tutorial. I'm currently using Adobe Illustrator on iPad to do my lineart (because I like resizing with vectors if I need to) and exporting into procreate, but that app is pretty limited so it will be great to start drawing that out in procreate instead.

Are you using any protection for display?
whats the brush used for that rough sketch
Really helpfull, great job 😃✌🏼
Would have been cool to see you ink that from start to finish tbh. But thanks, good info! im new to procreate andcwas wondering why my line was straightening up and moving while I was drawing..lol
procreate and artstudio pro are quite amazing.
Could you show us how you drew that T Rex from scratch?
THANK YOU!!!! This is DEFINITELY going to help 😂
Are you using a screen protector?
is there any shortcut for horizontal flip ?
Could you make a video specifically on when to use a greater line weight vs a thinner line weight?
Hi Austin, Do you use or have any sort of screen protector on your IPad? I want to protect my iPad's screen, but I've read where tempered class protectors can hinder the use of the iPencil. Thansk
how do u change the opacity of the origins picture (the one u trace over)

Question. When I do my artwork, I often scan it from paper. It's a decent size, but at the same time, it's too small to actually get any lineart done, so I'd have to enlarge the whole image.

thank you so much !! that helped me a lot!!

Hey bro are u still updated with the os? Is the streamline feature still available in ios11/procreate 4? If so can you please tell how to activate it
thank you for reminding me about the streamline! i'm an idiot.. no wonder why it looked so bad
Awesome life a hack dude you r big hellp 👌

OMG THAANK YOU I DIDNT KNOW AABOUT THE STREAM LINE
How to make your sketch invisible after inking?
You gotta ink on a different layer so you can toggle the visibility of the first w/o affecting the inked one.
@@jorzoart thank you very much
