I knew an employee at genius, they don’t want any outside suggestions or help with what they are doing. They think that what they’re doing is cutting edge and what the people want but more than half of them don’t know music...at all...straight up. The verified series is for views and it’s always been this way. When rap genius started, it was way more accessible and easy to understand what the point of genius is and now we’re guessing what it is. They need better management and better people who actually care more about music than internet clout.
And he didn't explain anything. And that clown actually started rapping the lyrics as he went on when they only reason why the people wanted to see that is so we could understand what he was saying
Reggae: Drums Vocals Stringed instruments Recorded and put on a record Metal: Drums Vocals Stringed Instruments Recorded and put on a record *Coincidence? I think not!*
I feel where they're coming from. Metal and reggae are among the more "fuck Western domination. The ancient and everlasting corruption and greed by those in power is a major if not defining characteristics of seemingly polar musical palettes.
They actually got Nas a while back (IIRC their first verified artist), but they totally should again. Personally, the highlight of that sit down was this annotation right here: genius.com/3074336, because, one, I finally knew what the hell he was saying, and two, it was a really interesting piece of vernacular IMO.
Can we talk about how Anthony unironically said "As a six-footer myself, I try to avoid making friends with shorter people, but it happens, it's out of my control"
Yep, that was easily one of the best takes I've ever seen him do. I've always been a fan of 80s hip-hop just because I'm older and I didn't necessarily grow up with it but I'm closer to it than a lot of people are. Anyway, I always chalked up me still being a fan of it to nostalgia but Anthony made some really amazing points on it and I'm about to dust off some Public Enemy, Eric B and Rakim, LL Cool J, all that dopeshit
when you self title a debut album, it's hard to say "this is me" because most debut albums are bands/artists trying to figure out their sound, unless you're weezer or sum shit
100% agree with the "deluxe album" guy. Make the extra stuff an entirely different thing, so that on streaming services I don't listen to a sick album and then have the stupid fucking shitty bonus tracks come on and ruin the perfect ending
The genius interview with ski mask for faucet failure is a perfect example. "She wanna see my purple pickle up in the wind".... I wonder what this complex lyric means
The fact you reviewed Idle Labour by Craft Spells is a testament of how your reviews are varied when it comes to artist and album popularity, the fact it got an 8 is proof as well.
Its so satisfying seeing "no views" on your screen lol the genius verified series is cool though, expecially when the artist has a great personality or lyrics. Although other times, it is a bit awkward but then I just can figure what artists to avoid after 1 or 2 interviews.
As a person who is 6'6" with shoes on, being in the very back of the audience would suck because most of my friends are round the 5'8" to 6'0" range. so splitting concerts due to height would be cringe.
9:55 "Metal (especially core genres) and reggae have more similarities than differences." Dubstep. He meant to say metal and dubstep. Idk how he got reggae in the picture.
Even that would be wrong because dubstep is a heavily varied style with lots of cerebral and playful subgenres. If we're talking brostep, there's a lot of surface-level commonalities, but so do a lot of other subgenres (which I think this person may erroneously think are dubstep) like moombahcore and complextro.

"go full Joe Rohan" sent me into a 15-minute laughing fit
I know this is dumb, but I have been having a rough couple of weeks and hearing him say "I hope everyone is doing well" helped me
If I was a musical artist who was about to retire, I would wait till my last album for the self titled. That would be really cool.
KEEP IN MIND the first popular genius video was explaining DESiiGNERS PANDA
And he didn't explain anything. And that clown actually started rapping the lyrics as he went on when they only reason why the people wanted to see that is so we could understand what he was saying
No way lol they used to only do deep songs
Last guy was just super butthurt about not being Vampire Weekend
If only Aesop Rock did Genius Verified, that I would watch it.
fred roberts is that the aussie guy because he’s annoying
only cause i played forza 3 and his song played 24/7
It would be like three years long
I actually still listen to some 80s hip hop today. I ain’t no joke is one of my favourites and an all-time classic imo

it's almost all trash. aged awfully
abergs1125 I would call it trash, but it has not aged well
abergs1125 you do realize you’re the type of person I’m making fun of right ?
abergs1125 Slick Rick and NWA are timeless

