    Back with another hair basics video for those of you who may be new to wearing your natural waves and curls. Those of us with wavy hair and those of us with fine hair are generally concerned about having defined hair without it being completely weighed down. Heavy products can cause waves and curls to become flat and lose their definition. In this video I explain what makes a product heavy and what makes a product lightweight.

    Great video! I've found some silicone products to be the lightest styers I've ever tried. I don't think silicones automatically = weight. Typically people who are worried about their hair weighing down are clarifying regularly, so I say go for the silicones if it gets you the lightweight results you want. I would be more careful if you have low porosity hair because that's when you'll seal and dry out your strands, but my coarser, normal porosity hair would need a lot of silicone to stop it from taking in water. I'm on the hunt for one-and-done products that I don't have to clarify out bc my hair is so dry, but it'll be okay if I don't. For now, I'm making heavier products work for me by just emulsifying small amounts in wet hands, adding water till the mixture feels really liquidy. Hope that helps someone!

    I started using Mielle hair milk and I love how it makes my waves “curlier” I love it! And it doesn’t make my hair look crunchy at all.

    Thanks for the info! Finding the right styler has been a struggle for me because I have thick, coarse hair with a 2B/2C wave. For me I find that layering a light cream under a watery, lightweight gel keeps my frizz controlled but also doesn’t completely stretch my waves.

      jay hulrs I’ve been loving the Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Line. I use the cream as my only styler in the winter and both the gel and the mouse are light enough for me to layer on top of the cream in the summer when I need stronger hold.

    Great video, I'm a guy who's been growing my hair out for over 8 months, right at the beginning i jumped on the cantu band wagon cause i didnt understand hair types and even though I got really thick curly hair i still find those heavier creams and products make my roots flat they also make my hair look greasy, clumpy and sticky, so i stopped using them for at least 4 months and was just using little bit of argan oil after wash day to control some frizz but recently my hair has been like an afro and needed more taming so I baught cheap leave in condtioner and cheap curl mousse from drug store and used them after wash day instead of argan oil and it's a totally different experience from heavy creams my hair felt really light, curls was defined, I did use a hair dryer with diffuser though cause other wise it takes 4 hours to air dry

    I wish I had found your channel before I purchased cantu products for my wavy hair, uhh, well this sucks lol. I have a lot of hair and it is thick and coarse with waves (curls?) at the bottom and straight thinish hair at the top. I can't get the tops of my hair to remain wavy and I doubt the cantu styler will help much. Oh well, better late than never. I need to do more research. Thanks for all the info! You're gorgeous and your hair is how I want mine to be.

    How does the OGX air dry cream compare to the mousse? I have fine, dry permed hair that would benefit from the lightweight products you mentioned. Do I need both types of OGX products, or just one?

    I have been using a devacurl defining hair gel and it makes my hair really greasy after a day or two but it makes my waves wavier. Do I need to move to lighter weight products and will lighter weight products give me less definition?

    I have 2b-3a hair. Do you think I could get away with wearing just a gel as a styling product? I notice not many people do this so I’m just wondering if it would be alright

    • @SuhannaDeSilva
      @SuhannaDeSilva  4 роки тому +3

      Yes you definitely can! Most people when they start styling their curly hair generally only use gel since it’s hydrating and also provides hold
