Thanks for the excellent video! In the USA this is not required per code & should be!! From what I understand, it's possible to loose up to 50% contact area screwing a terminal screw down on just bare stranded wire. I just had a project where I was replacing the contactor in my outside AC condenser unit, & needed to crimp ferrules on to several 12 gauge stranded wires that were going to screw lug terminals. I found that the easiest way to strip the correct length of wire to fit into the ferrule was to hold the ferrule against the wire & mark where to strip, stripping a bit of extra insulation, leaving a little bit of extra wire coming out of the ends of the ferrule, & then cutting off the extra bare ends. Glad to see that you that you do this also! Thanks again! (I did just see in another video where they said to leave a bit of bare wire coming out of the end...not sure if that is critical or not?) Thanks again! Janine🙂

Thanks for these tips! I recently bought one of the cheap sets online and have been adding ferrules to everything in sight, especially my Defender's solar system.
I hadn't seen the idea of adding heat-shrink before, that solves my urge to code positive wires red, negative black etc. as the colours of the ferrules themselves indicate size not polarity.

I think you mean a compression screw terminal. Generally, the bulk of American homes are built with parts that require a (solid) wire to be wrapped around the screw, which is then tightened. I can't quite see a way to use ferrules in that application.

This video is aimed primarily at UK tiny home builders. Whereby the 230V electrical installation falls under the scope of BS 7671. Regulation 526.9 of BS 7671 recognises the problems associated with the termination of multiwire conductors; and the possibility of ‘conductor spreading’ in screw-type terminals. The standard requires that: "In order to avoid inappropriate separation or spreading of individual wires, suitable terminals
have to be used" (Regulation 526.9.1). This is what we're addressing in this particular video 🙏

good accessory but I wouldn't bother with the heat shrink

... Can you use these on a shower, for combining two earth's (one from mains, other isolator switch)(Possibly the two wire versions) ?.

Do you know the size of a 6mm2 wire once the ferrule has been crimped ? IE: Is it roughly a 3mm x 3mm square cross section ?

Hurrah! Much easier to watch you on UA-cam - don’t like IGTV much. 🙃
