    FYI fighter pilots don't want bright colors in front of the cockpit, because sun light gets reflected into their eyes. Great looking ship!! Nice Work!!

    Sweet I just got this model and was wondering the best was too achieve that battle worn look. Thanks for the great video.

    Great vid! Building this one after a 20+ year break from modeling. Hands aren't as nimble as they used to be, so I'll be using the decals, vs. hand painting the colored panels.

      Awesome! It's fun to paint. I think the waterslide decals are a little thick, so make sure to use some decal softener. Happy painting 😁

      Yeah, I've got some Micro Sol & Micro Set on the way to help with that. The hobby's really come a long way since the last time I built anything. Back then, we were using Testors Decal Set (vinegar water)... LOL!!

    Eu nunca vi na história de aeronaves de guerra uma nave tão linda quanto à x-wing, não tem f16 ou f15 ou qualquer nave tão linda quanto esta! E pena ela não existir na vida real como caças de guerra mas tudo bem essa aeronave sempre vai ser dos meus sonhos.

      I agree! It would be interesting to see an X-wing flying in real life.

    Hi, awesome video, dumb question, after using the wash, you wiped off excess with thinners I think with a small brush, won’t that effect/smear the paint on the body of the plane where your going over with the thinners?

    • @echelonhobbiescanada
      @echelonhobbiescanada  10 місяців тому

      No for two reasons. First, enamel thinners don't affect acrylic paints, and I also applied an acrylic varnish before the wash to make sure the basecoat is protected. The only other risk is scrubbing too hard to try and remove the wash, which could scratch off the paint still. It's also important to let your basecoats and varnish completely dry before the wash stage. Hope that helps!

    Gorgeous mate, one of the best so far I found in UA-cam. the hand painted is spot on, anyway what paint do you use?

      @@pasqualemazzei6754 Hey, sorry for the delay. I must have missed this. No I don't have a list for a B-wing just yet. But if I paint one, I'll be sure to include it. However, the same Vallejo white grey seems to be the correct "white" for the rebels.

    Hi Paint Quest. I'm getting back into modeling after a 30 year break(college, career, wife and kids). I'm attempting to catch up with modern techniques. I'm learning airbrushing, lighting/lightblocking, putty/sanding, and newer paint effects. I've noticed a lot of UA-cam modelers do pre-shading before the main color of hulls....but, somehow, it looks like that effect gets lost through the layering of color that goes on over it. Is it really necessary to do the shading coat first?

    • @echelonhobbiescanada
      @echelonhobbiescanada  4 роки тому

      No, not at all. The effect is very subtle and if you pre-shade, you have to make sure to keep your paints thin enough to see the shading. Check out my SU-33 video to see a post-shading technique (35:10), which is a lot more effective for panel lines, but needs a steady hand. The only reason I did a pre-shade for the X-wing was to make it look extra weathered. However, I probably could have thinned my paint more.

    I'm soon gonna paint this model. But I'm a bit confused. The instructions say I should use gloss versions of white and black. Are the gloss ones really the best? I thought matt would be more suited for this.

    • @echelonhobbiescanada
      @echelonhobbiescanada  4 роки тому +1

      Best to use Matte black in most situations. If you feel it needs to be glossy, you can always add a gloss varnish afterwards.

    • @echelonhobbiescanada
      @echelonhobbiescanada  2 роки тому

      I used to be a commission painter, but the reality of the work is that most people can’t afford to pay for how long it actually takes me to build and paint. Therefore, I ended up working for very little per hour, and it was impossible to make a living from it. A project like this takes me 40+ hours to get to this level.
