If it weren't for your heard it on Bandcamp, I wouldn't have found Galen Tipton and discovered one of my favourite albums of last year, then gone on to dive into Deskpop as a label and their awesome sound. Sean Leon - narcissus, the drowning of ego & Lorenzo Asher - Numismatics & Rozz Dyliams - Sapio state & Bones - themanintheradiator as suggestions for lesser known art
Here's a posthumous record idea for big artists out there: Make an album in secret over the course of your life full of lessons you've learned and then upon your death, have your record label release it. That way it's something new for your fans that will satisfy them, and it's a new piece of your art for the world to enjoy.
Album cohesion is honestly one of the things I am most picky about. And not so much the ordering of the songs on the album, but the transitions. I don’t want an abrupt ending followed by a fade in.
Re: podcasts vs music, I feel like the argument isn’t really about the mediums themselves being comparable, but it’s an argument over time spent. Say a podcast listener amasses a playlist of a dozen or so shows that are updated weekly and can usually take up anywhere between 20 minutes to 2 hours to get through. So for every one listener to a specific podcast, that could mean a full 2 hours listening time. Suddenly someone’s work commute becomes less about listening to new albums like they might have once done, but instead spend it catching up on podcasts. And since there can be a feeling of obligation to finish each episode before a new one comes out a week later, there is more of a sense of urgency to listen to that podcast instead of the new Ty Segall album. I feel like there really is a strong argument that can be made that podcasts are creeping into a sacred time when music used to reign. Personally I’ve found myself listening to less music in the past couple of years because of this. And it’s not that I can say I prefer podcasts over music, but getting through those shows that I genuinely enjoy is leaving me with less and less time for anything else.
The Kinks' Everybody's in Showbiz has some fun songs about food that are more explicitly about food than some other songs like Hot Potatoes, Motorway and Maximum Consumption. I love it personally ;)
Everyone knows that the best song about food is Mary-Kate and Ashley's "Gimme Pizza". That song is a classic with insane lyrics such as, "We're gonna make a masterpiece-a pizza".
I would say podcasts are in competition with music. After all, we only have a limited amount of hours in a day, and more time one spent listening to podcast, the less time one would spend listening to music. Even though they are entirely different experiences, they're competing for the same time slots in a listener's daily routine
Lucas Azevedo de Castro Bonfá theres also already plenty of extra art on Spotify inside individual tracks and that is pretty much always a video or short animation
I personally think that cohesion is a very important part of an album, but there are MANY ways an album can be cohesive. I think The Voidz's album Virtue is a good modern example. There's a lot of sounds being experimented with on there, but there are some common elements throughout, from Julian's vocals to the lyrical themes and assortments of digital and psychedelic instrumentation. It seems chaotic and all over the place at first glance, but there are many unifying elements there. Not every song needs to sound the same or even similar for there to be cohesion; some are even like you said, where the lack of cohesion IS the cohesion! Agreed that it can only enhance the album by having it, too!
5:30 whoever wrote that comment has not seen Tool's "10000 Days" CD cover.. and it's 13 years old.. OR MGMT's "Congratulations" scratch and sniff cover.. I'm just saying, there are plenty of bands that do awesome cover art, and there has been plenty of bands doing this for a very long time.
9:38 Woah, that's creepy. When you mentioned how albums released at the beginning of a decade can influence all sorts of records which come later on that same decade, I thought of the exact same example as you. Right after you said that, I thought to myself "Waka Flocka Flame's Flockaveli album would definitely be a type of album which would fit into that category, as it influenced Drill Rap and similar styles of Rap music into later 2010's" and then immediately afterwards, you brought up Flockaveli as an example.
Power Forth Yeah but people have been doing live performances and making tunes in music for a long time. You can’t even compare the two, because podcasts are a completely different process.
@@dcarterm8371 of course you can compare the two because podcasts are literally just a discussion. People have been communicating as far back as music has been around and then some.. and if you want a live performance comparison, think of a play or public speech
Hey Anthony, just to let you know I am one of those viewers who loves your positive reviews, especially less known ones, and tries to listen to all the records you recommend!
There was a moment this year that I just stopped listening to music and was only listening to podcasts, I have no idea why I did that I just wasn’t feeling like music.
Songs about food that are good: -Cheeseburger in Paradise -All of Mmm Food -The Baby Back Ribs jingle -Mi Queso, Do you Want a Taco? by Psychostick -Vicinity of Obscenity by SOAD ...I think that’s it...
As someone who had never heard of Gang Starr before this year (I knew DJ Premiere but had no idea he had a partner), I'm glad that One of the Best Yet was released. That album is one of my favorites from this year and got me into the rest of their discography
Before I got into podcasts, I would download an album and listen to it while commuting. However for the past 2 years, I've barely downloaded any album, greatly limiting my music discovery rate. So yes, music and podcasts are in competition for my time.
"There are no good songs about food" How have you not heard the legend about the Peaches? The ones that come from a can and how they were put there by a man in a factory downtown?
You should ask viewers for their best soundtracks from movies of the decade. I think it would be very interesting to see other peoples views on this topic. My vote is for the Nerve soundtrack, i think the music choice on this movie makes the film feel interesting and unique despite the lack of acting talent. This soundtrack inspired me to listen and learn about artist/bands i've never listened to before such as Borns, Basenji, Grandtheft and Blood Orange which are artist I now love today

