Hey nate, great video! I'm still thinking of this for my spi based drones. Would you be able to test range on the literadio with an spi receiver vs your taranis radio? I've heard some people say they get better range with the literadio on whoops and spi vs their main large frsky or multiprotocol radios.
Yeah, Bob Roogi said he was getting significantly more range with the Lite Radio 2 when using an SPI receiver. I have not had time to do a direct comparison with my whoops and radios, but the range shown here is certainly pretty good (for a whoop). I have gone similar distances with my Taranis in the past, so I don't have any evidence to say that the Lite Radio 2 is actually better. For now, I would call it "at least as good".
Yes, the Lite Radio 2 can bind to an XM+ receiver. The radio will need to be in D16 mode. To bind the XM+ you will need to find the bind button the the XM+ and hold that bind button while you plug in the battery. Once you get it bound, go to the Receiver tab in the Betaflight Configurator. You should be able to see the bars move as you move the sticks. Make sure the channel order is set to "AETR1234" for this radio. Good luck.
@@SLACKLINEDUDE yes. you have to plug the battery to the quad while you are pushing the bind button on the xm+. The lite radio is supposed to be in D16 . when you turn it on , only one blue light blink. press the the bind button and its done

Daniel Simental the mobula6 FC often has very poor range but replacing the antennas (both of them) can help. It’s a shame because it is a great FC otherwise. Glad you it’s working for you now.

I've been trying to bind my Lite Radio 2 to an R-XSR radio and I can't seem to be able to bind it. I've tried in D16 FCC and D16 LBT (just in case it's not FCC) but none seem to work. Is there something I'm missing? I'm clicking the bind button on the R-XSR while plugging the battery and I've tried before and after pushing the bind button on the Lite Radio 2 and nothing seems to work... Please help! I just bought the beta65s and I have a betafpv radio transmitter they both have D8 and I just can't seem to bind them together can you help me with this?
If you are sure that the drone and radio both support FrSky D8, then it should work. In the Betaflight Configurator, make sure your receiver protocol is set to "FRSKY_D" (not "FRSKY_X", which is for D16). On the receiver tab, make sure your channel mapping is set to "AETR" for this radio. Then make sure your radio is in D8 mode before binding. I explained how to switch & bind the radio in this video: ua-cam.com/video/WQOGe1bXeao/v-deo.html. Good luck!
Very interesting results! Thanks for the thorough testing. I picked up one of these as a back up and sim flying radio. I've been pretty impressed with the feel for the price range it's in.
I’ve gone a good 3500 feet on D16 Sbus. Optimal conditions I’d say, good line of sight. Limited RF interference. Barely a cloud in the sky. Stock antennas. X4R (Rx) and Taranis X9D (Tx). Video of said flight - ua-cam.com/video/vkkuKMKEZ5k/v-deo.html

Then you have to bind the radio. Instructions for changing modes and binding can be found in this video: ua-cam.com/video/WQOGe1bXeao/v-deo.html. Good luck!

I want to get the 2019 Diatone r349, but its PNP and comes with that same receiver you had issues with. Could you please test it by turning telemetry off soon so I know if I should buy or not? Thanks! Subbed!
I did not update the firmware on the radio nor on the receivers. The XM+ uses the FrSky D16 protocol. There are two versions (FCC and LBT) so you need to know which one to use, and you need to make sure the radio is set to use the correct version. I showed how to change modes in my review of the Lite Radio 2. If you do that, then it should work as long as the XM+ uses ACCST D16 not the newer ACCESS protocol (which is exclusive to FrSky brand products). I hope that helps. Good luck.
@@johnb2755 Thank you john for responding. I am going to upgrade the firmware, or at least I am going to try lmao. A support Agent from FR-sky sent me some firmware to try out, furthermore someone told me of a way to update the firmware through a flight controller.

The Lite Radio 2 supports D16 but you need to switch the radio to the correct mode (there are 2 flavors of D16 depending on where you live). Then it should work as long as your RXSR is also D16 (sometimes called ACCST D16) and not the ACCESS protocol.
@@MrShutterBug Hi, I’m having the same problem, when trying to bind to FrSky R-XSR receiver (ACCST), it doesn’t work, the green and red leds stayed solid, I have tried in both protocols D16 FCC and D16 LBT, any other suggestions?
