That ratchet on the side by the stainless stell screw is crimp strength adjustment and I recommend playing with it. And you should always the smallest ferrule that the wire could fit. That way you won't get any loose crimps.

I've had mine for some months ago. I have the same brand and ferrule kit. I luv it. Went CRAZY crimping every speaker wire in my house and still have a lot to go. I use it just as well with my car audio system.

There are dual wire ferrules for inserting 2 wires.

£9.98 and it is a wonderful value for such a useful tool .😊BUT use the right one for the wire, tight and fills the ferrule or go down a size.😊

Absolutely, same price as a fish and chip supper. I would definitely stomach a cup of soup meal in exchange for this kit 🤣

Agreed. Some type of termination is needed on the bare strands going into receptacles. Never felt comfortable using multiple wires. The 1st try was a real head scratcher. Wonderful that you REALLY LEANED on the following crimps. A night and day difference.
    👍😎

Having just spent hundreds on an Extron CTU-300 crimp tool to do MHR coaxial BNC and finding that I need another for crimping the audio wires that go into Phoenix screw terminal blocks, I am pleased to find that this tool is so affordable. :) Also noticed a lot of retro-gaming and retro-tech people I know/follow were Patrons even though this is the first I’ve stumbled on this channel. Subscribed! :)

I have a Victron Phoenix 12 volt 1200 watts inverter that takes 4awg fine stranded wire I’m wondering about The possibility of installing ferrules to the wires,,,have you done the same with your Phoenix and if so how did that work out for you???

@@william38022 I just have Chinese clones of some 5-position terminal block connector people like to call “Phoenix connectors.” Extron uses them for balanced audio in their Crosspoint matrix switches. I have to shave one side off each clone to fit side-by-side with another one but my Extron-branded “Phoenix connectors” do not require this. The Extron-branded ones also have a plate with holes to zip tie the wires as a sort of strain relief (10-703-12LF).
Much like when people wrongly call the old 4-pin PC drive power connectors “Molex connectors,” people incorrectly call these “Phoenix connectors.” Still, it was the only name I had to search for to find the clones.
In reality, Phoenix makes these as well as a ton of different connectors and no single kind is called “Phoenix.”
      I hope this is useful.

@@william38022 I have used ferrules into terminal blocks on a 3D printer control board and it worked well. They were very similar to what you might find on an audio amp. I have seen people use them for audio amps.

Good tool. Never tin the wires instead, removes the springiness and with screw terminals you want a bit of spring in the cable to keep the screw from moving.

Always use the smallest size ferrule for the flex.
Ferrules are for stranded cables, not for solid core cables.
Use a twin ferrule with a pair of flexes - the shoulders are designed to cope with the insulation of both flexes.
Uninsulated ferrules are handy in confined spaces - I use them to terminate flex into 13 amp plugs.
Can't believe you're still using terminal blocks - just go to Wago 221 connectors.

There`s an adjustment wheel on the pliers themselves to tighten/loosen the crimp. ;)

I understand some of those crimping tools have a tension screw on the side

That plastic bit on the end of your shoelace is called an aglet. Many thanks to Phineas & Ferb for popularising this oft forgotten but important part of shoelaces, cords and drawstrings.

I worked professionally and we could only use hot wire strippers to avoid the problem of torn threads..

After stripping wire, fold the complete stripped portion completely back and lay against the plastic insulation, then install the Ferrell terminal .

Curious... what is the reason/benefits of cutting off the pre-tined sections of pre-tined wiring(?)

The ferrules are designed to work with stranded wire and as such will not grip as effectively on something harder

Hexagonal crimpers are better but very expensive.

Hi I was looking to get one of them. When I have to wire up a plug and I twist the wire and put it in the hole but sometimes when you do the screw up the wire will snap. Will this be OK for that kind of job or will I need different kinds of sleave. Please can you help me.

    • @backofficeshow
      @backofficeshow  Рік тому

I think these will be a bit big to fit in the plug. If you can find some without the plastic sleeve it should work. Almost like a little metal aglet

Hi just to let you know your surposed to make the wire long enough to come out the end then you crimp it then trim off the wire .

2:10 The crimper is only heavy once it's taken out of the packaging. 😃
