The Urban Gorilla - Child falls into gorilla pit at zoo

- Опубліковано 20 бер 2014
- From the award-winning film THE URBAN GORILLA, produced, written and directed by Allison Argo. When a young boy falls into the gorilla pit at a zoo in England, the stage is set for an emotional journey into the lives of gorillas in captivity. From West Africa to the Netherlands to Washington State, where Ivan, a solitary male silverback, lives in a shopping mall, the film weaves a story of hope and respect for these magnificent individuals. (This was Argo's first film.)

All he fucking did was go "uh hey...u cool?" Then when the kid started crying he went "fuck that im going inside..."
ChuWanggAmes haha exactly.
ChuWanggAmes The surprising thing is that this is an adult male. They are known for killing strange infant gorillas. Gorillas aren't particularly violent compared to other apes, but this shows an exception to an exception.
ChuWanggAmes i think he heard the mother crying and understood exactly
ChuWanggAmes you've taken the magic out it haha. but you're quite right
True, I don't understand why everyone panicked
It's really interesting, the Silverback sort of pets him in a comforting, gentle kind of way, protects him from the other curious gorillas, and keeps looking at the enclosure entrance as if waiting for people to show up.
Really demonstrated remarkable intelligence there.
Apes are the closest gene wise to us for a reason they are human too they were just never given the voice we have 😅
Damn hope they did the same with hurambae
I love how the Gorilla stood between the child and the other gorilla who was looking at the little boy. As if to say "hey, step back... I've got this under control here""... Then when he started crying the Gorilla knew he was scaring the little boy and went away so he wouldn't be afraid but still continued to watch him till rescuers got to him. Absolutely beautiful...
That gorilla was amazing! It tried to comfort the child, made sure no one else came near and realized it was scaring the child and retreated
Yessssss
He was so gentle touching him, you can see he is worried about him.
He was curious, but also seemed aware he could get in trouble
He was still watching as they lifted the lad out as well.
So Very Sweet thats forsure Mystic . . Being the Ruler of Your Domain is not all to Do with Power as the Animals often show us time and time Again !! Its also About the Care & Welfare of those You Govern ! Long Live the Mighty Animals !! Beautiful 👊🐵💝🌏

I know right it’s really so kind of it
On a lighter note ((at the risk of getting beaten by negative comments)) a child's cry made a 450 pound gorilla run for its life!!
Because of instinct. With a crying infant, the mother would not be far away and he knows what will happen if he is caught between her and the infant. Its the same with most animals.
I think the gorilla just didn't want to scare the child. He understood that the child had fallen down and was injured.
Fred Kay its true
hydgurl77 Clearly a dead beat dad
He didn't Run. He noticed he was scaring the child and moved away further.
I saw Ivan YEARS ago when he was at the B&I in Tacoma. He had every reason to be cranky and sullen while living in such a small space, but he never was. He was always happy to see the kids at the windows. He would interact with them frequently. I saw this video when this incident first happened, and was struck by how kind the gorilla was, but at the time, I wasn't aware that it was Ivan. Now that I know it was him, I'm not surprised by his reaction at all. Such a noble creature

He checked the kid and then leaved him alone. Fact: The gorilla can kill a man by just one punch. But his heart is better than human's one!
agree. he checked the situation a young wounded human no threat. the wail of pain the boy gave out... the silverback to stand away. He could have thumped that boy and killed him outright.

Why is his heart better then of a human? This comment is so full of hate to the human kind and u lightly say it without even realizing it. If u cant see the good in human then u gona live an sad lonely life.
My heart broke when the boy woke up crying. I’m glad everything turned out ok.
Where's this energy for that 3 year old boy who was afraid of Harambe?
@@kiki1573I’m with you there. Everyone just jumps on any trend they can but if my child or any child really, had fallen into a gorilla enclosure and was being dragged around I’d want it killed too..
What you want is kind of clear and understandable in that situation. The 'you' part is the arguable part. 'you' failed as a parent to let that child fall. After that you want things but you just failed. Because of your stupidity an innocent soul has to die.
Yes, you want the gorilla to die, but on the other hand if the parent is not a selfish fk he or she would want to die if the mistake can be solved that way. Because your mistake cost innocent lives.
I'm sure the parent was ready to jump in but was told not to. That could easily make things worse. Gorillas seems to have a deep compassion for babies and the young. There are videos of organutangs and gorillas smiling and pointing to a mother holding a baby close to the glass. There is some sort of awareness when you are around them that they also are self conscious beings with deep compassion. Very fascinating. Breaks my heart man has hunted them to near extinction.
You couldn't have said it better. I absolutely agree with you.