*Coincidence? I think not!*
I feel where they're coming from. Metal and reggae are among the more "fuck Western domination. The ancient and everlasting corruption and greed by those in power is a major if not defining characteristics of seemingly polar musical palettes.
Kamron Isaiah Johnson haha smart take:)
Genius should get guests like the Wu, Doom, Nas or Lupe because Im still trying to figure out some of the things they say
but that won't get as many clicks as whoever the rapper of the week is
Sad but true
They actually got Nas a while back (IIRC their first verified artist), but they totally should again. Personally, the highlight of that sit down was this annotation right here: genius.com/3074336, because, one, I finally knew what the hell he was saying, and two, it was a really interesting piece of vernacular IMO.
Can we talk about how Anthony unironically said "As a six-footer myself, I try to avoid making friends with shorter people, but it happens, it's out of my control"
yeah that was pretty shitty of him to say
Lol it was clearly a joke.
August Turner ...bro
bigboilover69 Bro...
that was not "unironically"
Anthony, I always appreciate your tasty bass line intros in every “LETS ARGUE” video.
"PEOPLE WHO ARE TALL SOMETIMES HAVE SHORT FRIENDS"
MELON 2020 MAKE IT HAPPEN
That 80s Hip-Hop take is brainlet-tier. I totally agree with Anthony.
Eh, I respect the craft but I think 80s hiphop sounds like booty.
80’s hip hop is terrible
Oliver Johnson better than modern mainstream hip hop though
Clout Lord What about the NWA?
"I be flossing"
"I be flossing"
"I be flossing"
"I be flossin-ie-ing"
acdc: *releases the same album 17 times*
gucci mane: hold my lean cup
Lets Argue: I feel like professional Elvis impersonators have more cultural significance than Elvis himself at this point
Except they wouldn't exist without OG Elvis
Just something to think about
Melon is a lowkey savage to some of these people
genius started out p cool but then the meme was born and then the meme got stale like old pringles
fuck man that's perfect i hate old pringles
im so glad ive never tried old pringles
I always imagined the melon to be 5'7 or shorter
Guys he’s 300% 2’10 anyone who says otherwhys is getting fisted by melon
Super agree on the self titled thing being a missed opportunity. I'm never doing one. I love coming up with cool album titles.
when you self title a debut album, it's hard to say "this is me" because most debut albums are bands/artists trying to figure out their sound, unless you're weezer or sum shit
100% agree with the "deluxe album" guy. Make the extra stuff an entirely different thing, so that on streaming services I don't listen to a sick album and then have the stupid fucking shitty bonus tracks come on and ruin the perfect ending
It's annoying when the deluxe version is the only version out and I have to wikipedia the original tracklist so I know when to stop
6:01 Everything he says here is what I've been saying my whole life and his disgust is giving me life
The backup melons ruined the bass intro
The genius interview with ski mask for faucet failure is a perfect example. "She wanna see my purple pickle up in the wind".... I wonder what this complex lyric means
The fact you reviewed Idle Labour by Craft Spells is a testament of how your reviews are varied when it comes to artist and album popularity, the fact it got an 8 is proof as well.
50s rock n roll fye same with 80s hip hop fine wine son
8:22 "if thats a thing, I now feel dumber for knowing it" 😂😂
Its so satisfying seeing "no views" on your screen lol the genius verified series is cool though, expecially when the artist has a great personality or lyrics. Although other times, it is a bit awkward but then I just can figure what artists to avoid after 1 or 2 interviews.
As a person who is 6'6" with shoes on, being in the very back of the audience would suck because most of my friends are round the 5'8" to 6'0" range. so splitting concerts due to height would be cringe.
saw the Mark Hollis record fly by when you were talking about self titled albums. R.I.P.
Antonio likes ACDC? Melon confirmed Boomer?
But he doesn’t like Van Halen, hmmmmm

Gen Z is all about aesthetic, they dont need to understand it they just wana look cool, aka "being fake"
Powerage is the best AC/DC album.
They were my favorite band from ages 12-14 🙈
12:00 Anthony laying the tall privilege down pretty thick hahahahaha
9:55 "Metal (especially core genres) and reggae have more similarities than differences."
Dubstep.
I liked Doja Cat's "Moo" verified. Sue me.
Opu Ofbengal Doja cat is also good to look at

The album art in the background is Led Zeppelin's untitled album. It isn't self-titled.
