And YET, not only is his performance the most riveting, he's the only actor in the group who bothered to do his homework and get a Maryland accent down. I met Mickey back in the 80's by accident. walking up Bowery St. at the corner of Canal St. NYC and as he was walking out of a jewelry store in a hurry to jump into a cab that a friend was holding, he bumped into me as he was talking back at the store manager thanking him. Right there he stepped on my foot and looked at me and right away "Oh wow, sorry man, you ok?" I surprised to say the least and just said cool man, love your movies! Leonard “Boogie” Weinglass (born 1941) is a charismatic American businessman who founded Merry-Go-Round, a chain of restaurants named Boogie’s Diner, and whose early life was portrayed by actor Mickey Rourke in the 1982 classic American film Diner.
Diner, Body Heat and Rumble Fish really got me hooked on Mickey for awhile way back such an excellent actor a lot of those that came after him has made a career copying his style
Forget the appearance for a second, which is saying something, since you can't take your eyes off him in this movie. It's the change in his voice that is so striking. He used to have this whisper, particularly in this and Body Heat, that was absolutely unforgettable.
he has that x factor, no matter if his looks and voice have changed. still the best. and btw, people do change as they get older, it would be strange if they didn't, but somehow we expect movie stars stay forever young and never change.

Francesco on 1989 is the best movie he ever made, i don't remember meeting a drama actor other than Andrew Lincoln or al pacino who is as good as him or better. And you know the quality of the actor when you know that he managed to play a saint like San Francisco and then a villain like "Ivan Vanko", in Iron Man 2, the guy is an acting legend if you ask me, he deserved much more recognition of what he already have, Since he can't talk so much about himself I insist on doing so in this comment.
What he had that few do was an ability to convey various deep emotions without speaking dialogue or using very few words. He showed that in spades in Francisco. His characters often went places emotionally that others can't reach, while remaining believable because of the turmoil they go through that causes them to go to extreme emotional depths. This happened in the Wrestler, Francisco, Angel Heart, Johnny Handsome Barfly and Year of the Dragon.

Also, many of them were still newcomers paying their dues and starting out. Kevin Bacon had just left his role as Timothy "TJ" Werner on The Soap Opera Guiding Light where he was The First Teen Alcoholic on a Soap.
A lot of actors soon to be big, when they were still early in their careers....Guttenberg, Daniel Stern, Paul Reiser, Kevin Bacon, Mickey Rourke, whatshisname from "Wings", Ellen Barkin....
He rejected a lot of Pitt movies. Can you imagine him in Fight Club! Good film already but with this ex-boxing Mick? When he downed somebody and put the big Paddy finger- 'First Rule' in that broken voice-Oscar!

Michael Tucker is the only one doing a Baltimore accent. Everyone else sounds either like they're from NY or they're doing some general east coast accent.

No special effects, no super powers just great writing and great acting.
Mickey Rourke is so genuine and brilliant in his performances, he is one of the greatest actors ever, and he leads a wonderful amazing cast here.
It's truly hard to believe that Mickey Rourke today, used to look and sound like this.

Mr Sir lots of plastic surgery done because his face was mangled in boxing
Honestly he looked like bruce willis and bradly cooper combined
Too much smoking and plastic surgery.
Rourke was really dashing here. I also love how natural the acting is!
I would have loved to see Mickey Rourke playing a lead role in Martin Scorsese film or Michael Mann film.
