As said before : "He sang with a tear in his voice". This was recorded in Vienna same year he sadly passed away. Never, i repeat, never there will be a voice like his. BLESS him!!!
Just wonderful. Jussi Bjorling has been a favorite tenor of mine for many years and this paricular song has also long been a favorite. Thank you so much for uploading this video.
Say what you want about Lucianno, and all the others... Jussi was the best.... a natural, phrasing, tone, timbre, clarity, succinct, and velvety.... he gives me chills in Boheme with de Los Angeles (beecham recording)
jussi Bjorling was also a world class tenor,a great middle, and his hight notes ringing with, beauty,I have been lucky to have been allowed to listen to great opera singers,i am very sorry I never met sr.Pavarotti,in person. But I did meet sr.Domingo, also a great tenor, meeting these great singers brought joy.may God bless them all.
Forever grateful, I discovered...Jussi Bjorling, here. Familiar with several other's. After hearing his exquisite voice...it just doesn't get any better! I fell in love, with it. Recently bought a set of his, cd's. Absolutley beautiful! 🍃🌹🍃💗🍃🌹🍃
Or create one! - of never ending streams of tears! I cannot take it - it is so unbelievably beautiful! By far one of my favorite recordings of this song EVER!!!!!!!!
Whitout doubt, Jussi Bjorling was the best tenor ever . Unfortunatelly died fairly young . There are many excellent tenors but until now nobody surpassed Jussi .
Hello - No not from Strauss' DIE FLEDERMAUS. Look at top of page, (click "About" for the info). It's from "THE LAND OF SMILES" ( DAS LAND DES LACHEINS) -- an operetta by Lehar. It's written in German, but Bjorling is singing in his native Swedish. JB always sang beautifully.
@Jaaakob Well, he was months from death (heart failure) when he recorded this. BTW, it is not a live performance, despite the applause. His song is part of a "gala" inserted into a studio recording of Die Fledermaus. You are not the first person I've heard comment on the diminished quality of his singing here, but personally, I can't hear it. He sounds much like he always did. Wunderlich's performance is better for me, but he was younger and healthier when he recorded it.
This is not a live recording . It is one of many studio recordings of famous artists (Tebaldi sings Vilja anf there are plenty of others) during the party scene from the Richmond/London recording of Fledermaus. The announcer is Regina Resnik I believe. The song is from "Land of Smiles".
I don't know the year of this performance but it sounds like late 50s. Jussi is certainly the one and only but the voice is dark and somewhat labored from years of alcoholism and all that went with it. Still though, it's Bjorling as only Bjorling was.
This was from an operetta or light opera as opposed to heavy or dramatic opera although operettas were still dramatic but perhaps "light" drama. Can't remember what this is from. Which operetta? Dei Rosen Cavalier" : "The Chocolate Soldier" or "The Merry Widow"? and who wrote them?
There is only one other performance of this song which can match (even surpass?) Bjoerling's. It is sung by Frtiz Wunderlich, whose rendition also is available on UA-cam, and who also died way too young. . Both are gloriousl
@PANZERCAMPINO Darwin was right, but you're right about music. Sad, isn't it? What has become of us? We seem to have lost our way, in many things. Bill in Canada
Not one of his strongest recordings, so to speak... he sounds rather raspy, but perhaps there's a charm to that aswell. It's a bit surprising though, as Björling practically never sounds labored...
Jussi Bjorlings voice will never stop toutch people!
As said before : "He sang with a tear in his voice". This was recorded in Vienna same year he sadly passed away. Never, i repeat, never there will be a voice like his. BLESS him!!!
Since 1929 this magnificent tenor has recorded 100's of songs, his voice lives on through the studios.
The best tenor, in my book. Absolutely beautiful!
I completely agree, Jussi has the most beautiful voice ever heard, and has a superlative technique :)
This aria is exquisitely beautiful. I don't care about bullshit or amusement...beauty is beauty.
That was cool, he sang mostly in Swedish but finished it off in German. Well done, Jussi.
Just wonderful. Jussi Bjorling has been a favorite tenor of mine for many years and this paricular song has also long been a favorite.

very well said, thank you.