+Erin 440 BS.
+Erin 440 I've already seen the video. Harambe didn't beat the child into a wall. The boy would be dead if he had. Silverbacks can weigh as much as 600 pounds, that child is roughly 40. All he did was drag him through the water. Afterwards you can even see Harambe trying to hold the child's hand. So sorry but I stand by my BS comment.
Thats the media, because I just read another story and saw a video where he didnt beat the child into the wall at all. www.theladbible.com/articles/gorilla-shot-dead-in-cincinnati-zoo-after-4-year-old-falls-into-enclosure-290516 yet, we'll never know the truth
Is it so hard to believe that these gentle giants have far more intelligence than we realised? That he could see the child was hurt and protected it?
As much as we say 'they don't belong in cages' it is truly the last safe place left for these great creatures. They are driven out of their homes by greedy logging companies, but at least here people can learn about them, see how similar we are to them, understand them, and, as shown here, see firsthand how much like us they really are. It acted as we would when we saw a hurt child. It stood by it until help arrived.
Alpha male silverbacks only attack when they or their family group is in danger. He could sense the child was no threat, hence why the screaming did not make him nervous. They are remarkable creatures the great apes. They show us as much about ourselves as they do them.
Whoami691 just as we animals and even plants have consciousness
Dude we clearly do not have consciousness
Whoami691 I cried reading this
jayden killingexp I wouldn't go that far. They are as smart as a human child, but dolphins seem to undertand us more and improvise.
For example, there is a vod on youtube of a dolphin with a fishing hook stuck in its fin. It saw a diver and knowing that humans have hands, it swam over to the diver so he could remove the hook.
They are also aware of other species being in peril, they have been known to save us from sharks and rescue drowning humans.
I think dolphins are just as smart as us. There body to brain size ratio is about the same as our, the great apes have it slightly smaller, but they seem to lack the little difference that makes the big difference.
If gorillas are just as smart as us, what is holding them back? Dolphins lack opposable thumbs and the ability to create things we take for granted here on land - EG fire. That means they cannot evolve technologically as we have, but they have proven they have the intelligence to think creatively.

Most mammals understand when they are seeing another man mammal child. And they understand that children are not as much of a threat.
I find 0:58 so cute. The way gorilla pets the boy knowing that he's scared but he's kinda telling him "it's alright I will protect you" man. Gotta love gorillas! They aren't mean unless ur mean to them. That's the thing y'all don't get
yep just dont annoy them that makes them aggresive but when you dont do anything to them they are thinking you need help
Anyone else not surprised by the gorilla's reaction?
Same here he knew was young hurt human. Gorilla behaved as i excepted keeoing both infant gorillia and young child safe anx seeing help come lead his troop away. But I don't blame ppl for having sticks it is safety as they where adults and could have by younger gorilla been interrupted as threat by there size.

Not just that, but on a genetic level gorillas and humans are very closely related. In fact, the same can be said for all primates. We all generally have a very similar social structure and are very sensitive and social animals (after all, humans generally have difficulty coping with being completely alone and cut off from contact with other humans for extended periods of time). As long as they don't interpret a human's presence as a *threat* it would be very unlikely that they would intentionally hurt a human, particularly a young human who was injured and unconscious.
+gamester512 Very true. It's unfortunate that so many people have the wrong idea about gorillas.
Omg...it's so amazing he was protecting the little boy from the others
These poor animals shouldn't be put in zoos :(
But then they'd get shot by poachers...
But you'd love to have them out in the wild to be killed by hunters right? I love your thought process... are you part of the Trump family?
+MrWolfSnack Same thing I just said.
They are happy. They have food no predetors and food whenever the want. There habbitat is just like the wild but better. I know what your saying though.
@@MrWolfSnack Are you sick? Where is their natural habitat? Don't you ever act like you know what's better for wild animals. The jungle is their home and not the zoo. So, shut the fuck up from 2016 to 2019
The child'c crying sounded like the cry of a baby animal for his mother, the gorilla sensed no danger from him and was very calm and compassionate towards it, no agression or using him as a play thing.

