Love yo yo ma. Should check out his kennedy center honor. James taylor and he collaborated on a cover of the beatlea here comes the son. James plays it. Worth it just for the look on mr. Ma's face
Debbie Allen (famous dancer/choreographer, played the dance teacher on the TV show Fame) was the woman who went to church there at the end, and in the uncut version ( this part was missing sections) Bonnie Raitt is rocking out in the audience as well. Stephen Colbert is there as well, so yeah, they were performing in front of quite a who's who audience.
The drummer is Jason Bonham John Bonham son. The bowler hats is a tribute to his father John. Robert Plant says this is the best cover of Stairway to Heaven he's heard. Can you imagine giving this performance in front of not only the band who made it but also your childhood idols. The sisters idolized Led Zeppelin growing up. This is from the Kennedy Center Honors program that honored Zeppelin for their contributions to music.
Wasnt this something to see, and hear?! Happy you reacted to it. Robert's tears say a lot. Reflecting back on life is a two edged sword. And this performance alone, with Jonhs son on the drums, the derby hats, the choir and Ann's voice is enough to bring a grown man to tears..a woman too!😥
Don't forget John Paul Jones. He is a big part of the led zeppelin. No one ever talks about him. He could play Amy instrument you put in front of him mult- talented. He is the shy one of the band.
How do you look at your own legacy. Perfectly summed up. Gorgeous performance. The layers are epic. Everyone bringing that A game. Even Obama was shook.
Not only was this performance perfect in every possible human way. But every camera angle and moment to deliver the live experience to us via video was absolutely perfect. While I couldn’t even imagine what it would be like in that center while it was being performed live, kudos to the production crew for mixing together some of the most unbelievably perfectly timed angles and moments to put it all together. I’m not even sure if I would want to see a multi cam because this version has given me chills every single of the at least 100 times that I’ve watched it already …but then again, of course I would! I want more!!!!
I just ran upon this reaction and have no clue how I've missed it but this is the greatest cover I've ever heard of Stairway To Heaven . And tell me our President and Wife didn't know how to Frickin ROCK !!!!
Beautiful reaction to a tribute done in front of legends by legends...loved it. No pressure there... Can't think of any others that could pulled that off.
Every once in a while, from all across the music spectrum, a musician has a song that is so timeless, legendary and meaningful to humanity that it just breaks all barriers. This is one of those songs and you've caught that feeling.
This is what a tribute to rock royalty should look like. The musical arrangement is spectacular. Ann Wilson rocked out on this 🤘🏾It's definitely one of my favorite live performances 👏🏽
Heart used to end all their concerts with a Zep cover. One night early in their career Jimmy Page was in the audience. He went backstage after & told them they had his personal permission to cover any of Zep's songs anytime. 😮
The longer piece, where the entire Led Zeppelin segment of the Kennedy Center Honors is shown, is worth watching. It starts with Jack Black saying a few words, then narrating a video package of the band's history. Then several acts perform their songs, ending in this one.
I play the Kennedy Center Clip at least once a week. LZ is famous for denying rights to their music. This lady is one of the few who gets permission often. My dad's a huge Heart fan, so i grew up with it. Her voice is unchanged in *30 years*. You get a standing ovation from Led Zeppelin when you perform one of their songs for them? That's something you can take to the bank.
I've seen this performance many times! Always brings a tear...Led Zeppelin my personal favorite band...but also the Kennedy Center has honered so many great artist's over time. Please take time to check it out!
The smiles, the smiles, the joyous smiles on the entire choirs face, the great arrangement, the musicians, the vocals and Robert's tears. Jason Bonham tricked the band by telling them he couldn't be at the event, then he came out to play, in his dad's hat on his dad's drums. John Bonham was Robert's best friend and so seeing the grown up version of your late friend on stage playing your classic song with the band who your group were almost like mentors too, is what I'm sure moved Robert to tears 😂 Do check out the full event and do check out the other versions of this performance in you tube, you get to see other shots of the crowd getting into it and a slightly different perspective. Oh, have I just admitted to watching this too much ❤️
They Kennedty Center Usually honors 3 artists every year, that's why there were so many big names in the crowd. Just before this performance, they honored Buddy Guy, guess how does one of the tribute songs to him?? Beth Hart and Jeff Beck perform I'd Rather Go Blind!!! It gets a standing O. Other fun facts about this performance.... Nancy Wilson was 62 at the filming of this, (couldn't believe that when I heard it, she looks fantastic!) Robert Plant was holding back the tears, at first I thought he was just being grouchy, since Jimmy was smiling ear to ear the entire song. Plant and John Bonahm were kindred spirits, they were very close, and he said later that seeing Jason up there really tore at his heart strings. Nancy said at the after dinner, she was flattered by all the accolades she received, but was only interested in not letting Robert Plant down. Plant approached her before desert and they shook hands and he paused for a second and said, I've always thought that song was dreadful. Nancy almost started crying, Plant noticed and said, OH NO dear, I thought it was dreadful over the years when people would try to cover it, and never do the song justice, tonight I finally heard it done justice, he kissed her hand and walked off. She said she could've died a happy woman right there..lol.
