Imo he’s one of the best for longevity. The dudes 73 years old after all. Like wow. The Scorpions are 50 years old so they’ve done countless tours, concerts and miles - Ultimate Respect for Klaus - Legend.
Klaus might be 70 years old and i still think his longevity is among the best. 2015-2019 his live perfomances are still very good. Love that guy to bits and he+scorpions have given so much to rock genre
I think Klaus held up very good. He started singing in late 60s and never stopped working !!!! He had vocal trauma, came back from it and singing 40 years after that!!! They started tuning down like 10 years ago and thats completely ok. Most important he has the same tone, he doesnt sound like old man. And If anybody wants to hear why Klaus had vocal trauma - listen to their song Virgin killer.
Yes, he has admitted to intentionally practice "screaming" to rough up his voice, thinking it wasn't hard rock enough. Obviously learned his lesson, but it's amazing that he really does still have it! Or I should say, has it again. 🤘
Klaus Meine is my hero! Saw them live and he sang everything perfectly with so much energy. This was over 10 years ago though so things may have changed.
It's not that extreme as it seems with the chosen A/B comparison. Klaus still has power and his golden voice. He lost some higher registers, but that's normal due to constant touring and age. He still holds up well and his voice is in good shape! Saw them 2012 and 2015 live, both great shows! And there are videos from more current shows which prove that. By the way, they will do a Vegas residency in March and will kick off their new world tour there. 😎
I'm 51 now and have listened to the Scorps since I was 12. Even when signing in a lowered key, I love the sound of Klaus' voice. And man, Matthias and Rudolf on guitar??? SO good.
For a band more than half a century old, that's pretty good. Always one of the best voices out there, especially their 70's stuff. New album is killing it!
He’s 73……He was still sounding Tip top in the early 2000s… However, when I saw him in Atlanta around 2010… There was a noticeable difference… But he still sounds better than most singers out there… He’s been singing since the 1960s scorpions first album was 1972 50 years ago. For an elderly man who has screaming his throat out for 50 years, I would say he sounds better than pretty good… He has just aged
For a 73-year-old, Klaus is still doing alright 👏. Yeah, maybe he's lost a little power, but he's still better than most rock singers his age. Obviously Mick Jagger is older and still on the road, but Klaus Meine has to do more difficult material vocally. The Scorpions have worked their asses off. They've really been touring every year for 50 years. They must be in the top 10 bands with the most gigs.
I've alway thought of Klaus Meine as a German version of Dio, with a dash of Stephen Wright. He had an instantly recognisable voice back in the day for sure. The Scorpions have secured their place in the history of hard rock, and sold millions. I don't know why they are still doing this.
None of the before takes here are live. That's live footage with the studio record versions dubbed in. He sounds great, and in the new album he sounds just as good as before.
I like that " I wouldn't be super wow'd by it" lol. Very little impresses me now, I know too much ha ha. I will say I had the pleasure of spending about 10 days on the road with the Scorpions. I believe it was 1988. It was Savage Amusement Tour. Kip Winger was opening, awesome guy. My friend Peter was their road manager. I went to Tacoma Dome, Seattle WA and Peter said come thru Cali with us. Well, I certainly wasn't turning that down lol. Next was Cow Palace in San Francisco, Orange County after etc. They were all awesome, great energy. Kip was a baby and doing the ballet thing. Some great shows. I think Klaus still sounds good considering or at least to general public he would. We are way too picky because we know too much. Ann Wilson sounds so screamed to me last few years, doesn't hold notes anymore and her voice is gritty and weighted, but hell rockers seem to like it better.
One of my favorite bands. Saw them in late 80s in Buffalo, NY Monsters of Rock tour. They were the best sounding live band of the 12 that played including Metallica. Also saw them in 2018 in Phoenix. Klause sounds much better than your first "now"clips portrays but he has lost some of the Highs he had.. Pitch was spot on just not the high high notes and I still have clips on my photo from the concert to prove it... Love this band
One of my favorite singers ever. I didn't appreciate how awesome his voice was while I was in highschool .Now I'm older I realize he had one of the best voices in rock !