Giving the child comfort. That is just breathtaking to watch. They too have compassion unlike man who cages these creatures.
I watched this video after learning about the incident that happened at the Cincinnati zoo. I have to say my heart is broken and I've been bawling my eyes out. Wild animals have more compassion than we realize and this video and the incident which occurred recently is proof of that. I am not aware of what happened in this particular video, but what I do know is that what happened at the Cincinnati zoo could have completely been prevented. After reading numerous reports of witnesses, it is evident that the boys mother failed to properly watch her son. Her son had made it clear that he wanted to go to the moat and his mother simply said no and paid no more attention to him. The boy then went through shrubs and climbed a barrier only to fall into the moat. This is clearly a rambunctious child with no discipline. There are many 4 year olds who are disciplined and/or supervised better. Harambe was clearly trying to protect this child and the crowd only made the situation worse.
Why is the video more clear from 1986 than the video from 2 days ago???
dude thats what im saying. that video is old. no one carrys iphones? 😂😂😂

lol.. thats so true
smartphones have crap lenses. This may have been shot on old VHS, but they had the same glass we use today in film.
The gorilla just scratched his ass and is known as a hero? I always scratch my ass and I don't get any recognition. Fuck this I'm moving to Mars.
+Yourvideosaregomi You need to scratch an unconscious little boy/girl's ass. Not your own.
Mars? if you can and then i'll be like "nice try dude".. i know it still a cage. you just trying to move to another cage.. *cheers
hahahahaha
+Yourvideosaregomi lmao xD
+darkfiend76 If you start scratching little boys' asses, you'll quickly end up in places with bars where inmates will gladly scratch yours, I believe.
These animals are so intelligent and peaceful (if you don't threaten them) !
The silverback surely understand it's a wounded kid and he's not a danger for his tribe.
So touching. Totally protecting the boy. Amazing!!!
Strangely Familiar - Yes, and when the boy started crying I think he went far away from the little boy so the boy wouldn’t be scared of him. Amazing, indeed.
he was protecting that child. and he was making sure the child wasn't severely hurt he was checking him...and he knew when he needed to leave.so they could rescue him. that's intelligence
the gorilla looked like a giant paramedic "well i dint know what the hell to do"
When that little precious child wakes up and realizes where he is, well my heart just breaks.
It shows who's really the savage beast . That massive Silverback could have ripped that child to bits , but he guarded him from the others & showed concern for the humans well being . He was gentle & protective , we can't claim that when it comes to how we treat them .
If we only treated them with the same compassion I would have "felt shame" for the 2nd half of this video .
that is not what was happening. the silverback was confused and maybe even scared when the child started wailing.
Let's just saw "I trust a snarling wolf far more than a smiling human , At least with the wolf you honestly know where you stand" .
What happened in the second half if this video that you would of felt shame over?
No shame. Just disgusting
Thank god that guy came in their with a 12-inch wooden rod in case he had to beat the 400 pound gorilla to death.
LOL
HHAHAHAHA omg
Yes it can, you can use it to dice it like an onion.
British policing at its finest!
it's probalby a lightsaber.he must be a jedi.
The Gorilla was very gentle, it was very careful not to step on the child and showed no sign of fearing the child, as it stepped over the child it revealed its stomach which otherwise would be a dangerous thing to do towards an enemy.
props to this Gorilla
My question is how could he fall down there? Where the hell his parents?
I was thinking the same...
They were there I think, just stupid.
+adam walsh quite. And what about other people crowding around. dod they just watch the boy climb up ffs. trouble is you cant physically touch a child now or youll be done for being a nonce!
They couldn't rescue him immediately as they were busy filming the incident ;D
+Russ Walsh sad but possibly true!
the big fella kept the others at a distance. goes to show that even in captivity they dont hate people
That gorilla is comforting and protecting that child!
That was about the most beautiful thing I've seen in a long time.I couldn't help but cry all the way through the video
This is incredibly moving. He was so protective of this child that he'd never even seen before he didn't even want the other gorillas getting close to him.
There's a lot missing from this video. Jambo was the star and he remained calm, (there's actually a statue of him at Jersey zoo), but the missing footage shows the child was badly hurt (bleeding and a broken arm) not only that after Jambo retreated another gorilla which was smaller had to be fled away constantly while firemen lifted the child to safety.
This is proof why we must protect all animals on Earth since they share so much with us.
the gorilla was actually extremely wise, because had he stayed there they would have thouhgt he wanted to like hold him for randsom or something.. after caressing the kid and checking if he was ok he gave the kid his space and almost stood guard before being clearly alerted by the crying child and running off not by fear but almost knowingly that he was calling for help and that his presence would represent a threat and be misunderstood is the word.. simply amazing! i'm proud to be a son of the silver back gorilla land katanga congo DRC!

