I agree on the Wolfmother stance. I was reeeallly into Led Zeppelin in my teenage years and also enjoyed Wolfmother, although not to the same degree as Zep. I played plenty of Zeppelin covers when I was in a band in high school. I've only listened to Wolfmother's eponymous first album but I never thought to myself, "This sounds like some damn Zeppelin". Wolfmother built upon their inspirations while retaining originality. On the other hand, GVF reminds me of a damn good Zeppelin tribute band. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I was really hoping (for their sake) that they would explore some new sonic territory on their latest album. After the reviews on their last album and their latest SNL performance, I kinda feel bad for the guys.

I'm old enough to remember mixtape trading, rappers selling their music out of their car or on the streets...obviously this degree of "hustle" isn't needed with social media etc but the side effect of that is a lack of necessity. I honestly don't really consider newer trappy glossy stuff as hip hop as much as I see it as just a side show of the Pop market.

I agree on the Wolfmother stance. I was reeeallly into Led Zeppelin in my teenage years and also enjoyed Wolfmother, although not to the same degree as Zep. I played plenty of Zeppelin covers when I was in a band in high school. I've only listened to Wolfmother's eponymous first album but I never thought to myself, "This sounds like some damn Zeppelin". Wolfmother built upon their inspirations while retaining originality.
On the other hand, GVF reminds me of a damn good Zeppelin tribute band. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I was really hoping (for their sake) that they would explore some new sonic territory on their latest album. After the reviews on their last album and their latest SNL performance, I kinda feel bad for the guys.

Canadian here... Souljaboy was only popular in America... he was known in other countries, but I can guarantee he wasn't hoggin any airwaves...