In my opinion, post vocal surgery, his voice is actually clearer than it was previously, 1990’s He had a natural raspiness to his voice, I feel it’s ever clearer now. I heard Scorpions in Las Vegas in April, 2024, priceless!
Who doesn't love the Scorpions!! I remember back around the time winds of change was released sitting on the hotel balcony in Rodos Island in Greece and that song came on across the street from this pub, I mean just wow!!!
I had the chance to listen to Scorpions in Athens in 2018 and Klaus's voice was actually better than the "Now" I saw here... So it might be the thing that some people said he might be a bit hit or miss... One thing is for certain... No one ever left a Scorpions concert unhappy... Or a Ken Tamplin Video...
Here is a football player in his 20’s and here he is in his 60’s. We all change as we get older. Not sure the purpose of the video but I’m a Ken fan none the less.
The goal of this series is not to make fun of people or to show a picture of them in their youth and then mock them in their older age. The goal is to showcase how voices have sustained over time. And who has taken care of their voices and who hasn't, and what was the result. And what could've been done differently for those that did not take care of the voices. Could they have sustained their voices? And can they be rehabilitated now? Some singers (few) are just gifted with great genes and have been able to sustain their voices on their own. This is a rare exception. The rest of us mere mortals have to work at it, just like we have to work at our voices to get range, pitch, power, control, longevity, stamina, and so forth. In addition, it's just really cool to check out the incredible careers of these artists and marvel at their singing.
To be honest, Klaus is still pretty good and despite all of his voice issues, I really don’t think his voice changed that much since his younger days ;)
No matter how Klaus Meine’s voice has evolved through the years, what a great band anyway, right? Man, songwriting-wise they’re just flawless! 🙏🙇♂️ By the way, Ken, please consider doing Graham Bonnet. His natural voice is exceptionally powerful, though I don’t think his vocal technique is very refined. Still, he’s charismatic and smart. To me he remains one of the most original rock vocalists ever. I would love to see a “then and now” video by you about him. Thank you!
@@mantelmann13, well, a matter of taste, I guess. The older I get, the more I enjoy simpler stuff, provided it’s just well crafted. Yes, it does get formulaic sometimes, but still prefer that to artificially intricate prog music and endless self-indulging solos. That’s why I find Dream Theater overwhelmingly boring. I like The Scorpions better. But well, to each their own, right? 🤷🏻♂️
Not as Bad as Vince Neil hahahaha that's for sure. I would love to hear the development of Miljenko Matijevic, Tom Keifer, Robbin Crosby or more 80's Glammetal Singers in general :-)
I think first and second was post mixed or something, mayby that's half playback, that "now" stuff was 100% live, he was tired, but still this songs are hard to sing for random human, his voice its still clear and amaizing, greet from Poland Ken🤘
Klaus was/is fantastic! Scorpions 🦂 are our ( wife, daughter, and I) favorite band of all time. Especially their clasic stuff with Uli Jon Roth. Can’t believe the Scorpions 🦂 just released another new studio album just this past couple of weeks. Can’t wait to hear it. Interested in your take on Barry Gibb of the BeeGees. Doing a then/now since he is back to singing again. Years of singing in that high falsetto must take so much training and preparation.
Dear Ken, you should've listen to Scorpions Rock You Like A Hurricane, Still Loving You during Hellfest 2015 or New York 2015 concert to compare his voice then and now. Another request, try to review Scorpions Rock Believer live in Taratata 2022 too. Thanks
Love the Scorpions!!! Checked out some live performances from 2020. Lower key, letting the crowd sing a lot of the chorus, etc. I’d still go see them live though. KM has been belting it out since the mid to late 60’s. That’s pretty damn long time! And The Scorp’s are still rocking!🤘
Hey Ken, I think Klaus had some better "Now"-moments than the one's you chose. But anyway, very cool series!!! How about an episode about Bob Catley of Magnum. He becomes 75 this year, he is still recording, still touring (if possible) and I don't think that he lost very much of his voice. And what make it even more interesting: In an interview he claimed that he doesn't do any vocal exercises! :-) Keep up your good work!