The staff were great, at great personal risk they enter the enclosure with only sticks, the ambulance men too and all the rest of the people that helped, you are all hero's. gorillas were as good as they could be too. This sort of thing makes me proud to be British
It’s amazing that even an extremely dangerous animal can be so gentle to a child.
Gorillas are not extremely dangerous- man is extremely dangerous.
Favorite part of the video is when he wakes up and everyone is yelling to him to stay still and be quiet haha. Have any of them ever been knocked out before? Not only is it a scared child but when you wake up from being unconscious you are confused as hell.
at 0:45 gorilla walks with his hand so close to child's head but doesn't touch it, so amazing
And saved his life unlike one today :(
The one today behaved incredibly similar. The zoo made the choice to kill him.
+meghananne100 not on the full video
+Dominik Zabicki the gorilla didn't hurt the child. If he wanted to kill the boy he would have done so long before 10 minutes. You don't understand animals at all. Just like the zoo "keepers" who killed him. The crowd yelling scared the gorilla. The parents of that boy should be put in jail and given parenting classes. Also that zoo better seriously rethink its enclosures so this shit never happens again. It's beyond shameful!
+ResinDreams The kid was dragged all over.
Yes the kid was dragged all over if you watch the video from today. I don't believe the gorilla was going to hurt the boy, but it acted much different than this one.
That goes the myth of evolution. There is no way the human race evolved from such compassionate beings. We are far too hostile to be able to have come from something so beautiful
Lol, " tf is this thing " ..
It's a video
U made my day
That's probably true
FreakiMuffin exactly
LOL you guys are funny
he toughtt the kid was one of the cubs of their own, a mother with a baby around her neck came over also, looking worried. We look like them, at least when they're little, so it's highly likely they just thought he was a weird looking gorilla. A cry is a universal call for help and baby gorillas have one not too different from humans. He hurried away as he didn't want to face an enraged gorilla mother that would be coming within an instant.
18aidanme actually animals are very lienient, if they think it might look like thier own they won't attack. Otherwise they risk killing their own. And there are other instances where apes tried to nurse human babies even at other zoo.
VanillaSnake21 Like I said, they're probably familiar with humans, they would probably notice the kid looks extremely similar to one of their own, but they're very intelligent and mainly use their eyes to see, they can easily differentiate a threat to a kid in pain, Gorillas are peaceful and don't try to attack unless provoked.
nah he knew his not a gorilla!! he has been dealing with humans and kids for a long time!! unless his a retarted gorilla!!
animals love humans not all but many just as many humans love animals, for example fools like you think a dog is a mans best friend!! well not true at all, dogs are loyal because u feed and shelter them, many dogs would not attack someone killing their owner, your dog would not do shit!!! but dolphins who barley interact with us we don't feed or shelter them, they risk their lives for humans many times end up dead rescuing humans if a pregnate woman was amongst a group of humans drowning they would rescue her first they can tell shes carrying a baby, dolphins are smarter then dogs nd much closer to us humans, we don't need to feed them and bribe them with treats for them to help us. I just wanna say to all people who say they hate humans and love animals FUCK YOU your a sick retarted human!!! there are over a billion amazing great super human people who love life and other living things, and no HUMANS ARE NOT A DESEASE people like you are
GoodGuyDom11 you can't compare Koko to gorillas living in the zoo. Do you know how many years of daily training it took for her to use sign? Gorillas are not stupid at all, but instict still takes effect. In a study baby chimps took a big furry doll as their mother and climbed on the back for help.
It's evident they're very intelligent because they understood that something was wrong with this creature. I don't think they can readily identify a human especially a small one curled up in a ball. Evolution doesn't let him attack since then he might attack an albino hairless baby gorillas that are sometimes born and in general any gorilla that looks weird. Wiping out his own population. Hence he was careful with him.
VanillaSnake21 Take care, the chimps are really dangerous animals. The baby chimps are funny, but when they become adult they become killers who possess super human physical power.
1:28 Gorilla looking back: *"You good bro?"*
RIP, Harambe
Thats not him
No shit.
Are you vegan? Just curious
I am no expert on wild animals. But I would expect the tension, noise and panic of the bystanders was more likely to hurt than help.
Manny Calavera, And despite all that noise, the gorilla still retained its composure and *individuality*, cannot say the same about most *humans*.
True , but they were coming from a good place . They were trying to advise the boy .
They weren't screaming or making high pitched noises .That tends to bother animals more .
In another enclosure with other Gorillas they boys cries and movements may have cost him his life
0:45 It's so moving how the silverbag protects this poor boy. Mankind should take this as an example of interspecial caretaking.

