    I was only looking into making a kayak paddle leash with weed whacker line, then this came up. I do work in industrial equipment (torquing and lifting) and learnt probably everything I didn't know about steel cable swaging. I wish we had videos this informative, direct and simple to watch when I started...

      You are correct! So another question would be, do they make sleeves that would match EHS cable sizes? Testing data for them as compared to guy grips would be very good to have also. 73

    Thank you so much for making this very informative video. I have a vinyl coated stainless steel rope that has diameter of 1/16 bare wire and 3/32 diameter coated. And I bought sleeves for 3/32 diameter. But now, I learned that I should cut the vinyl before putting on the sleeve. Is it okay to still use the 3/32 sleeve since it will anyway flatten upon swaging?

    Who's going to buy a swage plier to clamp one terminal end loop? I'm using two swages and a punch and hammer. for my truck winch wire replacement. works a treat. Drill a hole in the join of two thick peices of steel slightly larger dia than the wire to clamp and hammer the swages.

    • @E-rigging
      @E-rigging  2 місяці тому

      Totally get where you're coming from about the hassle, but safety is super important when you're towing or winching. While a lot of folks like the security and termination efficiency of swaged eye splices for winch wire ropes, if you're just doing a one-time job, using wire rope clips can be a great alternative. They're easy to use and still handle the load safely. See this video for more wire rope clip information: ua-cam.com/video/HKt6kswEAXo/v-deo.html

    🗜🛠 I'm wondering if anyone's found crimping dies with the round bite(s) shown here, for the huge 11 ton hydraulic crimpers?
    I see eRigging has a 5 ton hyd crimper tool stating to use the #10 die, which appears to be a round bite, but I don't need another tool just the dies.
    Everywhere I look I see hexagonal bites for electric lugs. I suppose if there's nothing premade I could try making a few sizes from steel flat bar.

    5:00 According to MS51844 zinc plated copper sleeves should be used on steel cable and tin plated copper or stainless steel sleeves should be used on stainless steel cable (CRES).

    • @E-rigging
      @E-rigging  6 років тому +3

      Yes, @catranger01, MS51844 does call for Tin plated copper sleeves when using stainless steel cable because Tin does have a slightly less corrosive reaction than Zinc when in contact with stainless steel. However, stainless steel cable swaged with zinc plated copper sleeves are time tested in both land-based and marine applications worldwide, and do satisfy loading holding and corrosion resistance standards for many typical applications. Strict adherence to coating types outlined in the government standard MS51844 is critical for regulated applications such as airplane manufacturing and military contracts. These fittings shouldn’t be used for overhead lifting applications. It is always recommended to get a qualified person to design and approve your application before using rigging assemblies. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments, Have a great day!

      Thanks for the added detail on this specific topic. I had the same question but now I'm still wondering if I can use plain copper on stainless wire rope, just because they're easier to find. Any experience with that combination?
      Do aluminum sleeves have any place in this discussion?
      My application is not critical but I tend to try to do things perfect even when it doesn't matter...
      Thank you!