Bjorling had this incredible sweetness in his voice even in the boldest dramatic moments. A rare vocal instrument.
yes his voice is the sweetest
the burst of applause is how I feel every time I listen to him. A gift straight from Heaven.
😍😍
Incomparable jussi Bjorling sang the piece as written thank you 🤗

This man’s voice has the power to calm the storm inside of anybody.......🙏🙏🙏🙏
Or create one! - of never ending streams of tears! I cannot take it - it is so unbelievably beautiful! By far one of my favorite recordings of this song EVER!!!!!!!!
When Jussi sang it, he owned it.
oh yes thats so obvious isnt it?
A voice from beyond....
this is the voice
It moves me every time I listen to this. To know that this was his last year. But what a voice, what an expression. For me Always Jussi
his last year? sounding so brilliant.
I agree - especially with your choice of tenors - three of the greatest voices
of the 20th century....Bravo to all 3 & to you !
Whitout doubt, Jussi Bjorling was the best tenor ever . Unfortunatelly died fairly young . There are many excellent tenors but until now nobody surpassed Jussi .
I totaly agree with you!
Beautiful.
The voice of an an angel 💕💕💕
the best tenor of all time
Ja 👍 Björling war Schwede .
some are great and some greater but they are all very nice to listen to i play them all and enjoy their great talents.
interpretazione molto romantica ed espressiva!
One of my favorite tenors singing one of my favorite songs by Franz Lehar.
Just so beautiful....I keep playing it, often. Love Jussi's magnificent voice.🍃🌹🍃
Unglaublich schön! Er hatte einfach was, was alle anderen nicht haben oder haben können! 👌 👍
Will always inspire God Love in every heart.
Without Bjorling and Beatles, I don't see any reason I should come to UA-cam.
Too bad your interests are so narrow. You're missing a lot.
Thank you for sharing this. The best, ever! 🍃🌹🍃
MARAVILLOSO
W O W.....!!!!!👏👏👏👏
❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic.
No doubt for me Bjorling and Lanza the best perfect interpretation on a passionate lyric at all tenor performances.
i beg to differ Lanza cant hold a torch .to Bjorlings pureness to me Lanza was a showman
Maravilhoso! É o melhor tenor que já ouvi!
He is! Listen to the end!
Bjorling.. silence on rêve d'un autre temps.
Ingen har så smuk stemme!
❤

He starts out in Swedish, but switches to the German text.

If there was ever a tenor (and I repeat, if) to rival Bjorling, it was the incredible Fritz Wunderlich, whose version of this is probably the best.
Un senyor tenor.

This sounds good even if the pitch and speed is a half note low.
@Siriusfanatiker It is German from 2:43. Listen.

@302MarkVII In German from 2:43.
This was from an operetta or light opera as opposed to heavy or dramatic opera although operettas were still dramatic but perhaps "light" drama.

its not swedish its german..... but the GOAT

Oh is it from Dei Fleidermaus?
@PANZERCAMPINO Darwin was right, but you're right about music. Sad, isn't it?

Bill in Canada
my opinion he is the best closest would be Pavarotti.
Helt okej!!! 👍👍👍

Jussi is the greatest tenor of all time but Fritz does this better.
Yes he does.
Not one of his strongest recordings, so to speak... he sounds rather raspy, but perhaps there's a charm to that aswell. It's a bit surprising though, as Björling practically never sounds labored...
i just didnt liked the second section and the conduction but his voice is amazing with mezza voce and all the dynamics
Jussi is my favourite tenor but I believe Richard Taubers version has more joie de vivre.
I love Richard Tauber, aber compared to Jussi, he is a lame duck!