I remember when this happened everyone one freaking out worried the gorilla was going to hurt that little boy, I knew the instant he walked over and quietly sat down he was NOT going to hurt him that he was just as worried as the boy.
So u r there when this happened
everyone here was so calm and quite. in the other video, the crowd was all screaming and shit, they made the gorilla panic and it started dragging the kid around
Amazing I can only believe that the silver back realised the child was not a threat compassion without words ,,,
animals are so beautiful, inside and out and only reacts naturally. no bad intentions gompared to us humans. im quite often ashamed to be a human actually.

Why didn't the Father jump in to get his kid? I know I would've if it was my kid that fell in. Just goes to show that animals aren't mindless creatures with no sensitivity, they are intelligent creatures deserving of respect and a quality of life.

he was protecting him you are right!
I'm here because of the recent video where they killed the critically endangered silverback because a kid fell in the pit. The gorilla looked like it was calm but I guess you never know.
Same I know it's dangerous for a kid but I think the gorillas are close to humans all the time at the zoo there can be a small chance it could kill it
+Amzingred I fully agree what you just wrote though I am amazed how fucking bad the security for example i thiis video are.. There isnt even fences? Its a low fucking wall who anyone can climb up on and fall into the pit. I dont know if its normal for Americans to be so stupid, cuz here in Sweden and other places ive been to, they atleast have some Iq left to know that you cant just have a small wall. Ty.
i agree on americans just being stupid in general, but this video doesn't show exactly how the exhibit is presented as far as the fence and structure that keeps people at bay,
Aneisha Barrett Human life is more valuable. Even though Gorillas are smart they don't have the same self awareness and consciousness we do.
Humans are actually different from other creatures on Earth is more ways than just our IQ level.
Meaning it's not arrogant to put ourselves above animals or say we are different from them. It's a legitimate fact.
However I will say although I do view humans as higher I still don't approve of animal cruelty because there is no need to just torture animals for no reason.
+Aly R I agree with the fact that zoos shouldn't be a thing, but I think we both know that isn't gonna happen anytime soon.
Ivan said, “I ain't getting killed over you! Bye boy!”
Stunned that the dad didn’t go in after him. Leaves his son lying there. A male zoo attendant and a paramedic jumped into the enclosure from the wall, unaided. If that had been my child, I would’ve been the first one over that wall.
Yea i know
Jumping into the pit would just make the situation worse. They don't see the child as a threat, so they don't attack him. You jumping in there would just make them angry, and probably get you injured, if not killed.
Polla Channel You’re probably right, but it just would’ve been my instinct.
