For me, Christopher Reeve will always be the pioneer of how Superman should be. If he was alive and well today, he'd look awesome in the new suit, and it would have been wonderful if he was starred as Jor El in Man Of Steel. Either way, Christopher and Henry are the best Supermen for their generation and it's such a phenomenon to see how a fictional character inspires so much in reality. Rest in peace, Christopher.

I'm a massive Superman fan to begin with. This documentary is an incredible treatment and evolution of a nearly 90-year old IP.
I love to see the history of the character through generations, how Sup has evolved, the various treatment of the IP, and the tide of fandom.
Superman is a hero for all humankind, the greatest hero we have and ever will have. Superman embodies the greatest qualities that we as a people could ever hope for. He's an inspiration for everyone, he represents goodness and virtue to do the right thing, and those are qualities which humanity needs more than ever throughout our own history.
Yet, Superman is also a mirror for our own lives, being an alien, an immigrant, he always seeks a normalized human life, and through his own personal struggles with humanity and wanting to be human, it makes him sympathetic and relatable to everyone.
This documentary captures and shows all of this. (and much more)

there will NEVER be another great production of Superman or other DC heroes characters...as that depicted in SMALLVILLE. Smallville in my opinion, was a masterpiece. It portrayed a great series of stories of Superman, and his life. But , it ALSO FOR THE first time, in a TV series...has enough time to spend character development, on Lois Lane, on the enemies of Superman [many were introduced...including Silver Banshee ] and OTHER DC heroes were shown. Aquaman, Green Arrow, and Black Canary and even a kid Flash, briefly. And frankly, BEFORE SHE WENT PYSCHO, Allison Mack WAS GREAT on the Smallville show. You can see the series on Hulu.

Superman has always been my favorite super hero!... My first contact with Superman was the movies in which Christopher Reeves played Superman... I was hooked!... Decades later, Superman is still as amazing as ever!... He has integrity, he's honest, loyal, faithful, he has good values and principles, he's a real gentleman, he truly has a good heart, he has a lot of inner strength and, if there's bumps on the road, he picks himself up, dust himself off, and keeps on going...
In other words, he's the absolute perfect man and I'm the first in line to marry him! 👍😆😆😆😂😂😂
I also have to say that I really LOVE Superman's theme song... Kudos to the compositor... and to those who kept that song alive throughout the decades!... It's really beautiful!!! 👍💜💜💜

A SUPER documentary worthy of the first and greatest superhero of them all!
I remember this documentary back when it first came out in 2006. I was enthralled as a youngster to learn about Superman's origins in the real world for the first time through this, and it still gives that same thrill, more that 15 years later.
In retrospect, the only thing about this documentary I would be critical of is how little coverage the Death and Return of Superman story arc and the DCAU are given. It's clear that Bryan Singer (who also made this doc, in addition to Superman Returns), cares more about the live action Superman material, and does not give much thought to the comics or animation (aside from the first appearance and the 40's cartoon). Granted, more in-depth docs about the Death and Return of Superman story arc and the DCAU exist both on this channel and their respective DVDs, but it would have been nice if some more attention were given to those significant milestones in this documentary itself.
Like many of my fellow commenters, I too want to see an update of this documentary to include material like the other 7 seasons of Smallville, Man of Steel/DCEU, New 52, Rebirth, Jon Kent, etc. Plus, how Superman impacted the creation of all the other Superheroes that came after him.

You made something special there. It happened organically, which is important for the best tales. No matter what the story changes to be the ideal that Super Man started can not be stopped. The idea that life is important and even the Joker is important cuz even the Devil might one day have a son that may save the universe.

Kind of cool seeing Gene Simmons acknowledging his comic book fan roots. Makes him more relatable than the image he's projected over the years of the womanizing rockstar that's been with thousands of women.

My favorite and first Super hero🤩 As a kid in Nigeria in the 2000s I grew up watching the Fleischer cartoons of him, then my dad bought the VHS of the Christopher Reeve movies and then I fell in love with the Bruce Timm animated series. I love his heroism, his altruism, his humility, undying resolve to do good and help others and his badass attitude. He is also one of the most popular fictional characters here in Nigeria and Africa.

Christopher Reeve created a great duality with the role. The way Dean Cain made his feelings about Lois Lane believable brought a human quality to the character.