RSSI can be enabled on the OSD tab in the Betaflight configurator. If it always says 0% then it is not getting the information it needs. Getting that information depends on the receiver you are using. Some receivers don't support RSSI. The whoops with built-in SPI receivers usually do support RSSI. And some receivers like the XM+ send RSSI to the flight controller using one of the AUX channels. In the case of the XM+, I think it is AUX12. In that case, you have to select the right channel for RSSI input on the receiver tab. If you go to that tab, and you have a receiver like the XM+, then it should be easy to see which channel number is used for RSSI because it will be the one bar that moves on its own without touching the transmitter. I hope that helps. Good luck!
Appreciate your video! Have you figured out why the RSXR receiver is exhibiting that behaviour with the literadio 2? I have the exact same set up, and it pretty much ended up like yours, falling out of the sky.
@@lowspirit667 In the end I went on to switch out the receiver, to the frsky XM+. Now it is flying without a hitch. I think the literadio is incompatible with the R-xsr.
Is it possible you were bound to the European d16 ( which there are two on the remote. D16fcc merican version and the other d16 which is euro.) Just one d8 mode tho.
Love your channel bro!!! But have you tried to push more power through the transmitter?? Ive learned that i get better reception with a 2s pack in my qx7 than the stock aa batt setup. I did pick up the voltage checker with the buzzer and that worked well although not very well attached and that will be good for close up so I don't loose it.
The XM+ requires D16 mode. There are two flavors of D16, one for the US (FCC) version and one for other places (the LBT version). It should work as long as your Lite Radio 2 is the FrSky version of the radio and set to the correct mode. I made a review of the Lite Radio 2 in which I showed how to switch modes. It will not support the FrSky's ACCESS protocol because that one is only used by proprietary FrSky devices. I hope that helps. Good luck.
@@SLACKLINEDUDE no mine for some reason can't but i have the version from betafpv advanced stater watch said d8/d16 but I don't know. I got it in the kit in August. Ether i am doing it wrong or it just won't bind im still wondering on why though.
Mine worked for one flight then RF died completely. No red flash on power up, no binding, nothing. Works fine in sim. Btw did you use v2.1 or v2.2 FrSky board in your babytooth? I got a couple of v2.2 boards, one in a whoop and one in a babytooth-like quad, both of which both failsafe ~5-10 meters away from me on average. Calibrated frequency on my 4in1 but they’re just awful 😢
They used to include this controller with the "Advanced Kit 2". Now they include the "Light Radio 2 SE" with that kit. I have not tried the "SE" version. It is similar except it has a built-in battery with more capacity.
Really, it's not all that surprising betafpv is a whoop centric company. I could easily see them paying more attention to that kind of connection in a 5in. Not saying that that's bad but, some conditions that are more favorable for a d8 connection are not necessarily as favorable for a d16.
Could you do a similar test with the betafpv goggles? I ended up grabbing this radio after seeing this. I have their box goggle as well, I really don't want to spend 2-300$ on goggles and I've been considering the ev800d since there are so many videos of people doing long range stuff with them but almost no reviews or comparisons on the set I have.
how do you actually change the protocol? i understand you hold the bind button down and hold toe power button down and you are supposed to see some flashing lights to tell you what mode it is in, but how do you then change the mode?
I just got one.. center off.. and realize his i roill left it centers back at 1490. if i roll right it centers back at 1506.. tried to trim center anyway and it bricked anyway you can send me your firmware from folder on radio
I suggest using D8 mode. See my review video for an explanation of switching modes. D8 is the 3rd mode on the radio. Then, in betaflight’s configuration page, make sure the receiver type is set to FRSKY_D (FRSKY_X is for D16 mode). Does that work for you?
No D16 will not give you longer range. It just gives you more channels, but this radio doesn't have enough switches to need more channels. I suggest using D8 on any drone that supports it.
The gimbals seem OK but they are not as nice as the HAL effect gimbals I have on my larger radio. I prefer the larger radio because I have large hands and I like to “pinch” the tops of the sticks, not just use my thumbs, so that’s personal preference. The biggest limitation with this radio is the relatively short battery life. If I were to use this radio more often I would probably mod it to use a larger battery.
@@scorpioga3t6 I think it’s pretty good for the low price. There are certainly better radios out there. They just cost more. Pick whatever you think will be best for you. Good luck!
No. I can feel that there are gaps in the control signal even before it failsafes. If you were to push on, it would just get worse. If you disabled the failsafe, you might loose the drone all together.