@@sunshynff No problem, I do the same, lol. I did enjoy reading your comment & had not heard that story. Ann has a UA-cam channel & still does some small venue appearances. Her voice sounds as good today at 70 as it did at 62, lol. ✌️☮️
@@sunshynff Lol, me too, I’ve got you beat on the age thing by… let’s say a few years, but being happy & healthy is what’s important. If you’re going to ver the most requested song hon rock history in front of the surviving members and the President you better have some serious chops. Their voices are amazing and I guess if you have a choir, use a choir! Even Yo-Yo Ana in the audience was rocking out. Phenomenal performance.
Doesn't matter how many times I see this, it still gives me goosebumps, and so emotional, when I see Robert tear up 💗 Such a beautiful tribute, & loved your reaction!!!
Did you ever watch this entire tribute? Lenny plays a song….it’s beautiful for music nerds and regular humans too❤️ There’s also a whole concert from 2008 called Celebration Day- Jason Bonham is on drums. It’s a master class in live performances from these legends. Definitely well worth the time when you want to just let music take you somewhere…..Led Zeppelin does take you. Their music hits your ears….that’s it- everyone wants more after one song- any song from them.❤️🎶❤️
I have watched this tribute so many times and everytime I get teary-eyed. But in a good way, the choir part is my favorite part and when she shreds her voice at that high note towards the end.
The Asian guy rocking out is Yoyo Ma, the greatest cello player in the world. Steven Colbert is sitting right behind him. All there, along with the Obamas to honor this greatest of rock legends. Heart did an incredibly amazing job with this, and it is a masterpiece now in its own right!!!!
Ann was 62 and Nancy 58. They both have singles out now. In 2019 they had a tour from July 9 to October 13 with two weeks off and a day or two in between until the last two weeks of September. The tour is called Love Alive Heart tour. Ann will be 71 this year and Nancy turns 67 in March.Heart was on tour in Florida at this time.
The Foo Fighters were okay. Lenny Kravitz killed it w/"A Whole Lotta Love," should check that performance out. Heart was great. Ann, great singer, Nancy can play guitar better than a lot of men. I agree, for the love of god, skip the Kid Rock performance. "Ramble On" is one of my favorite Zep songs and he f#@ked that one up. You can also see it in the look on their faces. I love their reactions, which told you a lot and it told me they loved Heart and Lenny. Kid Rock, not so much.
At the time, they were 62 and 58 and blew the House down! Only Ann Wilson could do it justice with The President, The First Lady and Led Zeppelin in the audience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - NO PRESSURE AT ALL!
I’m sure this is already on the comments but you should check out the full version of this. CBS had to cut out spots for time…the full version has a longer guitar solo…more song versus etc. It’s worth the look. ❤️❤️
One of the great live performances on youtube. The son of the original drummer John Bonham did his dad proud. If you haven't already you gotta listen to some Heart songs (the Wilson sisters) like Magic Man and Barracuda.
Anne and Nancy would have done a good job on their own with this song but it took I don’t know how many people to pull off this epic performance. Everyone who sang, played an instrument, conducted, arranged this all focused on one thing, the song and paying tribute to Led Zeppelin and it showed.
The band did not know that Jason was going to be there behind the drums that night - they were totally caught off guard. Not only that, but Jason played his dad's kit in that performance. Epic. Best cover of any song I have ever seen.
Three other artist paid their tribute to Led Zeppelin that same night, they were The Foo Fighters, Kid Rock, and Lenny Kravitz. But hands down Heart was the best out of these four artist.
As soon as the choir came in to accompany the vocals they all perked up. I think they really enjoyed the idea of a gospel choir Incorporated in the song. It made it unique yet still a great tribute performance!

Other performances in the Led Zeppelin portion of the show were Foo Fighters performing "Rock and Roll", Kid Rock doing “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” and “Ramble On", and Lennie Kravitz performing “Whole Lotta Love". Buddy Guy was honored earlier in the show and there were some great performances of his music. You might have seen a brief shot of Bonnie Raitt in the audience for this song; she had performed Buddy Guy's “My Time After Awhile” earlier.
Now you've got to do the GOAT rock song by the GOAT rock band. It is the live version of "Kashmir" from 2007 Celebration Day concert held at London's O2 Arena. Once again, Jason Bonham plays drums in place of his dad, John. These guys sound better than ever, and this video is among my top 3 favorites. Enjoy!

The tears in Robert Plant's eyes kill me everytime he sure misses his friend John
If you noticed Jason Bonham and the choir are wearing derby hats. That was a tribute to Jason's dad, John Bonham. John wore those hats all the time..
Playing his dad's drum set too

Very calming in the beginning. What an amazing song. Best cover ever.
LZ's music is art that is intended to expand our humanity. Did you see Debbie Allen getting taken to church at the end? Truly touches your soul.
To have Jason playing for his dad John had to be emotional for all hose guys, even though he played with them before.