I love the Scorpions. I have for years. What some people don't understand, a lot of these guys are in their 70's. They have been doing this for 40-50 years or more. People age, vocal cords age. The first thing you notice is they can't reach the high notes like they used to. I love Klaus and I think he still sounds amazing for his age.
54 years.. dude Klaus is in his late 70s. Much like Sammy both are lucky they can still perform at all.. it is amazing that they are still playing.. I saw scorps 11 times 1982 through. 1996. Not many almost 80 year olds can even dream of doing this
Age catches up with us all . My all time vocalists cant really do it any more but who can do anything like they could when they were 21 , I know I cant lol . Part of the attraction for me when I was part of the NWOBHM was Klaus' accent , also loved udo and Michale Kiske for the same reasons. You have already covered some of my favourite vocalists in Joe Lynn Turner, Steve Scott Soto, Lou gramm, Sebastian bach & David Coverdale . However I would love to see you do more on my favourite vocalists from Bands such as Thunder , Magnum (Bob Catley is my all time favourite ) , XTC , Hard Rain , Breaking Point, Kingdom come & BNL ! Great video , love as always !
It's Klaus. And he is still doing well on his current tour. For many of us. We still love our Great Metal Bands. It is so hard to play live on tour for 30+ years and still play great shows.
Klaus used to be a gret vocalist. Constant tours, recordings and concerts over the years also bring consequences that are also noticeable in vocals. But he still remains a great rock legend.Rock on🤘🎸🎶
I think it would be hard to see them now. I saw them in 2009 and it was a cool show. then I went back and watched one of there 80's concerts like world wide live and you are talking about some of the best rock vocals of all time. Just Amazing!!!! The scorpions always showed up to play a great show. Unlike Aerosmith and Van Halen, Iron Maiden who had up and down careers the scorpions maintained such a high level for soooo long. If they don't hold the record for performing the most live rock concerts I would be surprised
God bless Klaus for performing! I pray he's okay, that vocal cord surgery sounds like a lot to go through 🙏 So many I'd love a "then and now" on have passed on. Then and then, perhaps? LOL! I'll put my thinking cap on. (Have you done Billy Joel?) God bless, thank you so much for the fun! ❤ P.S. I GOT IT! Eric Burdon! ( Spill the wine perhaps? Or, anything with The Animals 💕 )
Thay have a new album coming out now and I think he sounds good on it given everything you've mentioned. Young Klaus also set himself a pretty high bar, lol.
I saw Scorpions in 2007, the first and last time they came to Mumbai. Even on that show, then drummer James Kottak was giving more than significant backup on the high parts. And Klaus was singing well within himself, though not as much as here. Bad Boys Running Wild was second on the setlist, I think, and some in the pretty sparse crowd actually asked him to get louder until they realized this was gonna be it. It was still a fun show. He was incredibly lively and funny. But you could tell he was off his best.
Great video Ken! He has a distinct voice. I looked for Christian bands that had not just the sound, but the vocalist sound as well......the closest a came was a band called Creed (before 'that' Creed), that also happened to be German.
he still has the vocal range. . Klaus meine in my opinion has to be so underrated as a singer. everyone talks about Halford and Dickinson but i still say he has good pipes. next do ; James hetfield voice video then and now and Joe Lynn Turner please . thanks
El pasado 8 de abril estuve en el concierto en El Salvador y el desempeño de Klaus es bastante aceptable a sus 74 años. Otros Rock Star perdieron su voz a los 40.
Good stuff man I have your course and it's amazing it helps me understand how singing really works , But I have problem . My voice some times sounds bad , and sometimes sounds amazing . I have a specific time in my day when I feel good , way ... Thank you so much for helping us . I'm your fan from Libya ❤🤘🏻 And by the way I smoke and I try to stop smoking so many times I failed 😁
Even tho he didnt sing that many of the old songs anymore, i would love a then and now comparison of steve perry. he did some live stuff the last couple of years and sang some classic journey ballads.