If your TWIG ET5 has an FrSky XM+ receiver, then yes the FrSky version of the Lite Radio 2 should work with it (there is also a Lite Radio 2 that only supports Bayang protocol. That one would not work with it).
in this video, the transmitter signal at a distance of 400m is higher than yours at the start ? ua-cam.com/video/vngZT4iAUeE/v-deo.html if so, it's pretty weird..
To put the XM+ into binding mode, you have to hold the button on the XM+ while you plug in a battery. You can find instructions for changing modes on the radio and binding the radio at the end of this video: ua-cam.com/video/WQOGe1bXeao/v-deo.html. Good luck.
if you have multiprotocol transmitter I wish to see you make a video walkera sbus rx vs micro crossfire rx range test.. btw the frsky is untrusted rx specially xm+ one
I have Crossfire on some micros that I fly outside at longer range, but I use FrSky on my whoops because I don’t fly them long range. I also have FrSky spi receivers on my ultralight toothpicks because it is lighter than crossfire.
Dmitry Savchuk specifically I think the issue is D16 with telemetry. It is possible to use D16 successfully with this radio as long as you have a no-telemetry receiver like the XM+. On a whoop, D8 is the clear winner though. It has less latency.

I'm looking to see if I can get any low battery feedback on this transmitter, for doing line of site? So I don't kill my batteries.
It might be possible using OpenTX Companion, but I’m not sure. The other option is a beeper or color changing LEDs on the drone.
I did pick up the voltage checker with the buzzer and that worked well although not very well attached and that will be good for close up so I don't loose it.
Question how do i bind the lite radio 2 to an xm+. i put one in a 3 inch build i did and it just doesn't want to bind. any advice?
The XM+ requires D16 mode. There are two flavors of D16, one for the US (FCC) version and one for other places (the LBT version). It should work as long as your Lite Radio 2 is the FrSky version of the radio and set to the correct mode. I made a review of the Lite Radio 2 in which I showed how to switch modes. It will not support the FrSky's ACCESS protocol because that one is only used by proprietary FrSky devices. I hope that helps. Good luck.
hey Zblasex re
were you ever able to succesffully bind to the xm+ on the lite radio 2?
I am also struggling and had little luck. Thanks!
@@SLACKLINEDUDE no mine for some reason can't but i have the version from betafpv advanced stater watch said d8/d16 but I don't know. I got it in the kit in August. Ether i am doing it wrong or it just won't bind im still wondering on why though.
Where can I buy the transmitter besides Betafpv?
I see that GetFPV is getting them in (bit.ly/2X8Ja77). Others will probably follow.
I picked one up from fpvcycle.
(I have one v2.0 board and one v2.1 that both get couple hundred meters range normally.)
Is this the controller that comes with the BetaFpv Advanced kit 2?
They used to include this controller with the "Advanced Kit 2". Now they include the "Light Radio 2 SE" with that kit. I have not tried the "SE" version. It is similar except it has a built-in battery with more capacity.
@@MrShutterBug Thank you!
Nice!
I don’t have the BetaFPV goggles to compare. Sorry.
@@MrShutterBug Ah no worries, thanks for replying!
how do you actually change the protocol? i understand you hold the bind button down and hold toe power button down and you are supposed to see some flashing lights to tell you what mode it is in, but how do you then change the mode?
Watch my review video when it comes out today. I'll show you exactly how to do it. :-)
Can this be configured to fly in mode3? Can I remap the stick?
I just got one.. center off.. and realize his i roill left it centers back at 1490. if i roll right it centers back at 1506.. tried to trim center anyway and it bricked
anyway you can send me your firmware from folder on radio
which frsky mode on the lite radio did you use on xm+ reciever
D16 FCC for my XM+
I’m having trouble binding my meteor75 with this controller. Any tips?
I suggest using D8 mode. See my review video for an explanation of switching modes. D8 is the 3rd mode on the radio. Then, in betaflight’s configuration page, make sure the receiver type is set to FRSKY_D (FRSKY_X is for D16 mode). Does that work for you?
So, could I put my tiny hawk 2 on d16 mode and get a bit more range?
no, the th2 has terrible range on d16 mode.
No D16 will not give you longer range. It just gives you more channels, but this radio doesn't have enough switches to need more channels. I suggest using D8 on any drone that supports it.
Mr ShutterBug thank you sir!
Would you raccomand this radio to use it as a permanent radio? Does it have good gimbals
@@MrShutterBug yeah you can mode it if you want to. How much time does the battery least?
@@scorpioga3t6 it lasts for at most an hour of use before recharging or swapping batteries. That’s not very long.
