Indeed you are lucky! I often think about which historic performances I would like to time transport for. Tebaldi, Bjoerling, Nillson (!), Callas in the first five years of her career . . . it's a long list.
There are no voices like that today. All we have is NetrebCow screeching like a cat on a fence and tenors who should be singing in saloons instead of in an opera house.
To anyone who claimed that these two could not act, I beg to differ! This clip proves that both of them were more than adequate in their acting skills! Jussi, passionate, charmingly seductive and Oh my word that voice would have sent any woman into a swoon! Renata herself, sweet and elegant with a voice to match! They are both out of this world! What a pity we have noone quite like these two anymore!
Too many people think that acting in opera means "chewing up the scenery." Often, I find that singers who do that are trying to distract from their poor singing, abilities or technique. This is a great example of two fabulous singers expressing the text with stunning voices, expressive musicality and natural acting. When performers sing this exceptionally (it is so rare), I don't need (or want) to see them throwing themselves in paroxysms around the stage. Lol!
Everyone is actually right. Jusi could never act and he is extremely boring to watch despite having the incredible voice. But don’t forget that he is getting compared to his own era of giants like Corelli, Del monoco, Lanza, Callas
Was there ever a more beautiful sound than these two together? ❤❤❤Jussi Bjorling that so many claimed could not act? Here he does an amazing job of proving that he was more than capable of acting the passionate lover Rudolfo to Renata's enchanting Mimi!
В далекие Времена люди собирали "золотые слитки" и любовались их сиянием..!.С течением времени "Золота" становилось всё меньше и меньше и наконец оно вовсе исчезло , оставив лишь неизгладимые следы, подобные солнечному сиянию ! Oh my God!!!! Rodolfo and Mimi, played by Bjorling and Tebaldi, can you ask for more?? Absolutely glorious. It seems to be recorded live. It must be very old. Thank you for sharing one of these jewels so rare, unfortunately, for the opera lovers.
Jan 30, 1956 (producer's showcase) "Festival of Music" with Tebaldi, Bjoerling and other artists, and also Tebaldi and Bjoerling sang their act one Boheme solo arias, before this ending with this act one duet, I was 15 and saw it then, at home on our old B&W TV. Brdcst. from NY. Rockefeller Center.
Beautiful! His Duet from the Pearl Fishers always gives me chills! I was an avid skater and always wanted to see two fine male skaters skate to it! But I do get chills from Jussi I am Swedish, German and Native American! I consider myself perfectly appointed to adore Jussi! I heard Jussi coming out of a VW I called out Jussi Bjürling! And the driver called back “He taught me”!
A colori, finalmente, il primo approccio televisivo di Renata Tebaldi a New York nel 1955, a ruota col leggendario sui debutto al Met, in felice partnership col celebrato Jussie Bioerling. Entrambi gli interpreti appaiono in forma splendida .
Many of the early stereo recordings are wonderful. The engineers didn't fiddle around with the controls. Microphones were placed in the best spots and not too many were used. Some mono recordings still sound good, too.
Old mono recordings was done by tube-microphones and amplifiers. While good for their time they tend to color the recordings and make everything sound warmer than what it is in reality, thats the reason why so many audiophiles today love those old analogue tube sound gear, because of the warm sound of it. Modern recordings of these singers would have showed more genuinely how they really sounded in reality.
Maravilloso, maravilloso registro Tebaldi, voce d'angelo y el gran Jussi, qué más se puede pedir? Una pareja extraordinaria y aquí están maravillosos! Y, en color! Fantástico. Gracias.

@@johnhoie1 and her voice is perceived to be roughly twice as loud at 3:36, rendering his voice nearly inaudible. The science of “loudness” is actually a psychological phenomenon due to how the human brain perceives sound. The human ear perceives high pitches and brighter sounds to be louder when at an equal decibel level. Short statured men like boring typically have lower decibel output than average due to smaller respiratory systems, and added to the fact that his voice was on the darker/mellower side for timbre doesn’t help either. His voice also didn’t have the strength in the upper harmonics of Caruso, despite bjorlings timbre being similar to Caruso. Bjorlings voice was simply not biologically designed to be the loudest, which isn’t a flaw. That said, his voice could have been better produced. There’s almost always a minor strain in his voice and his vibrato is also negatively affected
@@tita4359 Where to begin? Bjorling had a barrel chest, stocky build and thick neck. His breath control was excellent. In those ways, he was very similar to Caruso. But he did have a smaller voice than Caruso. For me, his vocal technique was outstanding. His vibrato was an indication of a lack of tension in the voice, not a lack of control. Admittedly he was only 49 when he died, but even at the very end, the sound was not diminished by use, alcoholism or a bad heart. He may have lost a little volume the last year, but that was after a major heart attack. Bad technique would have produced an ending like di Stefano experienced.
By all means regret that JB and Tebaldi did not record Boheme together (agree it would be a treat). But drop the egregious comment about De Los Angeles.
Everyone's praising Bjorling (and rightly so) but Tebaldi was the greatest of her time. La voce.

To my mind, Bjorling is untouchable: the greatest tenor of them all. Tebaldi's voice was effortlessly beautiful and powerful.

probably the best version of O Soave fanciulla
Jussi Björling - a voice on loan from Heaven.
THE FINEST AND GREATEST TWO EVER IN HISTORY ❤
There truly cant be any better than this!!!!
the italian pronounciation of Mr Bjorling is perfect, and his voice too
I was fortunate to see them both at the Met many times. There are no voices like those anymore.

Great tenor Jűssy Bjoerling. Really beautiful voice
I'm weeping. I saw Tebaldi as Mimi at the old Met -- her first performance after her mother died. And Bjorling was my mother's fave.

Wrong about Bjorling. Powerful. For me, his diction is flawless, no matter the language.
He did have a small voice. In recordings like these he was positioned closer to the recording microphones

Do you hear the transposition down at ‘V’aspettan gli amici’? The syllable ‘-mi-‘ should be a half tone higher. They end on B natural and not C.
Well yes, of course he often did live , especially when in his 40's, as many others sang the aria Che Gelida as high B and the ending as here.
