CR Scan Otter and Raptor - Calibration

  • The new Creality scan software 3.2.14 will prompt a message when the scanner is due to calibration. This the first time I do the calibration. Here's what I found.
    - Calibration requires the scanning of QR code in the back of calibration board. The board might be made specially for each scanner, So, do not lose it.
    - Raptor only calibrate for bule laser module. No calibration for NIR.
    - Otter calibrates both small and large depth camera, so it takes twice the time to do so.
    - It's easy to calibrate. I don't see any issue. Average user like me can do it with no effort.

Hi Payo, I want to thank you for answering a question I made you in another video. I'm still wondering wich scanner is better for me between these two. You allready told me that the raptor is better because I need to scan mechanical parts (turbocharger compressor wheels). But I was wondering if Is good enough to scan people like the otter does (for personal use in this case), and black objets, because I also want to use it to scan backpacks that my wife design and make, and their straps are usually black.

There's some improvement in Raptor's firmware and the scanner software. The white light will now turn on automatically when scanning in NIR mode. I'll do some testing in face mode and compares with the Otter.

@Payo-TensileCreator thank you very much, really. I look forward to that video before making a decision.

If you mean calibration process, they're similar, same amount of effort, Otter takes twice longer time because it will calibrate 2 depth cameras.

If you mainly scan mechanical parts, less than 70cm, I'd suggest Raptor. But if you scan human, car body, car interior and sometime small mechanical part, I'd recommend Otter. I've 3 revopoints scanner, none of them can give the same scanning performance and result as Raptor or Otter.