Ahh yes! Ze Scorpions! I tend to agree with you Ken, that Klaus Meine's voice is definitely not like it was back in the day. Yet he did carve out quite a niche in the hard rock (& perhaps heavy metal) genre & in my heart ad well! As always, I appreciate your integrous & qualified critiques of vocalists from then & now. Keep up the excellent work my friend! Rock on & peace out!
Dude... I am SO old that I still consider "Rock You Like a Hurricane" as NEW Scorpions..... sigh...... Still waiting on Michael Sweet - then and now!!!!!!
To be fair I think it’s just cause he’s older now. No matter if he took the very best care of himself he’s still going to sound different because of being older. I think his voice is hauntingly beautiful
Would love to see you do a video on Joey Tempest from Europe and also singers like Chesney Hawkes and John Farnham. I really like some of their songs alot, so that would be awesome, if you did videos on them at some point Ken. :)
Ken, Have you heard their new album? Released recently. That sounds good. Whether he has help from engineers, I do not know and could not judge. I saw them maybe in 1990. They rocked!!!
His late performances aren't as energetic as they once were. But, unlike singers from bands like Dokken, Ratt and Crüe with Vince Neil (as you have mentioned), the Scorps still rock and I would definitely go see them.
My first big concert. Saw them in the 80s, the 90s and the 2ks. Always good. One thing that was very noticeable when I saw them. They sounded pretty damn close to how the album sounds. Alot of bands couldnt. Hard to believe the Scorpions formed before i was born and im in my 50s. Klaus is 74 in a couple months. So I can cut him a lot of slack. particularly since I know he has been known for so many years of of giving it his all. Rudy still looks to be in great shape. Klaus though is looking a bit weak as you you say Ken.
You really should do Dee Snider! He's one of the rare cats who sounds and looks as strong as ever. He really avoided most of the pitfalls his peers suffered through. He's just a really solid individual on stage or off.
Listen to what Mr. Tamplin said. He’s restricted on whatever he wants to try to use here on UA-cam. Even me. I’m restricted on whatever I wanna try to use here on UA-cam. So don’t complain if you don’t want Mr. Tamplin to get a copyright strike
Imo he’s one of the best for longevity. The dudes 73 years old after all. Like wow. The Scorpions are 50 years old so they’ve done countless tours, concerts and miles - Ultimate Respect for Klaus - Legend.
Saw Scorpions in 2018. and Klaus was amazing on vocals, he really nailed it! One of the rare singers who could sing that well in that age.
Klaus has a golden tone no matter what in my opinion. Love his voice!!
Klaus Meine is the one and only voice of the Scorpions!! No one can replace him!!
Never listened to them live before. But man, what a powerful voice back then. Even now, the tone is there. The guy can hold his own.
I don't agree .
He has the virgin killer voice until Black out in the extreme
Yes, he has admitted to intentionally practice "screaming" to rough up his voice, thinking it wasn't hard rock enough. Obviously learned his lesson, but it's amazing that he really does still have it! Or I should say, has it again. 🤘
Klaus Meine is my hero! Saw them live and he sang everything perfectly with so much energy. This was over 10 years ago though so things may have changed.

For his age pretty darn good. Love the Scorpions!
Probably my favorite vocalist of all time....Klaus!

Klaus Meine Still sings well for his age. He is a great song writer to and the Scorpions evolved a lot as a band over the years
Forever The Best 🥰 Klaus Meine
For a band more than half a century old, that's pretty good. Always one of the best voices out there, especially their 70's stuff. New album is killing it!
There's no one like Klaus !
To me he is one of the few singers who still has a good voice in his 70s.
He’s 73……He was still sounding Tip top in the early 2000s… However, when I saw him in Atlanta around 2010… There was a noticeable difference… But he still sounds better than most singers out there… He’s been singing since the 1960s scorpions first album was 1972 50 years ago. Scorpions, I love them since the 70...real competitors to good british and american bands....