@@MrShutterBug many users don't raccomanded this radio because often it have quality construction issue
@@scorpioga3t6 I think it’s pretty good for the low price. There are certainly better radios out there. They just cost more. Pick whatever you think will be best for you. Good luck!
If you didn’t have a failsafe could you fly until the rssi was close to 0?
No. I can feel that there are gaps in the control signal even before it failsafes. If you were to push on, it would just get worse. If you disabled the failsafe, you might loose the drone all together.
Will LiteRadio 2 work with TWIG ET5?
If your TWIG ET5 has an FrSky XM+ receiver, then yes the FrSky version of the Lite Radio 2 should work with it (there is also a Lite Radio 2 that only supports Bayang protocol. That one would not work with it).
@@MrShutterBug what about Taranis FrySky Q X7? If yes, do I have to use computer, or just bind like LiteRadio?
Is it possible to mod an external antenna?
Will it have any effect on range?
I have not tried. If I mod this radio, it will be to increase the battery capacity.
You got the wrong firmware on you rx that’s why fail saying so close and rssi is wrong
Obviously the 5inch quad or tx were not properly setup.
You rx is fail saying indeed :p
How to switch to D16?
in this video, the transmitter signal at a distance of 400m is higher than yours at the start ? ua-cam.com/video/vngZT4iAUeE/v-deo.html
if so, it's pretty weird..
May I ask how did you bind it with xm+ plz
To put the XM+ into binding mode, you have to hold the button on the XM+ while you plug in a battery. You can find instructions for changing modes on the radio and binding the radio at the end of this video: ua-cam.com/video/WQOGe1bXeao/v-deo.html. Good luck.
So how far will my eachine tyro 79s go??
Probably like 100-200 or even 300m if lucky
Is betafpv 95x D16 or D8
If you get the FrSky version of the 95X then I believe it will have an XM+ receiver which is D16.
PLEASE READ!!! I WANTED TO KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO POSSIBLY DO A BUILD???? WANT THAT LIGHT 3inch a few videos ago please respond...
C'est un test qui date dex4 ans ,depuis ELRS 2,4 est passé par là et rend obsolète les critiques
if you have multiprotocol transmitter I wish to see you make a video walkera sbus rx vs micro crossfire rx range test.. btw the frsky is untrusted rx specially xm+ one
d8 or d16 better?
Do run crsf on your whoops and micros?
I have Crossfire on some micros that I fly outside at longer range, but I use FrSky on my whoops because I don’t fly them long range. I also have FrSky spi receivers on my ultralight toothpicks because it is lighter than crossfire.
With my Taranis X9D and R-XSR (with clear line of sight), I’ve been able to get out to .4 miles (~650m) before losing signal completely.
Bro its the d16 it doesnt work, i had to change my whoop to d8because of this
Dmitry Savchuk specifically I think the issue is D16 with telemetry. It is possible to use D16 successfully with this radio as long as you have a no-telemetry receiver like the XM+. On a whoop, D8 is the clear winner though. It has less latency.
Mr ShutterBug yea I bought the beta fpv advanced kit 2. First drone experience. VTX fried the second day lol bought a new drone that meteor 75 and it would fall out of the sky 10 feet away from me. Changed to d8 mode on beta flight and worked
is this confirmed that D16 works with telemetry off?
@@joyindeeamornchai754 no because mine had 90 metres of range with an xm+.
Have you tried turning off telemetry? Using r-xsr and f.port myself. In my experience it’s much better than the xm+
no I have not had a chance to retest the R-XSR, but that would be an interesting thing to try.
How do I go about turning off telemetry? Using the same transmitter and receiver combo...
so what's better signal with this controller and R-XSR, D16 with telemetry off or D8?
@@joyindeeamornchai754 I have not had time to test R-XSR with telemetry off, but I have had good success with D8 and with D16 on other receivers like the XM+.
@@MrShutterBug can telemetry be turned off? is it done in betaflight? im new to fpv
✌️
Smart port is an issue
Xm+ in all my quads (20+)
It’s a forty dollar controller what do you expect
🖐️🤠👍💯
Literadio2-3 it's regret don't take it calmly.I bought literadio 3 frsky it doesn't work in d8 it's a complete fiasco
“Sixty acres park” huh? Looks like a 1/2 acre maybe. 🤷♂️🤣
Is this radio compatible with the frsky XM+ receiver?
Yes. You just have to make sure the radio is in D16 mode (FCC or LBT variation, depending on where you live)