I looked up that incel shit you mentioned and my soul is indeed crushed. That just made me depressed as hell and that black pill theory scares me a lot.
The cover of Led Zeppelin III is more than a still cover. It has a rotating wheel that you can “change” the cover with.
And I believe you could paint the jacket of "In Through the Out Door" with water and it would turn to colour.
Same thing with physical graffiti.
About the reviewing you music thing: I love it! I've found so many new artists from those videos and EVEN MORE from the twitter replies that didn't get reviewed. Please do more
virgin joe rogan vs. chad vegan melon
elk
Rogan would wheelhouse kick Melon into next Tuesday
Nut Quaker You don’t simply kick The Melon.
💪 💪 💪 Rogan is a liar and a fool 💪 💪 💪
I prefer the virgin but the chad ain't too bad either
“it is what it is.”

The other way around, the Irishman liked Fantano

Dyldo dyldo i also do my own carpentry
Anthony "I eat elk now" Fantano
Now that’s Meta
I personally love reviewing your music it's fun to hear what you have to say about artists who are trying things on their own or with a small budget and in a way gives me advice for the music I'd like to make or produce and I hope the series sticks around
Hot take: There should be more songs about food
Let’s Agree : Hot Dinner by Cal is an amazing song about food.
Anthony's just upset no one listened to his podcast after he sold it to EA Sports: Its In The Game
"Happy Together" by the Turtles is the original and best Incel song of all time. Change my mind.
My girlfriend listens to podcasts while she snowboards, it’s just wrong.

Here's a posthumous record idea for big artists out there:
Make an album in secret over the course of your life full of lessons you've learned and then upon your death, have your record label release it.
Why go to college, when I can watch/listen to The Joe Rogan Podcast
I frequently choose to listen to a podcast over music. I can actually see podcasts taking over the Audio category in the future.
Re: podcasts vs music,
I feel like the argument isn’t really about the mediums themselves being comparable, but it’s an argument over time spent.
UA-cam is my podcasts. When I wanna hear noise but don’t feel like listening to music, I watch UA-cam. Music is still millions of times better.
Everyone knows that the best song about food is Mary-Kate and Ashley's "Gimme Pizza". That song is a classic with insane lyrics such as, "We're gonna make a masterpiece-a pizza".
For a split second I thought Anthony was on an episode of JRE
I believe Savoy Truffle by the Beatles is truly about food, without any hidden meaning. And it's great
Joe Rogan on any topic:"Woah...IDK man that is pretty crazy"

I would say podcasts are in competition with music. After all, we only have a limited amount of hours in a day, and more time one spent listening to podcast, the less time one would spend listening to music. Even though they are entirely different experiences, they're competing for the same time slots in a listener's daily routine
'One pound fish' Is a masterpiece about food, probably exceeding MF Doom's whole career in terms of influence.
1:57 "There are no good songs about food"
*_stares at half of Weird Al Yankovic's discography_*
Beck did the customizable album art with his 2006's record "The Information".
Saying "Podcasts are Overtaking Music" is akin to saying "Food is Overtaking Water"
Let's agree: Anthony has been making mini music review podcasts for the last 10 years.
"humans have been making music for thousands and thousands of years now"
and humans just started talking to each other... because of podcasts?
no but recording themselves talking to each other and selling it?
@@Munimun no but recording music, mixing it, and selling it? Dumb point.
Power Forth Yeah but people have been doing live performances and making tunes in music for a long time. You can’t even compare the two, because podcasts are a completely different process.
People making podcasts is a recent development. People making music is not. I believe that is the point melon is making.
"I'm pretty conservative"- Anthony Fantano, 2019
I like that Natural finish, and maple bourd on that bass. Classy. 👍
"Vegetables" by The Beach Boys is pretty tasty
omfg the bitrate drop from 5:25 to 5:26 is so great
Fantano talking hella slick considering he has a podcast
There was a moment this year that I just stopped listening to music and was only listening to podcasts, I have no idea why I did that I just wasn’t feeling like music.
The cover of Childish Gambino’s album “Because the Internet” was a GIF.
He’s gonna have to bring that 5 to a 10 now 😳
Good points near the end of this video
Wish artists had a will set for their unreleased or incompleted tracks
Can we just appreciate how melon never clickbaits and the first topic he does is always the one in the title? Ok
Songs about food that are good: -Cheeseburger in Paradise
-All of Mmm Food
-The Baby Back Ribs jingle
-Mi Queso, Do you Want a Taco? by Psychostick
-Vicinity of Obscenity by SOAD
...I think that’s it...
*Anthony:* _gives MBDTF a 6/10_
*Joe: Yeah, okay, but have you tried DMT?*

As someone who had never heard of Gang Starr before this year (I knew DJ Premiere but had no idea he had a partner), I'm glad that One of the Best Yet was released. That album is one of my favorites from this year and got me into the rest of their discography
6:25 If anyone is wondering, the sheet music in the background is the theme to Game of Thrones
Before I got into podcasts, I would download an album and listen to it while commuting. However for the past 2 years, I've barely downloaded any album, greatly limiting my music discovery rate. So yes, music and podcasts are in competition for my time.
"There are no good songs about food"
How have you not heard the legend about the Peaches? The ones that come from a can and how they were put there by a man in a factory downtown?
Fuck yeah, that song is great
You should ask viewers for their best soundtracks from movies of the decade.