I would still see the Scorpions. Klaus is still better than a lot of modern day pop artists. He’s not a spring chicken anymore.
I've alway thought of Klaus Meine as a German version of Dio, with a dash of Stephen Wright.
He had an instantly recognisable voice back in the day for sure. The Scorpions have secured their place in the history of hard rock, and sold millions. I don't know why they are still doing this.
Klaus Meine 74/82 the best voice 🇧🇷🤘 Brazil
Klaus is 73... so it is pretty solid in my book! ^^
Klaus was ahead of his time. Amazing singer.
Ken, I watch your vids with great rapture. You're the bee knees.❤️💕🤗💞🌹🥰😍😍
A Chris Robinson Then and Now would a fun watch. Love this series you've been putting up.
In my opinion, post vocal surgery, his voice is actually clearer than it was previously, 1990’s He had a natural raspiness to his voice, I feel it’s ever clearer now. I heard Scorpions in Las Vegas in April, 2024, priceless!

I'm your fan from Libya ❤🤘🏻
And by the way I smoke and I try to stop smoking so many times I failed 😁
Even tho he didnt sing that many of the old songs anymore, i would love a then and now comparison of steve perry. he did some live stuff the last couple of years and sang some classic journey ballads.
Can you do a now and then on Paul Rogers? I think he is the perfect example of someone who kept their voice pretty intact over the years.
Love your video. Very interesting
He sounds fantastic on the new album.
Can you do steve Perry then and now ?
Dude... I am SO old that I still consider "Rock You Like a Hurricane" as NEW Scorpions.....
sigh......
Still waiting on Michael Sweet - then and now!!!!!!
going out this weekend to go get their new album
Watch him cover love of my life from a few years ago… Almost opera like…
To be fair I think it’s just cause he’s older now. No matter if he took the very best care of himself he’s still going to sound different because of being older. I think his voice is hauntingly beautiful
No matter what, he still has a beautiful voice with bardic magic in it.
Ken have you ever reached out to these vocalists and offered your help.
Would love to see you do a video on Joey Tempest from Europe and also singers like Chesney Hawkes and John Farnham. I really like some of their songs alot, so that would be awesome, if you did videos on them at some point Ken. :)
I think the sharpening from the past was a bit too harsh, so it is missing now. But honestly if they still sing live, I can live with that.
Ken, could you do James BaBrie of Dream Theater next? Or Rik Emmett of Triumph and his 11 solo albums?
Geoff Tate :) I heard him recently in OC. Awesome!!
Ken, Have you heard their new album? Released recently. That sounds good. Whether he has help from engineers, I do not know and could not judge. I saw them maybe in 1990. They rocked!!!
That was so cool when they came out with their version of can't explain. I'd like to here one on Blackie Lawless Ken
would be cool if you showed also the new Album Rock Believer.
Can we get a Dee Snider video? He still sounds amazing
His late performances aren't as energetic as they once were. But, unlike singers from bands like Dokken, Ratt and Crüe with Vince Neil (as you have mentioned), the Scorps still rock and I would definitely go see them.
SO SHWEEEETTT...much love Tee with LIONS NAMED LEO.[the music worldwide}
and ooooo cool..!!!
Hello Ken! Would be nice if you create a playlist of singers then and now. Just a suggestion.
They just released a new studio album ROCK BELIEVERS. It’s fantastic!! Give it a listen!
I couldnt sound like him in a million years.
You really should do Dee Snider! He's one of the rare cats who sounds and looks as strong as ever. He really avoided most of the pitfalls his peers suffered through. He's just a really solid individual on stage or off.
Klaus Still Rocks at his 70s and proves that he can still sings and make an album
The “then” videos are not live. They’re live videos with recorded music.
Listen to what Mr. Tamplin said. He’s restricted on whatever he wants to try to use here on UA-cam. Even me. I’m restricted on whatever I wanna try to use here on UA-cam. So don’t complain if you don’t want Mr. Tamplin to get a copyright strike
