This movie I first saw as a kid maybe 13ish. I'll never forget this movie. It changed my life. Imagine watching this movie but there was a little kid in the background in every scene. That would be me. I watched my alcoholic mom (Faye Dunaway) live her life with so many Henry's coming in and out. My life was a living hell. This movie somehow made sense of what I was going thru. I am an old man now...Mom is dead. I forgave her and all of the Henry's a long time ago. This movie helped me in my process. Thanks for reading. I never expected to even comment on it but today I felt I had to.
This movie makes me sad yet I believe one of the best movies I ever saw. My good friend and roommate Daniel died of alcoholism. The character played by Mickey Rourke was a duplicate of Daniel. Appearance, manorisms, intelligence. I miss my buddy who passed away 2 years ago. 😪 🥃 to my friend.
love the reaction to the two guys at the bar after grandma moses talks about her prowess. the big guy's eyebrow raise as he's leaning over looking at the smaller guy is money.
Old folks in dive bars. A youth of binging and 15 years of hard drinking. 7am sitting alone at the bar with my 2nd bottle of Bud and 2nd shot of Jameson whisky. Out of the blue I told the bartender, "If I keep this up I'm going to be an alcoholic. Give me another round." My idea of a date was a fifth for her and a fifth for me. Been clean 23 years now.
"Nobody in this neighborhood can swallow paste like I can."| I'm sorry, I know it's gross, but that's EXACTLY the reason writers like Bukowski, Waits, Costello, etc. are so brilliant at bringing the realism to us readers.
don't be sorry.. not gross at all! That needs to be celebrated. Swallowing a well earned or deserved load from a man is as close experiencing god that this life offers. right on Marge
fuck I love this movie. first saw it when I was 12. "now look...20 bucks for that kinda head is outrageous!.. - nobody can swallow paste like I can.." classic.
This movie was great because of Mickey. He is the greatest Hollywood actor but doesn't get the recognition because he is not part of the club like, for example, Leonardo is. Brilliantly written and brilliantly acted. So many great lines in this movie all made possible because of Mickey. I saw this movie when it came out and have never forgotten it and will always be one of my favorites.
Another fantastic thing about this movie aside from the stellar acting by virtually all involved? Something about it just triggers that ancient primal craving for booze that stirs deep within my Neolithic/Cro Magnon Irish essence, as such primeval stirrings come surging back with a visceral, powerful & poetic vengeance. Chalk it up to the poignant & potent Barfly effect! It's magically contagious, & sweetly intoxicating! Suck you right into its dreamy & sublime vortex. Next round is on the house baby😜👍
I never even heard of it, I looked up Alice krige and this movie popped up because she has a small role in it. But man these characters are so greasy and they even got that greasy hair which is typical of drinkers
It was a fun drinking movie. So funny. But I didn't have the endurance to be a drunk. Endurance is more important than truth. Mickey is a true artist & blows away any of these half ass actors today.
A man, what is oft referred to as an alpha, can be as gentle, and kind as can be to beta "males", and its a fait accompli, in that they will despise him, ironically, and beautifully socially Darwinian, because, in or by hating a being superior to oneself, you become all theore weaker still. Natures just, in a very raw, whilst still refined way.
very curious, i'm sure this movie is rife with double entendres and innuendos; that being said i wonder why the shout out to the sandwich; is there some real deep meaning behind it or is it just what it is and Buk just loved sandwiches? who knows
The last roar from a once great, still then miles to go talent. What a shame. Bukowski had some problems with this film, but I don't recall what they were.

Have you read Bukowski?
❤️❤️❤️
Big similarity here for me too but promise you my friend you're not an old man yet if you were thirteen and you saw this movie.
There's a certain beauty about it.
Here’s to you Big B and all y’all that relate to this film that way. I don’t, but I love this film. Coulda been me. Just dumb luck!
Dear God, watching this movie will keep you far away from alcohol
Oddly, you would be wrong
Disagree , would drink all through it.
one of the best movies ever
Every scene in this film makes me feel hungover
"You don't just swoop down a man's food like that" LOL
"He's like a goddamn seagull!"
"Keep the change"
"ALL of it?"
"Oohhh"

I know of only one man that made it to the actors guild on his first try. That was mickey. Pacino, Daniro, Brando nope, just Mick

Was he even nominated for this?
@@mr.bloodvessel260 Mickey was nominated for best actor by the Independent Spirit Awards, what ever those are. The oscars totaly blew him off.
"He's as right as any of us..."
God that great hey
bingo
Ya, this film has great dialog and acting.
I'd hate to be you if I were me....
whenever I enter a bar these days I walk in like that.
For all my friends!
I grew up with people like this 🥃🔥🤣
Classic!!! The greatest!!!

‘Ham on Rye’ was the title of one of Bukowski’s novels. Maybe it’s a reference
He's as right as any of us.
The original Uber Eats.
Wet rat in the rain.
wonder if henry ever tried the zima's....
I sit on the porch because I lost my house key. I pick up a book and I read Bukowski.
🤘

what??
If you're going to post Barfly full movie then do it this is 10 minutes just the blink this movie is very hard to find
Um filme de Francis Ford Coppola!
Coppola had a hand in production, but he didn't direct it.
God damn worst acting I've ever seen by every actor in the fucking scene. Even Rourke's acting was bad, yet the movie is intriguing.
This is why I don't like bars.. Too many people saying and doing stupid shit..
You sound lame as shit
Bars don't like you either
Bars are dead now.. who’s laughing now??
@@cvp1969 - Bars are only dead if you live in a communist city. Too bad for you
